I’m not sure whether the dominant personality trait of big-name surfers is crazy, insane, brave, reckless, or stupid. Probably a combination of all those. Witness:
That’s a 78-foot (23.8m) wave (trough to peak). An eight-story building. Made of solid water. That weighs one tonne per cubic meter. Each one-meter slice of that wave weighs around 250 tonnes.
Here’s another dude talking about an epic ride that didn’t turn out as well.
Surf’s up, dude!

I’m not too keen on pigs in the house, but I’m really not keen on HOA’s overstepping their bounds. Good level headed here.
This little piggy can stay at home.
Wilbur, a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig that a Spring homeowner’s association wanted to kick out of a family’s home, doesn’t have to move, a Harris County district court judge ruled Monday.
The Sardo family’s one-and-a-half-year-old pig has been the subject of a lawsuit filed by his family to declare him a “household pet” so he can continue living in their subdivision. The Thicket at Cypresswood Community Improvement Association argued the pig violates its rules which forbids pets that are not “common” and “traditional.”
District court Judge Mike Engelhart ruled evidence is clear that this pig breed is considered a household pet and that they are not used for commercial purposes. He also said the dispute puts a spotlight on homeowner’s associations’ restrictions and residents’ property rights.
“I think we need to forget about his being about a pig for a moment and look at the broader issue of homeowner’s associations and residents,” Engelhart said. “Homeowner’s associations are there, on one hand, to maintain a neighborhood in a particular way, but they also have responsibilities not to infringe too much on homeowner’s use of their land the way they see fit.”

Here’s a cop who’s gonna find out first hand what rape is…..for 75 years he’ll experience it every day.
Ex-Officer Sentenced to 75 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault
By RUSS BUETTNERA former New York City police officer who managed to avoid a rape conviction for a sexual attack on a schoolteacher at gunpoint was nonetheless sentenced on Monday to 75 years to life in prison.
In issuing the sentence, Justice Richard D. Carruthers of State Supreme Court in Manhattan criticized the former officer, Michael Pena, for abandoning his official oath and assaulting the 25-year-old woman “in the most brutal and degrading manner possible.”
Mr. Pena, who turned 28 on Friday, was convicted in March on three counts of predatory sexual assault and related charges. Justice Carruthers declared a mistrial on two rape counts, which unlike the other counts required a finding of penetration, after the jury of eight men and four women said they were at an impasse on those charges.

Obama’s website put up a slide show about a fictional woman named Julia who benefits from his policies throughout her life. They had to edit out the original ending, though.
It showed how Romney would fire her and tie her to the top of the station wagon.

The Pentagon released Osama bin Laden’s home videos. He dyed his hair to hide the grey, smoked pot, slept with three women and liked to watch himself on TV.
The reason they took over a year to take out Bin Laden is the first 8 months they were tailing Jack Nicholson.

For your morning meditation:
1. Picture yourself lying on your tummy on a warm rock that hangs out over a crystal clear stream.
2. Picture yourself with both your hands extended into the cool running water.
3. Birds are sweetly singing in the cool mountain air.
4. No one knows your secret place.
5. You are in total seclusion from that hectic place called the world.
6. The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of serenity.
7. The water is so crystal clear that you can easily make out the face of the person you are holding underwater.

#17 TT: Are ya taking a Mirkwood break or something? Didja get any rain last night?
Yeah, we got some hard ‘n heavy rain last night about 1:00 am. It woke me up, dammit. That clay dirt will be too sticky to dig and run my cart through today. I’d end up one big mudball, stranded in the backyard, on my back and unable to get up.
That, and I think I pulled a little something high up on my back yesterday, just to the right of my spine near my shoulder blade. Not sure what I did, but it’s probably better that I rest it today.
At least I got some dirt spread yesterday, so the rain’ll help it settle. I hear there’s heavier rain coming later in the week, and I’m anxious to see if my efforts reduce the
lakeingponding in the backyard. -

A friend showed me a picture of a quilt last night that was so funny. It was a chicken, squashed, with a tire track across it. Obviously an art piece, not for use. Which spawned a question from me:
Why did the chicken cross the road?

