It’s been awhile since we’ve taken our benefactor on a visit to the motherland. Without further adieu, let’s take him home for a quick visit:

  • Mr. Cody Conner decided that the store he was trying to rob was so nice, he would try to seek employment there so he wouldn’t have to resort to robbing it.

I think the writer of the Wendy’s story was bored that day:

While phonetically similar, “drunk in the drive through” is not to be confused with “Born on the Bayou,”ย the 1969 Creedence Clearwater Revival song, or with poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, or with the blue-and-white droid R2-D2 from the “Star Wars” movies.

    And

A drive through is an alternate location at many fast food restaurants, including Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King and Taco Bell, where people who do not wish to leave their vehicles can purchase food and beverages. In general, orders are placed via a microphone system and picked up at a window.

    It’s the Catholics fault.

Perhaps most tellingly, while Santorum won big among Ohio evangelicals, Romney beat him by a solid 12-percentage point margin among his fellow Catholics. Indeed, Romney, the Mormon, has now topped Santorum, the Roman Catholic, among Catholics in every state with enough of them to measure in exit polls.

I like the new primary process. If the shannonigans weren’t being pulled in Texas’ redistricting mess, our vote on Super Tuesday would’ve mattered. Besides, the longer this plays out, the longer before I gotta listen to Romney campaign to the Democrats.

No matter how pathetic the R candidates are, I just keep thinking about the SCOTUS appointments during the 2013-2016 administration. I keep thinking about Ginsberg, Sotomayor and Kagan. That trumps everything else for me. I will be voting for “whomever” the R candidate is.

But I wouldn’t contribute a nickel to any of the current field. I put my contributions to Senate races that are flagged by Jim De Mint — think that is the best use of the small amount I have to donate.

    From the Sununu story:

Mitt Romneyโ€™s failure to quickly secure the prize begins with him and his flaws as a candidate, shortcomings so persistent that each narrow win or defeat seems only to amplify them. He has no one to blame but himself for flip-flops on issues and tone-deaf remarks that exacerbate the gulf between him and his partyโ€™s blue-collar conservatives. But he canโ€™t do anything about being a Mormon from Massachusetts, both hard sells in Southern and evangelical strongholds. He canโ€™t be held responsible for the super PACs that have kept alive candidates who in any other year would have faded for lack of funds. And, above all, he didnโ€™t create the new rules that have turned the nomination process into an agonizing crawl.

    snip

For the moment, the rules seem to be conspiring against the likely nominee, Romney, by dragging out an increasingly nasty battle against much weaker rivals. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, one of Romneyโ€™s most prominent supporters and a potential future presidential candidate, told Fox News last month that the rule passed in Kansas City โ€œwas the dumbest idea anybody ever had.โ€ Polls suggest that the slugfest with Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul is tarnishing Romney and the GOP brand.

If Romney were a better candidate, this wouldn’t be happening. He and his establishment supporters mis-under-estimated the meaning of the 2010 election, and mis-over-estimated the ability of their media machine to convince pizztoff grass roots Conservatives that we should set aside our principles (once again) because he’s the “most electale”. They forgot that we are now organized amongst ourselves and have our own information system.

Clearly, all the other states are capitalizing on the recession by emptying their mental wards and jails, sending all their crazy people to the Sunshine State. Castro did the same thing in 1980.

#20 Squawk: The whole progressive ad line would not be so bad if it could simply be avoided during any single one hour show; due to their slavish adherence to the concept that more is better, this is not possible. The higher ups at progressive (and Jos A Banks, V-8, Geico, plus a few others) do not understand the concept of diminishing marginal returns much less negative marginal returns. Take V-8 juice, for example, during my breakfast time, m-f, I watch Fox News; during that time I am punished by a V-8 commercial at least once during every single commercial break. So during the 45 minutes or so that it takes to cook and eat breakfast that friggin commercial comes on at least 6 times EVERY FRIGGEN DAY FOR MONTHS. I used to like V-8 and it is a great base for Bloody Mary’s, at this point I will never buy it again, because of the oversaturation of their commercials.
    What a waste of money.

How many hamsters out there get the recorded call on their cell phone about the “important information regarding their credit card acct”? I have had my cell phone on the do not call list since 2008 and these calls still come in. I have even pressed one to speak with a representative to tell them to stop calling and it continues. I report the offenders to the donotcall.gov website, and the calls keep coming.
Seeing as the calls keep coming, what is the use of the legislation?

