God of peace,
we pray for those who have served our nation
and have laid down their lives
to protect and defend our freedom. We pray for those who have fought,
whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war,
whose nights are haunted by memories
too painful for the light of day.We pray for those who serve us now,
especially for those in harm’s way.
Shield them from danger
and bring them home.Turn the hearts and minds
of our leaders and our enemies
to the work of justice and a harvest of peace.Spare the poor, Lord, spare the poor!
May the peace you left us,
the peace you gave us,
be the peace that sustains,
the peace that saves us.Christ Jesus, hear us!
Lord Jesus, hear our prayer!Amen.

USMC 1960-64
G’Morning all:
November 11, 1918, End of WWI, founding of Armistice Day to honor those lost during the war, later (1954 I believe) changed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans.Former Georgia Senator and Governor Zell Miller: “For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag.”

God bless all the vets, their families, and all of the support groups like the USO. It is not an easy duty to perform, and the burdens they carry with them can last for years. It is these brave men and women who enable our freedom to endure.
Hopefully not to be erased by idiocy back home.
May the Lord place his hands and his blessings upon them all.

Some observations on Obama’s India trip:
Obama met with India’s leading businessmen in New Delhi Saturday. He asked them for advice on how to fix the ailing U.S. economy.
They told him to turn the economy off for five minutes and then turn it back on and see if that fixes the problem.
and:
The Fed devalued the dollar Wednesday, drawing a protest from China and Japan and Germany.
The Democrats seem to be in total disarray. They’ve lost the House, they’ve devalued the currency and now they’ve outsourced the presidency to India.
finally:
Obama visited the Mahatma Gandhi memorial in India Monday amid tight security. He wasn’t allowed on the streets of India.
The Secret Service agents would have lost their jobs if he got trampled by elephants for the second Tuesday in a row.

One of the things to be tackled by our legislatures – state and national, as appropriate:
1) Consistent methods statewide for ballot handling. This should be enforced by volunteers and/or members of both parties being present.
2) Video – including audio – of the check-in tables, to be run from before the first voter arrives to the final voter departs. Video should NOT be taken of the voting booths themselves.
3) Poll watchers, poll watchers, poll watchers.
4) Deadlines for “missing” ballots. If a ballot box does not make it to the counting center by x number of hours after the polls close, those votes are not counted. It seems that in this day and time, those late votes almost always seem to skew unnaturally to the Dem side. Regardless of the skewing, those election judges know where to take the boxes, and they should be taken immediately and handed over. Votes arriving 3 or 4 days late are unacceptable.
5) Severe penalties for voter fraud and the pressuring by “translators” and “assistants” for a voter to vote a certain way.
6) Instead of assistance begin given at the actual voting booth, a sample booth should be nearby so that the election judge or other appointed official can walk the voter through the procedure. Then the voter can vote on his/her own, without anyone at his/her shoulder pressuring them to vote while being watched.
7) If a legislator is filling a vacancy, the winner of that election should be seated promptly. Whatever the average is of the shortest three time periods of similar circumstances should be the deadline for seating the new legislator. For example, Joe Smith wins the election to fill the seat vacated by the death of Frank Jones. This circumstance – where an election was held to fill a seat vacated before the term was over – has occurred five times before. The time frame in days to seat each newly elected legislator after certification was: 5, 6, 3, 7, and 10. The shortest three events were 3,5, and 6. The average, rounded up, is 5. Therefore, the longest period the new legislator should have to wait to be seated is 5 days. No more fiddling with paperwork for two or three weeks, delaying the seating of this representative to give the incumbent party a temporary advantage. That’s just a few ideas.

