Good Friday Open Comments

A bit less than 2,000 years ago an era ended. It was the last day of the pre-Messianic time. The new era would not begin for a couple more days.
A kangaroo court convicted the Incarnate Word of God of blasphemy and drug him over to the local civil governor to petition for what they considered to be a fitting punishment. The governor, in fear of losing control over the situation washed his hands of the problem and acquiesced to the demands of a mob and had an innocent man (indeed the only truly innocent man who ever existed) flogged and put to a grisly death by crucifixion.

The Holy Gospel According to Luke gives us excellent examples of repentance and forgiveness:

32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”
38 There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:32-43]

Jesus forgives those who put him to death: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
The one criminal who asked him for forgiveness received exactly that from Jesus. He acknowledged what he had done and that he deserved to be punished, but he asked for and received divine mercy from the Son of God.

The good folks over at The Thinking Housewife keep an eye out for all important obituaries the rest of us might miss.

The death of Adrienne Rich, in calling disproportionate attention to itself, has overshadowed the nearly simultaneous passing of another important figure in the evolution of modern feminism. That few people have heard or read the name Zera Selbstwerther-Eigenwerth is not surprising considering that Ms. Eigenwerth’s bold, transgressive style of thinking roused the hackles of her male colleagues in the elite world of meta-mathematical theory, causing her to be marginalized on the fringes of academic respectability. Ms. Eigenwerth, who suffered the indignity of never being promoted beyond full professor, was repeatedly fired from various mathematics departments during her early career until she switched subjects and became an expert in Women’s Studies, where she pioneered such areas of femino-numeric theory as Clitoriparabolistics, Gynosymptotics, Tribadometrics, and Sapphoconics. Ms. Eigenwerth’s 1989 study The Propriety of Improper Rational Expressions, eschewing numbers entirely and written in emotionally charged free verse using the first person, was hailed by Women’s Studies Quarterly, Women’s Studies International Forum, Hypatia, and other similar publications as representing a breakthrough in the formerly androcentric field of higher mathematics.

Also featured is the recent tribute to the late Ms. Adrienne Rich, richly sanctified on the pages of the New York Times.

Widely read, widely anthologized, widely interviewed and widely taught, Ms. Rich was for decades among the most influential writers of the feminist movement and one of the best-known American public intellectuals. She wrote two dozen volumes of poetry and more than a half-dozen of prose; the poetry alone has sold nearly 800,000 copies, according to W. W. Norton & Company, her publisher since the mid-1960s.

Triply marginalized — as a woman, a lesbian and a Jew — Ms. Rich was concerned in her poetry, and in her many essays, with identity politics long before the term was coined.

Triply marginalized ? I’d say she hit the trifecta.

Is it truth or fiction ? You can be the judge.

I don’t have much use for Nick Denton and his Gawker gutter-trolling websites except when they stumble across eternal truths while wandering around in dark alleys. Take, for example, this diamond in the muckbucket by somebody named Hamilton Nolan about Tom Friedman of the New York Times:

Mustachioed soothsaying simpleton Thomas Friedman long ago mastered a formula for justifying business trips all over the world by writing columns about them—columns that, while not genuinely insightful or even pleasant to read, contain a sufficient number of plausible-sounding platitudes to enable your average Xerox Corporation regional manager to sound informed during his morning meeting with underlings and sycophants.

The formula is pretty much like this: schedule a few interviews, fly on out there, and piece together a column with a bunch of quotes from people capped by a zingy opener featuring some jaw-droppingly obvious bit of conventional wisdom or common knowledge presented as revelation, combined with either something a cab driver said, or something that Tom Friedman saw in an airport. It should be superfluous in every way. Thomas Friedman is similar to Alicia Silverstone, in that he vomits up lightly chewed pap for his readers, who are babies. He can’t just keep on doing this forever, can he?

I just finished my first prayer of a novena, and prayed a rosary.

There’s something calming about praying the rosary. The repetitiveness helps to focus my mind on the mysteries, where I can wander among my thoughts there and find my spiritual nuggets. I prayed the online rosary today, where I saw something that reminded me of something I teach in class.

