Betcha didn’t know Texas was in the Revolution.
American Revolution reaches Texas
June 21, 1779On this day in 1779, Spain came to the aid of the rebelling American colonists by formally declaring war on Great Britain. The primary role played by Texas in the conflict was to supply Spanish forces mounting an assault on British territory from Louisiana. King Carlos III commissioned Bernardo de Gálvez to conduct a campaign against the British along the Mississippi River and the Gulf Coast. In order to feed his troops, Gálvez sent an emissary, Francisco García, to Texas governor Domingo Cabello y Robles requesting the delivery of Texas cattle to Spanish forces in Louisiana. Accordingly, between 1779 and 1782, 10,000 cattle were rounded up on ranches belonging to citizens and missions of Bexar and La Bahía. Rancho de la Mora was typical of these ranches, and escorts were provided from small posts like the Fuerte de Santa Cruz del Cíbolo. From Presidio La Bahía, the assembly point, Texas rancheros and their vaqueros trailed these herds to Nacogdoches, Natchitoches, and Opelousas for distribution to Gálvez’s forces. Fueled in part by Texas beef, Gálvez and his men defeated the British in battles at Manchac, Baton Rouge, Natchez, Mobile, Pensacola, and New Providence in the Bahamas. He was busy preparing for a campaign against Jamaica when peace negotiations ended the war.

Obama Made Pre-Inaugural ‘Pledge’ on Stopping Guns to Mexico; Holder, Napolitano Worked Issue From First Month
By Terence P. Jeffrey
June 20, 2012President-elect Barack Obama and then-Mexican President Felipe Calderon at the Jan. 12, 2009 meeting where Obama pledged to work to stop flow of guns to Mexico. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)
(CNSNews.com) – Three and a half years before he invoked executive privilege in refusing to hand over to Congress internal Justice Department documents about Operation Fast and Furious–and just eight days before his inauguration–President-elect Barack Obama met with Mexican President Calderon over lunch at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C., and “pledged” that he would take action aimed at stopping the flow of guns into that country from the United States.
Public statements from both Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano demonstrate that they were both personally working on this issue from their first month in office.
Excellent reader’s comment:
What is the difference? Roger Clemens was tried because of “supposedly” lying to Congress? Should the Attorney General and the President also be tried for lying to Congress? Does it matter who lies to Congress? Shouldn’t all who lie to Congress be tried? Maybe a consultation with former President Clinton would be in order; who didn’t know what the definition of “is” is.
President Clinton endured an Impeachment Trial because he supposedly lied to Congress. Should the Attorney General and the President also be tried for lying to Congress? What is the difference between President Clinton lying to Congress and President Obama lying to Congress? I will tell you that no one died because of President Clinton’s actions. However, many people have died in Mexico due to President Obama’s actions with “Fast & Furious” gun running operation into Mexico. The buck stops with the President. It was his agency and his people that illegally sold arms to the Mexican drug cartels. Executive privilege should not shield President Obama from the ramifications of one of “HIS” agencies selling arms to Mexican drug cartels. It appears the Executive Branch is getting involved with things illegal; illegal gun running, illegal trade between nations, and illegal immigration. This is in contrast to what the Executive Branch should be involved with; reducing the Deficit & National Debt, and improving the economy.
The Secretary of State complains about Russia selling arms to Syria. What is the difference between Russia selling arms to Syria and our own BATF selling arms to Mexico’s drug cartels? I do believe that commerce with Mexico falls under the jurisdiction of Congress; “Congress shall have Power…To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations…” (Article 1 Section 8). Therefore, Congress has a Constitution right to know about all trade between nations, including the BATF illegally selling arms to Mexico. Mexico’s drug cartels have killed far more innocent civilians that Syria’s government forces.
This is what our tax dollars are paying for. It is no wonder government spending is out of control.

