And as for the people in the comments who say that libertarians like me, Eugene Volokh, and FIRE shouldn’t be defending these students: If you only defend speech you agree with, you’re not a free speech advocate, you’re just a partisan hack.
I just had the strangest confession experience. When I was asked to say my Act of Contrition, I drew a mental blank on the second line of the prayer. The visiting priest tried prompting me, and I started over, but again – nothing! I told him “I teach this stuff! I just came from the class where I teach it!”… Read more »

Is Mrs Shannon actually dancing a jig? And if so, does that mean she is finally showing some recovery from her vertebral problem? I hope the answers are both YES.
I thought that the purpose of educators was to teach students how to think, rather than what to think. That’s why the internet is such a risk to government educators and politicians; (and why Obama had to take it over) because it’s virtually unlimited as a source of fact, fiction, and opinion – a person having the capacity think can… Read more »
Hamous, it’s not ok with me that private schools teach creationism alongside evolution but if it’s ok with you, well, you are in league with some questionable folks.
Says the guy who believes the same thing about evolution that Joseph Stalin did.
I don’t understand your question about capacity to appreciate beauty and evolutionary advantage. I didn’t think you would. Because the answer would conflict with your pre-determined outcome of any debate. The Theory of Evolution adequately explains the presence on the planet of creatures that adapt to their environment. What it does not adequately explain (and the reason it is still… Read more »

By the way if charter schools teach creationism is that ok, no problem with you? I don’t care. I don’t have to send my kids to that school. Sarge, there is no theory of creationism. there is no accepted conventional wisdom, no scientific consensus or what have you. I like your phrase pick the fly poop out of the pepper. I don’t understand your question about capacity to appreciate beauty and evolutionary advantage. Are you talking about people? Monkeys?
Izzy You can pick the fly poop out of the pepper all you want. My statement still stands. When you said: Long ago it was accepted that the world was flat. This was taught in schools as truth.