The origin of the word “scapegoat” comes from an ancient practice of the Jews of getting an animal – a goat – and the sins of the people being “transferred” to the goat, which was then sent into the desert. The goat’s fate was between the goat and God. Jesus was our scapegoat, taking our sins upon himself and suffering in an effort to bring us in a position where we can reconcile with God.

Thank you, Lord, for the gift of your Son. May I never take for granted His suffering for me, and may I never take for granted your love for me.

“Keith Olbermann was disheartened to discover Al Gore, Joel Hyatt and the management of Current are no more than dilettantes portraying entertainment industry executives.”

    It gets even better…

Current completely and utterly failed to run a professional news enterprise… Olberman deeply regrets his decision to put his trust in Hyatt and Gore…. Olbermann did not join Current to ruin his hard-won reputation and appear on a show that was an embarrassment.

    Klueless Paulie K:

Deficit-worriers portray a future in which we’re impoverished by the need to pay back money we’ve been borrowing. They see America as being like a family that took out too large a mortgage, and will have a hard time making the monthly payments.

This is, however, a really bad analogy in at least two ways.

First, families have to pay back their debt. Governments don’t — all they need to do is ensure that debt grows more slowly than their tax base. The debt from World War II was never repaid; it just became increasingly irrelevant as the U.S. economy grew, and with it the income subject to taxation.

Second — and this is the point almost nobody seems to get — an over-borrowed family owes money to someone else; U.S. debt is, to a large extent, money we owe to ourselves.

I’m telling you, he can’t be for real.

Would someone please tell me why these yutes were not charged with a hate crime?

Six juveniles — the youngest 11, and the oldest 17 — nearly boxed in Dallas Watts, a 78-year-old man from East Toledo.
    /snip
Mr. Watts said one of the boys delivered a single blow to the back of his head during the incident Saturday, knocking the victim to the ground.

At one point, the victim recalled being lifted from the ground so one of the boys could “drop-kick” him in the chest.

One boy, he said, put his foot on the back of the victim’s neck, with another shouting, “Kill him.”

Folks, we have a serious problem out there. There is a significantly large minority (all races) of people out there who have no moral foundation whatsoever; the ideas we take for granted as decent behavior do not exist in their minds.

Democrats have settled their latest issue with Harris County and denied voters. Harris county wanted $121,187.73 to view the denied voter list and over a million dollars if the Dems wanted it certified. There’s 32,000 names on the list. Perhaps someone can provide an estimate of how much Wisconsin charged to view the +900,000 names from its recall petitions. The lawsuit restricts the county to charging $1500 for 1250 names.

Harris County officials and the Democratic Party have settled an ongoing legal dispute over denial rates of new voter registration applications – at least for now – though an attorney for party officials say they remain concerned that more voters appear to get rejected here than in other large counties nationwide.

Some students are seeing the light!

While most kids might think it’s fun not having class or nightly homework, a group of Frederick Douglass Academy seniors knows the lack of a quality education is putting their futures in serious jeopardy.

Last week, nearly 50 high school seniors staged a public protest outside the school.

“We’ve been wronged and disrespected and lied to and cheated,” senior Tevin Hillsaid.

Hill explained he recently took a college math placement exam, only to realize how little he’s learned.

“I literally couldn’t answer a question on there,” Hill told the Detroit News. “Right now, I’m not going to be as successful as I should be because I haven’t been properly taught.”

It’s too late for them, as these seniors are “graduating,” but they are protesting for those coming behind them. And the teachers who are abusing sick leave? Will they be fired? Nope – they’ll just be reprimanded, because under their union rules, it’s too expensive and difficult to fire them.

Here are minority children, wanting to work hard for what they want out of life, probably being forced onto the Democrat plantation because they were cheated of an education.

I hope they realize what these union teachers have done to them, and remember at the voting booth.

It is even worse in NYC. The system is an abject failure and the kids are subjected to perverted creeps as teachers. The administration can’t even get them out of the classroom, much less fire them.

Sixteen city teachers have been singled out by education officials for pervy classroom behavior — but they can’t be fired, the Daily News has learned.

