Good morning Hamsters. Whee, 48 and brisk with another cold front coming by the weekend that will really chill the Midwest and East before it gets to us. Looks like the Old Farmer’s Almanac is right again. Is this early colder than average weather somehow connected with the Obamacare website failure? Just about everything else is being blamed except the folks responsible for the creation and execution (double entendre there). 🙂

    Interesting from Drudge:

Writing its own box office success in the history books, ”The Saratov Approach,” the real-life story of two Mormon missionaries who were kidnapped and tortured in Russia, has quietly become a local B.O. hit in heavily Mormon areas throughout Utah, grossing nearly $500,000 in two weeks on only 23 screens.

“Saratov Approach” has generated a groundswell of support from the Mormon community, especially Mormon teens and Brigham Young U. college students, who are touting the film on social media.
“Normally, you have moms and dads saying to their kids, ‘Come on, let’s go support our heritage,’” explained Brandon Purdie, an independent distribution consultant, who is releasing the film via his company Purdie Distribution.
“The difference with this film is that you see young audiences carrying the movie,” Purdie added.
Unlike Christian faith-based films, whose producers use ministry outreach to promote their films, Mormons do not allow promoting materials for commercial gain in their congregations.

No, it’s not a story from the Onion. It’s real:

So, I don’t want to jinx anything, but when it comes to the ridiculousness surrounding the much-ballyhooed Obamacare rollout/circus/tragicomedy/Exxon-Valdez-meets-the-Titanic-meets-the-Edmund-Fitzgerald level of disaster, I think we’re close to hitting bottom.
At least I hope so, because it’s getting surreal out there.
On Tuesday, the wondrous powers of Twitter unearthed the “Thanks Obamacare” ad campaign, created by the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative and a group called ProgressNow Colorado Education. The campaign features various demographic-targeted ads trumpeting the greatness of Obamacare, a tactic which, in terms of both marketing and propaganda, is totally normal. What is not normal, however, is that one of the targeted demographics is a group widely known as “bros.”

Morning y’all. Woke up cold and only now sipping my coffee. The ace wrap was redone on my left leg yesterday by Iago at the Gulag. He was not skilled with it and the result came loose during the night. When I saw my 2 legs in the hall mirror, it looked like the left one had developed elephantiasis overnight. Quite a shock. I’ll fix it later. Coffee, breakfast, pain pill, home exercises for 30 mins, clean and redress the knee, 1 hr nap.

Using humor to skewer Obamacare and its accomplices seems at times even better than expressing outrage via angry words. Ridicule digs deeper and twists the insult in the wound. It is particularly effective when aimed at someone known to detest being the object of ridicule. No need to guess who.
The piece above is hysterical and so effective. Delighted to have the Edmund Fitzgerald included in the debacle above. Creative minds all over the nation are producing masterpieces of ridicule that get more attention than heated commentary.
    Keep on churning them out.

Last night at the Old Folks Home Bible study, we read those very words in Ecclesiastes. At one of the offices we go to, that was the discussion this morning as well: there is nothing new under the sun.
I started by stating the obvious: During the days of King Solomon, there were no computers, electricity, cars, etc. what is being discussed is the behavior of people. There is a propensity of man to try to gain advantage/control over his fellow man, some men are lazy, others are thieves or murderers, etc. some will literally work themselves to death trying to fill a G-D sized hole in their lives with something other than G-D and it never works. The message so far through ch 6, is that we are to take joy in doing our job well, whatever job that may be, and not to spend our lives chasing after material things.

John G. Taft writes an Editorial in the NYT tut-tutting Ted Cruz, and exposes exactly what the problem with the thinking of his strain of Republican.
He first provides his party credentials by listing all of the members of his family who have served in government since the 19th Century—thus establishing that he is a part of a Poltically Dynastic Family (like the Bushes, Clintons, Gores, and Kennedy’s), and especially those of his Grandfather:

As I write, a photograph of my grandfather, Senator Robert Alphonso Taft, looks across at me from the wall of my office. He led the Republican Party in the United States Senate in the 1940s and early 1950s, ran for the Republican nomination for president three times and was known as “Mr. Republican.” If he were alive today, I can assure you he wouldn’t even recognize the modern Republican Party, which has repeatedly brought the United States of America to the edge of a fiscal cliff — seemingly with every intention of pushing us off the edge.