O.K. get the Kleenex out. Here is the Navy Hymn, God bless them.
Navy Hymn Eternal Father-Strong to Save
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzaNWO6gufA
Eternal Father, Strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bid’st the mighty Ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to thee,
for those in peril on the sea.O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked’st on the foaming deep,
and calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea! Most Holy spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea!O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe’er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee,
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea. -

Ya fragot:
8. State-issued photo identification should be required in order to vote at polling places.
9. Voter rolls should be purged of all people who have: died, not voted in the past five years, committed serious crimes, have registered in any other jurisdiction since the last time they voted in the one in which they are attempting to vote.
10. Stringent procedures for absentee voting. We’ve seen cases where 45 people live on a vacant lot and all manage to vote. Requiring notarized requests is insufficient as local notaries can easily be corrupted, Consideration should be made whether absentee voting by anyone other than active duty military even be allowed. -

I was going to suggest that those precincts where more votes and than registered voters occur have all those votes tossed, but then that would provide an easy way for vote fraudsters to have opposition precincts disqualified – by submitting more votes in opposition precincts.
But then, if we disallow absentee ballots, as you suggest, that would be harder to do. Especially if we videotape the check-in to discourage fraudsters from coming in with fake IDs and voting more than once.
11) All votes from nursing homes and similar places should be scrutinized very carefully. Not sure how, but some of those people are quite sane enough to vote, but others are not. If I were in a hospital being treated for injuries on election day, I would like to have the opportunity to vote – but how to get to the polls? If my vote was being handled by the hospital staff for me (collecting a written ballot, for example), how to ensure that those votes are not tampered with?
Maybe Chicago should just be shut down until that cesspool can be cleaned up.

the defeated House Democrats were seen by grief counselors Tuesday. They’re working on going from denial to acceptance.
Once they’ve accepted that their days in Congress are over, they will be counseled about how to transition to other forms of white collar crime.

Also – should state-issued licenses be given to illegals? I may be wrong, but I think they can get driving licenses now. And voter registration cards at the same time. Somehow we need to figure out who our citizens are.

12. All voter registration applications must be accompanied by evidence of citizenship.
n.b. State-issued ID only provide evidence of identity. Other documents (birth certificates, Native American tribal documents, etc) provide evidence of citizenship. Other documents, e.g. a passport provides evidence of both.

How ’bout EVERYONE be issued a certified, wallet size birth certificate or certificated, reduced page from the family bible (some of my friends are still that way). A plus to that would be that everyone’s qualification to serve as President would be already established.

Wasn’t there a lot of resistance to “citizen list” or “national ID card” some time back? Would that fly now? Would the libs cry a river and flood the urban areas? Would this be a good thing?

Their problem with it was they did not want to be required to carry ID with them so the Man couldn’t ask for their “papers”. I’m ok with not requiring an ID.
Unless you happen to be attempting to vote or do one of the many other things that currently require ID.

Another reason for videotaping, else the corrupt election judges would allow the fraudsters to vote w/out inking themselves, to go and vote again.

We could let a few vets act as poll watchers. They bled – or had buddies who bled – for our freedom to vote. I’ll bet they wouldn’t let any voter fraud go through. Most of them, anyway.
I would even be tempted to let them carry firearms, but that would really scare the libs. We’d be characterized as third world country (not quite yet, but TBO is working on it). I can see the riots now.

Dude named ‘Tootie’ hitches a ride with a serious metrosexual(?), then robs him.
What leads us to think he was a metrosexual?
‘Tootie’ swiped his
purseEuropean shoulder bag (it may have been a gift 😉 ), that contained $3,000 in cash, $2,000 in miscellaneous skin care products, a $400 cell phone, $500 in Clinique skin supplies, $300 in jewelry, and $100 in cologne.‘Tootie’ should be easy to spot – he’ll be the hoodlum with the soft, radiant skin and who smells real nice.

You can obtain a license only if you provide proof of lawful presence.
The Department of Public Safety requires applicants who are not U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States to present proof of lawful presence in the U.S. before being issued an original, renewal, or duplicate Texas driver license or identification card.
…
If the lawful admission period in the U.S. expires in LESS than six months from the date of application, no DL or ID card (original, renewal, or duplicate) will be issued. If unable to present Lawful Presence documentation, no DL or ID card will be issued. -

Okay, does this mean that temporary residents get licenses? It doesn’t mean citizenship, but this would allow them to vote.

I beg to differ. Who at the registrar’s office checks for citizenship before registering to vote? What’s to stop someone with a license from walking into a polling center and filing a provisional ballot? In some places (Chicago) it may not even be a provisional one.

