We’re all familiar with most Olympic sports: 100m sprint, 1,500m run, 100m freestyle, 3m springboard, decathlon, heptathlon, etc.
Did you know there are several events that were once practiced, but are now not part of the Olympics?
Live pigeon shooting.
I suppose clays are more humane, but I’d be willing to have them shoot at gray doves, if they wanted.
Tug of War.
Motor boating (no, really – and get your heads out of the gutter, people).
Also:
- Standing long jump
- Underwater swimming
- Standing triple jump
- Dueling pistols (shooting at a target dummy – not another competitor, which would have spiffed up the competition a bit)
I could name a few other sports and “sports” I would make defunct.
