If there remains any doubt of the aims of the Anthropogenic Global Warming crowd, news from Cancun should dispel them.
Global warming is now such a serious threat to mankind that climate change experts are calling for Second World War-style rationing in rich countries to bring down carbon emissions. [emphasis mine]
We know better than you little people!
In one paper Professor Kevin Anderson, Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, said the only way to reduce global emissions enough, while allowing the poor nations to continue to grow, is to halt economic growth in the rich world over the next twenty years.
You rich people who have despoiled the Earth all these years must stop and let all those masses of brown people have their shot. What they don’t ever want said is that while the developed world uses lots of energy per capita, it uses it very efficiently, especially when compared to the developing world.
Prof Anderson insisted that halting growth in the rich world does not necessarily mean a recession or a worse lifestyle, it just means making adjustments in everyday life such as using public transport and wearing a sweater rather than turning on the heating.
Left unsaid by the good perfesser is why they all have to fly to Cancun (or Copenhagen, Bali, etc.) to make these Pronouncements of Great Truth when there exists videoconferencing technology that would allow them to reduce their “carbon footprints” right now.
I had a good time at adopted daughter’s 21st birthday shindig tonight. We toasted her with a shot new to me but apparently known to others as a “buttered nipple.” I’m pretty sure there was Tequila at the bottom, but I can’t quite recall what was floating above it.
I totally agree.
I hope this makes a difference!
Hilary running as GOP? Holy cow – I better start shipping parkas to hell, ‘cuz I think it’s gonna get real cold down there soon!

Hillary running as GOP candidate? Oh well, not so different than McCain I guess.
And if that was not funny enough….How bout this?
Now Tea Party Darlin Christine O’Donnel wants to see
Hilary Clinton run for President and she might even become
a Democrat if Hilary runs.

Don’t ya love that Stephen Colbert?

Mharper42, Bob42, Tedtam, Many thanks for the kind thoughts. Had put off getting it fixed since April when the neurologist suggested it was time to consider it, as a long course of B-vitamin complex had not improved that hand but had the left one. The right elbow fracture repair probably had a lot to do with it. A caution with… Read more »
Great advice.
Got this in an email: NOW…this is a super idea…..if I had some friends in NY, I would pass this idea along…. No need to protest about the mosque, just bury pigs at the proposed site! Why didn’t I think of that?! People in New York should protest and bring raw bacon to throw on the site as well… Something… Read more »

This made me laugh!
I think because I know people like these dogs. Names withheld.

I guess I miss the humor. But then, I’ve never been a Simpsons fan, nor Family Guy, nor any of the “adult” cartoons.
My assistant said they’re especially funny if you’re drunk or high. Her words, not mine.
I just got finished moving some of my container plants into my newly constructed “green house” over my veggie beds. I have two 4×8 beds, and all I wanted to do was to cover them up to protect them from the cold, since some of my plants got pretty frostbitten in the last cold snap. I asked Hubby if he… Read more »
Well, Adee, I guess your cooking and cleaning chores might be limited, too? Even if it’s not necessary, if you play it right! 😉
Get well soon!

Dagnabbit, WB, are you talkin’ ’bout mah fambly???
I resemble that remark!

Adee, I’d give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
Seriously, take good care, stay warm, and do the PT! I’ve had numbness in both hands for a couple of years, but so far it’s responding well to some informal PT, and limiting typing to the extent that work and piano pleasure permit.
#22 Bob with students in the culinary program serving flavored brews, hot chocolate and healthy snacks such as whole fruit and yogurt for a fee. Thanks for clearing that up. I really thought it sounded like another feed-the-public-school-children program. If we are providing breakfast & lunch, I thought why not snacks too? This sounds worthwhile, not only for luring kids… Read more »
Adee, recover soon so we can continue to enjoy your written thoughts.
I was downdown this morning and the wind made it bitterly cold even in the sunshine.
Good afternoon all. Windy 55 at 6 making it to 56 by 1pm, still blowing a northerly gale with great vigor. Writing is difficult today owing to carpal tunnel release surgery yesterday afternoon. It was complicated by also needing to reroute a nerve through my elbow going to several fingers. A fracture of my elbow at age 8 was not… Read more »
#21 I got the info from the Chronicle’s story on it. A full coffee bar will open in coming days, with students in the culinary program serving flavored brews, hot chocolate and healthy snacks such as whole fruit and yogurt for a fee. So far, the number of books being checked out at Lamar has more than doubled to 2,933… Read more »

I never heard of a coffee shop inside a school, so I am unconvinced that the food & beverages are not free. The article does not say either way.
#17 M42, the books and e-books are available without charge, as they should be. The coffee and snacks are not free.
Just gussin’, but I’d say Green on the outside
PinkRed on the inside. 😉No one else has asked, so I will: why is this Watermelon Tuesday?

Sounds to me like what is being eaten up in this library is the “free” coffee and snacks, before and after school.
What people consider “art” these days is incomprehensible to me.
Perhaps we Christians should behead a few people and claim victim hood.
Simple, I agree that the “good news” is that they’re there, and they’re reading. I’m in the IT business, appreciate the technology, and do most of my reading online. But still, there’s something about the smell of the stacks that I hope can be preserved as technology moves forward.
Maybe it’s hereditary. My mother was a librarian for 30+ years.
I can see the advantages to e-books: portability, for one. I can see this as a big advantage when going on a long vacation and packing space is at a minimum. But there’s something about having a real book in hand, turning pages. And if it’s my copy, I can write in it (something I rarely do, except for my… Read more »
Bob, Do not mess with my Apple Stock (AAPL). I use the Harris County Library to download Audio Books and e-Books for free. Call me old fashioned, but I still think libraries should have books, in addition to information technology and gimmicks such as offering coffee. Yes, there are still books there but most of it is now e-books where the kids can check out the book and as long as they have Internet access they can read the book. The library is… Read more »
I just went outside to pick up pecans. Just covering the area – street, sides of street, my driveways, and the front yard – I have filled my little rolling crate about 1/3 full. Maybe one way we could cut back would be to reduce the funding for the Tyndall Institute, a sure way to reduce a lot of hot air and noxious gas.
