In Which We Delve Into Fine Art Once Again

One of my favorite sculptures is housed in the Basilica of St Peter in Vatican City.
Michelangelo Buonarroti carved this vision of Mary’s lamentations over the body of her Son at the end of the 15th century when he was 24 years old. It is regarded to this day as not only one of his masterpieces, but a masterpiece among masterpieces.
One art historian in the early 16th century described it:

It is certainly a miracle that a formless block of stone could ever have been reduced to a perfection that nature is scarcely able to create in the flesh.

I wholeheartedly agree.

We shall discuss Mr. Buonarroti again. He was truly a gifted artist and will likely not be equaled any time soon.