#27 EG: Ifn you could pull your tongue out of your cheek for a minute, a phone call is an interruption. The interruption may be welcome, depending on who is on the other end, but it is an interruption non-the-less. When the donotcall legislation was passed, the interruptions to peoples lives was so great that they demanded that something be done as the interruptions were hindering peace. While I can appreciate the desire of people to do business and to advertise same, I also have the desire to be left in peace and not harassed by telemarketers, that was the purpose of the legislation – to stop the harassment. My phone is a tool for my customers to reach me, if they ask me not to call I don’t – why can’t I be afforded the same courtesy?
The fact that the calls continue means that the legislation has no teeth and/or the people who are supposed to be enforcing the legislation have been bribed by the telemarketers to look the other way. What has to be done to make the harassment stop, is violence in order?
Let’s be real clear here, I am not asking for anybody to do anything, I am demanding that they stop harassing me. I am demanding that they cease an activity against me which is very different that demanding that they perform an activity for me.

Former Corporal Megan Leavey, of Rockland County, wants to take in a German shepherd named Sergeant Rex. They hunted for IEDs on Iraq during two tours of duty.
They were both severely injured in Iraq when an IED exploded near them. The dog is 10 years old now and can no longer serve.

I guess peta doesn’t get involved with military dogs, because, you know, military dogs are with the military and therefore are not worthy.
Even UpChuck Schumer is supposedly trying to help.

Regarding the do not call list and our friends at Wikipedia:

The registry only applies to residential lines, not to business lines.
A person may still receive calls from political organizations.
A person may still receive calls from not-for-profit organizations.
A person may still receive calls from those conducting surveys.
A person may still receive calls from companies with which he or she has an existing business relationship for up to 18 months after his or her last purchase, payment, or delivery from it, unless person specifically asks the company not to call again.
A person may still receive calls from a company up to 31 days[8] after submitting an application or inquiry to that company, unless the company is specifically asked not to call.
A person may still receive calls from bill collectors (either primary creditors or collection agencies).

My phone is a tool for my customers to reach me, if they ask me not to call I donโ€™t โ€“ why canโ€™t I be afforded the same courtesy?

That would fall under exception #1. If you’re phone is on a business list with anyone, they probably coughed up your name.

FWIW, the do not call list is used by political types and non-profits as a source list.

The Texas Secretary of State matched DPS records against those who provided a driver’s license when registering, there are approximately 2 million cases of voter fraud in Texas. Of course those on the left will claim that government’s record keeping is horrendous and that state officials are incompetent, but I’m sure the Republicans will stand behind their actions. After all it’s better to disenfranchise 2 million voters than run the risk that O’Keefe will vote in a Texas election.

The state’s contested voter ID law could provoke widespread complications in the upcoming presidential elections, with as many as 18 percent of all registered voters across Texas apparently lacking state government-issued photo IDs to match their voter registration cards, according to records obtained by the Houston Chronicle.

Because of historic discrimination, Texas and other Southern states face special scrutiny under the Voting Rights Act, which requires those states to win approval from the Justice Department or a Washington, D.C.-based federal court before making election changes

At the time of the voting rights act, the south was under the iron fisted control of the Democrats. The Democrat party of Texas had to be sued to allow blacks to vote in their primaries; the Republican primary was always open to blacks and anyone else who was registered to vote. Suddenly, with the Reagan Revolution, Texas and most of the south woke up and became Republican and now the D controlled DOJ has to stick their noses in everything to try to protect as many D seats as possible. That anyone could look at any DOJ approved congressional districts and not say they are horribly gerrymandered is laughable.
Those who fail to take the basic steps to properly register to vote and maintain valid photo ID do not have the prerequisite intelligence to vote. Once again, it is not disenfranchisement to prevent fraudulent votes, it is not disenfranchisement to prevent votes from those who have not taken the basic and simple steps to register and maintain valid photo ID, it disenfranchises a legitimate voter for every illegitimate vote cast. If I can understand that and you call me names, just who is the stupid one?

Theyโ€™ve specifically asked that you schedule their commercials in dayparts or programs free of content that you know are deemed to be offensive or controversial (for example, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity)

Romney won 87 percent of the 848 votes cast Saturday on the main islands of Saipan, Tinian and Rota. …. Romney was considered the favorite. His son Matt and wife Laurie visited Saipan, and he was endorsed by Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, chairman of the island’s Republican Party.

