Another day, another attack on someone else, trying to lay blame on others for one’s own errors.
President Obama has been telling any and everybody he can that the coming “sequestration”, which was his own idea and he signed into law, will “cost hundreds thousands of jobs”.
As you may recall, back in 2011, during a battle over increasing the debt limit, Republicans demanded certain budget cuts in return for increasing the debt limit. The Democrats, sensing that they had the Republicans over a barrel (which they did because of media complicity) held firm in their demands to raise taxes “on the wealthiest among us”. In order to break this deadlock, President Obama suggested the “sequester”, a collection of tax increases and budget cuts that would be so toxic that the two sides would be forced to come to an agreement.
Fast-forward a bit. A few months ago, the Democrats and President Obama successfully fought the Republicans over another debt limit increase, and the Republicans agreed to the Democrats’ tax increase plan, deferring the budget cuts until March 1.
For those who don’t know what day it is, March 1 happens to be next week. The Republicans are demanding budget cuts equal to or greater than the sequester cuts and the Democrats won’t cut anything and want to raise taxes even more.
This leaves the Republicans in a somewhat enviable position where if they do nothing, they get a very large chunk of what they want and the Democrats get – nothing.

A good rule of thumb is to consider this: Out of the universe of possible actions, consequences for actions, unintended consequences, and the like, the one thing you can absolutely rule out as a possibility is whatever it is the politicos are claiming will happen, or whatever it is they claim they want to happen. On that you can rest assured.

Edddd Hendeeee played video/audio clips on the radio this morning that absolutely nails JugEars as the pathological liar that he is. Hopefully (not holding my breath) the Rs will nail his lying hide to the wall on this one with an ad campaign and actually push things rightward.

Good morning Hamsters. Breeze from the east is pretty vigorous this monring and made the 54 when I turned the mares out at 7 a bit too chilly to skip wearing a jacket or vest. Which I had skipped. And regretted by the time I walked into the barn,
Pray the Pubbies stumble into doing the right thing by doing nothing to stop the sequester and let Obama hold the bag this time. Good Lord, they have the video of Obama in 2011 pushing the sequester and signing the bill. Run ads with that contrasting yesterday’s whiny speech. Or will they stupidly leave it to conservative organizations to do that?
We shall see–and take notes. 🙂 -
Texas Transportation Forum
The big question the Panama Canal discussion tried to answer was whether or not Texas is ready for the coming tidal wave of trade and super-barges (and cargo that will be off-loaded onto super-trucks). The answer is ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ -
#5 Shannon from your linkie:
Director of Port of Corpus Christi John LaRue opined that the majority of the Harbor Maintenance Fund, a federal tax on imports, has been notoriously raided by Congress for things like deficit reduction and isn’t getting to our ports for proper dredging. Of the $1.4 billion collected per year, only $850 million actually goes to ports. So the raid of funds contributes to Texas’ struggle to be ready with deeper ports to accommodate the bigger, heavier ships headed our way, primarily from Asia.
Let’s not forget that building and maintaining roads, harbors and bridges are CONSTITUTIONALLY MANDATED FUNCTIONS OF THE FEDERAL GOVT., and as such any funds diverted from those functions constitute misappropriation of funds and is a criminal act anywhere else but Congress. Welfare is not a constitutionally mandated function, nor is SS or medicaide/medicare. SS is a sticky problem because the taxes were taken by force with the promise of a return, the program needs to be phased out as it is unworkable and it is foolish to trust the govt to do anything but lie and steal.

I still hear “conservative” radio talk shows — those on 1070 AM — saying the sequester would be a disaster and must be averted.

Sam Alone is on 1070 at 7am.

