Thursday Open Comments

The politically tone deaf continue in their own little world:

As the Senate on Wednesday holds its first legislative session since the election, Democrats have a chance to show what lessons they’ve learned.

Will they address the urgent need for job promotion? Work out agreement on extending the Bush tax cuts?

Actually, no. Instead, Senate Democrats are planning, as their first order of business, a debate on . . . food safety.

I cannot (well, maybe I can) believe that Pelosi continues to be the leader of the losers. Given the size of the conflagration that occurred last Nov. 2nd, how does she continue to be a leader in that party?

First off: I respect the police for the job they do. I greatly appreciate the fact that these men and women are dealing the scum of humanity so I don’t have to. This image, however, is tarnished by crap like this..

I don’t care if you’re on duty, off duty, or whatever. If you are not en route to a call or crime scene, police officers should follow the same traffic rules as the rest of us and be subject to the same penalties. I have been rear-ended by a cop AT A STOP LIGHT, and she just looked at my car and left. Another cop was in the process of running a stop sign just three houses from my driveway and almost hit me as I was about to go through (I had no stop sign in my direction). I saw a cop alone in his car break at least five traffic rules as he went through TWO red lights, misused a left turn lane, and went speeding down the road, spewing gravel behind him in the intersection. I followed the officer, as the road he was on led to my house. Imagine my chagrin when he turned into the substation on Mykawa road. Late to punch out? Or just taking advantage of his badge and car?

I would love to hold cops up to my kids as good examples of responsibility. Instead, I had to warn them that taxis, cops, and tow trucks were the three worst drivers they had to watch for on the road, and not necessarily in that order.

I’m sorry, but if the traffic rules are there for or safety, everyone should follow them, no matter what uniform you are wearing or what job you hold.

I talked to my sister yesterday, and she’s already feeling better. Of course, the day before WAS a surgery day, duh! I checked her chickens yesterday and my brother-in-law had let them out and the bag of bird seed was not where I left it, so I’m assuming the chickies are getting fed.

My class was pretty well-behaved yesterday. Some other classes came and left, some because the students were misbehaving so badly that our DRE “gave the teacher permission” to remove her class from the church. I had the largest class by far, and they were all quiet. Well, mostly. There were occasional sighs of boredom. I confiscated one notebook and I believe my bouncers moved two students. I had prepared some handouts for them, with a a variety of prayers, a reflection on prayer itself, an article from Envoy Magazone on confession, and a stern warning about their behavior and an explanation of adoration and its purpose. I also took about 15 minutes to explain what we were going to do, and handed out extra rosaries that I had made some years ago, so the students could pray the rosary if they wished. We stayed just under an hour and then we left the church.

We definitely need to have a session of church etiquette, the bowing before the Presence and genuflecting, for example. But overall, I was proud of my students. Given their ages and the eternity of silence they were forced to endure, they did rather well.

Miss Bag-of-chips and boyfriend were separated right at the beginning, as were the other cliques (as best I could). Miss BOC tried to get up and get water, get up and go to the restroom, etc., but I kept herding her back. Everyone had a chance to do that before we left for church. Then, after we got back to the classroom, she tried to get up again with only ten minutes left. Then she tried to sneak her boyfriend out with her and her momma, when her momma is not on his sign-out list. I swear, that girl is going to wear out my whip!

#9 Ted_M, in my neighborhood there’s a three way stop next to a park that has a bit of a hill. I often see an HPD cruiser hiding behind the hill watching for people who “roll” the three way. I’ve seen several folks get stopped.

Yesterday as I was returning from beer run, a cruiser was in front of me as we approached the three way stop. He didn’t just roll it, he cruised through at about 10 mph–And then proceeded to his hiding place behind the hill.

I lived in Ankara Turkey in the early 1970’s. I vividly remember families slaughtering sheep in their front yards after one of the big Muslim holidays.

There would be a sheep tied to a tree, car bumper, etc.. A couple of the men would go over and get it, then lead it over to the driveway/.curb. They would hold it down while someone cut its throat. When it had finished bleeding out and had died, they would hang it by its hind legs from a tree branch or a frame of some sort, skin it, and dress it out.

I respectfully disagree. Even that would be an infringement on the right to exercise ones religion as they deem fit. What adds to the conundrum is that the practice is historically established. It is not like the “Church of maiming and mutilating animals” just popped up and one could argue against them.

