*Sha-Na-Na memory test* – he MIGHT remember a fellow high schooler that had a bad motorcycle wreck and after a multi year medical battle lost much of one leg above the knee (Chip was his nickname) – he got a job at home doing industrial illustrations with air brush and using only shades of blue & brown could create the types of detail displayed above – from the shine of chrome to dark shadow

Commerce Secretary John Bryson, accused of hit-and-run, takes medical leave
By Ed O’Keefe and David A. Fahrenthold, Published: June 11Commerce Secretary John Bryson said Monday night that he is taking an indefinite leave of absence to deal with health problems, after officials said the Cabinet member had a seizure while driving Saturday and was involved in three traffic collisions.
Bryson’s leave was announced after 10 p.m. Monday. It followed a day of confusion about his medical condition and about the crashes that led to Bryson being cited for felony hit-and-run in California. In a memo released to reporters, Bryson said his leave would last “during the period of my illness.”
“I notified President Obama this evening that effective immediately I am taking a medical leave of absence so I can focus all of my attention on resolving the health issues that arose over the weekend,” Bryson wrote. He said his second in command, Rebecca Blank, would be the acting secretary in his absence. Blank has already served in that capacity, filling in after former secretary Gary Locke left to be ambassador to China.
Bryson did not say more about the nature of his health issues. Neither did the White House, which said that “President Obama’s thoughts are with Secretary Bryson and his family during this time.”

I heard it said they made the original ban because reporters “snuck” out their reports before the official “release time” and they wanted to stop that from happening. However, I heard not a whisper about the first and fourth amendment.
If the press was cheating, don’t censor them, just stop giving them advance copy, that would have been legal.

Indiana First State to Allow Citizens to Shoot Law Enforcement Officers
Monday, June 11, 2012Police officers in Indiana are upset over a new law allowing residents to use deadly force against public servants, including law enforcement officers, who unlawfully enter their homes. It was signed by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels in March.
The first of its kind in the United States, the law was adopted after the state Supreme Court went too far in one of its rulings last year, according to supporters. The case in question involved a man who assaulted an officer during a domestic violence call. The court ruled that there was “no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers.”

No I come from the poor side of the tracks. Chip is my cousin’s husband, not seen them in a couple of years. He’s had a rough life, glad he has found something.
When we were teenagers, we spent many an evenin’ hanging out in his Memorial City Hospital room. I’ll have to pass on to him that I know you, small world.

When the bulk of people realize the fraud that was perpetuated by the manbearpigcrazedsexpoodle Al Gore, they will seek to nail his ever expanding hide to the barn.

Somebody updated the theme a while back, which broke the mods I made to allow the proletariat to use the extra html tags. I haven’t had time to go back and fix it. Sorry, but it’s not real high on my priority list at the moment. I want to update the entire theme. Since we’re going on two years for this theme it’s getting a little long-in-the-tooth.

Good morning Hamsters.
Smothering 78 this morning at 5:30 that only redeemed itself with a light breeze gaining strength around 8:30. This feels too much like August already. 🙁The paintings are spectacular art. Can’t think of a better description.

My #86 reference from yesterday was addressed on FoxNews this morning. Texas Justice.
I am amazed that there is anyone even asking the question as to whether or not the man should be charged with murder after he stopped the attack in progress . . . . . He beat the child rapist to death with his bare hands. I say give him a medal. -

These idiots are just way too out of control. And I wish they would quit calling them lawmakers, they are supposed to be representitives. We have enough laws already.
Lawmakers are working to block an unprecedented power grab by the Environmental Protection Agency to use the Clean Water Act (CWA) and control land alongside ditches, gullies and other ephemeral spots by claiming the sources are part of navigable waterways.

Michelle Malkin has a great column that I have not yet been able to finish about the “shafting” of the non-union Delphi employees. They lost their pension, even though they worked side by side with union members who did not lose their pensions. There were real dirty, politically motivated dealings with the whole GM, Chrysler bailouts. 90+% of the dealerships that were closed were R donors, regardless of profitability.

