This Argument We’ve Been Having…

Andrew Klavan at Pajamas Media:

Just to let you know where I stand emotionally, here’s a true story. The first time I made a speech before a Tea Party crowd, I felt as if I were floating two feet off the ground. I respected, admired and agreed with the Tea Partiers so completely, that my heart rose up and I began to believe that despite the Obama debacle, the country would ultimately be fine. As I was leaving the rally, I got a call from a friend asking me to come by for a drink with a couple of the highest-ranking Republicans in Washington. It was me and them, having a glass together, eye to eye. By the time I left that gathering, I was so depressed by the establishment GOP’s blindness and philosophical corruption I could barely see straight. I phoned Andrew Breitbart for moral support. “I’ve just had a drink with [blank] and [blank],” I began. And he responded immediately, “Are they ***holes or what?”
All my sympathies, in other words, are with the Tea Party. And I would truly love to see the RINOs skewered on their own horns.
And yet…  In general, Tea Party candidates tend to do well in congressional races where small, homogenous districts are in play. In Senate races where you need votes across an entire state, a primary victory for someone like Christine O’Donnell or Todd Akin may briefly fill the conservative heart with joy, but the loss of a Senate seat that could have been won is simply too high a price to pay for that momentary triumph.

Elect Cornyn because he can win. Forget about his record.

One of the main reasons this country is in the shape it is in.
REASON #1 why this country will never recover,

Given the results of the Tribune/UT poll, a lot of people could stay home and Cornyn would still win.
If there is no viable alternative offered, then voters will stay with the staus quo.

Tea Party? HEH with the prevailing logic of “because he can win. Forget about his record” there si no Tea Party. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to call us all RINOs?

There is a viable alternative. Vote the sumbiotch out and work like hell towards next election.
OH WAIT with the state our nation is in that ship has already sailed as a solution. Like i said………………………….
Our only solution in this country is to turn to the benevolence mercy and grace of God almighty. Ya think I am some whack job for suggesting that, some bible thumping holy roller as it were? Do you have a better solution?

Whole Foods: America’s Temple of Pseudoscience

If you want to write about spiritually-motivated pseudoscience in America, you head to the Creation Museum in Kentucky. It’s like a Law of Journalism. The museum has inspired hundreds of book chapters and articles (some of them, admittedly, mine) since it opened up in 2007. The place is like media magnet. And our nation’s liberal, coastal journalists are so many piles of iron fillings.
But you don’t have to schlep all the way to Kentucky in order to visit America’s greatest shrine to pseudoscience. In fact, that shrine is a 15-minute trip away from most American urbanites.
I’m talking, of course, about Whole Foods Market. From the probiotics aisle to the vaguely ridiculous Organic Integrity outreach effort (more on that later), Whole Foods has all the ingredients necessary to give Richard Dawkins nightmares. And if you want a sense of how weird, and how fraught, the relationship between science, politics, and commerce is in our modern world, then there’s really no better place to go.

    This is good stuff.

How high-tech has changed the world of music and the pathways of money. Seems the musicians themselves are often far behind the curve.

For over four years now, we’ve been somewhat mystified by the hatred from some musicians and labels towards streaming services like Spotify. The general complaint seems to be that “it doesn’t pay enough,” but “enough” is often at ridiculously high standards. I’ve now seen three separate analyses that show that, on a per listener-per play basis, Spotify pays more than any other source. The problem, it often seems, is one of expectations. Part of it is simply that musicians seem to forget that their labels take a giant chunk of their earnings, and that the payments that eventually trickle down to musicians are often months or years late. Also, those doing the complaining often seem unable to comprehend that these services take time to grow, and as they grow, the payouts get bigger and bigger. But the biggest mistake of all seems to be the idea that not having your music where your fans want it is somehow a good idea. We’ve pointed out repeatedly that making music disappear from where people are looking for it only harms the musicians.

    Independent musician Ron Pope:

My music was added to Spotify in September of 2010; through the most recent report, which runs through November 2013, I’ve had over 57 million plays and they’ve paid me out $334,636 with over $200,000 of that coming in 2013.

Good morning Hamsters. Foggy, drippy, murky and 62 at 6 and no substantial change until the cold front roars in tomorrow. Late Winter at its most demoralizing, but at least we aren’t still freezing our kazoos like our neighbors a bit farther north. Sheets for covering plants are still at the ready on the back porch, just in case it’s a little more fierce than expected.

The Dems have 4 candidates vying for the privilege of running against the Pubbie.
According to the latest poll, the front runner is Kesha Rogers.
She’s a Larouchie running as a Democrat and during the last cycle, she ran for Congress in my District on an “Impeach Obama” platform.
    Please.
Stop trying to scare me with “The only possible way to keep a Democrat from winning is to make John Cornyn the Republican Candidate.”