By existing statute North Carolina already prohibits state recognition of same sex marriages and civil unions, yet some there feel it urgently necessary to underscore existing law with a constitutional amendment, which is expected to narrowly pass today.
For others, state sanctioned discrimination doesn’t go nearly far enough to protect North Carolinians from Teh Evul Gay Agenda.
For 300 years, we had laws that would prosecute that lifestyle. We’ve gone down the wrong path. We’ve become so dumb that we have accepted a lie for the truth, and we’ve…discarded the truth on the shoals of shipwreck!

The classic “guns and butter” argument, trying to prove a point by falsely associating to completely unrelated things. The reason for the constitutional amendment is to protect the institution of marriage from the radical, revisionist, shove it down your throat and get right in your face, militant, GOD hating, homo-sexual deviants.
Tell me, if you can, what right is being infringed that can not simply be remedied by a will or durable power of attorney, by this proposed constitutional amendment? What is the functional impediment?
Because of your (lack of) faith or your humorous belief in the FSM, you may not be intellectually equipped to grasp the concept that marriage is of significant spiritual value. Trampling on these kinds of values bring curses instead of blessings. -

As we passed the crowd, a woman who looked to be the same age as my mother shouted after us, “Children are already suffering! Vote for!” Her voice was shrill and angry, and she clearly meant to harm us with her words.

#31 Bones, you acuse me of a logical fallacy while providing no evidence whatsoever to support it, then you go on to lump large groups of people into ideological groups that do not contain them, again without a single shred of evidence in support of your assertion. What you wrote above isn’t even worthy of being classified as a logical fallacy. It a litany of false allegations supported only by myth and political propaganda.
You
suggestinsist that non-theistic people “hate” an entity that they don’t even believe exists. In what world is that even rational? You also see them as a dire threat (again, with no evidence) that merits legislation and government power to “protect” authoritians like you from your own irrational fears.Show me some evidence to support those and other allegations, and we might have an intelligent discussion. I don’t think you can.
FYI, equal treatment under the law can not be secured in any state in the union regardless of how many hoops or how much extra it costs same sex partners to jump through them, thanks to federal law. Feeling safer now?

[By a 2-1 margin] Delegates of the General Conference of the United Methodist Church have voted down two proposals that would divest the denomination’s funds from companies that did business in Israel.
The UMC is only the most recent American Protestant denomination to reject a proposal to divest from Israel. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America voted down divestment proposals in 2007 and 2011, respectively. While Presbyterian Church (USA) would approve divestment at its General Assembly in 2004, the measure was overturned two years later amid controversy.

🙄The comments are barf-inducing. Everyone (but a very few) is stumbling over each other trying to get into the giant group hug and pat the author on the back for her bravery in walking through a veritable gauntlet of People With Signs.
Unless they were holding hands or engaging in some other sort of PDA, the two probably resembled a couple of suburban mommies out to vote while the lines were short. She’s making a mountain out of a molehill by being too thin-skinned and thinking everyone is out to get her.

#38 Bobo420: If there were no hate and antagonism against believers, why would jerk-weasels like the ACLU and Americans (all 3 of them) United for Separation of church and state, insist on suing every time GOD is mentioned, or where they may actually see a bible or a listing of the 10 commandments.
You suggest insist that non-theistic people “hate” an entity that they don’t even believe exists. In what world is that even rational?
I never said that their hateful actions were rational at all; if they do not believe in THE DIETY why do they care if others do and wish to practice and express same?? There must be hate and/or fear for them to feel so compelled to file all these ridiculous law suits which serve only to waste taxpayer dollars. Why are so many atheists (M42 is specifically excepted in this discussion) so horribly offended when they see a cross at a memorial to fallen soldiers, the overwhelming majority of whom are Christians, that they must sue to have it removed?