The Huns at the EPA long ago threw away the legal definintion of navigable waterway so they could grab authority over transient puddles cum wetlands. Navigable means can at least float a canoe. Wetlands are supposed to adjoin/connect with the navigable waterway, not be miles from one.Remember the hoo-rah about finishing the widening of Highway 6 between Missouri City and 288 and the roadblock (snarky pun intended) thrown in the way by the greenies whining about a puddle that once slaked the thirst of one weed said to be endangered?
Highway 6 widening was completed on either side of the holy territory; as an evacuation route out of Galveston it took a backseat to the supposed environmental damage. After much wrangling, 6 was finally completed.Gut the EPA in 2013.

Country Singer Carrie Underwood Cites Her Christian Faith in Gay Marriage Endorsement
🙁
Singer Carrie Underwood is making headlines after coming out in support of same-sex marriage. The country and pop singer, who was raised a Baptist, announced her support for gay nuptials during an interview with Britain’s The Independent. Underwood told the publication that she believes everyone deserves to love whomever he or she chooses, citing her faith as the basis for her reasoning.
“As a married person myself, I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry somebody I love, and want to marry,” the singer told the outlet. “I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.”
Underwood also told the publication that she and her husband, pro-hocker player Mike Fisher, attend a “gay-friendly” non-denominational church. The songstress went on to say that God wants Christians to love others
“It’s not about setting rules, or [saying], ‘Everyone has to be like me.’ No. We’re all different. That’s what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It’s not up to me to judge anybody,” she added.

I won’t make a jugement as to her understanding of “THE WORD”, nor of her Christianity, but I do not think you can say she doesn’t have a firm understanding of the foundation of Christ’s teachings ad of the importance in serving Him. I think she knows enough to know that same sex marriage is not biblical, nor has it ver bee an acceptable part of mainstream Christianity. Did you note that her husband attended a “gay-friendly church”? To this day i do not know what that means other than a church which openly promotes homosexuality.

#45 Darren, I think these religious people are “standing out in a good way” by thinking for themselves and speaking out for the inherent right of every human being to be treated equally under the laws of this country (ymmv, of course.)
Parade Grand Marshal Dustin Lance Black tweeted afterward, the Tribune said: “In tears. Over 300 straight, active Mormons showed up to march with me at the Utah Pride parade in support of LGBT people.”
The number of Mormons participating to show support surprised organizers of Mormons Building Bridges. Based on the Facebook event set up for the march, they had anticipated 100 marchers.

Even if you could prove that your particular religion’s interpretations are impeccably factual and exclusively correct, you STILL would not have a valid excuse to impose them on others via force of government.

You are just as narrow minded, perhaps even more so in this regard. Those (mostly) who actually put stock in The Bible, and look there for the non-partisan, neutral definitions of morality can clearly see that homosexuality is sinful and not to be condoned in any way. You are openly advocating that 6000+ years of basic understanding need to be set aside so that less than 2% of the population can feel good about themselves for their deviancy. Any benefit that marriage bestows on a man and a woman are available to homosexuals with the simple execution of a document. If that burden is too high or onerous or oppressive or whatever, the real issue is not the benefits, the foundational issue is revealed to be the acceptance of deviancy and that is not going to happen.
narrow minded authoritarian extremism suggests.
Now who is calling whom silly names. You are in the extreme minority in your view on this issue and it is you and your side who demand, by force of authoritarian extremist government, that those who believe in the Bible put aside their understanding and faith to accommodate deviancy. Just who is pushing whom around?

#58 That was cute, Hamous. If your tribe wants to promote their flavor of theocracy, they’d be better of by cleaning own house first. They seem to be trying, but is it really working?
The battle for same-sex marriage has been fought largely at the state level, and of the nine states that have or have had same-sex marriage rights (same-sex marriage laws in Maine and California were repealed), six were adopted through the legislative process. Five of those six laws were signed by Catholic governors: John Baldacci in Maine; John Lynch in New Hampshire; Andrew Cuomo in New York; Chris Gregoire in Washington; and Martin O’Malley in Maryland (Vermont’s legislature overrode the veto of Gov. Jim Douglas, a member of the United Church of Christ). Some of these governors faced harsh opposition from local Catholic bishops and lobbying groups, but O’Malley and Gregoire both said explicitly that they were motivated by their Catholic faith to support marriage equality.

Catholic sisters, the beleaguered women who historically have run the social justice institutions that have served so many Catholics and non-Catholics alike, have quietly supported gays and lesbians for decades, perhaps leading to a recent crackdown by church officials. Even if not challenging bishops, these women so often act as the pastoral face of the church, offering much needed pastoral support to those on the front lines of this culture war.On the other hand, maybe your Church was right and Coppernicus was wrong.