If you have children (or grandchildren) heading to college, this is a very important article for you. If you have friends or other relatives in that position, pass it on.
It’s nice to able to point out when government actually does something well.
    From the National Journal:

A prospective college student can now learn all this and more from a neatly packaged Web report—which can be customized to reflect one’s location, household income, and SAT scores—generated from a rich trove of data on tuition and fees at Texas’s public universities, and on the earnings of those school’s graduates. The searchable website MyFutureTx.com launched in early February, but it is only the most recent step in the state’s long commitment to openness about the economic trade-offs inherent in choosing a college.
Texas has the most sophisticated and publicly available higher-education data set in the country, and its officials are aggressive about making sure that state residents can use that information to make better decisions about where to go to college and what to study. MyFutureTx.com is the newest of several state-sanctioned websites that offer detailed descriptions of graduates’ earnings, job opportunities across majors, and comparisons of colleges’ costs.
The picture can be unsettling. For example, anthropology majors who graduated in 2002 make an average of only $46,000 after 10 years on the job. Economics majors from 2002, by contrast, earn about $100,000, according to Texas CREWS, a state-run Web tool that uses the data set to provide information to the public.

    This is interesting

“You’re about to embark on a mission that’s more dangerous than anything any human has ever done before,” Robert Pearlman, a space historian and collector with collectspace.com, told me. “And you have a family that you’re leaving behind on Earth, and there’s a real chance you will not be returning.”
Exactly the kind of situation a responsible person plans for by taking out a life insurance policy. Not surprisingly, a life insurance policy for somebody about to get on a rocket to the moon cost a fortune.

    Voter ID scam busted.
You cannot see a doctor, or receive your free Obamacare without ID to prove it’s really you. A health insurance card won’t do the trick, simply because the medical office needs to prove you are in fact the person whose name is on the insurance card.
I questioned the nurses at both offices. They verified no one can collect their “free” Obamacare services from any doctor without showing ID. And since everyone is now required to have health insurance (or is given free insurance), the government is requiring that EVERYONE have a photo ID.
Does that make Obama and the Democrats racists? No, what it makes them is hypocrites who are in total fear of fair elections that they know they have no chance of winning – no chance, that is, unless they cheat. Don’t look now but Obamacare just opened the door for Voter ID.
This is where the younger generation screams, “BUSTED!”
Let’s take the hypocrisy a step further. Every single Democrat voter must be lining up to get their photo ID so they can get their free Obamacare. So the argument that poor and minority Democrat voters don’t have ID, or shouldn’t be “burdened” to get it, is out the window.
I think this is where the younger generation screams, “DOUBLE BUSTED.”
That leaves only one possible reason to oppose Photo ID for voters…the ability to cheat! The whole Voter ID scam is dead in the water- just like the Obama economy. The argument against Voter ID is killed- just like jobs in this Obama economy. And anyone who tries to argue “most voters don’t have ID” is a liar- just like the president who said, “If you like your insurance, you can keep it.”

Speaking of homofascist. It struck me odd that there seems to be a world wide crack down on teh homosexual lifestyle (exept here in Amerikuh). The crackdown basically began with the big push by the homosexuals here in Amerikuh. As I read the various stories guess who is getting the world wide blame for the crack down on homosexuals.
Christians first then the right wing conservatives here in Ameirkuh.

    6 Texpat,
In general I agree with the author about the pseudo-phony nutritional junk being peddled at Whole Foods, but ………………
The Whole Foods CEO is an admirer of Ludvig Von Mises, Ayn Rand, and Milton Friedman. The guy deplores Obama and thinks ACA is akin to facisim. In other words…your kind of guy…I think.
I go there (by myself) about once every two or three weeks and get a build-it-yourself salad from their salad bar and a pint of the Brazilian Fish Stew (if available). I then plop down at the small eating area at the exit and watch the parade of dancers, models, and svelte mommies exiting the store. It would be a great place to meet a woman if I were not fifty or so years too old and way too ugly.
I don’t buy the products which I regard as “sucker bait”, but this is a free society and as long as the stuff doesn’t represent a general hazard to the public, why not.
There is plenty of stuff on the shelf at Krogers and Wal-Mart that is equally non-beneficial at the least and some of it is downright harmful.
Come and join me the next time you are in Houston. I’ll buy you a pint of fish stew and we can watch the best parade in town.

I just got it in the mail on a nice, shiny piece of paper where it’s printed in all capital letters, so it must be true (much like reading it on the internet). And we couldn’t possibly risk losing a Senate seat by not backing a swell guy like Cornyn who stands up to Obama every day. As they say, the comedy writes itself.
