Wednesday Fr. Emil Kapaun Open Comments

Captain (Chaplain, Fr.) Emil Kapaun returned to the arms of his Heavenly Father on May 23, 1951 from what could well be considered hell on Earth – a North Korean PoW camp.

By all accounts, he was an incredibly brave, courageous, humble, generous man who was the personification of a servant of Christ and an example upon which we can all model our lives. These attributes are being recognized in two completely different venues.
The United States Congress has passed a resolution asking Secretary of Defense Panetta and President Obama to award Fr. Kapaun the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions tending his flock both before their capture and in the ensuing months of hardship in the prison camp.
The Holy See has opened an official inquiry into his actions and has conferred upon him the honor Servant of God, the first step toward possible beatification and canonization.

On 2 November 1950, Father Kapaun made the decision that led to his death.
The Korean war chaplain was in the middle of a firefight, with the American forces overrun by Chinese soldiers outside a crossroads town called Unsan in North Korea.
Lighting forest fires to frustrate US reconnaissance planes, the Chinese surrounded the Americans and pressed in, attacking with small arms, grenades and even bayonets.
Meanwhile, Chaplain Emil Kapaun, a Catholic priest from a farming village in Kansas, gathered the wounded in a dug-out shelter made of logs and straw.

Fr. Kapaun is on the right, helping a wounded soldier
Humble beginnings and a humble end provide very fitting bookends to a life very well-lived,

If President Obama awards him the Medal of Honor, he will be just the fifth Catholic priest to win the award – out of 3,458 American soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who have won it.
If he is named a saint, Kapaun will be the first member of the US military so honoured.
“He gave his life for those people that he was serving,” says Father John Hotze, an investigator for the diocese advocating for Kapaun’s canonisation.
“At the time of his death, he was giving his life for his fellow prisoners… and he was that example of Christ present in the world today.”

The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.

I contacted our pest control service that we’ve been using at our river property. We didn’t have the money to pay for the annual treatment, but now that we’ve got a new tenant, I contacted them to see if we could get them to come out and service our property.

Since we didn’t sign back up in January, we were taken off their list. They use some kind of proprietary system, so to get put back on, it will cost us $250 re-signup fee and an additional $400 for something else, so they’ll let us pay $800 instead of $400. I expected an extra fee, but not double the original cost.

I shall be researching other pest control services in the area. $800 may be a great deal, for all I know. It’s a large lot, and there are three four buildings. One is a barn-type shed, and I don’t know if it was treated the last time. Probably was.

Or, we could just play like we’re the government and raise the rents to cover the cost.

If you have any recommendations for good termite treatment companies, please let me know.

I think anything that reduces Obama to the punch line he truly is will be helpful. The dog issue seemed important enough for David Axelrod to make a snarky tweet about how “loving dog owners treat thier pets.”, so it would seem they have some polling data that indicates the issue would have been helpful to them—-IF Obama hadn’t eaten some.

    But we should be kind.

Do you know what Lolo Sotero told young Barak before feeding him his breakfast and sending him off to Islamic school in Indonesia?

“You should be grateful you’re eating dog. Children in America have to eat bacon for breakfast.”

I was going to say that my elderly next door neighbor has been using ABC Pest Pool & Lawn for termite prevention services for the 16 yrs I’ve been here. However the online customer reviews for ABC are very uneven, love ’em or hate ’em.

Me, I examine my exterior foundation in the spring for any sign of termite tunnels. That may not be feasible for a distant rental property. Also of course it is possible for termites to find their way in other than at the foundation/brick ledge boundary. The previous owner of my house had termites get in at one point on the exterior foundation, and that area still has the ugly patched appearance where the concrete was drilled for pesticide injection.

Two more economic indicators over the last 24 hours show at least a slowdown in the US economy — and potentially bad news for Barack Obama’s prospects in the next election. Manufacturing output dropped for the first time in four months, as Reuters reported last night:

On top of that, residential housing starts plummeted 5.8% in March, although permits jumped by over 7%. Most of the decline came in multi-unit housing. Permits, however, sharply declined for private single-unit housing:

    Re: termite treatment

When we bought the house, one of the items of discussion was the general condition of the home (actually a home with an attached garage and workshop). The dirt floor and pole barn workshop was later converted into living quarters, as was the barn on the property. The workshop floor was concrete, poured around the pole-in-dirt structure. It was built in the county, so building codes were not consulted. Obviously. They moved “Grandma” into the workshop site, and some other male relative into the barn conversion.