My late wife insisted on such a bag for our honeymoon.
She got it.
After trying to schlep it through airports on the trip from Houston it ended up in a dumpster in New Hampshire so we wouldn’t have to schlep it back. It was her decision, and she didn’t even have to carry it. I think it was all the comments from the other people who had to move around us and it, especially on the courtesy vans to and from hotels and rental car pick-ups.

Good afternoon Hamsters. Some sprinkles last night and a wonderful 66 at 6 am. Overcast and breezy from the north, welcome front is working its way through, 80 and 39% humidity. Come on rain.
Everyone is watching Indiana’s primary today to see if Jurassic Park’s Lugar gets bumped aside. If so it will be the GOP establishement as well as the Dems in a dither. Methinks there is more this election season to give these folks the vapors. Bring it on.

Everyone is watching Indiana’s primary today to see if Jurassic Park’s Lugar gets bumped aside. If so it will be the GOP establishement as well as the Dems in a dither. Methinks there is more this election season to give these folks the vapors. Bring it on. -
I have schlepped a bag for both tedtam and I all through out Italy for two weeks before. This is one can slip right onto Aggie Beau’s handle of his roller bag not fall off due to a sleeve built in. I think it would be fine. Anyways I am the one who when gets impatient and does not want to wait on him to help me, just lifts up heavy things by myself.

Your weekly dose of schadenfrued is served.
You shouldn’t need anymore for at least month its so good.As I pointed out in my article here on Sunday, no evidence supports this claim. O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford had no Cherokee heritage, was listed as “white” in the Census of 1860, and was most likely half Swedish and half English, Scottish, or German, or some combination thereof. (Note, the actual 1894 marriage license makes no claim of Cherokee ancestry.)
But the most stunning discovery about the life of O.C. Sarah Smith Crawford is that her husband, Ms. Warren’s great-great-great grandfather, was apparently a member of the Tennessee Militia who rounded up Cherokees from their family homes in the Southeastern United States and herded them into government-built stockades in what was then called Ross’s Landing (now Chattanooga), Tennessee—the point of origin for the horrific Trail of Tears, which began in January, 1837.
There is so much irony there you could build a bridge to nowhere with it.

‘Scuse me! I schlepped my own bag, thank you very much. I think you got the additional duffel with the souvenirs for friends and family on the way home, but I insisted on one carry-on bag for the whole two weeks for a reason.
Is this the Vera Bradley you were drooling over? One of my Monday night gal friends said she picked up a VB weekender – all the smaller bags in it, too – for $80 recently. I thought of you.

#63 Tis I am younger and have clearer memory. We did each back one carry on bag. Mine was bigger duffel bag of yours you wanted me to use. You were beginning to over pack, so I volunteered to pack the rest of your things in my bag making it weigh A TON! you felt so bad for my poor wee shoulders you bought that red carry on suit case for me to use instead and then we used the large duffel bag for gifts. But alas I carried your items because I love and care.
Yes it is the Vera Bradley bag I have been drooling over. The one your friend bought was the one that is one smaller than this one: http://www.verabradley.com/product/Category/Travel/Grand-Traveler/1001427/defaultColor/Camellia/pc/638/c/0/sc/646/p/1001427.uts
I want the grand traveler. It will fit more than I will need for the week and I will be able to carry some of Beau’s items even though he is stubborn and insists he needs to check a bag. God forbid his gets lost along the way, I will tell him I told you so as I hand him his one day change of clothes. hehe

Don’t even get me started on Walmart. We have luggage registered at Target which is not bad.
I have just become a big Vera Bradley fan in the past year or so. Everything I have that is Vera Bradley is very durable and the great thing about most of their products, you can clean out and throw in the washing machine. I also like things that are bright and happy so I tend to fall in love with a lot of their patterns.
Aggie Beau indulges me in this fad from time to time because he loves the durability of it and the clean factor, and considering the other high name brand stuff out there, this is nothing compared to those. It doesn’t help that his brother’s fiance also loves the stuff, so we exchange these things at Christmas and birthdays.

