San Antonio presents grievances to Mexican state legislature
December 19, 1832
On this day in 1832, San Antonio became the first Texas town to present a list of grievances to the legislature of Coahuila and Texas. The document known as the Bexar Remonstrance was signed by José Ángel Navarro, alcalde of San Antonio. It sought repeal of that part of the Law of April 6, 1830, banning immigration from the United States. It also sought the separation of Texas from Coahuila. -

OK, guys—
Got a favor to ask.
I got myself into a bit of a quandry by being a nice guy. I wanted to give away a piece if gear and thought of a way to have a sort of a contest by having folks tell a joke and I’d picked the one I thought was funniest. Well, right now there’s over 200 jokes here.
Could you guys peruse and maybe nominate one of two for final consideration?
Just identify by post number and I’ll take it from there.
Thanks. -

RE: FT (my #30)
I don’t remember signing up or registering. When I went back to the link, I couldn’t see the article. I think that orginally I was linked to it from a different site. Anyway….
I’ve heard that there may be a bacterial reason for obesity. It seems that Chinese researchers have definitively proven the enterobacter (?) bacteria in the gut interfere with the body’s storage and usage of fat.
They used studies where they fed rats the same diet, but one had the bacteria and the other didn’t. Infected rat became obese. They did an experiment on a man, and after killing off the bacteria, the man lost something like 29% of his body weight in a matter of weeks. He was not allowed to exercise. I don’t recall the exact number of weeks – I think it was somewhere between 3-5 months. I can’t verify because I can’t get to the article myself now. -
#32 TT: From the comments section of your linkie: It is long but worth every word to read.
BLACKSELLOUT
This is closer to the truth of what you see with the media and with liberals in general. I wrote this yeaterday, so please excuse the cut and paste. I just didn’t feel like re-writing from scratch. I have lived with it my entire life:
Most white liberals are ignorant of the world around them and fear the black culture. They stay very far away from it and then transform their obvious fear into a diatribe against others who actually DO see all individuals as, inherently, equal. The IDEA of equality makes liberals feel smug, but the ACTUALITY of equality is to be avoided . Therefore, when a black man gains access to college through affirmative action, for example, he is championed as a positive. He gets to go to the school, but remains beholden to a policy written by white liberals as a means for his success. Many in the black community see WHITE liberals the same way conservatives see ALL liberals. They know that they are being used as tools to make these people feel superior and they resent it. They also become the recipients of vast handouts granted by the people who they know fear them the most. They’re offered free advantage, and most take it. Why not?
A black man who succeeds based purely on true merit and has determined that his freedom is just as justifiable as anyone else’s is a threat to liberals. Just as a woman is who finds happiness in raising children and taking on the role of a traditional housewife. These particular individuals are no longer beholden, and they become worthless to the need most liberals have to be appreciated as something superior. These individuals are then attacked for daring to live their own lives and being accountable for their own actions. Once the need for the gracious white liberal has been abolished, the purpose of that same gracious white liberal ceases to exist, and liberals, traditionally so needy in an emotional sense, strongly dislike the notion of more people following suit. They then term those people who use free will outside of the liberals’ prescribed plan as “Uncle Toms”, or “sellouts”, when, if one were to look at the TRUTH of the matter, the exact opposite is true. It is the black liberal leaders who are the “Uncle Toms” and the “sellouts” by choosing to remain beholden to the plan these white liberals put in place for them.
It’s not racism. It’s fear. They have brought it upon themselves, but will continue to blame conservatives for it.
It’s just what liberals do. -
#30 TT: This is a link to the enterobacter critter. There is no mention of fat.
-
This was the second article I’ve come across in the last few years about bacteria and obesity.
I know that even if I work out religiously and cut my diet waaay back, I can lose some weight but it’s difficult to do and almost impossible to keep off. I need to get back to the diet thing; even though I didn’t lose as much weight as I wanted, it was a healthier diet. That alone is a reason for doing it. -
OH, found out how I linked to the story.

HEADLINE:Berlusconi says Italy may be forced to leave the euro zone
ROME (Reuters) – Former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi said on Tuesday Italy would be forced to leave the euro zone unless the European Central Bank gets more powers to ensure lower borrowing costs.
Berlusconi, who announced this month he will again lead his People of Freedom party (PDL) in a national election expected in February, said on a talk-show on state broadcaster RAI that the ECB should become a lender of last resort for the currency bloc.
“If Germany doesn’t accept that the ECB must be a real central bank, if interest rates don’t come down, we will be forced to leave the euro and return to our own currency in order to be competitive,” Berlusconi said in comments reported by Italian news agencies Ansa and Agi.Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal and France are all goners.