I had trouble deciding which ritual to perform to properly celebrate the solstice yesterday.
Awed by the great power of the sun, civilizations have for centuries celebrated the first day of summer otherwise known as the Summer Solstice, Midsummer (see Shakespeare), St. John’s Day, or the Wiccan Litha.
The Celts & Slavs celebrated the first day of summer with dancing & bonfires to help increase the sun’s energy. The Chinese marked the day by honoring Li, the Chinese Goddess of Light.
I ultimately concluded that they were all exercises born of silly mythologies, so I enjoyed the sunset with a Nutty Brewnette at BJs instead.

For all the doubting Thomases out there. The Stimulus did create jobs,
$9 Billion in ‘Stimulus’ for Solar, Wind Projects Made 910 Final Jobs — $9.8 Million Per Job
By Michael W. Chapman and Fred Lucas
June 20, 2012Windpower Tax Credit
(CNSNews.com) – The Obama administration distributed $9 billion in economic “stimulus” funds to solar and wind projects in 2009-11 that created, as the end result, 910 “direct” jobs — annual operation and maintenance positions — meaning that it cost about $9.8 million to establish each of those long-term jobs.
At the same time, those green energy projects also created, in the end, about 4,600 “indirect” jobs – positions indirectly supported by the annual operation and maintenance jobs — which means they cost about $1.9 million each ($9 billion divided by 4,600).
Combined (910 + 4,600 = 5,510), the direct and indirect jobs cost, on average, about $1.63 million each to produce.

Asians became the largest U.S. immigrant group this week, passing Hispanics. They’re very successful.
Obama heard the news and said that all children who arrived from Asia through no choice of their own need to pay their fair share.

#20 EG: Don’t forget to add Culberson to that list. That particular seat was first held, I think, by George H W Bush, then Bill Archer. There really is no reason why we can’t have a fire breathing, rock-ribbed, hard-core conservative in that seat to counteract the moon-bat-schizzle crazy lunatics like Nanzi, or Sheila, or Muddy Waters, or Elijah Cummings, or John Lewis, etc, etc, etc.

I encourage the race hustlers to continue to do this:
The highest officer of law and order in this nation has been ridiculed, scapegoated and handled as some sort of criminal throughout this ‘investigation.’ Turning over thousands of documents and overextending himself, AG Holder was spoken to and mistreated as if he were a child, and reminded that despite his esteemed position, he can and would be profiled. AG Holder was in essence ‘stopped & frisked’ without probable cause, and after he cooperated, he was made an example of. What Issa just showed us is that no matter what our stature in this world, someone can easily try to ‘put us in our place.’ What could be more outrageous?
What a buffoon. Every day you look more like the Democrats’ Stepin Fetchit.

The outrageous behavior from Eric “the Terd” Holder just won’t stop.
HEADLINE: DOJ RELEASES MUSLIM TERRORIST; STONEWALLS INQUIRIES
Barack Obama’s Department of Justice is up to its secret ways again. Last year, six Muslims in south Florida were arrested and charged with sending tens of thousands of dollars to fund the Taliban in Afghanistan. Now, as Judicial Watch reports, the DOJ has dropped charges against one of them — but when questioned why, the DOJ has stonewalled and remained silent. How long must this schizzle go on?

Roger Scruton is a serious and essential man, a philosopher and author widely respected in conservative precincts. He is one of the last surviving sane men in the British Isles.
In cooperation with the BBC, Scruton produced this show about the importance of beauty in art, architecture, our public spaces and private places.
This video is 59 minutes long, but I recommend you save it and watch it uninterrupted.

This is hilarious.
How many thousands of books, dissertations, films, etc. have been written about Abraham Lincoln ?
You would think this legion of researchers would have found something as critical as the initial medical report on Lincoln immediately after being shot at the Ford Theater would have been turned up by now, right ?
Wrong. And where was this historical gem ? Right where it was supposed to be…

Still in Sweeny, using my modem at the Jack in the Box. (Getting signal at the unit is iffy at best.) I juggled phone calls and prospective tenants all morning. I literally had people being shown the unit while another was filling out an application. It was rough, juggling all the appointments and names. Some really cute kids made their appearance, one in full Spiderman regalia, complete with the over-the-head Spidey mask! Cute as the dickens, he was! Anyway, it looks like a single mom won the housing lottery, if she can come up with the rent and the deposits. She was first to get me the cash to run her background check.
It seems that there’s a dearth of rentable units in this area.
I’m waiting here for a few minutes before driving back in. I’m glad I brought my netbook with me. If she calls me back soon, I can go ahead and sign the lease and stuff before I leave.