#60 Bonecrusher, I call ‘um like I see ‘um. Your literal view of your Scriptures is extreme, promoted as exclusively correct, and in fact, is a minority view on the fringe tip of the religious right wing of the political bird.
…can clearly see that homosexuality is sinful and not to be condoned in any way.
The same can be said of many things, including bacon wrapped shrimp. Do you support government prohibition of them? If not, then by your own Biblical standards, calling you a hypocrite would be accurate. I’ll stop short of that and simply ask what motivates you to cherry-pick your own beliefs to such a ridiculous degree.

Practicing homosexuality was not even the discussion, changing the foundation of marriage, 1 man – 1 woman, is or was the discussion. Classic ploy of one who has no foundation.

#67 Hamous, what strawman? The fact of the matter is that you, Bonecrusher, Darren, and your respective chosen dogmas quite purposefully cherry-pick a (conveniently politically significant) “abomination” named in your Scriptures, from among many others, and choose to empower everyone’s government to needlessly discriminate against a minority as a result.
Heliocentrism was, in fact, a minority opinion initially deemed to be criminal heresy by various governments that were dominated by various religions. My comparison to the contemporary political/religious based authoritarianism is therefore relevant.

1. I have not and will not vote for Obama. That is a fact.
2. It’s a “Tolerance” sticker, it’s on my 1995 F-150, and I don’t consider myself anyone’s “target.” That would be irrational and a little paranoid, sort of like the religious right wing republicans.
3. As a result of logic and reason, I absolutely do not believe in the FSM, nor to I believe in your notion of a GOD. Both are highly improbable.I coexist with my cat just fine, even though he is a strong deist in regard to his chosen god. But at least he knows the difference between his religion and everyone’s government. I’m not that sure about you. Neither is my cat.

I was raised in an Episcopal (extended) family, sang in the choir as I offered the same exposure/education to my kids, married into a very Catholic family (20+ years) and have read the KJV and NIV cover to cover.
So, what’s your point? Oh, yeah, I remember now… you say that I know “nothing.”

My two cents (and I can’t stay long – I have somewhere to be tonight and I still have to cook dinner, etc.):
Questions we need to ask re homosexual “marriages”:
1) What is the purpose of a marriage?
2) What is the basis of a family?
3) How are our bodies designed?
If a marriage is just a way of defining a couple, then Bobo might have a glimmer of hope. However, most societies use marriages as a basis of building a family. Until recently, when certain welfare laws and the resulting decline of society have changed that, but let’s assume that most people desire a long lasting, meaningful relationship on which to build their future.
Most couples, and the societal structure depends upon majorities to determine their culture, want families. They want children. Children are the basis of the future of those societies. Those couples who do not want or cannot have are a small percentage of the population, and it has never made sense to generate laws for the entire population based upon a minority. I believe that would lead to chaos, as every individual could then argue for a specific law and the value of having laws would be abrogated, and as each individual refused to live under the laws destined for another, anarchy would result.
Although different civilizations had different versions of marital relationships, such as one man-one woman or one man-many women (women were never dumb enough, as far as I know, to want more than one man), the value of a man-woman relationship was never in dispute. Only through the sexual activity of the two sexes can the species and the civilization survive. If the species does not survive, well, civilizations don’t either. Homosexual activity does not foster the continuation of the species, even though, in this day and age, we have all sorts of magical science that can make it possible. Note, however, that there still (for now) must be a male-female combination involved.
Therefore, our current understanding of marital relationships is one man-one woman. To define it any other way is to allow the camel’s nose under the tent. To define it any other way opens the door for each individual “marriage wannabes” to argue for their right to be recognized as married. If the perpetuation of the species and the civilization is not the purpose of marriage, then where does that slippery slope of defining marriage take us? And how does society begin to redefine itself? And if children are not the main focus of recognized marital units, where does that take us? Even if couples are not able to have children, being in a man-woman relationship leaves that possibility open to God’s will in their lives. A homosexual couple will never have the option.
God designed our bodies a certain way. They are designed so that a man and a woman come together (hopefully in a committed, loving relationship) to share in his gift of procreation. When we, as humans, tinker with that beautiful gift that he gave us, then we play God ourselves. That is a dangerous thing. Not all lives are meant to be blissful from cradle to grave. The crosses we bear are our opportunities to shine for others, to give us empathy, and to open the doors of grace, should we ask them to be opened for us. I had a friend and confidant in our parish, who shared with me his closet homosexual nature. I kept his secret for him, and he shared some of his struggles with me. But he had a belief in God, and lived his life according to God’s will. It wasn’t easy, but he turned his energies into liturgy and music. He found a way to serve God, even if he couldn’t happily marry.
Sex is not a requirement for living. There are people who dedicate their lives to God and forego that experience all over the world. Some don’t have sex because they are lonely and can’t find anyone. Perhaps they suffer a mental disorder. If sex was a requirement for living, then we’d have to bury an awful lot of people. Lack of sex may be a struggle for some, but it’s not life-threatening.
This is why God condoned heterosexual relationships. Even though families may take different forms for various reasons, e.g., single mothers whose husbands have been killed, blended families, etc., they all root themselves, somewhere, somehow, in a male-female relationship.
And as I say, we all have our crosses to bear – some we are born with , some we give birth to, and others we marry. How we carry those crosses tells people a lot about what kind of people we are.

