Good morning.

This might be of interest to Adee and a few others. Split screen compares American Pharoah to Secretariat on the track at Belmont.
http://deadspin.com/this-is-what-it-would-look-like-if-american-pharoah-rac-1709988755Interesting side by side view of the two races MHarp posted last night. I wonder what the second place time was at the 1973 Belmont, while clearly American Pharoah would have lost to Secretariat, at 2:26, looks like he would have beat the rest as well.

Good morning Hamsters. Not a leaf stirring and 71 at 6, and everything has the feel of rain coming sometime today. Birds are chattering about something.
Many thanks to mharper42 for posting the Secretariat/ American Pharoah side by sides. I noticed in the race writeup in the Chron the reporter (not a local) had mentioned American Pharoah’s time in the last quarter mile bested Secretariat’s.
But given the side by side times, that doesn’t seem correct. American Pharoah was running very well but couldn’t afford to let up before the finish line. On the other hand, Secretariat long before the last quarter was running for the joy of it.
Penny Chenery, Secretariat’s breeder and owner, was in the stands for the race last week. She’s 93 and sure looks great. Secretariat is in American Pharoah’s pedigree through one of his daughters. Secretariat’s big legacy to the breed is that he was a great broodmare sire, and his daughters are pure gold.

How can a mare born in 1837 still be important 170 years later? Her pedigree holds the key. This mare, Pocahontas, is the main conduit of the large heart gene- a sex linked gene, which traveled on both her x chromosomes to the champions of today.
In 1997 a free lance writer who specialized in racing Thoroughbred articles, rocked the equine world with the publication of her book: “The X Factor”. Marianna Haun’s love of the magnificent Secretariat had led her to do extensive study of his pedigree, and she took note of a few things. It appeared to her that Secretariat’s huge heart actually came down the genetic trail from a mare named Pocahontas.

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito dissented. They sided with Congress, which passed a law in 2002 allowing Americans born in Jerusalem to have Israel listed as their place of birth on their passports.
“Today’s decision is a first,” Roberts said. “Never before has this court accepted a president’s direct defiance of an act of Congress in the field of foreign affairs.” He said the court was bowing to fears that the congressional law could be misinterpreted as changing U.S. foreign policy, rather than allowing citizens to define their place of birth.
Justice Clarence Thomas took a middle ground, agreeing that Congress cannot circumvent the president on passports, but arguing that the law can be applied to consular reports of birth abroad.

Great article.
Serious breeders of any breed of horses know “Your mares are your wealth.”

The OC cartoon could be the Clinton Crime Foundation as Sean Hannity calls it. Or Hillary’s State Department. Dirty paws all around.
‘Cept there’s no remorse.
-
I should have known that GJT would like the racing video…
๐ -
That’s right. Wasn’t lawn mower racing but it sufficed.

Does anybody have a link to the trade deal the House is about to vote on?

Mrs. Bonecrusher narrowly missed a major wreck on the ramp from 290 onto 610 this morning. Praise G-D the sheet metal and her psyche are intact.

#11 – As an old road builder I’ve observed the various configurations of that nightmare intersection as they work their way through the construction process. With *never enough* actual right of way to work with it’s definitely an engineering challenge!
I do my level best to AVOID that mess altogether

Unfortunately Mrs. Bonecrusher takes it every day

How’re you doing Cut N Shoot?

Stopped by the neighborhood Randall’s this morning for a few items and sadly walked down the ice cream aisle. The store can’t afford to leave the Blue Bell space vacant now, so it is filled with Safeway Select ice cream in 1.5 qt containers. Better that than any of hoity toity rivals. Will give their chocolate chip a try. On checkout I chatted with the lady checker who’s been there a long time and is a soulmate. Said I think the entire Blue Bell fiasco is sabotage, and she replied a lot of her regular customers think the same. Hope the Texas Rangers have been called in to investigate.

Yes I know it’s the Daily Currant.

Grits can’t possibly be responsible. Grits are so inert they just lie there on the plate in a sad mushy sprawl, having little structural integrity. No character whatsoever, unlike its kin hominy. This is an unbiased opinion, as I don’t eat either of them. ๐

I am like so totally bummed out at this news . . . . . . . . . . . .NOT!!
HEADLINE: Disney Could Lose $140 Million on ‘Tomorrowland’ Flop

Grits is the solution to world hunger.
The more you eat, the more is left on your plate.

Rick Santorum was able to really pack an audience into a chair yesterday.
One chair.

Hopefully them Hogs will face the Gators at some point in the CWS.

#29: I wonder how they would like the title to simply be “Beyotch?” It would apply to the females and the shemales.

Hamous, Waitress in the Sky.

Problem anymore on airlines is the server is some dude who’s dad ate too many grits.

Two guys bust out of a jail up Nawth. Why do we have to see constant updates?

Hey, at least we’re getting break from the “near-historic” flood stories.

#32 Heh. That song just came up on the random rotation a couple of days ago. Reminded me of this song so I had to play some of the old stuff to remind me there was some good music even in the desert known as the ’80s.
-
As far as music goes, lately I have really been enjoying listening to Vince Gill. Man does that guy sing well.
-
Wazzup Shannon. Whoopig Hammygator.
??? Anyone else watching the “Fighting Season” documentory?
With the ROE why are we still in Afgan or Iraq?

Anything this transvestite is against, I’m for just on account of her being butt-ugly inside and out.

#39: If she/it ever gets voted out of office, she could get a job stopping clocks and/or making trains take dirt roads. That is one book that is easy to judge by the cover.

Ann Coulter is all over immigration these days. Thank you, Ann!!!

Well, I’ve been real busy but it’s that time of year again, the does are dropping little ones. Last week I saw a little fellow struggling to walk/stand and his fur was all messed up so I figured that he was a few hours old. This morning I saw a fawn that may have been him, parked beside our building. He was there until about 1 PM, probably there since daylight…..All together now,…Awww
-
Nice little fawn, Dave!

I miss watching the deer families grow each year at the old place. Although these are large lots out here, we are all too close together for the deer to roam.

Had a brief popup shower over Richmond and FM 359 near Pecan Grove just after 6. This was a pleasant surprise coming only a hour after I watered all the patio plants in the late afternoon heat. Down to 81 fast, and that is a plus. We need nice showers like this rather than deluges.
Ann Coulter nails it again.
-
Y’all have no idea how hard it was to NOT pick him up and take him home. I of course, would never do that, but was tempted.
-
Bambi alert. Too cute.
-
Didn’t realize how tired I was.
Until I fell asleep in front of the TV.
For me to fall asleep with a radio or TV on is dang near impossible.
Except tonight.
Now that I’ve had a quick power nap, I’m going to try to get some bookkeeping done. I have a feeling tomorrow is gonna be another doozy…