There were supposed to be three septic tanks, and Hubby could only see two. The one for the barn was pretty obvious, and there was one other tank near the main residence. Finally, Grandma was consulted, and she remembered where the third tank was. Under her living room floor. Right smack dab in the middle of the unit. The floor was jackhammered out, tank filled in, a new tank installed outside of the living quarters, and piping to the tank completed. While we had the floor open, we found that termites had made a rather handsome home for themselves, having direct access to the poles in the dirt and the moisture from the septic tank.

The main residence also has some wood-to-dirt contact. As does the barn. Simply inspecting each year would be useless, not just difficult. We have to assume termites are there or trying to be there.

We just want to make enough money on the property to let the tenants buy the property and build our equity. At some point, we’ll resell the lot or move down there ourselves, possibly building a new structure.

The company is Coast Pest Control. They were really nice and did a great job for us. I just had no idea what the re-up costs would be if they dropped us; we were not warned on the renewal reminder that we got. If I knew, I would have scraped together enough money somewhere to go ahead and let them do their work.

    Live and learn.

This is a fascinating bit of history about influential Mormon efforts to save the Jews in the Holocaust despite Roosevelt’s apathy and his State Department’s conspiracy to conceal the existence or extent of Nazi death camps.

In December 1943, Sen. Thomas played a key role in advancing a Bergson-initiated Congressional resolution calling for creation of a special government agency to rescue Jews from Hitler. At about the same time, aides to Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau, Jr. discovered the State Department was suppressing news about the genocide and obstructing opportunities to rescue Jewish refugees. Armed with this information and with congressional pressure mounting, Morgenthau convinced FDR to preempt Thomas and the other congressional advocates of rescue by unilaterally creating the War Refugee Board.

During the final 15 months of World War II, the board played a major role in saving some 200,000 Jews. Among other things, it helped finance the life-saving work of Raoul Wallenberg. Sen. Thomas’s action in the Senate was an indispensable part of the chain of events that led to Wallenberg’s mission.

I think Florida probably has Mack fatigue at this point.

Mack trivia – most may know he is the great-grandson of baseball legend Connie Mack, owner of the Philadelphia Athletics. Less well-known is that he is the great-grandson of Texas senator Morris Sheppard, “a typical red state republican politician doing anything but tucking his cowardly tail between his legs and running for the hills when asked to state a rational/factual case in favor of continuing to waste money and hurt people”. He authored the 18th Amendment. Oh wait, he was a Democrat.

Such social FEAR is only really sustainable when good times are rolling. If money, and the things it brings comes in, people will put up with it. If not, they won’t. FEAR eventually turns into even more FEAR. The White students are not convinced of the holy goodness of all Black people. Merely reacting in FEAR to a physical threat backed up by a social system that takes the side of the aggressor and punishes them. That is not a healthy way to build society.

Long term, Obama and company want riots and violence and cities burning. This he thinks will win him votes, as this has been successful in Chicago for decades. Pay to make the mob go away. Again, with Whites in place, stuck, that just guarantees a fight. Probably as an ultimate back-up plan, Obama wants violence so he can if he loses the election, institute Martial Law and rule by decree. His recent executive order allowing him to seize basically anything including newspapers, radio, TV, and the internet is part of that ultimate back-up plan.

My experience with ABC was not good, after signing up with them they did their inspection with Mrs. Shamaal, claimed I was termite free, signed a contract and charged me $800 for a year’s treatment service. I pointed out that yes I did have termites, showed them where and they charged me a discount of $100 to treat them, even though the $800 was to include 10 feet of treatment (I only needed 8 feet). To top it off, literally the day after they left I discovered that honeybees had moved into a first floor eave and bees were not covered in the contract.
We ended up with them because Mrs. Shamaal’s phone calls to Terminex and another company were not returned.
I hold no animosity against them, but I don’t believe that termites are their specialty.

