Victor Davis Hanson talks of American Groupspeak:
Don’t discuss the deficit. Instead, call borrowing “stimulus.” Trillions are not much different from billions.
…
Keep silent about Social Security and Medicare. If the system is insolvent, it cannot be because we are living longer, retiring earlier, often taking out more than we paid into the pot, abusing disability provisions, or facing an aging and soon-to-be-shrinking population. Instead, rail at fat cats who need to pay more payroll taxes, and at wasteful programs like defense that can be cut to ensure more for the elderly and needy.
…
Most Americans choose to be called “cowards” by Attorney General Eric Holder rather than accept his invitation to talk about race on his terms.
…
Closing the border is a taboo subject. Also taboo is the phrase “illegal alien.” Speak instead about the need for social justice, not the enforcement of mere laws. Illegal aliens broke no real law when enticed northward by greedy employers.
There are many others. When you collectively look at the sheer number of subjects that are now taboo you realize how damaging Obama’s brand of cultural Marxism has been to our national dialogue. We can most likely expect a good tongue-lashing next Wednesday:
We do not quite know how Americans will vote next week, in part because citizens fear to talk openly about their concerns and instead employ groupspeak. We suspect that in the privacy of the voting booth, they may prove angrier and more frustrated than we think.
But why not, when they know that candor and honesty can earn a presidential lecture, a job firing or a lawsuit?
#77 Thanks Tedtam, but your permission is not required. Bob, you have permission to come out of the corner. I’ll come out the corner if/when I learn to express my opinions in a less assertive/provocative manner that does not invite broad brushed scorn from narrow minded self righteous authoritarians. I’ll work on that, but can not guarantee success. I do… Read more »
Introducing ‘The Rent is Too Damn High’ Action Figure
Like rent, providing goods and services is grand.
I was wonderin’.
If he does he does but, ummm, no need to call him out.
Bob, you have permission to come out of the corner.
hater
Bob’s mad cuz everyone called him names even though he feels free to insinuate everybody else is a fool, idiot, narrow-minded gasbag, despotic overlord or fanatical religious zealot for disagreeing with him on even the slightest of moral questions.
Russia.
And they have nukes. Go figger.
Bob’s cat?
TT — Oh yeah, that was the last I remember hearing of him…
Microscopic images are so cool.
Bob42’s probably playing with his instrument. New Fender something-or-other, I think.
No one’s been banned.
I am noticing an absence of Bob42 postings here. Has he been banned? Got married & on his honeymoon? OD’ed on pot?
Handsome Son is on his third day at his new job – waiter at a local restaurant, famous for their large portions. I made Indian Butter Chicken for the first time tonight, and asked him to taste it to see if he liked it. He put his hand over his stomach and shook his head, saying “I’m sick of seeing… Read more »

#29 Oletimer Lin It is still a tradition in Austin County on election night for all the candidates and supporters and the general public to gather in the County Courthouse lobby in Bellville, and outside on the grounds, to wait for the returns as they are posted and updated on a huge chalkboard. Shannon and I spent many nights up… Read more »

