Maureen “Moe” Tucker, former drummer for the Velvet Underground recently said in an interview that she is a Tea Party supporter, albeit not a very rabid one.

Mike Appelstein: In the now-infamous videotape, you indicated that you’re furious about the way we’re being led toward socialism and “incredible waste of money” being spent. Could you elaborate a bit on these sentiments?
Moe Tucker: No country can provide all things for all citizens. There comes a point where it just isn’t possible, and it’s proven to be a failure everywhere it’s been tried. I am not oblivious to the plight of the poor, but I don’t see any reason/sense to the idea that everyone has to have everything, especially when the economy is so bad. I see that philosophy as merely a ploy to control.

I am also against the government taking over the student loan program, car companies, bailouts and the White House taking control of the census (what the hell is that all about?); [about] any First Lady telling (I know, I know, “suggesting to”) us what to eat, the mayor of New York City declaring “no salt” (screw you, pal!), the mayor/city commissioners of Anytown, U.S.A. declaring you can’t fly a flag, can’t say the Pledge of Allegiance and can’t sing the National Anthem. I’m against a President dismissing any and all who dare to disagree; the water being turned off in (central) California, at [an] area where they’ve turned off the water because they want to save a one-inch fish — turning that huge area of farming land into another dustbowl — the insipid start of food supply control methinks! The government deciding what kind of lightbulbs we can use (all you “think green” people, three objections to this b.s.: 1) Those bulbs give off the light of a candle; 2) They’re very expensive; 3) They have mercury in them – how the hell are we supposed to dispose of them?).

I am against the government now thinking about bailing out unions. The unions made the contracts which include insane pensions; the U.S. government didn’t. I’m against the government closing down offshore drilling in the Gulf with one hand and with the other giving (lending?) Brazil money to help them do way deeper offshore drilling — rather curious. I’m against a government that will not defend our borders; and on and on and on.

Preach, Moe, preach!

How did you get involved with the local Tea Party movement?
I’m not “involved” with the local movement. I went to the first Tea Party in June or July of 2009 because it was within striking distance and I wanted to be counted.

Have you always had conservative views?
To be honest, I never paid attention to what the hell was going on. My always voting Democrat was the result of that. My philosophy was and is all politicians are liars, bums and cheats. I make decisions on an issue by issue basis. I’m far more of an independent than a conservative or liberal. I don’t agree with all of either side, and I think anyone who claims to is either a fool or a damn liar.

What specifically about the current administration do you disagree with?
I disagree with spending / borrowing / printing — damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! I disagree with the “we won” attitude, which is the cowardly way of saying [have intimate reproductive relations with] you! I disagree with an administration that for twenty months blames Bush. If the President and his minions are so damn smart, why didn’t they know the severity of the situation? The president has actually said (and I saw it on video) that they didn’t know!

What would you like to see change?
The current administration!

As Mickey Kaus points out, she should be an Obama voter, given her background and her thoughts on other government programs, but she is really disgusted with the Obama Administration.

But my main thought while reading her rant was—why isn’t she an Obama voter?

I’m serious. Was it really necessary to piss people like her off? Tucker’s almost a perfect Obama voter. She’s a single grandmom. Not rich. Famously worked at Walmart (after being a rock star) and complained about it. A lifelong Democrat—until now. Was what Obama felt he had to do—save Detroit, save Wall Street, jumpstart the economy, pass health-care reform—inevitably incompatible with her world view? Was a huge rebellion of people like her simply what you get when you “impose a liberal agenda” on a “center-right country,” as Charles Krauthammer argues? Or did Obama gratuitiously fail to reassure her that her not unreasonable fears (e.g. “How the hell will this utopian dream land be paid for?”) were unfounded?

I, like Mr. Kaus, think that “gratuitiously fail to reassure her” is a great line. Check the article to find out what he means by that. You won’t be disappointed.

    What more interesting than yesterday?

That being said, this election comes down to one simple word that was echoed all during the 2008 election cycle “CHANGE” there was a call by the voters for change, but they failed to see that when the POTUS, House and Senate, all are of the same party and the same mindset, there will be change, however it will only be change in their direction. I still believe that the best governance from DC comes when there is confilct between the executive and legislative branches. That way they can temper each other’s extreemist views.

    GEEK HELP!

We take pictures of our jobsites to protect ourselves in lawsuits. For some reason, our printers are now not reading the SD chips. At the site, Hubby is getting message that “chip is full”. When we try to download, the chip reads “0 pictures found”. We are unable to extract any data from the chips, though Hubby says he is taking the pictures. Keep in mind that Hubby does not know how to turn on a computer.

We have been using these types of chips for years.

Interesting musings in the OP/EDs today.

David Brooks serenades the Democrat Party with a melancholy rendition of Feelings:

In short, it’s hard not to be impressed by the spirit of self-approval that Democrats have managed to maintain this election. I say that knowing it may end as soon as next Wednesday, when, as is their wont, Democrats will flip from complete self-worship to complete self-laceration in the blink of an eye.

Ed Koch predicts a GOP takeover of both houses of congress:

It is for these reasons, I believe, the coming November tsunami will roll across America and give the Republicans, who are undeserving of the honor, control of both Houses. The American public is enraged and wants to punish those who have been in charge of the country. They know those who will replace incumbents may be as bad or worse, but they also believe they can’t do any greater damage. They are willing to put up with them until the next election to teach our elected representatives a monumental lesson — that public service is an honorable profession and must be performed competently and honestly.