One instructor allegedly bent a kid over a chair and thrust into him from behind, saying “I’ll show you what is gay.” Another couldn’t stop calling girls in his gym class “sexy.” And yet another is accused of telling a student: “I slept with your mother last night.”

Fourteen of the shady instructors are still working with city kids — and two of them have been yanked from the classroom after being accused again of inappropriate behavior.

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott identified the teachers last month during a review of employee records prompted by this year’s rash of sex abuse arrests. The News requested information about them under the state’s Freedom of Information Law.

    and,

The teachers identified by Walcott range from a 30-year veteran who earns just over $100,000 to a mid-career instructor with eight years on the job who earns under $70,000.

The actions of one of them — William Scharbach of Public School 299 in Queens, who allegedly rubbed male students and lifted them by their collars — “at best, give the appearance of impropriety, and at worst, suggest pedophilia,” wrote arbitrator Paul Zonderman.

It is confirmed: This country has become a funhouse carnival ride.

How in the world does anyone make the leap from a woman that swears she bought the winning lottery ticket and misplaced it to a smear Romney campaign?

With a Sweet Swine Pork Rinds cap of course.

After Wilson’s picture was broadcast by The Baltimore Sun and news organizations across the country, a reader from Chicago wrote in to suggest that Wilson and her cap were part of a political stunt designed to smear Mitt Romney, the GOP frontrunner for president. See, when you Google “Sweet Swine Pork Rinds” your first hit is for an anti-Romney site.

I see where Hugo Chavez is off to Brazil after his Cuban cancer treatments failed him.

A few points come to mind:
    1) If the Cuban medical care is incredibly awesome, a la Michael Moore, why couldn’t it cure him?
    2) Some of the very best cancer treatment centers are here in the U.S. Perhaps the smell of sulfur would make getting treatment here too difficult to handle.
    3) I don’t wish ill on anyone, but really…I’m not too unhappy here. I’m trying to remember my Christian values, but when faced with someone like Chavez, it’s a more than a little difficult.

Let’s see…confessions on Saturday at 4:00 pm at my church…

    Yeah the ungrateful bastidge.

The only benefits he loses are:

One of the most important benefits they lose is their preference in the federal hiring process. Under the Veterans Employment Opportunity Act, veterans who meet certain criteria — which includes discharge under honorable conditions — are afforded extra points on their examinations for competitive service positions.

Similarly, veterans must have been separated under honorable conditions to be appointed to federal agency positions without competition under the Veterans’ Recruitment Authority.

Without the benefits of federal hiring preferences, veterans with an OTH may turn to the private sector for employment, but they may find themselves vulnerable.

The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act provides veterans employment and re-employment rights and protects them against discrimination on the basis of military service. However, service members lose their USERRA protections when they are separated under other-than-honorable conditions. This law applies to both public- and private-sector employers.

So, yah, if his life goal was to become an overpaid, underworked, government functionary sucking off the public teat while contributing little to society, he’s pretty much screwed. But then, its pretty obvious that he’s not a Democrat, so I doubt that it will affect any future plans he might have.

If he does care, he will be able to petition to have it upgraded almost immediately. Few requests for upgrade are denied. Its likely he will have an excellent chance for that after November.

What I find hilarious are their probable motivations for weighing in on the matter at this point in the primary. I’m sure their polling numbers among women are going to skyrocket as a direct result of their bold endorsement of women on the links. (Please pardon me while I laugh aloud…)

Well I found what I want for Christmas; World’s Largest Machine Gun, the 40mm Bofors.

This is simply the world’s largest machine gun, shooting150-200 rounds per minute, weighing in at 4,370 pounds and costing its lucky owner about $150,000 in working condition.
    ~
The cartridges for the Bofors weigh about five pounds each and pack enough charge to send a two pound projectile out of the barrel at roughly 2800 fps (the ejected cases move at about 200 fps coming out of the back of the cannon).

    DAYAAM 😀

Why is it you lefties reflexively respond by barking about rights talk or free speech nonsense when no one said anything about the three morons’ First Amendment rights ?