I beg to differ on the memory. I remember taking my clothes down to just a few outfits and cramming the travel Scrabble and the 3 companions in the top of my case – but it all fit. I remember telling you that you would have to haul your crap all over Italy and to reduce. We’ll have to discuss this later, as I cannot remember what in the heck I would’ve asked you to carry. Certainly not much, if anything.
But I love you dearly.

Why do you think she made me take the larger duffel bag? And carry more of her things!?!
I also mentioned the baby reference because if Aggie Beau gets so worried about our new puppy, he could fit in there just comfortably. That might actually be my selling point.

My three “friends” consisted of a couple of small stuffed animals plus one LST bear that I think Headshaker sent to me for the trip. I took pictures of them “seeing” the sites, with the idea that I’d put them into a blog later. I never set up the blog, but I still have pictures of them looking at the Colosseum, etc. I gave the giraffe to Poggioreale descendent whose family was from Australia. She was the cutest little thing! I think the LST bear went to another little girl I met last year, who fell in love with it. Somewhere I think I still have my little “Italy” bear.
My life is not that exciting.

Many of the airlines have started charging for checked bags unless you have a frequent flyer number and I think
ContinentalUnited charges anyway. You might want to find out prior to packing. One airline is charging $100 a bag. -

It costs more than you’re used to seeing, but if anything on it eve breaks or wears out, they’ll repair or replace for free. All you have to do is send it to them or drop off at a local B&R store.
My suitcase has >800,000 miles on it.

One thing I marvel at in my travels is the people with the designer luggage (e.g., Louis Vuitton) who buy these tacky clear plastic covers to protect it. The covers are like what your Aunt Minerva would have on her furniture and carpet to keep the dog pee & cat barf from staining it. The whole thing is like getting a John Edwards $500 haircut and wearing a baseball hat.

AB has used this line before, another thing to consider.
The reason why this luggage nirvana has not been delved into yet is because we made a general rule to tell the other about a purchase of over 75 dollars and this would qualify. So when I did approach AB about it with the recent garage sale money I earned, he pushed me towards concert tickets I have also been wanting instead… hence the dilemma.

Reporters fired dozens of barbed questions and taunts. “Contorted position! . . . Why did you guys send out statements to clarify? . . . What does the word ‘evolving’ mean? . . . Is he not evolved?. . . I want you to dissect the evolution.” A fly buzzed around the lectern. Carney let out a sigh.
NPR’s Mara Liasson asked whether Obama was “too clever by half,” essentially telling voters: “I’m getting ready to change my mind.”
“His views,” Carney maintained, “are crystal clear.”
Chris Geidner from Metro Weekly, a gay publication, pointed out the obvious: “If he’s crystal clear, why is everybody in this room asking you questions?”

On one of our train trips in Italy, we met some people traveling Europe together. The couple across from us were from Australia. It was an extensive trip, I suppose, as their suitcases would put some building footings to shame. I could not even imagine dragging something that big around.
Seriously. Huge. Suitcases.
Like squared off steamer trunks.

House Ds officially declare war against self defense.
House Democrats said Tuesday they will offer an amendment to push to overturn stand-your-ground self-defense laws in states like Florida.
The amendment, which would withhold some grants from states that have such laws, will come as part of the House’s debate on the Commerce Department spending bill.
“‘Shoot-first’ laws have already cost too many lives. In Florida alone, deaths due to self-defense have tripled since the law was enacted. Federal money shouldn’t be spent supporting states with laws that endanger their own people,” said Reps. Raul Grijalva of Arizona and Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the two Democrats who are offering the legislation. “This is no different than withholding transportation funds from states that don’t enforce seat-belt laws.”
Florida’s law, which allows residents to use force in response to an attack without first having to retreat, has come under scrutiny after the nationally-polarizing death of teenager Trayvon Martin. George Zimmermann, a neighborhood watch volunteer, has been charged with murder in the case.
Trayvon was a thug and he got killed while in the process of committing thuggery. The race baiters in the LSM fanned the flames as hard as they could and the less intelligent bought it. When Z finally gets his day in court, he will be found not guilty.