If it wasn’t for Obama’s 57 states slip of the tongue, I wouldn’t know the US still owned these places; let alone that they have a Republican party.

One year after work, I stopped off at the election place at City Hall wothout going home and getting my card, and tried to vote with just my driver’s license.
No dice. My ballot was put in the provisional pile with the explanation that if there were enough provisional votes to influence an election, someone would plow through them and sort them out.

You continue to peddle that meme, even after state laws were presented showing that the only way your ballot was put in the provisional pile was if:

    1) you could not present your voter registration certificate, your name was on the list of registered voters, and you could not produce another form of identification (which could be as simple as a current utility bill), or
    2) your name was not on the list of registered voters and you could not produce your voter registration certificate.

If your experience was different than that you should have reported the event as a violation of state law. But of course that wouldn’t be as cool as running around the innernet claiming you’ve been disenfranchised by evil Texas Republicans.

Looking into the built-in stove, most every one I have seen is sabbath certified. I was always puzzled why the stoves I have had, have this complicated timer starting mechanism to turn on up to 24 hours in advance. It’s most certainly an added cost and mechanical timers are one of the first things to crap out on a stove. Also putting food in an oven 24 hours in advance does not seem to be a good hygienic practice.
It appears one of the Jewish denominations has a prohibition about turning things on during their holy day and this overcomes it. I’m unsure of the food loading mechanism, perhaps a prohibition on salmonella supersedes a prohibition on opening refrigerator and oven doors.
I suppose if I was xenophobic I could boycott appliance manufactures until they make me stop paying for added features to subsidize someone else’s religious belief; but that would seem kind of silly, plus I don’t have a media outlet filled with unthinking minions spring loaded to express Faux outrage at an absurdist position.

Seriously? Weโ€™re going to govern in response to potential violations?

Finally! It seems to be getting through, despite only 7 charges of voter fraud in over 100 million votes cast, the Texas legislature inserted impediments into the voting process that has worked so well.
    Welcome into the light. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I know it’s hard to believe that the Texas legislature would provide restrictions to constitutional rights based on the unproven allegation of potential violations, but there you have it.

HEADLINE:Iron Dome Foils 90 Percent of Missiles
The Iron Dome system has intercepted 90 percent of missile attacks on urban centers during the latest rocket bombardment from Gaza.
    /snip
The Iron Dome system intercepted about 90 percent of the rockets fired at Beโ€™er Sheva, Ashdod and Ashkelon, including three on Sunday morning.

Despite the rocket barrage, Israel kept open the Erez Crossing for passengers and employees of international organizations operating in Gaza. Kerem Shalom was open for the delivery of 200 truckloads to Gaza residents.

So the Pals are bombing Israel again, or should I sat still and Israel has not yet wiped them all out?!? Let’s be real about this, just how many rockets from Cuba or Mexico do you think it would take before we wiped them out? I continue to marvel at the restraint of Israel.

False. South Texas is legendary for voter fraud (Nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more, say no more.). If it hadn’t been for LBJ’s and Daley’s fraud machines there’s a good chance “America’s First Royal Family” would never have been born. False. There is no impediment inserted into the process, unless remembering to bring your DL or free state-issued ID would be considered an impediment.

    …that has worked so well.

Thank you for the continued support in making my case, but I’m not really in need of any help.
Your link to how vote fraud really works, only demonstrates that the impediments to hand ballots, cast at a polling station have nothing to do with vote fraud. Absentee voting, as folks continually pointing out, is the area most susceptible to fraud and is not in any way affected by showing your state issued ID.

I predict that soon the Texas AG will begin recommending absentee voting for those affected by these ridiculous rules designed to discourage voting.

Machine politics is much aligned, perhaps rightly so. But when not engaged in alcoholic debauchery, ballot box stuffing or cad-like behavior, there is a reason that the machine works. A simple illustration to prove my point.