I emphatically disagree with Gingrich, McCain and Romney. I will make fun of them. I will laugh derisively at jokes about what they said. I will enjoy satirical cartoons ridiculing their grandstanding and conspicuous indignation in service of their own bald ambitions.

I will never attempt to deny them the right to say whatever dumb thought drops down from their heads and out of their mouths like a set of triplet gumball machines. I will also passionately defend their right to make fools of themselves in public by taking on all comers in that battle.

There is a difference between “standing” and the ability to voice an opinion. You and I are equally free to do the latter. There is no evidence of any intention among any of the four politicians to turn their “shared” (lol) opinion into policy. I think all four did it for purely political reasons on the advice of their respective professional political strategists.

Seeing as folks appear to be interested in Wisconsin voting, the Waukeshee County Clerk who runs the elections has been asked to step aside or resign for the upcoming recall elections. Apparently her “discovering” 14,000 votes that flipped the results to the Republican nominee two days after the last April election, has folks examining her operation a lot more closely.
This last election didn’t go much smoother.

Shortly before midnight, a Patch [newspaper] writer had hand-counted the results, which Patch then used to report the board incumbents had won with comfortable margins. At about 2 a.m. the county posted results for most local races. The county’s results were largely the same as Patch’s hand count.

The fact that they are responding to it at all means they are falling into the media trap. Obama cannot help himself, as he thinks we should all rejoice in his wisdom. The Republican candidates should not succumb to the thinking that everyone is entitled to their opinions on every thing.

The Republican candidates need to redirect their efforts to more constructive goals. Like pointing out to the press that whether women play or not play at Augusta is somewhat less important than, say, JOBS, or the PRICE OF ENERGY, or THE NATIONAL DEBT, or the FAILURE TO STIMULATE, or the INCREASING RACIAL DIVISION BEING GINNED UP BY THE LEFT.

Just because they have the right doesn’t mean they should.

Phylis Schlafly visited the Citadel to provide a talk as part of the Conservative Intellectual Tradition in America course taught at the school. They invite old wingnuts to give talks to pad out the course hours. The textbook itself is only five pages including the end papers, title page, and dedication.

Schlafly talked to a group of Citadel students about the culture of conservatism and the history of the religious right. She told the all-male group that “feminist is a bad word and everything they stand for is bad.”
And she warned them about having personal relationships with feminists. “Find out if your girlfriend is a feminist before you get too far into it,” she said. “Some of them are pretty. They don’t all look like Bella Abzug.”

“My view concerning drug treatment in such cases has changed. For example, when I was young, idealistic and less experienced, whenever I had a case of homosexuality, masturbation – or, as Haredim put it, ‘compulsiveness in sex’ – I would say: ‘Homosexuality is not a mental problem, masturbation is certainly not a mental problem or even a medical problem. I do not treat people who do not have a medical problem.’
“Over the years, I saw that people who do these ‘awful’ things suffer terribly because of the conflicts they create. Those urges, impulses or behaviors place them in conflict with their society, and then they become depressed. In these cases, I would indeed prescribe medicines that block these conditions.”

    Obama’s War On Women

Obama played 23 rounds of golf between January and October of 2009 before inviting a single woman to his foursome, the New York Times reported. This was emblematic of broader concerns over the president’s preference for the company and advice of men:

The technical foul over the all-male game has become a nagging concern for a White House that has battled an impression dating to the presidential campaign that Mr. Obama’s closest advisers form a boys’ club and that he is too frequently in the company of only men — not just when playing sports, but also when making big decisions.

“Women are Obama’s base, and they don’t seem to have enough people who look like the base inside of their own inner circle,” former Clinton press secretary Dee Dee Myers told the Times.

This is interesting from your link:

Herbicides can be effective, but they also kill wildflowers and, again, have no impact on seeds that are already in the ground. Bastard cabbage also builds resistance to the chemicals.

The wildflower center recommends pulling the invasive plants, roots and all, when possible. But it’s also discovered hope in organic warfare. Simmons’ research found that aggressively over-sowing with gaillardia, or blanket flower, suppresses the bastard cabbage without much effect on wildflowers. He’s impressed with this bullying-the-bully approach to ecological restoration.

