On a lighter note – there’s a growing black market on condiments at schools.

I don’t know that a Pope can be un-elected from office. The Church on earth consists of human beings, who have flaws – some major and some minor. This Pope won the hearts of many by rejecting the trappings due his office and being humble. The Church has had some truly appalling leaders in the past; I’m hoping this Pope… Read more »

Can a pope be “recalled” or fired or dismissed?

He’s turning out to be what I expected from a Jesuit. I had hoped it would be otherwise.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Scott Walker for all his flaws knows how to extend a giant middle finger to the anti-American left and he isn’t the slightest bit shy about doing it. That counts for a lot, not just with me but with a huge portion of the GOP primary electorate who has been begging for someone who could prove that you can… Read more »

El Gordo –

But, it gives me something to do and lets me get some exercise in the process.

I’m holding off on working on Mirkwood for several reasons: (1) heat, (2) mosquitoes, and (3) my incredible backlog of work on my desk.

But it WILL come down. Some day. Just a little at a time.

And the Sun’s face we see continues to be essentially barren of spots much of the time or so few they appear to be freckles, and an occasional larger one pops up. I thought we were in an unusually weak solar period and that is why the temps have been falling instead of rising as the hockey stick graph indicated that they would. This article states that we have been in a strong period.
The lunacy that man can actually influence global climate is breath taking.

We all eff up from time to time . The goal is to accept the forgiveness that is freely offered (and it is) and move on and grow from the experience instead of leaving a piece of yourself behind. Refusal to accept forgiveness burdens the soul .

Old gnarled trunks are cool . . . . .

You would have loved Sicily! The old olive trees there have the most interesting trunks – gnarled and twisted and -surprise! – HOLES in the tree trunks! They grow that way, and the older they get the more holes they get and the more gnarled the trunks.

but now I’ve cleared underneath a couple of trees that are deformed as the brush has worked over the years to choke them out. I have always looked at the deformed trees as art objects. These are feral trees and have never before been exposed to any sort of human attention. It’s doubtful that they will ever learn how to behave, but maybe they can be salvaged to perform menial tasks such as providing shade and a place for the birds to nest. Other than that, I don’t expect much from them.

#3 Super Dave I heard most of Rush’s show yesterday and that particular segment. He’s correct. The conclusion was that… Read more »

I’m not convinced people will ever “wake up”. In the collective sense, we’re getting exactly what “we” want: a nation full of dumbed-down, passive, celebrity-worshiping morons who have no qualms about being ruled by a gaggle of narcissistic power brokers. “We” could stop it any time we want. “We” just don’t appear to want to stop it.