Apropos of your link.
Thomas Lifson, founder of American Thinker, writes of The Clintons’ Covert War on Obama.
So friendless are the Obamas that they can’t even get a decent, reliable surrogate out on the stump, and are reduced to ineffective third-raters like David Axelrod, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Joe Biden.
I suspect that the Clintons and their allies are spreading the word that smart people are planning for life after Obama, that he is going nowhere, that there will be a reckoning. And that now is the time to distance oneself from what promises to destroy the party if not stopped. Perhaps the time has come to figure out some way to get Obama off the ticket. Somehow.

There is a symmetrical and ironic justice to this that keeps me chuckling. Other conservatively minded Jews are certainly doing the same.
The president is the choice of 64 percent of Jewish registered voters, versus 29 percent for Romney. But that equates to a 10-point drop for Obama among Jewish voters from November 2008, and a six-point pick up for Republicans. And while some of that can be explained by Obama’s slipping numbers across all demographics, the rate at which Jewish voters are defecting from the Obama campaign — and signaling support for Romney — exceeds national averages.
and the kicker…
That enthusiasm is greater than that of Mormon voters, only 77 percent of whom said they would definitely vote in the fall. But Mitt Romney, himself a Mormon, holds a commanding lead among those of the faith. Some 84 percent of Mormon voters said they would support Romney in the fall, versus just 13 percent for Obama. While Mormons are already mostly conservative — three quarters of Mormons voted for John McCain in 2008 — that still demonstrates a significant bump in favor of Romney.
“Romney’s current 84 percent share of the Mormon vote is thus nine points better than McCain’s, and five points better than the average shift from McCain to Romney among all registered voters,” Jones said.
Roughly two percent of Americans identify their religious faith as Mormon, and another two percent claim to be Jewish.
Mormons and Leftwing Jews – they cancel each other out.

Roughly two percent of Americans identify their religious faith as Mormon, and another two percent claim to be Jewish.Mormons and Leftwing Jews – they cancel each other out.

#117 Timbo: Your job is to drink beer and keep him from screwing up. I had a neighbor (now deceased) whom I would bribe with beer to show me how to do things on my truck. The deal was that I would feed him beer and he would tell me how to do the task, he wound up doing most of it because he just could not keep his hands off the tools. He helped me replace hardwood floors in my house and I had to really get on him that I was labor and he was management. I really miss that guy.

We were driving out of our driveway the other day. A couple of the neighbor kids were sweating over lawn mowing, etc.
The dad was hanging out with a cold beer in his hand. We stopped to give him some grief. He said, “I can’t tell you how long I’ve wanted to do this.” 😆

I suspect the wimmens here are doomed. The LCWR will be phased out and the CMSWR will pick up where they left off.
Of more interest IMO is the Catholic Online’s reporting. While factual regarding the LCWR, they can’t resist taking a swipe at Catholic Reporter. Those guys have been under latae sententiae excommunication since 1968.
The Holy See has acted pastorally, out of Christian love, and in keeping with its proper role to guard the deposit of faith. The National Catholic Reporter’s biased and inaccurate reporting concerning this entire matter has contributed to the secular Medias feeding frenzy and thereby contributed to placing the leaders of the Catholic Church in a bad light. That is not responsible Catholic journalism.

