In the category of “Ho-leeee Crap, Not Me, Not Ever” I give you this story:
Record-seeking skydiver makes 13-mile test jump
Get that? A TEST jump! Do you keep trying until you get it right?
And that’s not all – he plans to make even higher jumps in the future, working towards a 23-mile fall to the earth.
How do you even work out getting picked up when you land? Is there a GPS beacon involved? I suppose that over the course of 23 miles, there may be some steering involved, but I still worry about landing in the middle of some hostile civilization, or hostile landscape.
And is this his theme song?

If auto insurance were like Obamacare.

Of course, if I were free falling for miles through the atmosphere, I’d probably want to make sure I had health insurance in place. Or rather, life insurance. If they’d cover me. But if it was mandatory….they couldn’t turn me down, then, could they?

Or, they could kill my dreams and ground me.

Attorney General Eric Holder, who abandoned the Stevens case in April 2009 after uncovering new and “disturbing” details about the prosecution, told lawmakers last week that the Justice Department had imposed sweeping new training courses on thousands of federal prosecutors to remind them of their legal obligations. He said the department has nearly completed its own ethics review into the debacle and that he hoped to make much of that review public later this year.

    Good for him.
But his performance indicates nothing has really changed at Justice since he took over.
There are a bunch of scumbag lifers in that Department.

An interesting read on ‘drama queens.’

Then again, maybe that’s the point for anti-activists. Nothing riles a drama queen like pointing out a rational solution to their problem, particularly one which requires them to take responsibility for their situation. Acknowledging a solution presents a duty to execute it, and that’s not as cathartic as wallowing in an imagined muck of futility. For example, maintaining that the two-party system is “broken” excuses you from participating in it. Worse, it becomes cyclical. As would-be conservative activists withdraw from party politics in protest, the parties naturally drift toward the less principled positions of those who remain. Disgruntled anti-activists disengage in order to “punish the party,” imagining that their absence is deeply felt. But the truth is that no politician sheds a tear over people disengaging from the process. They simply adjust their political calculation to the altered variable.

The use of such ammo by hunters puts about 3,000 pounds of lead into the environment annually and causes the death of 20 million birds each year from lead poisoning, said Jeff Miller, a conservation advocate at one of the groups, the Center for Biological Diversity.

What an outrageous mis-statement of the truth. The overwhelming majority of those birds 98%+ were killed by being struck by the pellets, not the slow lead poisoning. His statement qualifies as a bald faced lie.

Consumption of meat from animals that are shot with lead bullets also contributes unacceptable levels of the metal into people’s diets, Mr. Miller said in a phone interview.

That may be true olnly of those idiots who actually swallow the lead pellets. The pellets are not in the meat long enough to go into solution and if they are actually cooked, they wind up on the plate of the fortunate hunter who bagged and cooked the animal, never in his belly. This is another bald faced lie. What is it about libs and lies??

I can’t believe that I am actually typing this, but I agree with George Clooney on this one issue – the brutality in Somalia.

Movie star George Clooney was led away in handcuffs after storming the Sudanese Embassy protesting the actions of the country’s president Omar Al-Bashir, an alleged war criminal.

Clooney made the rounds in Washington this week, hoping his superstar wattage will help shine a light on the situation in Sudan.
    /snip
He co-founded the Sudan Sentinel Project, which tracks human rights abuses on the border of Sudan and South Sudan using satellite cameras. Clooney’s said in the past that he wants to draw attention to the atrocities Al-Bashir’s allegedly directed against his own people for decades, to “make him famous.”

This is a case where the mooslimes in the north are committing genocide against the non-mooslimes in the south. I guess its a good thing they aren’t as violent as the Lutherans ain’t it?

    The solution:

Get rid of the tired old losers who have been running the party for the past 20 years. Stop supporting the Dick Lugars, John Beohners, Mitt Romneys, and John McCains.

With 2 containers and some tubing a survivalist/backpacker would essentially eliminate the need to carry a big water supply as they could purify virtually any water they found. A good thing for LRRP soldiers as well.

The evaporator coil in your a/c unit is doing this right now. The system prolly won’t work so well when the humidity drops much below 30-40% this also is about the threshold where swamp coolers start to work really well.

    Great find.

Dr. Yi Cui came here from China and fortunately decided to stay. He’s already invented a silicon/nanotechnology based battery in 2007.

Stanford researchers have found a way to use silicon nanowires to reinvent the rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that power laptops, iPods, video cameras, cell phones, and countless other devices.

The new version, developed through research led by Yi Cui, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, produces 10 times the amount of electricity of existing lithium-ion, known as Li-ion, batteries. A laptop that now runs on battery for two hours could operate for 20 hours, a boon to ocean-hopping business travelers.

“It’s not a small improvement,” Cui said. “It’s a revolutionary development.”

The breakthrough is described in a paper, “High-performance lithium battery anodes using silicon nanowires,” published online Dec. 16 in Nature Nanotechnology, written by Cui, his graduate chemistry student Candace Chan and five others.

So now he and his two colleagues have come up with a simple water filter with cotton they bought from Walmart and can run it on 2 car batteries.