Everybody have a drink on me ! The count was 7-2.
The Supreme Court today rejected, on First Amendment grounds, the idea that government-employee unions can charge non-members for political activities, even if they refund the money later.
The Court, in an opinion by Justice Samuel Alito, held that employees can be required to pay dues in exchange for the benefits they get from collective bargaining, but can’t be forced to effectively lend money to the union for political activities they disagree with. It was a blow to the Service Employees International Union, which first tried to make the case moot by offering refunds, and then argued it would be too difficult to get the assent of non-members before launching a campaign to defeat legislation it considered a threat to its existence.

6. Let’s blue sky this/let’s ballpark this = Let’s shoot around a bunch of ideas since we have no clue what to do

8. I’m a team player/we only hire team players = I hope everyone on the team thinks this is a meritocracy, even though I’m the dictator in charge
9. Let’s circle back to that/Let’s put that in the parking lot/let’s touch base on that later/let’s take this off-line = Shut up and let’s go back to what I was talking about
10. We think outside the box here/color outside the lines = We wouldn’t know about how to do something innovative if it came up to us and bit us in the behind
11. I/we/you don’t have the bandwidth = Since we cut 60% of our headcount, we’re all doing the job of 3 people, so we’re all burned out

13. Net net/the net of it is/when you net it out = I never studied finance or accounting but I sound like someone who can make money if I keep talking about another word for profit
14. We’ll go back and sharpen our pencils = We’ll go back and offer you the same for 20% less in hopes you’ll buy it before the end of the quarter
15. It’s like the book “Crossing the Chasm”/”Blue Ocean”/”Good To Great” / “Tipping Point” / “Outliers” = I’ve never read any of these books but I sound literate if I quote from them. And, besides, you cretins probably never read them either to call me out on it
16. Let’s right-size it = Let’s whack/fire a bunch of people
17. It’s next-gen/turn-key/plug-and-play = I want it to sound so technical that you’ll just buy it without asking me any questions

#39 TP: The same thing happened in China, only to a worse degree. Now the sex imbalance is so great that millions of Chinese men have no hope of marrying a Chinese girl, of that group most will never marry. This is one of those “unintended consequences” stemming from the stupidity and crime of saying: “it’s really not a baby, it is just a mass of tissue, kind of like a tumor”. Fast and Furious: The Ds want to have gun control real bad, I think we all know that. They will do what it takes, will tolerate a certain level of gun crime in order to get the people riled up enough to demand that “something be done.” The Clinton admin attempted the same thing early on with the Ruby Ridge fiasco followed by Waco. That admin refused to hammer the perps committing the gun crimes but went after the legit dealers instead. Now the JugEars admin has actually committed crimes (allowed guns to be sold to known illegals) in the hopes that the ensuing violence would cause America to demand that “something be done.”
Same goal, same strategy for achieving the goal with just a slightly different execution. Interestingly enough, the commonality in both admins is Hitlery and the Chicago connection. -

#54: Do you not recall Ruby Ridge and Waco and all the disinformation surrounding both of those incidents? Do you not recall the interview with Wayne LaPierre (could have been Chas. Heston) when they stated that this admin (Clinton) would be willing to put up with a certain level of violence to get gun control finally passed? Limbaugh spoke of it extensively at the time.
The real goal ( in the minds of the JugEars admin) of F and F was to create so much violence that the US citizen and Mexican citizens/politicians would demand a solution and that solution would be gun control/confiscation. Tracking down drug lords is nothing but a too small fig leaf.
Is Hitlery the driver behind both sets of circumstances, I do not know for sure; however I have my suspicions that she approves of the tactic in both cases. -