In other words, his bona fides are that his Grandfather presided over the Republican Party during the time when Liberalism and Socialism made its greatest gains in this country, and therefore we should listen to Republicans like him now as we sink even deeper into the pit.

HEADLINE: Feds ask Blue Cross Blue Shield not to release exchange numbers
sub headline: FARGO – The Obama administration asked North Dakota’s largest health insurer not to publicize how many people have signed up for health insurance through a new online exchange, a company official says.

Edd Hendee stated this morning that the Ocare exchanges are in the death spiral now and will not likely make it to next November election time. There are so few people signing up, and those that do are the sickest of the bunch, therefore the premiums coming in are not going to be close to enough to cover the extremely likely claims. This will cause premiums and deductibles to skyrocket, further depressing the likelihood that more healthy people will sign up. The whole scheme is almost designed to fail, and bankrupt insurance companies in the process, so that single payer will be the only thing left – which JugEars has already stated was his goal in the beginning, single payer, AKA sociallized medicine.
Why izzit that the so-called smart people, the progressives, can not seem to realize that Socialized medicine fails everywhere it is tried? The whole thing really has nothing to do with controlling healthcare, it is all about control of the people.

#18 This whole “McCarthyism” thing is getting old too.
First, it has absolutely nothing to do with Cruz and his attempts at repealing or slowing down the ACA monstrosity. Exposing communists has no connection to trying to get rid of bad legislation.
Second, Joseph McCarthy was right! There WERE communists and their useful idiots infiltrating our government. And guess what? They’re running the country now!

Actually, I think you misheard that.
It definetly won’t be ready for the middle of this November deadline that they set for people to be enrolled so that they have a chance to qualify by the middle of December, so that they can apply by the middle of January and buy insurance by the middle of February so that it comes into effect by the end of March.
Its real easy to understand. All you have to do is think of how you’d set up a system for buying something if you think government can do it better than the private sector.
But I think even these idiots would have the kinks in the website worked out by next November.

NO, Sarge, that is exactly what I heard, the exchanges are in a death spiral, only the sickest are signing up and the demand for benefits will far outstrip the premiums. The premiums will then go up causing fewer people to sign up making the problem worse.

There’s some confusion on the fines as well. Most people beleive that the fine the first year is only $95.00. Its actually $95.00 or 1% of your taxable income whichever is greatest.
Obamacare is in a death spiral only if they don’t delay the entire law. Look for them to do a one year delay sometime in the next month.

Single payer is on the way.
But just for the sake of argument we all know sooner or later we are all gonna have to take Obamacare. If you are curious to see what your costs are gonna be here is a calculator.
Right now…. today BSue and I have an out of pocket cost of $3000 apiece a year. Under Obammcare that would jump to $6500 apiece.
Now here is why i say we are so screwed and that all these gyrations that the true “R” heroes are going are going to amount to nothing. The corporate “R”s do not want to do away with Obamacare. They want to “fix it”. So we are stuck with Obamacare period end of story.
Oh but you say, we will throw the bums out that perpetuate this mess. Oh really? We (that is a corporate we btw) have been screaming throw the bums out for some time now but we keep re-electing the John McCains of the system over and over and over again. When i have argued in elections to throw the baby with the bath water out and start over.. Holy crap I was branded a heretic. Ripe for burning on the cross.
But no!!! I heard. We gotta have the numbers. We need “R”s in the seats, better ANY “R” than a “D” in the seat. And here we are now. Political expediency by the electorate IS what has brought us to this point. For too many years the electorate sat back on their fancy all happy that the stock market was up and life was just hunky dory. Meanwhile the entrenched politicians kept telling us everything is okie dokie, keep electing the same people you are angry with cause it is better to have an “R” in the seat than a “D” no matter if the “R” is a political eunuch.
And you know what? NOW we have to keep the “R”s because history has shown me that the time has passed where there is any possibility of dislodging the flotsam and jetsam that occupy the “Republican seats” in the houses of the Senate and the Congress. We no longer can afford to just nuke the system and spend 4 years rebuilding a candidacy to take back the seat. And frankly the will to can the bad actors is not there because the prevailing group think is that “the incumbent cannot be beat”. Cruz was an anomaly because of location. Cruz’ story cannot be replicated in the NorthEast. That is a discussion for another day.
So let me be the first to say:
Welcome Comrades to the show that will never end. Obamacare is here. Learn to love it because it is not going anywhere