“Where there’s gaillardia, there’s no bastard cabbage,” he says.

He believes other native species with biological traits similar to those of the bastard cabbage also will reduce infestations.

    Speaking of genitalia:

Hazel Jones has a condition called uterus didelphys, which caused her to be born with two vagina’s, as well as two uterus’s and two cervix’s. She first discovered her abnormality when her boyfriend noticed something different and advised her to seek professional medical opinion.

Doctors have advised Jones that falling pregnant could be dangerous to her and her unborn babies health. Since she has two uterus’s she may become pregnant in both which may lead to premature birth, miscarriage and excessive bleeding.
On the light-hearted side Jones stated that although she would never contemplate starring in a pornographic film but she will gladly show off her condition to curious people.

    You should see her photo.

I’ve followed Ashkenazi, Hasidic and the fringe groups in the news as they appear. It’s one of those things that they are a tight knit group and tend to leave other people alone. In Israel they are clashing with the secular world, occasionally I post a Jewish riot here.

What has caught my eye this time, is the revelation that to enforce the cohesiveness of the group, apparently large amounts of psychiatric drugs are dispensed to keep the adolescents and malcontents in line. I’m sure there is a measure of sensationalism to this and it is Haaretz, but it’s an interesting line of thought.

One of my favorite cases involving religious freedom involves Orthodox Jews.
For those unfamiliar with Halakah (Jewish Law) they have an incredible amount of restrictions and interpretations about what can be done or not done as they go about their religious lives. For example, there 39 categories of activity prohibited on Shabbat (Sabbath). One of these categories prohibits moving items, car keys for example, between a private and a public domain. To accommodate moving items between between houses, the community may place a symbolic fence around an area called an Eruv. This symbolic fence can be a string or a plastic line that can be strung on telephone/utility poles and along lines. This permits the observant to carry things from one place to another without going through a public domain. [Note this is a simplification of a complex law]
The orthodox association strung their strings and announced that they had established an eruv. The borough of Tenafly noticed the strings and tore some down on the grounds of separation of church and state and existing rules about posting bills or stringing stuff along utility and telephone poles. They prevailed in court.
The Tenafly Eruv Association appealed on the grounds that the law wasn’t enforced and singling them out for enforcement was religious discrimination. As evidence they cited the usual lost dog/cat/child posters ubiquitous in every neighborhood. They won the appeal.

The reason I like this case is because it represents a precedent of state recognition of religious law, Halakah, without surrendering sovereignty. I am reminded of this as I read knucklehead outcries and laws targeting other religious laws such as Shariah.

Words mean things. Learn that lesson and life will go much easier. Google is your friend and there are plenty of examples of Romney talking about policies that equate to micro managing. This is not about just private clubs. Romney is just like his Dad. Look up daddy George W and HUD. A huge boondoggle that intrudes on private property ownership. And why is he “courting women” on that small of an issue when most women could care less. That alone is very telling. He said what he said. He believes it or…… was he lying his arse off? So are you telling me he is a liar, he really does not believe what he said?

And if you don’t care about Brown cuz he’s not running for president, why do you care about Pappa Romney? Cuz Mitt’s got his genes and therefore will act like him? Perhaps sometime soon we’ll learn that Mitt’s been brainwashed into this whole conservative thing. I still say Brown is relavent since he ran a superb campaign. That alone makes him relavent.

He believes it or…… was he lying his arse off? So are you telling me he is a liar, he really does not believe what he said?

For personal reasons, I cannot stand the “are you saying he’s a liar” appraoch. I won’t explain why specifically but simply put, it’s lame. And, no, I’m not calling him a liar, nor am I calling you a liar, but I do disagree with you on your take over Romney’s Augusta comment.

“I am not a member of Augusta. I don’t know if I would qualify. My golf game is not that good,” Romney told reporters after an energy-themed event in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. “Certainly if I were a member, if I could run Augusta, which isn’t likely to happen, of course I’d have women into Augusta.”

Romney: Women should be allowed to join Augusta

What part of government involvement do you glean from that?