I read that very early this morning and shared it with my old LST colleagues. That whole paragraph should go down in literary history. I was laughing out loud. My dog thought I was crazy.
Fuddy-duddy.
🙂
The A&M campus is under a partial lockdown because of a suspected gunman. A “code maroon” 🙄 alert is in effect.
George & Laura are/were scheduled to attend an event there later this evening.
UPDATE: All clear.
No secret, but it is a privilege 😉 Most sites won’t let you embed images stored on their site because it eats up their bandwidth, so it wouldn’t do any good for you to have the privilege anyway. The image above is already on my site. It would be unwise to give all users the ability to upload images to… Read more »
Hmmm, didn’t know we could paste in images in a comment… What’s the trick? Or is it a secret privilege?
Fort Bend County early voting total through Wednesday is 63,201; mail-in ballots received 6,360. Harris County is the one to watch on November 2 because of the voting machine situation and the standby paper ballots. Vote early and help make the paper ballot use unnecessary. Much easier to cheat the count with the paper ones Still not a peep about… Read more »
Yeah, I put them somewhere in between mimes and clowns on the useless scale, tied with The Wiggles.
Heh. With the demise of LST I noticed blog bullies don’t know where to direct their ire anymore, wandering aimlessly around the blogosphere looking for someone to hate on. Reminded me of an old pic:
Now I am awake enough (I hope) to revisit my muddled comment about Carly Fiorina. How could she POSSIBLY be a worse choice than Barbara Boxer?
So my original statement, Sometimes you hold your nose and vote against the worst one, still stands. 8)
I guess that would depend on your particular sense of humor. But me, I don’t find blue people funny… not so much. However, those blue guys that play percussion on everything imaginable are pretty entertaining, although not in a funny way exactly.
/ramble off
But not Ha Ha funny
#29 Oletimer Bravo! I also prefer to vote on the actual election day. This go-round in Harris Co I chickened out due to the uncertainty following the fire that destroyed a lot of the e-slates. I did early voting this morning at the Acres Homes Multi-service Center in NW Houston. They had plenty of e-slates. It was busy but line… Read more »
# SS Wow, excuse me!
I just got up from a nap and am still groggy. Sorry I confused Carly Fiorina with Meg Whitman there.
#12 SS
Your reasoning for not voting for Fiorina omits the fact that Jerry Moonbeam is ever so much worse. Sometimes you hold your nose and vote against the worst one.
#48 please don’t you would look real funny 🙂
Now that would be nice, but not holding my breath.
#46, the funny thing is Obama has nominated both of those that he listed, and to think how the look and feel of the court will be molded by those 2 over the next few years, the nice thing is CJ Roberts is just as young so he should be a nice solid balance for Kagan, and maybe Sotamayor gets… Read more »

During the last century, Ambrose Bierce wrote what has been considered as one of ther best book reviews: “There are entirely too many pages between the bgeginning and the end.” We may have one to top it: ‘Conventional Idiocy’ is a pile of gibberish so unreadable that we must consider the possibility that Rick Sanchez wrote it himself Read more:… Read more »
#41, SD,
I know being one of the first responders here at my office, I get that all the time.
#8 bweldon, I stand corrected, it turned out to be a very informative class and I learned a lot.
It’s just that we take soo many classes and safety functions that I have a hard time keeping up with work.
#37 – you mean the one kinda “hidden” on Franz? It was pretty busy last Saturday
Dude, Simple, et all – THANKS!
*closes checkbook with a slam*
#25 – and it WORKS! (just tested it on my cell#)
Voted Early at the Fry Rd Storefront and there were 10 people in line as I left. none when I got there. They were all waiting for me to make an appearance 🙂
#30, Dude, No but that has been and always will be their cash cow. Why do you think you could get an inkjet printer for $99 because they knew that you would be on the hook for at least $200-400 more in ink before something else newer and better came along that you would buy and start the whole process… Read more »
The early voting this year, at least here in Houston, is important because of the voting machine warehouse fire. If we waited until election day, the lines would be so long some people would prefer not to vote at all.
Old Timer, Thanks for sharing what it was like for you when you first voted. I can not even imagine that with the frenzied, modern lifestyle I keep. My first two votes were via absentee due to the fact I attended college out of state. I eventually found early voting and have never really turned back. My current absentee ballot… Read more »
I figure I have had about an 80% success rate with HP laptops. The first one I ever purchased eventually experienced some sort of power surge that fried it so that it would not turn on. I was able to salvage the hard drive out of it and use it as an external USB drive. I replaced that HP with… Read more »

Does anyone think this is good thing? I for one do, especially if the Republicans come out agressively looking to cutting spending and reducing government involvement (Obamacare) and such.