#37 For one thing, a license issued to a lawful permanent resident or a temporary license issued to a lawful temporary resident will be identified as such and could not be used to register to vote. Obviously it is up to each county’s registrar to screen new registrations. I think Harris county does a pretty good job.
I really don’t think illegals registering to vote is a significant problem. The last thing illegals want to do is walk into a polling place with a bunch of “official” people and try to vote. Heck, legal hispanics are always the lowest voter turnout group.

I’ve seen illegals vote before. This leads me to Election Correction Suggestion #15:
15) At each polling place, there shall be a prominent notice in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, etc., the federal law, or a synopsis thereof, of the illegality of non-citizens to vote, and the consequences thereof. (I believe that an illegal gives up the right to become a citizen if caught voting fraudulently.)

GENERAL WILSON’S BIRTHDAY TOAST
On the occasion marking the birthday of the US Marine Corps, 1978, onboard
Camp LeJeune, and in the presence of several thousand Marines and their
ladies, General Louis H. Wilson, CMC, arose to deliver his long awaited
address to the troops. He approached the rostrum, nodded to the CG’s
(Base, FSSG and Division) and proceeded to explain to the captive masses
that he would be short on words that night – then turned to his bride, took a
glass and, amid absolutely DEAD SILENCE, offered this toast – and
promptly SAT DOWN.LOVE
THE WONDERFUL LOVE OF A BEAUTIFUL MAID,
THE LOVE OF A STAUNCH TRUE MAN,
THE LOVE OF A BABY, UNAFRAID,
HAVE EXISTED SINCE TIME BEGAN.BUT THE GREATEST OF LOVES,
THE QUINTESSENCE OF LOVES,
EVEN GREATER THAN THAT OF A MOTHER,
IS THE TENDER, PASSIONATE, INFINITE LOVE,
OF ONE DRUNKEN MARINE FOR ANOTHER.THE WHOOPIN AND HOLLERIN WENT ON FOR A GOOD TEN MINUTES

THE LOVE OF A BABY, UNAFRAID,
HAVE EXISTED SINCE TIME BEGAN.BUT THE GREATEST OF LOVES,
THE QUINTESSENCE OF LOVES,
EVEN GREATER THAN THAT OF A MOTHER,
IS THE TENDER, PASSIONATE, INFINITE LOVE,
OF ONE DRUNKEN MARINE FOR ANOTHER.THE WHOOPIN AND HOLLERIN WENT ON FOR A GOOD TEN MINUTES

‘TIL ONCE AGAIN THEY’RE HOME
Every day I see their pictures
In print or on the screen
The faces of these warrior lads
So young, so strong, so leanThe sight of them running
Towards the noise of war
And praying all together
Is something from our loreWas this the way I looked
So many years ago
Were you and I the images
Our fathers once did showOh keep them God today
Keep them safe from harm
Bring them home whole again
Back to house or farmLord steel our courage now
To match these lads of ours
Endure our country’s heart
‘Til again they’re at our doorsAnd help us end this war
And bring to them the peace
And comfort those among us
Whose warriors they’ve releasedGod bring us victory soon
Bring peace upon that land
With hope and love and justice
Please, as soon as canAnd when at last our lads return
To place of hearth and home
Shelter them with all Your love
For the courage they have shownSemper fidelis,

We need to give a date by the end of 2015 that all driver’s licenses or state issued ID’s must be renewed and have on the card listed a place of birth, and a copy of the individual’s birth certificate on file with the issuing agency. That gives everybody five years to get their birth certificate and have it ready.
I would then give the states another 5 years for them to authenticate the birth certificates with the issuing state or country.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields. -

I may be guilty of poor timing here on Veteran’s Day but –
Am I the only one steaming about this?
Apparently now, with the election safely in hand – an election, by the way, during which Governor Perry ran campaign ads touting(and taking full responsibility for) the great fiscal shape Texas is in due solely to his leadership, once again, a few weeks after the election, the campaign ads are dismissed as nothing more than campaign rhetoric(k) and Texans must now deal with a $25 BILLION DEFICIT.
I would not lay the blame for this fiscal train wreck solely at Governor Perry’s feet save one minor detail – Governor Perry took full responsibility for Texas “great” fiscal condition in his campaign ads. Dust the cobwebs off and remember a few weeks back when we were blitzed with ads proclaiming “Texas is on the right track”. Now we find out the Texas fiscal train flew off the tracks in spectacular fashion.
Personally, I don’t understand why Texans continue to bend over for this type of political intercourse. Senator Patrick also needs to be taken to task for jumping behind this campaign fraud that was foisted on the Texas electorate.
Frankly, I’d had enough some time ago.
The “he’s the lesser of two evils” card won’t play here no more.
I hope more folks wake up to this political scam.
Thanks, Governor Perry(and his newfound cheerleader Senator Patrick).