So who do the Democrats think their next “rising star” is? You’re not gonna believe this:
I went to a conference of liberal activists this week hoping to find out who the party’s activist base sees as its up-and-coming stars. But the exercise turned out to be revealing largely for how unprepared people were to answer the question. Nearly every answer I got began with a blank stare or incredulous laugh, followed by some fumbling around, followed by “Elizabeth Warren.”
Confirming the impression I’d gleaned from my conversations with activists and organizers, Warren ran away with the 2016 straw poll conducted at the Take Back the American Dream conference in Washington…

further to #55: Think about it for just a minute, the plan stated by this admin was to somehow track the guns once they got into Mexico and have them lead the authoritahs to the drug lords, right? They started letting the guns walk across but had no way to track the guns once they crossed the border and they continued letting guns walk even knowing how flawed the plan was. A child in elementary school would look at this plan and say there is no way it would work as would anyone else with an IQ over about 85. Seeing as how there is no one in this admin who does not have at least a bachelors degree, how is it possible that anyone even let this “plan” get off the drawing board, let alone put it into practice, unless the real goal was something completely different and the stated plan was just a cover story? When it starts to be analyzed just a little bit the cover story simply is not credible.

#60 I usually don’t bother discussing conspiracy theories unless they include some form of extraterrestrial component. But since you’re such a nice guy…
Applying Occam’s Razor, it is far more likely that F&F, as well as it’s similar predecessor program, are just two more boneheaded policies that utterly failed in their stated goals of arresting leaders of the factions of the violent black market that this country’s boneheaded drug policies created in the first place.
Your conspiracy theory breaks down in at least a couple of places. Chiefly, If a likely and predictable outcome of such an operation is to build popular support for increased gun regulation, where is the legislation that you predict? Where is the public support for it? The F&F fiasco hasn’t swayed opinions on gun control at all.
Occam’s Razor also suggests that both sides are using F&F for their own political benefit, or as Rachel Maddow titled her 18 minute segment on the matter:What your uncle who watches Fox News all day is all worked up about.
The segment included quotes from several republican congress critters, a couple of Fox News mouthpieces, and the president of the NRA. When I saw it this morning I thought she was just trying to build another left-wing strawman.
Given your views on the matter, I guess I should take her more seriously. -
Oh, well, if Rachael Maddow sez it ain’t so then it’s settled science! Lesbians don’t lie.

Here comes the next chance for SCOTUS to repair the damage that’s been done by the Democrat Party letting the extremists in thier party take over the country.
If the U.S. Supreme Court throws out President Obama’s healthcare law this month, the only other remaining major achievement from the president’s first term would be, arguably, the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.
But that may be in jeopardy, too.
A Texas community bank is today filing a challenge to Dodd-Frank, arguing that aspects of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Financial Stability Oversight Council violate the U.S. Constitution’s separation of powers. Here is the press release:

The F and F strategy was so hopelessly flawed from its inception there was 0 chance of it working. The reason it failed to produce the desired legislation is because the whistle got blown too early and the crime did not spike as predicted; the cover was blown too soon.
You used the word “conspiracy” which I did not use nor imply, what I was describing was a long term goal of the lefty Ds and that is gun control/confiscation. The lefty Ds have been trying gun control in one form or another since I became aware in the 1970s. There has been some success in getting GC in some localities, like DC, Chicago and a few others and predictably gun crime skyrockets in those places. In areas like Texas, after concealed carry laws were passed, gun crimes actually went down. -

Bobby, you’ve written some ridiculous and absurd things on this blog and LST, but this is really below even your usual low threshold.
I don’t know what Bonecrusher knows or doesn’t know about the Fast & Furious project, but it is abundantly clear you are completely ignorant of even basic factual evidence. Your attempt to trivialize the scandal by invoking Rachel Maddow as a source doesn’t even reach the level of pathetic.
Fast and Furious covers a period of 2 years, involves over 140,000 documents and numerous ATF, FBI, DEA, White House and DOJ officials. It is not some politically generated lawfare scandal. People were murdered because of the actions of the players involved. Legal, law-abiding gun dealers were falsely accused and harrassed in media reports.
Now, if you insist on appearing as an insipid, jejune half-wit, then by all means wallow in your ignorance, but don’t complain you weren’t forewarned of the consequences.