Why I think that’s stupid is because this is the headline and soundbite. That, as you have said, he has no standing to say, he’d allow women in Augusta, it should be “Romney asks Obama, ‘if you’re so concerned about women, then why have so many lost their jobs under your presidency?’” This would be far more effective than just saying, “I’d allow women into Augusta if I ran that club”. By the way, he already disqualified himself from having a say so in the matter.

I don’t think any of the 4 politicians that weighed in on the golf issue are sincere or even serious, but for different reasons. It may not be accurate to term it a “war on women” but three years of social conservative republican legislators and governors running amok with some pretty bizarre legislation has wissed off quite a few women. This is fact. The three remaining republican hopefuls made a desperate effort to try and distance themselves from that portion of their party. Obama’s strategists saw a weakness, and jumped on it. That’s how the game is played.

It’s as simple as that, and funny to boot. Such is the best entertainment our political industry has to offer.

That is absolute hogwash Darren. That is pandering to a very small constituent group. There is nothing pro-woman in that comment. The correct answer is

“Augusta is a privately owned entity and the principles this country was founded on (property rights), they have the right to pick and choose their membership.”

why do you care about Pappa Romney?

Because apples do not fall from the tree. And I am betting you have not studyed politics as much and the Romneys as much as I have. Chip off the old block he is. Daddy Romney was a big gubment guy. You look at a man form where he came from and you can get a darn good idea here he is going.

Brown is not running for President. This discussion is about Romney and his campaign for the Presidency. You wanna debate Brown, I am not your huckleberry. You are trying to make some point that is not germane to this discussion.

For personal reasons, I cannot stand the “are you saying he’s a liar” appraoch.

I asked you if he is lying. does he believe what he says or not? It is a fair question. Is he lying or not? If he is going to be my president I want to know if he is playing me. Nobody asked if Obama was lying and here we are stuck like chuck. You set yourself up as the grand apologist for Romney, I want to know if he is lying. There is not one thing wrong with that question.

I have been listening to Romney’s headlines and soundbites and too often he has had to back track and explain “what he really means”. Same thing with Santorum. I wanna know what both men believes. It is easy to hide a persons flaws when that person is spending so much time attacking his opponent.

    Have a nice evening.

    Cuz it’s a pro-woman soundbite.

That is a superb answer but it won’t get Romney the soundbites he wants. In fact, he’ll be hit as anti-women and then mayny will come after him to ask if he’d agree if Augusta didn’t allow blacks in as members if that would be OK for him. I thin kin the end if he wants the presidency then he’d want to avoid all that extra baggage. Just because he did not say what you wanted him to does not mean he doesn’t believe in it.

I still wonder how you concluded that he’d be a big government micro-managing president by saying if he ran Augusta he’d let women in as members.

And there in lies another problem Darren, I refuse to vote on sound bites. Yet sound bites are very revealing. It is called due diligence and there is precious little of that in the electorate.

In that one little sound bite I was told this

    1. Either he is lying or not, he believes what he said or he does not, but the fact is he will pander for votes.
    2. If he meant what he said, then he has no respect for the traditions and rules of that private entity. IF he was in Hooties place he would have to change the rules through a vote of the membership not by his wave of a wand.
    3. Knowing what I KNOW about Romney he does believe in making the “playing field level” for everyone. He implied if it was in his power he would change the rules.
    4. He has no respect for what made this country great, that is, private property ownership. He himself said he would never be the President of Augusta, so why would he suggest he would change the rules? He is pandering and if he becomes President then he will be obligated to address places like augusta. Words mean things.

I still wonder how you concluded that he’d be a big government micro-managing president by saying if he ran Augusta he’d let women in as members.

Because I am familiar with Romney’s history, I LISTEN to what he says and I remember what he has said.

In other words you want him to win on sound bites huh? Suhweet. Romney stands for nothing and we the people get hosed a little farther down the line.

Keep on your apology tour Darren. I hope Romney wins so I can watch you twist in the wind when you see I am right.