    Ruh Roh,

Last week it was 60 prominent Roman Catholic types objecting to the Republican budget, last month it was the Bishops, and this week the Bishops are whacking them again.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is criticizing the House Republican budget authored by Rep. Paul Ryan for cutting food stamps and other assistance programs for the poor.
In a letter sent to the House Agriculture Committee on Monday, the bishops say the budget fails to meet certain “moral criteria” by disproportionately cutting programs that “serve poor and vulnerable people.” …
A second letter sent Tuesday to the Ways and Means Committee criticizes a provision that makes it more difficult for illegal immigrants to claim child tax credits. The bishops called the credit “one of the most effective antipoverty programs in our nation.”

Haven’t these guys ever heard of separation and state? They need to look at the bigger picture

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) chastised Catholic bishops at a Wednesday news conference on Capitol Hill, saying they needed to look at the bigger picture after they complained that the GOP budget plan fails to meet “moral criteria.”

And if they don’t understand the “big picture”, well actions have consequences

“I want them to take a bigger look,” Boehner said. “And the bigger look is, if we don’t make decisions, these programs won’t exist, and then they’ll really have something to worry about.”

Despite the claims of the CIA’s chief historian David Robarge, the document should not remain in the CIA vaults because its conclusions “could cause scholars, journalists, and others interested in the subject at hand to reach an erroneous or distorted view of the Agency’s role.” Historians, after all, are well trained in treating documents –especially CIA hagiographies sources– skeptically..

    Well, ain’t this just special;

    Dear MoveOn member,

Since 1999, average student loan debt has increased by a shameful 511%. In 2010, total outstanding student loan debt exceeded total outstanding credit card debt in America for the first time ever. In 2012, total outstanding student loan debt is expected to exceed $1 trillion.

In response to this crisis, U.S. Representative Hansen Clarke of Michigan has just introduced H.R. 4170, the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012, which would extend a helping hand to those struggling under massive amounts of student loan debt.

That’s why I created a petition to Rep. John Kline, Chairman of the House Education and the Workplace Committee; the United States House of Representatives and Senate; and President Barack Obama on SignOn.org, which says:

Total outstanding student loan debt in America is expected to exceed $1 TRILLION this year. Millions of hardworking, taxpaying, educated Americans are being crushed under the weight of their educational debts, while the economy continues to sputter. Support a REAL economic stimulus and jobs plan. Support the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 (H.R. 4170).

On the other hand, there’s this one: “You’ve seen Obama Crony-Capitalism at work? Well, your quality of health care will depend on how politically connected you are.”

And to key ObamaCare supporters that’s not a bug, it’s a feature. In fact, it’s the feature.

On the other hand, there’s this one: “You’ve seen Obama Crony-Capitalism at work? Well, your quality of health care will depend on how politically connected you are.”
And to key ObamaCare supporters that’s not a bug, it’s a feature. In fact, it’s the feature.

It just gets better and better.

If I understand this right Jon Stewart on COMEDY CENTRAL makes fun of Fox’s wars on everything and annoys the Catholic League enough to initiate a fatwa boycott against Stewart’s sponsors. In the meantime they (Catholic League) insult adoptees and inspires the RNC to denounce the Catholic League.

The cover-up is revealing. This episode of “The Daily Show” was done to protest Fox’s alleged indifference to the “war on women,” and in doing so Stewart not only made a vulgar attack on Christians, he objectified women.
We are asking Stewart to apologize. If he does not, we will mobilize Protestants, Jews, Mormons and Muslims to join us in a boycott of his sponsors. Moreover, we will not stop with a boycott; there are other things that can be done to register our outrage. We are prepared to spend the money it takes to make this a nationwide issue, and we are prepared to stay the course. Tomorrow we will have something definitive to say, one way or the other.

Now we’re going to be drafted to fight in the War Against Comedy

Can you provide us with a link where we can find out who his sponsors are and how we an contact them?

Given he and Colbert’s current ratings, it wont take much to replace both of them with Ren and Stimpy re-runs.

Nobody around here cares anything about the self-hating Jew, Jon Stuart Leibowitz, or anything he might say.

Leibowitz has been waging a war against the art of comedy quite adequately all by himself.

And now some words of wisdom from my man, Mike Lee. Regarding Obama’s “fairness” in taxation:

Far from making the corporate tax system “fair,” the president’s corporate tax plan punishes smaller businesses, worsens the punitive double taxation of American companies that operate overseas, and, at a timewhen gas prices are spiking, selectively hikes taxes on American oil producers.