An American research lab, a Chinese guy, two Jews and funding from Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University could save millions of lives.

That’s real multiculturalism earning its keep.

    Great find.
Dr. Yi Cui came here from China and fortunately decided to stay. He’s already invented a silicon/nanotechnology based battery in 2007.

It seems the Palestinians became bored with trying to anihilate Jews this week and turned on the Baptists for some fresh despotism.

    In Bethlehem:

The church can still gather to pray, for now, but the PA’s decision conveyed on Saturday will have a real impact on the members of First Baptist, which endured numerous bomb attacks during the First Intifada.

“They said that our legitimacy as a church from a governmental point of view is not approved,” said Khoury’s son, Steven, who serves as an assistant pastor at First Baptist. “They said they will not recognize any legal paper work from our church. That includes birth certificates, wedding certificates and death certificates. Children are not even considered to be legitimate if they don’t have recognized paperwork.”

Info just coming out that a 22-year-old Marine was murdered on 01 Feb, about 6 weeks ago, in another insider attack. The military covered it up as if it were combat operations. Lance Cpl. Edward J. Dycus of Greenville, Mississippi was shot in the back of the head by an Afghan soldier. Our people immediately turned over the murderer to the Afghans.

That’s a huge Red Flag on numerous levels. How many other “combat deaths” have been caused by insider attacks, and how often has our military covered it up? How many murderers have been turned over to Afghans? What happens when we turn over a killer to Afghans?

We’ve taken about 200 Coalition casualties that we know of from insider attacks. How many do we not know of? This cover-up is rotten from head to tail.

This is going to be ugly and reflect very badly on the military leadership in the eyes of the American people.

With all the talk about maing water out of air, I thought Id pass on a more practical deal. The 1 micron flter is enough to filter any water one might save in a bathtub prior to a hurricane, or tap water in the first couple of days after power has been restored and a “boil your water before using” order has been given. The kit comes with everything you need to make a workable hoje filtration system for use in emergencies. The neat thing about it is that its portable enough to use hiking and camping as well.

I did some shopping for the bridal shower. I picked up some tea cups (it’s a tea party) and a few other things at the thrift store, and then went to Big Lots and found some decorations.

    It’s getting real darn close.

And our church had its fish fry tonight. I got to spend some time with some church friends. I found out one of our parishioners passed away this week. This guy always wore his leather vest with fringe and his suspenders, and you always knew when he was around. Oh, boy, did you know! His volume was never set at less than 80% of “please shut up, Mass is starting!”

He was a nice guy, and he’ll be missed.

    A follow-up to your loser

Elizabeth Glynn, chair of the Catawba County Democratic Party, sent out a statement Thursday saying Hollar only registered as a Democrat in October. Before that, she said, he was a registered Republican, first registering to vote in 2001. ………
Hollar, who grew up in Catawba County, said he switched party affiliation from Republican to Democrat in October to run for state senate because he thought it would be a fun thing to do. He said in changing to a Democrat he didn’t think he would have to go through a primary election.

Of course I wouldn’t draw any generalizations about groups he has associated himself with in the past, that would be goofy and small-minded. I’m sure the reputable news source that this was collected from has followed up with the rest of the story, perhaps even offering a rebuttal from the groups he was previously affiliated with.

I try to stay positive, it’s my nature. I try to tell myself with the Tea Party movement, 2010, Baraka Obama’s failures, etc., we have come a long way, peoples eyes are opening. Just think, Romney was the Conservative candidate last time around, this time he is the McCain. Then today Michael Berry played some Barbara Jordan stuff. I realized, it’s not about how far the Democrats have strayed in a very short period of time but, would we hear a Republican talking this way today?

We ask that you give us the chance to try to reach such a bipartisan consensus on legal immigration reform. Bipartisanship ought to be more common. There is a time and a place for partisan battles, to be sure. But immigration, like foreign policy, ought to be a place where the national interest comes first, last, and always.

Immigration is far too important to who we are as a nation to become a wedge issue in Presidential politics. We have seen that kind of thing happen before, and it is not productive. I, for one, wish that we would do away with all the hyphenation and just be Americans, together.

Entering the NFL offseason, the Texans looked like all they needed to continue their success was to find a wide reciever, maybe a cornerback and it would be good. Then they lose two offensive lineman and possibly Myers on the centerpoint of the team – offensive line. Ouch!

President Barack Obama promised over and over during the health care debate that “if you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.”

It turns out that, for a lot of people, that isn’t true.

A Congressional Budget Office report issued this week says that 3 to 5 million people could move from employer-based health care plans to government-based programs as the Affordable Care Act takes effect. And in the worst-case scenario, it could be as many as 20 million.

For Obama, it’s an inconvenient truth at a really inconvenient time — coming less than two weeks before the Supreme Court begins oral arguments on the law and just as the administration touts the law’s early benefits on its second anniversary.

And it’s not the only hard truth Obama and the law’s supporters are facing. No matter what they said about rising health care costs, those costs aren’t actually going to go down under health care reform. The talk about the law paying for itself is just educated guesswork. And people aren’t actually liking the law more as they learn more about it — and some polls show they are just getting more confused.

Raise your hand if you’re surprised.