I have looked at Johnson. He is libertarian and I have not totally abandoned my librarian libertarian roots. IF lightning should strike I would not have any problems voting for him. He has whole bunches less problems with me than any of the “R”s. He could very well get my chad during the primaries. Just call me Don Quixote.

Unlike a few other folks Johnson does not border on anarchy. Yeah he supports reforming the marijuana laws and I have no problems with his approach or reasoning. In the area of foreign policy (which is a biggy for me) he is a lot more realistic than Ron Paul. However the one thing I emphatically agree with him on is bringing the troops home and re-evaluating many of the deployments. We argued a lot about Ron Paul’s isolationist proclivities, I am not seeing that in Johnson. Taxes etc, I mean what is there to argue about there 🙂

i think if Johnson were the resident president i think he would adhere to his libertarian/constitutional views and adapt to the realities of the office. Example: He would find out there is a very good reason that Gitmo exists and that dismantling that place would not be inline with national security. But that is just my opinion of him.

There was a cartoon that floated around during the 70’s of a rat caught in a trap by his tail. To make matters worse a large hungry eagle was swooping down with talons extended.
The rat was shown standing up with giving the eagle the American Middle Finger Salute in a manuver that is better known as “bird to bird”.
More often than not I end up voting for the loser and it seems that I am right on track for the same thing this year, but I am going to walk into the voting booth and give it my best B2B.

    2. If he meant what he said, then he has no respect for the traditions and rules of that private entity.

Even with your explanation at the bottom of the same post, I have no idea how you conclude this. If he could run the place, he’d allow women. If i’m not mistaken, the members of Augusta decide ofn who becomes members and if so that would be a very good explanation as to why Romney talked about being a member of Augusta and then about being able to decide for Augusta. Would allowing women in the club violate its tradition? Yes it would. Will that traditin remain in tact until the end of time? I don’t think so. It’ll most defiitely change.

This still opens up the door to ask about race. If Augusta’s tradition was to allow only whites, would you as a cadidate say that it’s their property and therefore they may decide to allow only whites in as members? That would be the precise blowback from the media were Romney to answer in the way you said he should have. I think your answer reflects why Squawkboxnoise will never be president; not why Mitt Romney’s going to level the gender playing field for all Americans.

And so what if he’s pandering? I’d pander too in a campaign. My understanding of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, Lincoln softened his anti-slave positions while campaigning in the South than in the North. Isn’t that pandering? Isn’t this part of the nature of political campaigning?

No, I’m not going to vote based on soundbites. Theres’ better reasons to vote. You’re looking for the spiffy conservative or no one at all and in this campaign I’m looking for a person who’ll beat Obama and be a good if not very good president. Althuogh I do not expect too much for the latter, I think it is reasonable to expect and he’ll definitely be much better than Obama.

Keep on your apology tour Darren. I hope Romney wins so I can watch you twist in the wind when you see I am right.

Rest assured that when I walk out of that booth I will know exactly why I did what I did and I will walk away with a clear conscience and no one will no else will be the wiser.

Till that time I will continue to question, discuss, argue, reason and get people totally urinated off at me about their chosen messiah. I want to know exactly what I am buying and if anyone dare tell me it is best to get on board now for the inevitable they best be able to explain to me why…… cause I am gonna ask…….. I will never accept “inevitable’ as a reason to vote for anyone. I do not make my decision based on sound bites. Todays discussion with Darren is a prime example why.

The choices this year weren’t all that grand. I dunno who will win in November, but I see the Democrats in the very same position in 2016 as the Republicans find themselves now; Namely a lot of second stringers.

The Republic survived Martin VanBuren, Millard Fillmore, and Jimmy Carter. I guess it will survive this. There was a T.V. Series in the 50’s called “The Life of Reilly” and the central character usually found himself in messes of his own creation, which he usually responded to by saying; “What a revolting situation?”.

Well, Godfrey Daniels!! What a revolting situation?

“I am not a member of Augusta. I don’t know if I would qualify. My golf game is not that good,” Romney told reporters after an energy-themed event in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. “Certainly if I were a member, if I could run Augusta, which isn’t likely to happen, of course I’d have women into Augusta.”