Fairness in the market means companies compete on a level playing field, and no one receives special treatment. The president’s idea of fairness is just the opposite, relying on market manipulation and picking winners and losers. His budget and corporate tax reform plan are chock-full of examples of special treatment, subsidies, and regulatory manipulations designed to determine outcomes. President Obama believes he can control markets by taxing Americans and deciding for himself how to allocate revenue, rather than letting us decide what to do with our own money in the free market.

Far from being “fair”, the president’s plan discriminates against family-owned smaller businesses by only reducing the tax rate for big corporate employers. For the 30 million sole proprietorships, partnerships, LLCs, and S-corporations that face taxation at the individual rates, their tax rate goes up from 35 percent today all the way to over 40 percent next year. For a president who claims to look out for the little guy in the face of predatory corporate greed, this tipping of the scales in favor of big business contradicts his rhetoric.

Issa and Cummings told Sullivan that “your task is to restore the world’s confidence in the U.S. Secret Service.”

The New York Times got the first interview with the prostitute whose argument over payment led to the discovery of the activities of the Secret Service agents and a handful of military personnel under investigation by the Department of Defense.

She claimed she was a high-priced escort and charged the agent $800 when he offered only $30. She also noted that not only did she spend the entire night in the agent’s room, only to be woken by a call from the front desk, but when she wanted help getting her money she fetched another prostitute who had stayed the whole night with an agent across the hall.

This idiot, a US Secret Service officer, offers a call girl in Colombia $30 for the night. This guy had to be a xenophobic, anti-free trade Democrat. Republicans know better, understand valuation of services in economics and embrace the leveling effects of globalization.

And besides, I have encountered high-class Colombian ladies of the evening in various Latin American locales and I would estimate they are worth every bit of the $800 – if you have it.

Purely a theoretical estimation on my part, of course.

#58 Texanadian. Excellent article and food for thought. Read it and all the comments.
Since the lefties currently trying to force their twisted idea of Utopia/Marxism upon us are all children of the 60s and their spawn of the next generation, it should be no surprise that they are running the same plays again. So the comparison to fighting the last war is right on.

Only this time around their crying wolf/racism is fast losing its luster from overuse at every excuse. So is diversity worship for its own sake. A majority of folks are fed up to here with the antics of so-called protected classes. IMHO the once-staple race card play is becoming tattered as the state of our Republic and economy declines precipitously, and patience with this game is perilously thin. But those who play it are too self-absorbed to see that. It’s pretty close to “That dog won’t hunt” any more. Once that happens the thugs are in trouble.

Political correctness is an irrational suicide pact for a free people.

Quoting Ann Coulter, bold mine. This is sort of a book review Coulter does on “Negroes With Guns”:

We don’t know the facts yet, but let’s assume the conclusion MSNBC is leaping to is accurate: George Zimmerman stalked a small black child and murdered him in cold blood, just because he was black.

If that were true, every black person in America should get a gun and join the National Rifle Association, America’s oldest and most august civil rights organization.

Apparently this has occurred to no one because our excellent public education system ensures that no American under the age of 60 has the slightest notion of this country’s history.

Gun control laws were originally promulgated by Democrats to keep guns out of the hands of blacks. This allowed the Democratic policy of slavery to proceed with fewer bumps and, after the Civil War, allowed the Democratic Ku Klux Klan to menace and murder black Americans with little resistance.

    (snip)

In 1640, the very first gun control law ever enacted on these shores was passed in Virginia. It provided that blacks — even freemen — could not own guns.

Chief Justice Roger Taney’s infamous opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford circularly argued that blacks could not be citizens because if they were citizens, they would have the right to own guns: “[I]t would give them the full liberty,” he said, “to keep and carry arms wherever they went.”

    (snip)

Under authority of the Anti-Klan Act, President Grant deployed the U.S. military to destroy the Klan, and pretty nearly completed the job.

But the Klan had a few resurgences in the early and mid-20th century. Curiously, wherever the Klan became a political force, gun control laws would suddenly appear on the books.

This will give you an idea of how gun control laws worked. Following the firebombing of his house in 1956, Dr. Martin Luther King, who was, among other things, a Christian minister, applied for a gun permit, but the Alabama authorities found him unsuitable. A decade later, he won a Nobel Peace Prize.

How’s that “may issue” gun permit policy working for you?
