Houston – Back Then

Recently was made aware of this site, which has old maps of Houston. The following maps have been resized in order to be uploaded, so if you can’t see a detail you want, I recommend going to the original site, where the maps are hi-resolution and unreduced.

Here’s a 1954 map:
1954_humble_houston_merged_360p_large_resized

And here’s a 1942 map. A neighbor pointed out that Fauna, a street in my ‘hood, used be called “S Houston – Garden Villas Road” as it crossed Telephone Road. Nowadays, Fauna pretty much stops at Telephone Road, and Airport Boulevard is the main artery that crosses in front of Hobby Airport.

That idiot Lee Brown banned HPD officers from the shotgun squads.

I remember the good old days when PD put “shotgun squads” in the coolers at convenience stores. They thinned out the gene pool quite a bit before someone decided that it wasn’t fair for the cops to surprise and shoot thugs.

#49 I know you’re not in that camp. The thing is, there is no “House of Rothchild” in the banking world and probably hasn’t been since World War I.

Can’t be the Queen.

She’s the one dealing drugs with George Bush senior.

Hamous I am not in the camp of which you suggest. It was a response to #11 and the family was suggested only as a possibility. The question in my mind at the time was: who has the resources and influence to pull off such a stunt? The universe of possibilities is not that big. TexPats #39 answer later about… Read more »

That’s pretty interesting. The movie also starred Barbara Hale (Perry Mason the show).

Saw her over the weekend as Randolph Scott’s love interest in a cavalry movie.

Hubba hubba.

So she looked like a horse?

Didn’t she also play The Skipper on Gilligans Island?

Bonecrusher – surely you are aware that in every “new world order/evil Jewish banker” rant directed towards the Jews, there’s a Rothchild conspiracy that has been used as evidence as to why they should be exterminated. If you’d like to be in the company of the likes of Alex Jones, Jeff Rense, and Lyndon Larouche have at it.

Bonecrusher You can discard your Rothschild Zionist banker conspiracy. Here is the Greek woman working for Goldman Sachs (of course) who maneuvered the Greek financing deal and made hundreds of millions for herself and her employer. What it most liked about her seems to be the way she could magic away the country’s dismal financial position. The trade she came… Read more »

Every amazing thing you never knew about the song, Unchained Melody. Two Jewish Tin Pan Alley songwriters wrote it for a low-budget 1955 prison movie. No kidding. The song—first released 60 years ago, in 1955—has a history that, like its eponymous tune, ebbs and flows at unpredictable intervals. The song that has served as a backdrop for dances and weddings… Read more »