My understanding is that for every $5 spent under the guise of welfare, $4 of that goes to funding the governmental machinery and only $1 actually gets to the recipient.
The Catholic Bishops have their priorities misplaced as Scripture clearly states:
Let he who will not work not eat.
There is a gulf of difference between will not and can not. This is a private, individual function and not a government function. -

Are you a hypochondriac? Then this may be just the book you need.
The following descriptive text is taken from the publisher’s web site:
Hypochondriacs have long had to satisfy their needs for self-diagnosis with medical reference materials written for the masses, but this revolutionary book is dedicated entirely to the hypochondriac’s unique perspective on health. With over 300 deadly diseases profiled, conveniently organized by symptom (real or imagined), even the mildest hypochondriac’s fantasy life will be ignited. We’re all going to die of something—why not choose an ailment that’s rare and hard to pronounce?

It’s Blasphemy, I tell ya! AND I have proof, I’ve been outta’ pocket BUTT I read Mondays thread.
Only pasteurized processed cheese food product is worthy of the name “cheese” in Macaroni and Cheese.
Sarge has a point — I’ve never been able to get “real” cheddar cheese to melt properly for a Mac n Cheese casserole. It ends up lumpy and stringy, not melty.
Mama used Velveeta. I tried to find Velveeta in suitably sized packages for single serving and could not.1) Pasteurized processed cheese, NOT even close to cheese, closer to plastic!
2) Realcheddar cheesesharp cheddar cheese is easy to use in REAL Marconi!
3) Velveeta is WAY worse than #1!! Not sure if it’s plastic or some tasteless play dough! Dang Dammit!OK, ole Dave makes the BEST macaroni and cheese on the planet, nuttin’ special, just old fashioned REAL macaroni. Cook 1 ½ cup of macaroni, shred 2 ½ cups of Kraft Sharp cheddar cheese, set aside, then put about 3 TBS of REAL butter in a sauce pan, add 2 TBS of flour and a pinch of salt. Add 2 cups of milk and cook on low heat stirring constantly. Then dump 2 cups of the cheese into the mix and stir, add ½ chopped onion and 1/4 cup of pimento. Drain the noodles and put them in a 2 Qt casserole dish and pour the cheese/white sauce over it. Pinch off several end pieces of bread and position on top then dump the rest of the cheese on top. Put in the oven @ 350 and cook for about 35-40 minutes, or until the bread browns. I Guaro-ontee you will make folks smile. My bride and both my young-uns loves my Mac-N-Cheese! 😀

Luggage
As someone who many years traveling in planes, trains and automobiles, I know a little something about it.
Do not buy cheap. Don’t buy Walmart like my brother, Shannon.
Do not buy designer luggage at ridiculous prices.
Do buy high quality luggage on sale because if you shop properly, they put it on sale at the end of traveling seasons and you can own a set that will last for many years.
Buy black or dark solid colors. The idea is not to attract attention.
Use 2 or 3 smaller bags rather than one huge bag. You won’t regret it struggling through airports, hotels or train stations. One large bag is a traveling nightmare.
If you are traveling overseas, put nothing on your bags like tags or other things to indicate you are an American. Americans are regarded as wealthy targets and political targets. Don’t tempt the airport personnel.
I own this line of luggage I bought from Macy’s at 70% off on a sale they ran a few years ago. -

Many people put some sort of Canadian-oriented knickknack on their luggage. Nobody can tell the difference, not even Canadians.
To help me find my black suitcase among all the others that look just like it, I leave the gate-check tags on the handle. Once you have 10 or 15 of them, your bag is easy to find. Nobody has messed with it yet – maybe because they figure anyone with that many tags knows better than to have anything more valuable than a pair of shoes in the bag.