So that is America in 2012. And where do we go from here? For starters, we need to stop fooling ourselves. Many Johnny-come-lately-to-reality types started talking about Republicans’ demographic and cultural winter only after the Nov. 6 election, as if some kind of unforeseeable revolution had taken place. But while it may have represented a tipping point, a long Gramscian evolution had pushed America to that point. A process is in motion, a disease besets us, and if you understand its pathology, you know that no amount of Hispandering or appeals to virtue (e.g., personal responsibility) with an electorate largely lacking in the quality will bear fruit. The remaining healthy acorns need to recognize this, stop trying to fertilize a tree destined for the sawmill, and instead prepare to seed new ground.

Most sobering essay I have ever read. Guess I can stop re-posting all those anti-Obama cartoons on Facebook. -
Hey, I could be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time. But looking back at history its hard to argue against his “Gramscian evolution” theory.
-
Who is Gramsci, by the way?
-
He was an Italian Marxist whose theory was that civilization and Christianity were so intertwined, even for non-Christians, that Marxist infiltration into churches and schools was the only way to break the link. That’s where all the “social justice” theology comes from.
-
Here’s a good essay on Gramsci.
The whole goal of Gramscis’s Marxist strategy of cultural revolution was to infiltrate the institutions of capitalist and industrialized society–the arts, cinema, media, schools, churches, synagogues, etc. Once the hold on the culture was complete, by dint of “the long march through the institutions,” a long march through the halls of government could begin–a fundamental transformation per social change toward a pure Communistic society.
-
Hoo boy, I find I cannot stop re-posting anti-Obama in FB after all. I went to my feed and re-posted most of it.

I don’t think that’s the scene but that sure is a funny movie. I’ve had Smokey and the Bandit II queued up in Netflix forever but I haven’t sat and watched it yet. Last I remember viewing it was probably about 25-30 years ago. (I don’t know when it was released) -

#66 “Bout that “backseat”, I’ve been told, that ifin’ you borrow your dad’s 66 Chrysler two door hardtop, with the bucket seats, that you can drive it down to the Fan Drive In and park on the back row and when you push those buckets forward, you have about 46 acres in the back. Also, if it’s cold, you can run back across the road on the back row and remove one of the lights, screw in your socket with the two plugs on it, screw the bulb back in, plug in an extension cord and run it to the car so that you can plug in the Sears & Throwback ‘Lectric blanket….Remember though, that this just hearsay. 😀

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing – Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas
I really like the majestic tone MoTab belts out at the 2 minute mark. It’s appropriate considering the lyrics behind the latter part of the music:Hail, the Heaven born Prince of peace, hail the Sun of righteousness
Light and life to all he brings, risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by, born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth
Hark! The Herald Angels sing, glory to the newborn King -

#80 Darren, man that’s great! Years ago, we’d watch the Morman Tabernacle Choir every year around Christmas time. It would be on Sunday night on NBC, I think? (we only got CBS & NBC). Of course we were watching it on a 1963 RCA color 21″ round tube TV with a 4″ speaker.
Have you even seen them in person? I’d love to do that. -
While Niki and I enjoy much music (not all of it) from trans-Siberian Orchestra, it’s rare that we enjoy their singing. Here’s one in which we really do enjoy.

Super Dave #82;
Have you even seen them in person? I’d love to do that.
Unfortunately I have not. I did tour the tabernacle at Temple Square and this was before the new tabernacle was built. The presenter demonstrated the effectivness of the accoustics by dropping a pen in the front of the room which was clearly heard way in the back of the room. this is due to the somed shaped cieling which was designed to rebound soundwaves to all parts of the room. The new tabernacle is a typical recatangular-shaped room with speakers all around to transmit sound. I’m sure they are a big larger than 4″. 😉
I’m glad you enjoyed the video as well as listening tothe mormon Tabernacle Choir every Christmas. If you have cable / sattellite than you should be able to get them on the BYU Channel. You’ll just have to watch for the Christmas celebrations.
😀 (Rhuelin wanted to type that smiley in. Cute boy). -
And, wow, an RCA TV. I haven’t seen any of those in many years.

Just found out one of my old high school running buddies died in his sleep last night. We haven’t kept in touch for 20 years or so, but damn. Makes you think about your own mortality.
-
Hamous, ain’t it the truth, we’re not getting any younger. Prayers to his family, if y’all ran together he was too young to die. I get E Mails from my old high school every year telling me about the reunion and when they send the list of 72 alumni, a few have already passed away and it changes every year.

“Bout my #88, my sister went to school with a guy that went to work with his dad when he got out of school. His dad was a home builder and he took over the bussiness when his dad retired in 2005. He had a heart attack two years ago and now his boy (34) is running the business. He’s going to close in the 10X12 back porch on the farm house and make it into a laundry room. He also talked me into getting a “tankless water heater”.

Hamous;
I blogged on LST once about a friend of mine who called me out of the blue, like you, it was at least 20 years since we one and he was my best and Longest running (chronologically) friend of all. It was good to hear from him but unfortunately he called to let me know that his sister had passed away. She was only a couple years older than me. I had my thoughts about my mortality a that moment as well.
Thoughts and prayers to your friend and his loved ones. -
Thanks, Darren.