I voted against him in the primary (Barbara Carlson) but apparently the unwashed masses just voted for him ’cause he’s the incumbent.
Yup, so did I, I donated $$ to Olson’s first run, (primary and general) but when he voted for the “Bail-Out” I sent him a letter and ‘splained to him that I’d do my best to get him fired. He sent me a long “form letter” telling me why I was stupid and he did the right thing. It’s a shame that all the Tea Partiers didn’t show up for the primary. 🙁

Limbaugh predicted very early in this admin, that when the veil was finally lifted and We The People realized what this bunch was really up to and rightly rejected it, (which we have and are rejecting now) that they would start to get desperate and make really glaring errors. The consistent lying (NYT, Carney, and various other leftys) about how this started during the Bush admin is not fooling anyone except those who are immune to the truth and information. It is apparent to me that they are starting to panic and get desperate, the real question is: just how far up the D @$$ will the R boot be?

Texpat, I admire your vocabulary, but if you insist on appearing as hopelessly nonobjective pompous partisan windbag you should consider writing for Hot Air.
Why don’t you use your intellect and writing skill to tell everyone about the number of dead people attributed to F&F versus the total number of dead people resulting from 20+ years of the U.S. government funding and legally supplying the corrupt Mexican government with firepower to fight our war on drugs? Oh, and if you can muster the honesty, please do say whether or not you agree with the conspiracy theory that Operation F&F was intended to cause support for increased gun regulation. I dare you.
If anyone cares to review yesterday’s banter on the topic (of which I was not a player) you might notice that it supports my point that both parties are making political hay while the sun shines. Curious, and already equipped with the right-wing take on the matter, I availed myself to several other perspectives. In addition to Maddow’s straw man, I read articles at Reason.com and NRO.
Both made sense. Both support my point. And the best Hamous can do is crack a lame lesbian joke. I expect better from the always dapper, sometimes correct Texpat. -

#79 Bonecrusher, your definition is accurate in terms of the crime of conspiracy, and I agree that F&F was just as illegal as selling arms to Iran. However, what you presented earlier today was a conspiracy theory, more similar to those espoused by birthers, troofers, and people who insist that the U.S. government has/had an extraterrestrial spacecraft stored at Area 51, or that the moon landing was faked.

OK, just so everyone knows that ole Dave is not full of bovine excrement;
NRA: We’ll sue over new reporting rule for multiple gun buys. The National Rifle Association is vowing to sue the Obama administration after it announced Monday that it will begin to require gun dealers in four border states to send reports to the government following multiple sales of some semi-automatic long arms.
“They don’t have the statutory authority to do it and we’ll file a lawsuit as soon as the first letters are sent” demanding the sales information from dealers, NRA legislative director Chris Cox told POLITICO on Monday afternoon.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms announced in December that it planned to implement the rule on an emergency basis beginning in January in order to reduce the flow of assault weapons across the border into Mexico. However, the Office of Management and Budget rejected the emergency “information collection” and told ATF to proceed with a full, formal process and public comment period. The final proposed rule was made public on April 29.

There is no doubt the primary reason for the Fast & Furious clusterf**k was to try and generate public resentment against legal gun sales, particularly along border states. This is not my analysis. The facts are there for those with enough wits to comprehend them.

There is no doubt the primary reason for the Fast & Furious clusterf**k was to try and generate public resentment against legal gun sales, particularly along border states.
Just idle curiosity: I wonder what bobo thinks the F & F stalling/coverup/Obammy-Executive-Privilege flap has been all about?

#80 For satire to be amusing, it helps to have at least some connection to the topic (not to mention reality.) But keep trying! You and Wagonburner came close to spoof-worthy with your totally fact lacking, bigoted stereotyping yesterday.
Now I know why yours isn’t funny – no connection to anything, let alone reality.
What did I say that was “totally fact lacking, bigoted stereotyping”. I wanna be able to repeat that.