Scripture quotation from my #113:
2 Thess 3:10-13
10 For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order:if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.
11 For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread. 13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good.

Out: Elizabeth Warren, Native American. In: Elizabeth Warren, Jacksonian Democrat.
Man, in hindsight it’s a good thing she didn’t attend the annual Harvard Powwow yesterday after all, huh? Awwwk-ward.
As I pointed out in my article here on Sunday, no evidence supports this claim [that her great-great-great grandmother was Cherokee].
This new information about Ms. Warren’s true heritage came as a direct result of a lead provided to me by William Jacobson over at Legal Insurrection, who in turn had received the information from one of his readers. Jacobson, who has questioned Warren’s explanation for her law faculty listing, calls this discovery “the ultimate and cruelest irony” of the Warren Cherokee saga.
DOH!!!
Report: Elizabeth Warren’s ancestor may have … rounded up Cherokee for Trail of Tears

‘Nother stunning turn of events in Wisconsin.
The number of Republian voters is nearly equal to Democrat voters, even though this is a primary and there’s no real contest on the Reublican side. Orignaly projections were that there would be +/- 950,000 Dem votes ast vs +/- 600,000 Pubbies. Currently, about 450,000 of each have voted.

Bobo’s prediction:
…yet some there feel it urgently necessary to underscore existing law with a constitutional amendment, which is expected to narrowly pass today.
The reality of our surroundings:
The Associated Press declared Amendment 1 passed. With 63 percent of precincts reporting, the measure has 61 percent support with 39 percent opposing.
The margin was even greater among black voters.

Yah;
I think we’re talking backlash here. Nearly all precintcs reporting in and the vote count is nearly equal on both sides—620K+. That means the pubbies have already gotten all the votes they were projeted to get, and the Dems are falling about 250K short of what they expected.
Once you consider there was a bit of an “operation chaos” going on with thousands of pubbies voting Dem (for the Labor candidate, no less), June should be lotsa fun.

That’s because it was a special recall primary. Only the Dems were fielding candidates. The regular primary was a month ago.

Not that Barry has a chance in West Virginia this November but this definitely tarnishes the messiah’s luster.

That’s because it was a special recall primary. Only the Dems were fielding candidates. The regular primary was a month ago.
Things are looking so bad for the Dems in Wisconsin that they’ve taken to fighting amongst themselves.
They have even cancelled a “Unity Rally” scheduled for tomorrow.

Wikipedia has scrubbed another article showing the relationship between the imperative “Forward!” and leftwing publications.
You may recall last week when The Blaze reported that a Wikipedia article titled “Forward (Obama-Biden campaign slogan),” which drew a connection between the president’s “Forward” campaign slogan and famous leftwing publications, was slated for removal.
The “controversy” portion of the Wikipedia article read: “The name Forward has been frequently used as a name for influential leftwing newspapers and publications, denoting an urge for progress.”
Apparently, some users felt that the article didn’t meet the high standards set by Wikipedia and it wasn’t long before the article was slated for deletion and removed.
But it looks like Wikipedia has taken it one step further (forward?): the online encyclopedia has also decided to delete another article — this one a year and a half old! — titled “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).”
Gotta protect the President of the United States.

Great Leap Backwards: Why Did Wikipedia Scrub a Year & a Half Old Article Titled ‘Forward (Generic Name of Socialist Publications)’? -
In case anyone else is up
Thought for the Day on the Secret Service Scandal
The Secret Service scandal resulted from a disagreement on how much a prostitute wanted for her services came to light.
She wanted $800.00.
The Secret Service Agent offered $30.00.
How ironic is it that the only person in Washington willing to cut spending gets fired?
