1. Buy microwave. A cheap one. It might not last long.
2. Gather several fruits, vegetables, other foodstuffs, and small household objects.
3. set up high-speed video camera to record the impending doom and carnage.
4. Irradiate one of the items until something interesting happens.
5. If oven is destroyed or otherwise ceases working, get another one.
6. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Well, the sleep experiment was a partial bust. It wasn’t a fair test b/c the hammock was not techinically hanging. The sleeping pad I had put in the double bottom was in contact with the bar on the hammock support frame. But I was well insulated, except for a strip about 2″ wide between just below my pillow and running along the width of my shoulders. Its annoying as all get out to have a 2″ wide strip of your body being even a few degrees colder than the rest of it. I have a solution, but the problem is that now I’m getting an ever increasing load of styuff to carry.
On a rather interesting note, did you know that listening to Roy Buchanan’s The Messiah Will Come Again makes coyotes howl?

Joseph Koenig hits the nail on the head here.
Unfortunately, the GOP elite’s failure to understand exactly why Gingrich did so well portends the sad prospect that Republican leadership isn’t going to improve anytime soon. In election after election, and on issue after issue, the Republican base has felt increasingly frustrated and disappointed by their party’s leadership, who have consistently underperformed, buckled under media and opposition pressure, and squandered any mandate provided them by the American people.
With a candidate like Newt, who brings with him loads of personal and political baggage, such reactions as those seen in the debates reveal sentiments that run much deeper, and that have been building far longer than any one campaign season. The Republican rank and file have been sending messages to their party leaders for years, but without avail. The GOP has touted itself as the party of fiscal responsibility and smaller government, but for too many years, their supporters have seen government and spending continue to spiral out of control, even when they put Republicans in charge.

Romney lost big in South Carolina against split opposition support. However, Mitt shouldn’t take it personally. The “Anybody but Romney” vote, could well be renamed the “Anybody but What We’ve Already Tried” vote. The Republican voters have already tried the next-in-line, safe, establishment candidate, and lost–to Obama no less. As heroic as they have been in wars past, there are no more perfect examples of this kind of unexciting candidate as John McCain and Bob Dole, both of whom have now publicly endorsed Romney.
If they had a real understanding of why Newt surged, and why their preferred candidate has failed to connect with voters, they would have kept McCain and Dole as far from cameras and microphones as possible. To many, Romney is the best Republicans have in their current field of candidates, but to openly associate him with the same tired, uninspiring cast of characters of elections past is more than just bad political strategy. The tone-deafness of the Republican establishment could not be more astounding.
The big problem with the Republican Party is how they treat their own people, particularly the rank and file. Threaten the Leadership Status Quo even just a little bit and a fire storm will rain upon your head. The problem with this kind of thing is that its effective for only a short time and does not build lasting loyalty. The Pharisees and Sadduces get to keep thier jobs, but at a terrible price. Threaten a leader like Joe Straus you get called an anti-semite or deranged.
Win an election against their preferred candidate, and a campaign of destruction is waged against you.
Mitt Romney’s goal in Florida is no longer just winning.
After Gingrich Newt scored a surprise blow-out victory in South Carolina last week, the former Massachusetts governor not only unleashed a political broadside of epic proportions.
“It not about winning here anymore,” one Romney staffer told BuzzFeed. “It’s about destroying Gingrich — and it’s working.”
The Republican Party is destroying itself.

Wives are an odd lot. I recently acquired some sails that had been stored while still wet and had mildew stains. Checking some forums, soaking them in the tub with laundry detergent and bleach looked like the way to go. Seemed perfectly logical and did not need any prior explanation to the other dweller of this domain. That hands on hips ‘what the wiss are you doing now and what the wiss is in our bathroom!’ glare should have been expected, I suppose. It took a few moments of gaping like some big fish until I realized what she was annoyed about.

Wives are an odd lot, eh?
Well, given my experience, it’s surprising your could find the bleach.
My Hubby, looking for trash bags one day, called me plaintively “Where’re the trash bags?” “In the cabinet, where they always are!” “I don’t see ’em!”
Wife goes downstairs and all around the kitchen peninsula and to the laundry area (stopping make some lunch, as that is quite a trek) to find Hubby looking into the cabinet, bottom shelf, where the box of bags is supposed to be. They weren’t there, as the box had recently been emptied and thrown away. I reached to the shelf just above, right at the front of the cabinet, and got a fresh box of bags, and put it in the usual spot. “Oh” was all he said. I just walked back around the kitchen, back up the stairs, and back to whatever it was that I was doing.

A teacher is explaining biology to her 3rd grade students. She says, “Human beings are the only animals that stutter.”
A little girl raises her hand. saying, “I had a kitty-cat who stuttered.”
The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could become, asked the girl to describe the incident.
“Well,” she began, “I was in the back yard with my kitty and the Rottweiler that lives next door got a running start and before we knew it, he jumped over the fence into our yard!”
The teacher exclaimed, “That must’ve been scary,”
The little girl said, “It sure was. My kitty raised her back, went ‘Sssss, Sssss, Sssss’ and before she could say ‘Sh-t,’ the Rottweiler ate her!”
The teacher had to leave the room.

Racial epithets are thrown before the punches? And then we see this line in the story?
Police did not immediately know whether the teens would or could face hate-crime charges.
If you’re going to have hate crime laws, they should be applied equally.
And that goes for the cops here in Houston, if the investigation shows that they beat up their handcuffed prisoner. The fact that they took the wife’s memory card from her cell phone is very suspicious.