We are an optimistic, generous people, who believe in fairness and justice. And we will be heard.

George Monbiot thinks the Koch Brothers are the Tea Party puppet masters.

The Tea Party movement is remarkable in two respects. It is one of the biggest exercises in false consciousness the world has seen – and the biggest Astroturf operation in history. These accomplishments are closely related.

    Clark County Insists Election Fraud-Free

LAS VEGAS — Some voters in Boulder City complained on Monday that their ballot had been cast before they went to the polls, raising questions about Clark County’s electronic voting machines.

Voter Joyce Ferrara said when they went to vote for Republican Sharron Angle, her Democratic opponent, Sen. Harry Reid’s name was already checked.

Ferrara said she wasn’t alone in her voting experience. She said her husband and several others voting at the same time all had the same thing happen.

“Something’s not right,” Ferrara said. “One person that’s a fluke. Two, that’s strange. But several within a five minute period of time — that’s wrong.”

I have said it before, but the poor in the States have no idea what poor really is like especially compared to the rest of the world. I have stared poor in the eyes and seen the anguish. I have seen what passes for a poor house which primarily consists of cinder blocks, cardboard, and tin sheeting. I have smelled poor. I have received all sorts of thanksgiving for giving what to me is pennies on the dollar.

The poor in the U.S. have it extremely well. Do I want to help them? Yes. Do I want to see them do better? Yes. Do I want my hard earned dollars siphoned from my wallet just to disappear into that abyss known as the Welfare State? No! We have given the poor in the U.S. a really nice floor so that they can maintain dignity and self respect. It is now up to those very people to work hard to go beyond that and get up off the floor.

Happiness should not be equated with stuff or materialism, however, unfortunately it is.

Voter reports problem with ballot machine.
Man said he voted straight-party ticket and got opposite results.

Sam Laughinghouse of New Bern said he pushed the button to vote Republican in all races, but the voting machine screen displayed a ballot with all Democrats checked. He cleared the screen and tried again with the same result, he said. Then he asked for and received help from election staff.

“They pushed it twice and the same thing happened,” Laughinghouse said. “That was four times in a row. The fifth time they pushed it and the Republicans came up and I voted.”

    The default was Demoncrap,… Unteresting~

Take a look at the toss ups here and tell us which ones you think will go Democrat.

I’m thinking Boxer and Murray—-but I could be wrong.

Boxer b/c Brown is doing well and might bring more Dems to her column.

Murray should be a loss, but WA has mail in voting and some VERY liberal districts.

If it goes that way, it will be a 50/50 tie.

But it does look like its possible that it ends up 49/51 for the Pubbies.

And they don’t need Delaware to make it happen.

you know Koch got it partially correct. We (electorate) is mad and is going to show those in office that they are there at our whim, and we have no problem replacing them with someone else. But he is wrong in the fact that we believe that those we are putting in there will be worse, we are making these changes in the hopes that they will perform better. Again typical liberal mouthpiece trying to doom and gloom the electorate and their independent thinking.

I am cooking dinner before my meeting tonight. I may sneak outside to pick up pecans. The winds we’ve had the last few days have started to blow them down. I saw some people on a neighboring street coming out of people’s yards with bags of pecans, getting into their cars.

I love my neighborhood, but I don’t want strangers squatting in my ditch nor meandering through my yard during October and November. And it looks like a bumper crop this year. Last year, not a single nut. This year, they look loaded.

There used to be a viper that hung around LST who was the most vile liberal I probably ever encountered in the blogosphere. Strangely enough we shared common interest in music. Other than that the only thing I ever agreed with him on was that the political winds blow and the pendulum swings and sooner or later the side you favor will end up winning (and losing). It will be a very interesting Wednesday November 3 to wake up to. If predictions hold true, and I have no reason to doubt they won’t, I don’t think anyone could have predicted the Dem gains would be so short-lived. If that comes to fruition the Republicans would be wise to learn a lesson as well.

Most years we see green pecans in the streets as the squirrels start tackling them in late summer. This year I didn’t notice any of that. I don’t know what’s different this year, because they certainly haven’t gone away.

A Rand Paul supporter is apologizing after he was seen on video stepping on a liberal activist’s head.

Tim Profitt, a volunteer with the Republican’s U.S. Senate campaign, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the camera angle made the scuffle Monday night appear worse that it was. He criticized police for not stepping in and says other supporters warned authorities about the activist. …

The Paul campaign cut ties with Profitt, removing him from his role as Bourbon County campaign coordinator and banning him from campaign events.

    And…

“The Paul for Senate campaign is extremely disappointed in, and condemns the actions of a supporter last night outside the KET debate. Whatever the perceived provocation, any level of aggression or violence is deplorable, and will not be tolerated by our campaign. The Paul campaign has disassociated itself from the volunteer who took part in this incident, and once again urges all activists — on both sides — to remember that their political passions should never manifest themselves in physical altercations of any kind.”

The Paul campaign immediately denounced the stomping. That was quick.

    This was quick too:

(CNN) — A campaign volunteer for Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul was identified by police Tuesday as a suspect in the stomping of a woman outside the venue of a televised debate Monday night.

Tim Profitt “is currently being served with a criminal summons ordering him to appear before a Fayette County District Court Judge,” said a statement issued by the Lexington Division of Police.
