Tuesday Open Comments

I mentioned this in the comments last night but I didn’t have anything for OC today so I thought I’d mention it again. Fox News has a six part series (they’re up to reel 2) narrated by Brit Hume, entitled The Rise, Fall and Future of Conservatism. I highly recommend watching.

    It was an inside job.

Yesterday a demolition crew blew up a 275-foot tower at the old Mad River Power Plant in Springfield, Ohio to great fanfare. But there was one problem — it fell the wrong way and took out the area’s electricity.

I was thinking about Obama falling flat on his face at the Group of Twenty.

If the world stage were the Nativity Scene, Obama would be a donkey reminding the other animals that he was Jesus last year.

Looks like TSA doesn’t like to be shown up and publicly humiliated, so they are going to show the “don’t touch my junk” man just who he is dealing with. That’ll teach you to mess with Big Sis and the Big O administration. What do you think you are, American or something?

A man saw Nancy Pelosi fall off one of the Potomac bridges on his way to work yesterday morning and, being a responsible citizen, he informed the emergency services.

They still hadn’t responded at noon.

he’s beginning to think he wasted a stamp.

    Kneemail request:

    – My sister goes under the knife today – her third spinal surgery.
    – Her husband doesn’t know it yet (she hasn’t told him because he’s already stressed out enough with his mother’s health problems, his cancer, and his wife’s surgery), but it looks like his cancer is spreading. They were going to wait until the beginning of the year for his surgery to give my sister time enough to heal so she can take care of him, but they will be moving his surgery to asap status.
    – Lovely called me this morning about her sorority sister, her “big sister,” with whom she is very close. Her Big’s mother and grandmother were in a car crash last night. Grandma has passed away, and mom is in ICU in a coma.

Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers today. Thanks.

Seems he’d have a pretty good case since they told him to leave the airport.

Next week will be interesting. The airports are already a zoo, now this.

In addition to an opt-out day, a whole bunch of people need to get the cheapest ticket they can find, then flash mob the checkpoint at the same time, all opting out. It wouldn’t take a whole lot to completely clog a checkpoint with total gridlock.

I spent the last 2 days over at M.D. Anderson being checked out on the cancer they removed a couple of months ago. I was embarrassed when I told the surgeon, “I forgot how old I am.”
He replied, “I’ll tell you how old you are. Take off your clothes and bend over.”
He checked my prostate and said, “You’re seventy.”
“Amazing” I said, “How can you tell?”
    “You told me yesterday.”

P.S. All signs of the cancer are still 100% gone. Next checkup in February.

The paragon of virtue, Charlie Rangel is found guilty of ethics violations. What punishment do you figger they will impose?? In a just world, the obvious punishment would be expulsion from the House of Representatives and a permanent bar from ever holding elected office again. That is what should have happened to Bawney Fwank, instead he got a “censure” which basically amounts to a stern “no- no, don’t do that again;” it doesn’t even rise to a slap on the wrist in the real world. He was found guilty of, among other things, owning several rent controlled apartments in NYC when the rules stipulate that you are allowed only one. What is the city and state of NY going to do about this, don’t you figger that there are criminal penalties for said behavior??

    This is pretty sad.

Target was one of three dogs credited with helping to save U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. Soldiers in Young’s unit befriended the strays, Target, Sasha and Rufus, who more than repaid the favor on Feb. 11 when an intruder tried to get into the soldiers’ barracks.

The dogs began barking and snapping, alerting the soldiers. Unable to get inside the barracks, the intruder — who had 25 pounds of explosives strapped to his body — blew himself outside. Five soldiers were wounded, but Young and his comrades said the dogs saved many lives.

The soldiers were allowed to bring the two surviving dogs back to the states with them. Tragically, Target was euthanized by mistake at an animal shelter.

When She got off work ’bout 3, She came down to Clear Lake and brought her new (2007) Corvette, red, 405 HP, auto with paddle shifters. I took it for a spin up the Gluf Freeway parking lot them over to hiway 3. Near Ellington the speed limit is 55 so I punched it a little and it made 60 in about 4 seconds, fish-tailing slightly. 30 Bonehead,

A U.S. Congressman guilty of ethics violations? Shocked! Shocked I tell you!