    The correct answer is

Yes, they should be in the membership, Augusta is missing a tremendous resource. I would not care to be a member of a club that restricted its membership to citizens of specific races or gender.

And if it does change it should be from the decisions of the members. Like I said, now that Romney has made the statement he will be expected to take action on the injustices of private clubs.
And for your information Augusta was a whites only club for many years. The change came not because of government interference or outside pressures from some group of people. It was a change in the racial demographics of golf that brought the change.

And for your information Augusta was a whites only club for many years. The change came not because of government interference or outside pressures from some group of people. It was a change in the racial demographics of golf that brought the change.

You still rely on conjecture. He never said *as president* he’ll alow women to get Augusta membership. And here you are correct in that he’s not that similar from Obama. Obama’s pipsqueek spokesperson said it’s up tho the clubs to decide on its membership. I guess now Romney’s left of Obama. But wait, if Obamna won’t regulate Augusta’s membership, why would Romney? Is Romney “almost” as worse as Obama or worse? If he became president and regulated Augusta’s membership that would make Romney in this specific incident worse than Obama. If I think that Romney will be worse than Obama than I would not vote for Romney.

Why Augusta changed it’s whites members only to include Tiger Woods is not my point. My point is that Romney would inevitably receive a whooping from the media asking if he’d support race discrimination in private clubs. If you were running for president Squawk, I don’t think you’d want that. Romney never even hinted on government controlling Augusta. He said that if he were running Augusta than had allow women to join as members. There’s no totaltarian threat whatsoever in saying any such thing.

I have no desire to run and if nominated I will decline. Nice step off into the ridiculous

It’s not avoidance or stepping into anything ridiculous. I’m humanizing the campaign. If your answer is exactly the same as you said then I stand by exactly what I said. You’d NEVER become president by answering inquiries in the manner which you just did. I know that does not bother you nor do I want it to but that is reality. Unlike you, Mitt Romney *wants* to become president and so why should he answer as you say he should when that would jeopardize.

Our country is in deep doodoo because our politicians want to present an image instead of standing on the principles this country was founded on and till people like you realize the destruction that causes we will continue to get exactly the president we deserve.

We’re in deep doodoo because We the People have left principles which have made this country great. I view politicians as a result of the character of the people more than anything else though I do agree that there is an element of politicians changing the character of the people. I also agree with demanding more from politicians. But frankly your manner of demanding politicians would be will disqualify just about everyone. I also agree with you on Gary Johnson. By all means, vote for him, and even campaign for him. He really does have good qualities to offer.

I am not the problem Darren. You have yet to tell me why I should vote for Romney. All you given me is get on the train, he has got to look this way, he has got to say that thing SOUND BITES he is looking for SOUND BITES.

He also offers many good things. Taxes is one of them. Offering wavers to all 50 states over Obamacare is another. Nominating constitutionalists to the Supreme Court is another. Then again if he were a private manager of a private club and would violate that club’as tradition of gender specific admission, then I guess all that’s nullified, eh?

And that is why we are going to get crap for a president. you should have stopped with looking for someone that can beat Obama. so you do not have high expectations for Romney. I am glad to know that. we can end this now.

I was being frank. I cannot say that I’m 100% sure Romney would be a very good president but he will be a good presidnet and possibly an excellent president. I never expected either Bush to be a very good presidentfor I do not think that is guaranteed. In fact, throughout our history, of all the presidents, I cannot think of very many that were “:very good”. Washingto, Lincoln, were exceptional. Coolidge and Reagan were “very good” and many more as “good” presidents. Some like FRD, Wilson, Carter, and Obama were and is pittfully bad.

And you said this after saying you do not have high expectations of Romney? And you are trying to convince me to vote for this guy? Dang you are the best guy on Obama’s team.

    Not really.

Keep on your apology tour Darren. I hope Romney wins so I can watch you twist in the wind when you see I am right.

He said he was conservative. That is pandering, that was a sound bite and I resent it. Now I expect him to be a CONSERVATIVE. That is what is wrong with pandering. He is lying to someone.

He is being conservative. Not on all things but in the totality of things, he is.