Consideration should be made whether absentee voting by anyone other than active duty military even be allowed.
As an expat I take exception to that comment. I assure you I still have a vested interest in what happens in all the districts I happen to be gerrymandered into. All voter information is stored in a database of some sort. It should not be a big ordeal to cross reference whether or not an address is something other than a residence. The same goes for whether or not 2 – 4 voters live at an address or 45. Yes, we need to reign in voter fraud, but not by casting such a large net that it disenfranchises a legitimate voter.

TexMo – I’m sure that expats were an oversight in his comments. I believe he was taking aim at those who vote absentee WHILE LIVING IN THE DISTRICT, rather get up off their butts and voting in person.

We probably didn’t need an MRI machine, a team of researchers, and 16 un-bashful ladies to figure this one out.
The scientists used the machine to observe which parts of the brain became active at each phase. The film, based on images taken of the women’s brains every two seconds, shows the surges in electrical activity as an orgasm overwhelms different combinations of brain areas in turn. They flood not only the brain’s “reward circuits” but also the parts associated with rational thought.
Video is here.

#50 Bob42, comparable research on men require only one unbashful lady since the brain affected is much smaller.

It is highly suspected that the ending of WW1 falling on November 11th was a plot by high level Marines to create a national holiday to fall the day after the Marine Corps birthday on November the 10th. It provided a great opportunity to have a day to sleep on the celebrations – not to mention an additional day to celebrate!

Actually, it could have ended on the 10th.
But the Marines were too busy at the ball to participate.

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month as the bell tower clock was striking and all England stood in grave silence in remembrance of a devastating was which nearly wiped out a generation of their young men…
Islamic protesters sparked fury today after they burned a model of a poppy and deliberately broke the silence at Armistice Day commemorations in central London.
As millions of Britons fell silent to remember those who have died in war, members of a group called Muslims Against Crusades clashed with police during an ’emergency demonstration’ in Kensington, west London.

WB #55, that was a great story. Thanks so much. I sent it to my best buddy, a Marine who is Jewish.
Here is another that will make you wonder at the bravery of those who serve: http://www.combatwife.net/memcapodanno.htm

The Brits take Armistice Day very seriously, as they lost hundreds of thousands of their young men in the ’14-’18 war.Jonny Osborne shows that there is indeed hope for them. Maybe when he is of sufficient age, he can participate in sweeping the Muslim scourge from the island.
Jonny wore three of his medals yesterday as a guest of the Association of Veterans of Foreign wars, of which his U.S.-resident grandfather Terry Burton is president.
His other great-uncle, Len Burton, was shot by a German sniper in Italy in 1945.
So yesterday the great-nephew they never met added a few medals of his own to his blazer, among them a Spitfire emblem alongside Union Flag and Stars and Stripes badges.Jonny, who attends a Church of England primary school near his home in North London, added: ‘I said a prayer for them. I like praying to God. I think people should. There were lots and lots of people praying for these guys.’

Hugh Hewitt has been interviewing, one right after another, Marines and soldiers injured in Afghanistan and Iraq for a solid 2 hours. The young woman he is interviewing now is paralyzed from the chest down.
These people are astonishing in the bravery and heart.
It is sponsored by, and they were all helped by, the Semper Fi Fund.
They have been in business for 5 years, raised around $50 million, and gave it all away. And they run a 6% or less overhead so at least 94 cents of every dollar goes to a deserving service member.

Tim, anytime the Google logo looks different, they have changed it for some occasion. Move the cursor over it to get a tool tip. Today’s says “Veteran’s Day 2010”.

Well, it’s back to normal now so I can’t look at it again. All I saw was the L and the E were mingled in with a US flag and a cloud of bomb smoke.