Influence and power corrupts. It will not shock me one bit if some of the newly elected freshmen congressmen face the same fate as Charlie in a few years. We elect humans and not angels; the latter being prohibited by the Constitution.

I was far more disheartened when Randall Cunningham (R) went down for corruption. Not because he was treated unfairly, but because he was certainly guilty of putting his mits in the till. No, I really thought “Tex” Cunningham was made of better stuff. I never had the same illusion about Charlie Rangel.

I think that the honorable thing (ironic aint it?) for Representative Rangel would be to resign so the rest of the Congress could get on with America’s business. Some new Democratic face from his district would take his place in a special election. (You don’t really believe that a Republican could get elected in Harlem do you?)

Sadly, I think he will hang on like some well-past-prime athlete, who cannot move on to something else. All we need is the deus ex machina to make this Greek Tragedy complete.

I am far more perturbed at the soon to be former Speaker of the House who pledged to drain the swamp. She did not keep her word and yup, she got fired.

Reminds me of something I saw some years ago….

I was on Spencer in Pasadena at night, and there was construction going on. The road was down to one lane each way, and additional stop lights had been installed to control the traffic. I was third in line at the stop light. The truck at the front of the line had stopped at the light and was waiting, but when it was obvious there was no cross traffic, the driver hit the gas and went right through the red light.

Then the car behind him turned on his flashing lights and also went through the red light after him.

“White Power!” the Nazi’s tried once again in a doomed and somewhat funny attempt to clarify their message, “ohhhhhh!” the clowns yelled “Tight Shower!” and held a solar shower in the air and all tried to crowd under to get clean as per the Klan’s directions.

At this point several of the Nazi’s and Klan members began clutching their hearts as if they were about to have a heart attack. Their beady eyes bulged, and the veins in their tiny narrow foreheads beat in rage. One last time they screamed “White Power!”

    I hate Illinois Knoxville NAZIs.

    Best line in the piece:

“Quite on the contrary. Fundamentalists as so sex crazy that bare breasts would make them flock to the country. Perhaps one should try naked pigs and pork – that’ll keep them away…” Khader says.

    😀

Well, I fed my sister’s chickens. Fortunately, she had the rooster stick by the gate. I think the last time I was attacked by a rooster I was about six years old. I remember how frightened I was, since all I could see were the spurs heading my way and the wings and neck feathers filling my field of view. I don’t think roosters have gotten any smaller since I was six. I know he packed quite a punch. After I poked him back with the hoe handle, he focused on the handle and kept trying to kill it, so I managed to escape the chicken pen with repeated jabs and whacks and keeping the end of the stick away from my body. That rooster packs a heavy punch!

They had no food, so I picked a few greens from the garden and got a coupla shovels of compost complete with bugs – for them. Poor things, they were cooped up all day, literally. They were out of chicken feed, so I went to the store and got some bird seed. Sylvester, the rooster, was watching me and I really didn’t want to go head-to-head with him again, so I just threw the seed over the fence or from the gate.

Bro-in-law should be by after work to put them up for the night. Nephew should be buying chicken feed this evening. I guess between the three of us we’ll keep the chickens happy until sis is ready to resume chicken duties.

I did get three fine looking yard eggs for my efforts.

Did it without letting the Bush tax cuts expire, or cutting troop levels in the Middle East, too.

The friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds.

Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought this was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not.

He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him.

So the rival florist hired Hugh McTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to “persuade” them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he’d be back if they didn’t close up shop.

Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that: Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.

Gawd, these people are insane, letting kids and cats get that close to alligators crawling freely out of the swamp they all live in.

One of the comments: “This is some stupid sh!t, right here. Frigging child and animal endangerment.”

While I’m sure he’d be delicious with a few carrots bobbing beside him, he’s protecting his hens from something that’s been trying to get into the chicken coop at night.

Besides, I don’t think he’d go without at least taking a finger or toe or sumpin’.