Now that’s a lot more interesting.
I suspect there are a lot of people in his situation. If I understand many of the opinions expressed here, even if he is married with children and loves his partner; he would still be considered the spawn of Satan and drummed out of many churches.
Luckily this is America and the Framers intended that Federal Government not favor one religion’s philosophy over another.

I won’t get into the boring details of the research here, but basically when sex is done right, at its deepest level it is about intimacy. It is about one human being connecting with another human being they love. It is a beautiful physical manifestation of two people being connected in a truly vulnerable, intimate manner because they love each other profoundly. It is bodies connecting and souls connecting. It is beautiful and rich and fulfilling and spiritual and amazing. Many people never get to this point in their sex lives because it requires incredible communication, trust, vulnerability, and connection.
Guy sounds like Ms tedtam. Maybe he’s a closet Catholic also. 😉

90% of Chicago teachers vote to strike.
Teachers in the nation’s third-largest school district voted overwhelmingly to authorize the first strike in 25 years if their union and the city cannot reach a deal on a contract this summer — signaling just how badly the relationship between teachers and Chicago school officials has deteriorated, union officials said Monday.

I love it. It should be 100%. Let them strike right through November.
Further evidence of the dysfunctional Rahm/Barack regime.

A stellar link there. Thank you for sharing that here. Here was my reply made on 6/13/12 @ around 1:40 AM:
This is truly a superb post and the article Josh Weed wrote (contributed by Lolly his wife). It touches on a sensative issue and I think Weed truly gives remarkable insights into the struggles of same sex attraction as well as acknowledge that what they do with their attraction is always a choice. Weed also gives light to the great joy in making a choice that is in accordance with God. He also does a outstanding job in representing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints and its view of homosexuality. President Gordon B. Hinkley of the LDS Church stated the following:
“People inquire about our position on those who consider themselves so-called gays and lesbians. My response is that we love them as sons and daughters of God. They may have certain inclinations which are powerful and which may be difficult to control. Most people have inclinations of one kind or another at various times. If they do not act upon these inclinations, then they can go forward as do all other members of the Church. If they violate the law of chastity and the moral standards of the Church, then they are subject to the discipline of the Church, just as others are” (Gordon B. Hinckley, Ensign , Nov. 1998, 71).”

I think Josh Weed’s article very much reflects this position though with the noted adsence of there being any violation os the law of chasity and of LDS disciplinary counsels held for violators which are held for those who break the law of chasity. However, i simply think this was not Josh’s interest to address, only the love the homosexual as being imperative in doing good to them as a Christian. Even in the LDS culture, they are to love the sinners, period for the LDS believe that “we are all beggers” before God.
While I deem the article as legitimate there is a skeptical part of me which wonders if Josh Weed is completely forthright with hs life or fiegning a bit in order to reach out homosexuals. I want to stress that overall I do believe Weed’s words but I would like to see more of him and it does appear he is willing at this point in his life to go public in bigger ways to tell this story which again I really enjoyed reading.
One big curiosity I have is if Josh Weed did go on a mission? If so, where and when? More to the pont though is how he overcame temptation in living with at least one other male, working daily wit that male and perhaps having around 3-6 other males in his apratement / residence for two years. I know had I served my mission (Recife, Brazil 1990 – 1992) and lived with several young women that temptation would be insurmountable to not heed. Having placed the power of his own sexual same sex attraction at par with heterosexual attraction, how did he avoid the temptations?
By the same token, I can very much understand that Josh Weed chose not to serve an LDS mission as to avoid this temptation altogether.
The full link found around the middle f my post is the following: http://www.lds.org/study/topics/homosexuality?lang=eng&query=homosexuality
I really liked the person posted under my post from Mike Barker:
Every faithfully married man has sexual attractions to persons who are not his wife. For heterosexual men, these attractions are towards women who are not his wife. For Josh Weed, these attractions are to men who are not his wife.
The faithful man, like Josh Weed, somehow overcomes his desire to have sex with persons who are not his wife. Josh Weed is doing nothing that millions of faithful, God-following men already do.
Blessings to you Josh Weed.