#11 TT: The following was just sent to Magpul:
Dear Sir or Madam:
A move to Texas would be good for Magpul because:
1) You would be closer to the source of raw materials, minimizing your transportation costs. The Houston area is the petrochemical center of the world.
2) Texas is very firearm friendly. You will have lots of customers right here.
3) Unions do not control manufacturing in Texas. We have lots of skilled workers in Texas who are willing and ready to work, without the ridiculous union entanglements.
4) NO STATE INCOME TAX. This contributes directly to your bottom line.
As you may have guessed, I am proud of our state. I have not been authorized to send this message to you by any State representative and am not employed by the State in any fashion. I am a private citizen and as a private citizen, I am encouraging you to relocate to Texas because it is good for you and good for Texas.
Kindest Regards

The mass of the particle, which was uncovered at the world’s largest particle accelerator — the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva — is a key ingredient in a calculation that portends the future of space and time.
“This calculation tells you that many tens of billions of years from now there’ll be a catastrophe,”I don’t think I’m gonna skip my house payment.

Detroit is run by the unions and is bankrupt, ditto Chicago, ditto Illinois, Philadelphia, LA, Greece, France, etc. The common thread in all of these failures is unions, both public and private with their unreasonable demands and poor work ethic.

G’Morning All
The GAO say that even if they balance the budget, the debt interest per year is greater than the GDP and we’ll still be doomed in a few years. They’re gonna have to come up with a budget that makes money instead of break even, Think they’ll do that. I say no way and will take on all bettors. -
Soledad headed out at CNN
According to the New York Post, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien is leaving the network. It’s already been reported that Chris Cuomo and Erin Burnett would be taking over the morning slot currently hosted by O’Brien. Apparently, she has nowhere left to go on the network and has decided to leave.
What else was she going to do, hang out in the green room?
O’Brien’s tenure hosting “American Morning” has been nothing short of a disaster for CNN. The ratings are embarrassingly low and the left-wing anchor has repeatedly made a fool of herself pretending to be an unbiased, objective journalist.
The identity politics’ obsessed O’Brien has also hosted a number of primetime CNN specials answering such pressing questions as, “Who’s Black in America?” Who at CNN will take over the role of wasting money, resources, and broadcast time answering stupid questions has not yet been announced. -

Jay Leno is fearless and can get away with almost anything. I expect even Hill, Bill, Bronco and Mooch found that amusing. -

Important facts on the looming #Sequester
1. The sequester was President Obama’s idea.
2. Republicans passed two plans to replace the President’s sequester, yet Senate Democrats have passed no replacement.
3. In 2013 the federal government will take in more revenue than ever before.
… 4. I voted “no” on #Sequester
We need massive spending cuts to replace the President’s #sequester. Thousands of jobs are in jeopardy if this bad policy goes through on March 1st. It’s time for #POTUS and Senate Democrats to offer a plan. -
I’m sure this clarifies things for the menfolk out there.
Of course, if they would listen better, we wouldn’t have to repeat ourselves..over and over and over…and that might bring the word count down! -

Dan O’Connor over at Mises has written a book review of Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke the World by Liaquat Ahamed. O’Connor has some reservations about some of the author’s predilections and focuses his review instead on the story within the book regarding the formation of the West’s central banks.
Although Ahamed acknowledges that artificially low interest rates encouraged the bubble of the 1920s, he fails to recognize its central role. Although he acknowledges the secretive nature of our banking system and the way in which powerful bankers benefit from the system, he glosses over these facts as though they are indelible components of “capitalism,” not realizing that central banking is in fact antithetical to a free market system.

Although the empirical evidence (gathered via passive research, namely being an unfortunate victim of said “emission” due to suboptimal temporal geography, i.e. in the wrong place at the wrong time) tends to support the assertion. No analysis is necessary; the conclusions are intuitively obvious to even the most casual observer.

Had a good class tonight. I moved one of my later classes up, so we could talk about the whole Pope replacement process. We talked about the hierarchy of the church, the different types of deacons and priests, religious/clergy/laity, cardinals/bishops, etc.
I really didn’t need a bouncer in the room tonight. I broke up the talkers first, and then the rest of the class, most of them were scribbling notes like crazy. At the end, while waiting for parents to pick up, I played hangman with them, using words used in class. Wonder Girl won enough candy to keep her on a sugar high for the next few days. -

The burglar’s family tries to intimidate an elderly victim that he should have warned the thief before firing at him? What chutzpah!
The only warning that an intruder deserves is the sound of shell going into the chamber just before the report, which the intruder might not hear.
And the old guy should get a retraining order on that whole family, for their protection. -