I think having 10,000 piles of sheep entrails scattered on the lawn would fall outside any 1st amendment protection, but there could be ways to accommodate such a ritual so as not to create health hazards. Mobile slaughterhouses could be used (it looks like the Russians have a crude facsimile). I would have no problem with it.

Referencing the ritual slaughter of sheep/goats. I do not have a problem with the humane slaughter of an animal for specific religious purposes. I do have a problem with the rough way the animals were treated prior to the slaughter. There is nothing at all wrong with slitting the throat of the animal and hanging it by the back legs as this properly drains the majority of the blood from the animal thus rendering it fit for consumption:

    Lev 17:10-13

10 ‘ And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. 11 ‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’ 12 “Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood.’ 13 “So when any man from the sons of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, in hunting catches a beast or a bird which may be eaten, he shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth.

who are now telling us weโ€™re safer if some guy with a GED and a yearโ€™s experience as a mall cop slides his hands up and down our pants.

In an effort to locate a bomb in your checked baggage.

Or on a freight aircraft operating on a different continent.

That’s the ignorant thing, isn’t it?

The proper place to stop terrorists is outside the borders of this country, with good intelligence and a hardened heart towards those who would kill innocents in the name of thier God, whomever that may be.

We’re being felt up by government workers because the Obama Administraton didn’t pay attention to intelligence it recieved about a guy who’s one Daddy said was going to try and blow us up.

But these are the guys who insist that we treat these baby killing monsters as common criminals.

Hows that working out for ya?

The failure of Holderโ€™s DoJ to win anything more than a single conspiracy count against Ghailani as a result of using a process designed for domestic criminals than wartime enemies shows that the critics had it right all along. It also shows that both Obama and Holder have been proven spectacularly wrong, since a man who confessed to the murder of over two hundred people will now face as little as 20 years, with a big chunk of whatever sentence Foopie receives being reduced by time already served.
The administration is left with three choices in regards to Ghailani: announce that they will release him at the appointed date whenever his sentence ends, announce that they will hold him indefinitely without regard to the courtโ€™s ruling on the matter while referring the case back to a military commission despite his acquittals, or refuse to state which they will do and hope the issue falls to the next administration. The first will mean that the US will knowingly release a master al-Qaeda terrorist with more than two hundred murders under his belt; the second will mean that the trial they staged was nothing but a sham. And the third will be a cowardly dodge.
Such is the state in which Holder as Attorney General has left the US. Either the US is so inept that it will eventually release a man who attacked two of its embassies abroad (which was an act of war by al-Qaeda) or that the DoJ may commit an impeachable act by knowingly submitting a defendant to double jeopardy, whether in this administration or a future administration. By committing to the civilian criminal system and assigning judicial jurisdiction where it never belonged, those are the only options left.

Excellent idea! The natural cooling at the lower levels would protect my grow-op from nosy drug warriors with heat detectors, and the airfield would certainly come in handy for shipping product.

Such an operation would probably achieve very positive return on investment in only a few years. But it would be just my luck that by the time I got it up and running, cannabis prohibition would end and my gross profit margin would hit the floor. ๐Ÿ™

The suit filed Monday says two middle school students received in-school suspensions last month for wearing bracelets that say, “I (Heart) Boobies. Keep a Breast.”

    In other boobie news:

Established in 2008 by a group of Kyiv university students, Femen now comprises an estimated 300 members, mainly students, who are prepared to go topless in public in support of women’s rights, Reuters reports. Anna Hutsol, Femen’s 26-year-old leader, says the group’s main aims are to improve the role of women in Ukraine’s male-dominated, post-Soviet society.

    1) There’s that whole “separation of church and state” thing. If we can’t have a Bible in a privately financed monument in front of a public building, religious ritual sacrifices should not be held on public property.
    2) The killing should be done in hygienic methods, in areas approved and prepared for this activity. Preferably a slaughterhouse somewhere.
    3) It should be kept away from areas where young children might see the slicing and dicing.
    4) PETA should be able to protest as well.

They’d spend some bucks to bring in folks from San Antonio and Dallas to cover our urgent workload, just so that everyone on the team could be there and enjoy the day along with a brew and a steak grilled to order by the management team.

I see here that Senator Cornyn did not seem to appreciate the opposition to some of his hand picked Senatorial candidates such as Crist, and the like. He has now developed the RINO protection plan which extracts a promise from Sen.