It was just a ruse concocted by subversive anti-authoritarian Republicans to provide the SuperButch Maddow with new material.
Honestly, Bob42 prattles on about conspiracy theorists and then it becomes, oh, reductio ad absurdum infinitum.

Don’t the dopes even have a hint of a glimmer of a clue that the republic itself is endangered by these Chicago thugs & their “shenanigans”?

#76 Bob:
Why don’t you use your intellect and writing skill to tell everyone about the number of dead people attributed to F&F versus the total number of dead people resulting from 20+ years of the U.S. government funding and legally supplying the corrupt Mexican government with firepower to fight our war on drugs?
First, it’s an irrelevant comparison.
Second, if an ally asks for assistance, why should we not supply it? Obviously, if they are asking for assistance, it’s not just “our” war, it seems to be theirs also.Oh, and if you can muster the honesty, please do say whether or not you agree with the conspiracy theory that Operation F&F was intended to cause support for increased gun regulation. I dare you.
Any coherent review of the available facts – including the fact that the ATF has already implemented said regulations – would show it to be something more than just a theory.
If anyone cares to review yesterday’s banter on the topic (of which I was not a player) you might notice that it supports my point that both parties are making political hay while the sun shines.
The Democrats, specifically Obama’s Justice Department, thought this one up all by themselves. They dug the hole that they are now desperately trying to crawl out of. Republicans are simply trying to make sure that the boil gets lanced.
Honestly Bob, you’re sounding more and more like Shamaal every day.
(BTW – that’s not a complement! :)) -

Good LUCK with that one Darren – you just fed Bob an incredible ‘straight line’
Since bob once posted that Mexico’s decision to decriminalize pot possession and that their move to do so made their laws more rational than that of the US I have always thought it ironic that bob points to a country whose drug wars have killed thousands in open war as a “more rational” country than ours.

Frankly, Bob42 can’t hold a candle to Shamaal. Bobby is a fraud and Shamaal has never, ever misrepresented who he is or what he believes. You may reject out of hand his positions, but Shamaal is no carnival sideshow charlatan like Bobby clearly is.
Shamaal may be nuts although he’s perfectly honest about it.

But according to Dan Savage, an ardent Obama supporter, these gay Republicans are “f*ggots.” This morning, he tweeted, “The GOP’s house faggots grab their ankles, right on cue … Pathetic.” (See video below)
I gotta do some research n’ all to confirm this I think Dan Savage is a right winged Christian social conservative. Afterall they seek to hurt the gays physically and financially [and verbally].

#93 I appreciate your honesty, but I question your facts.
There is no doubt the primary reason for the Fast & Furious clusterf**k was to try and generate public resentment against legal gun sales, particularly along border states.
So where is the increase in public resentment that is the basis for your conspiracy theory?

Just idle curiosity: I wonder what bobo thinks the F & F stalling/coverup/Obammy-Executive-Privilege flap has been all about?
Defeating him in November is a big part of it, as evidenced by Wednesday’s discussion being centered not on the inappropriate use of executive privilege (we agree there) but postulating various theories about how and why his use of it will be the final nail in his reelection coffin. The dems raised a similar stink over Bush’s use of EP, and for the same basic reason–political advantage.
Seriously, I get that folks here dislike Obama. But if Obama endorsed oxygen, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you stopped breathing in protest.

#101 Wagonburner, I don’t write the stuff to amuse people like you. Write some satire, get a few thousand reads, and then you might have a point. And btw, every article I’ve done was inspired by the real antics of prominent public figures.
Now I know why yours isn’t funny – no connection to anything, let alone reality.
What did I say that was “totally fact lacking, bigoted stereotyping”. I wanna be able to repeat that.
Zero facts, pure stereotyping:
Given the number of people in this country who live in their mama’s basement & smoke weed all day and the number receiving direct Federal assistance, the idea is not so easily dismissed.
Insanely parroted by the fact lacking Hamous:
Much, much less than we would spend taking care of all the jelly-headed slackers for the rest of their lives.
Willful ignorance of the close connection between the drug war, and increased use of SWAT, and deterioration of 4th Amendment rights:
Completely separate issue and has no relevance in a discussion about legalizing drugs.