I drove home Friday in the pouring rain. It took 35 minutes to traverse NASA Road One because the stop lights were blinking.
Now, if this was Wisconsin, and there wasn’t already a officer there directing traffic; I and 500 other irate voters would have been on the precinct captain’s phone wanting to know what he/she was going to do about it. Members of the opposition party would call their alderman, they would also call the dominant precinct chair, but they would be more polite.
The point is, the machines work because at the basic level they are responsible to the lowest level of voter.
IMO, this is more enforceable in the Northern climes because, hey, if you don’t have your act together, you freeze to death. Which is why the bums migrate south in September, with less and less returning each year. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve seen folks with frostbite frozen to sewer gratings, it’s not pretty.
And if you don’t keep the traffic (and commerce moving) moving? Ask Michael Bilandic, ex-Mayor of Chicago.
Now all this doesn’t mean machine politics are any better or any worse than other political systems, the system is subject to cronyism and spoils. But for the average guy in the street or shopowner in the neighborhood, it works.
Next time you’re caught in traffic on 610 because of rain, call your Republican precinct chair/Tea Party representative, express your opinion and ask her what she’s going to do about it; let me know how that works out. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Leon Panetta in testimony before the House Armed Services Committee the other day got cross wise with several of the Congressman regarding what it takes to use military force. It’s a long story with precedent having been set with the last administration.

At issue is Syria, the administration doesn’t want to go anywhere near it and Republicans want to get involved. At any rate, this has inspired Rep Jones to submit a Concurrent Resolution “expressing the sense of Congress that the use of offensive military force by a President without prior and clear authorization of an Act of Congress constitutes an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor under article II, section 4 of the Constitution.”

Now the topic isn’t the resolution itself, these things are submitted all the time on arcane and goofy topics, I doubt it will even get read in the committee. What to observe over the next week is how this concurrent resolution will magically transform into a story about the House considering articles of impeachment by the faux outrage generators (FOG) in wingnut land.

Merely a dialog on accountability and how machine politics works.
The issue could be stoplights, the snow plow dinged your car or the city caused sewage to back up into your house. It’s all about responsive government and what the electorate tolerates.

It is with no small amount of incredulity we note your comments regarding the position of Mssrs. Panetta et al and the ability of the POTUS to make war, justified or not, sans oversight by anyone other than perhaps the FLOTUS, her mom and/or the TOTUS. What an ingratiating position for the SecDef. He must be prepared for war(s) at any point on the globe at the drop of a fainting audience member regardless of the availability of funds to support such adventures.

Assuming the preservation of the Constitution, our current Kenyan will be escorted off White House premises early in 2013. His successor will be required to clean up the mud on the carpets and count the spoons. No matter who the successor is, he will face the very economy so decried by Allahโ€™s favored undocumented son. To spit in the eye of the very people to whom the Chicago organizer will appeal for financial support seems, at best, ill-advised. Or is it? Perhaps our Messiah is planning to leave his successor in just this predicament as his legacy to be eternally enshrined in the first presidential library ever constructed in Africa.

On one point you are absolutely correct, you canโ€™t make this stuff up.

    Just an FYI from weatherunderground

    …significant rainfall for March 8-11 2012 brings
Houston to its 4th wettest start to a year…

Another vigorous storm system brought periods of heavy rain to
southeast Texas. The city of Houston has received 4.73 inches of
rain already in March and 15.78 inches for the year. Last year…
the city of Houston had only received 5.83 inches of rain through
March 11th. The difference between 2011 and 2012 is striking. Last
year was the 3rd driest year on record and the Feb/Mar period was
the second driest Feb/Mar period on record. Fast forward to 2012
and the year to date rainfall of 15.78 inches is the 4th wettest
start to the year on record. 2012 trails only 1992 (18.26
    inches)…1891 (17.48 inches) and 1934 (16.48 inches).

To put this in perspective…the city of Houston has received
15.78 inches of rain through March 11th (71 days). In 2011…it took
304 days or until November 8th to accumulate the same amount of
    rain.

I just got back from my sister’s place. She called me earlier, crying because lightning took out their phone and internet connection. They had lost cable, too. She said Rocky hadn’t woken up all day, and she was losing it. She was using her backup cell phone, which doesn’t have a lot of time on it. I called her phone company and set up an appointment for line repairs. I made her some sausage and bean stew, a casserole, and some breakfast scrambles and took them over. I figgered she may not want to cook much this week. She was doing better; Rocky finally woke up and ate something, his daughter had come over, and they were all watching TV and talking. Rocky’s looking very thin and gaunt, but he was awake enough to visit for a few minutes. I didn’t stay too long. I felt better after seeing that she had recovered from her meltdown earlier. She told me that she had been dealing with a broken washing machine (which her son fixed), the heavy rain, a power outage, the nearby lightning strike, on top of her husband’s condition.

I don’t know how she does it. God bless her.