Did they have a warrant to confiscate and search the digital equivalent of that woman’s personal papers and person? If no, that is a serious violation of the 4th amendment.
As far as beating up a prisoner goes, did the terd spit on them while cuffed, did he kick them or otherwise assault them? If yes, then the beating he got was justified; if no, then those cops could be in for a world of trouble. Linkie please. -

#21 TT: I think lots of people knew it was a hoax all along because:
1) no mention of solar fluctuations in the models
2) no mention of volcanos in the model
3) no mention of large scale forest fires in the model
4) no mention of the variable distance of the earth from the sun, AKA the wobble in the orbitWhen one factors any 2 or 3 of these into the existing models, all of mankind’s cumulative output is reduced to statistical noise.

It was a news story over the past week. I’ll search for link…
Ah! Here it is.
According to what I’ve heard (and there hasn’t been an investigation yet), the man was stopped for a traffic infraction, somehow got himself handcuffed, and the wife says he was on the ground, cuffed, and the officers were kicking him. She was taping the whole thing and that’s when the officers turned on her and took her phone. When she got it back, the glass was cracked and the memory card was missing.
And it appears we have a new “community activist”. I’m sure that Quanell is kicking himself right about now.

Sent from Adee,
More on Global Warming…..In spite of a multidecade international campaign to enforce the message that increasing amounts of the “pollutant” carbon dioxide will destroy civilization, large numbers of scientists, many very prominent, share the opinions of Dr. Giaever. And the number of scientific “heretics” is growing with each passing year. The reason is a collection of stubborn scientific facts.

DARN that science!
That was one thing I was happy to hear from Perry’s mouth on the campaign trail. He disputed the MMGW “facts,” and that was the most public argument I had heard. I wish that he could have focused on that more – it impacts all sorts of trade, treaty, economic, and regulatory issues. Not to mention that cutting MMGW off at the knees would remove one more tool from the socialist indoctrination machine.

NOt only would it remove a big tool from the arsenal aimed against us, it will thoroughly discredit those that slavishly promoted it, from the pseudo-scientists to the [cool kids] who fund them to the “new” teams who promoted the lie. This is a global scam and when the bulk of the people figure it out, there may be a shortage of tar and feathers.

Another Romney adviser was more derisive of the Anybody But Mitt Republicans.
“They like preachers,” the adviser said of the tea party demographic. “If you take them to a tent meeting they’ll get whipped into a frenzy. That’s how people like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich get women to fall into bed with them.”

#31 TT: IN the comments section of your linkie, there were numerous comments stating that they really haven’t defined life yet, to which I say balderdash.
1) The organism must have metabolism
2) The organism must have the capacity to reproduce
3) The organism must have DNAAn unborn baby in the womb has all three of the above characteristics, therefore it is alive. There are those that state that it can not reproduce, to which I say balderdash, it can and likely will if left alone to live; just like most 3 year old girls. A three year old girl can not reproduce, yet can anyone with a straight face say that little girl running, screaming and talking back is not alive?

#37 TT: Imagine that you have a ball on a string and you are swinging it around your head. The string is tight and when you do it correctly the ball stays in a well defined orbit. Now put a washer on that string and give it a little shove towards the ball and watch what happens . . . . . . . .the washer flies away from your hand and moves toward the ball. Now try and imagine that the washer is replaced with a little creeper mechanism that holds the string and slowly crawls up the string until it is far enough away from your hand that it does not have to work to climb. Using the “rope” described in your article that could be the cable for a space elevator.

Good afternoon Hamsters. Cool 40 and sunny this morning morphed into overcast and upper 60s by 1pm. Slight chance of rain in the forecast might or might not come to pass. Since our sprinkler system was installed early this month we haven’t needed it. Mother Nature has taken care of moisture needs for yard and pastures. But its time will come.
Back to work on tax preparation for the accountant next month. In this household I’m the designated organnizer to archive the material and assemble it in some sort of order before hauling it to his office. Spouse’s input is usually minimal other than to stay away from the table on which the evidence resides in discrete piles until assembly is complete. 🙂

#37 TT: I just watched the video and this popped into my head: Use those carbon nano-tubes to make a bow string; it would be real easy to pull back and using a trigger release, which is very commonly used now, one could easily fire the voltage necessary to cause the bow string to contract and propel the arrow. It would open the joys of archery to more people. Not to mention that it would make a real good short range weapon for special forces when silence is critical.

It would open the joys of archery to more people. Not to mention that it would make a real good short range weapon for special forces when silence is critical.

Pound per pound, this nano-yarn is stronger than steel, yet is so light it almost floats in air.
This doesn’t sound right to me. If it almost floats in the air, wouldn’t you need a huge mass of it to weigh a pound and thus equal the strength of a pound of steel? Seems like you would compare an equal volume to show the comparative strength of 2 materials. Say 2 wires of equal gauge and length.

Are you saying I am looking at it wrong? I’d rather hear that a 100-micron wire of nano-muscle is 20 times stronger than a 100-micron wire made of steel. Or a 100-micron wire of nanos is as strong as a 2-mm steel wire. Something definitive. I don’t want to hear that a pound of nanos are stronger than a pound of steel.
Considering the photo looks like it was taken with an electron microscope, the concept of “a pound of nano-doodles” may be moot anyway.

Win an election against their preferred candidate, and a campaign of destruction is waged against you.
I know. And if you’re a successful capitalist than you get pre-attacked by your Republican rival bafore a successful state primary election.
Threaten a leader like Joe Straus you get called an anti-semite or deranged.
You;re anti-Semite only when his Judaism is used as a reason not to vote for him. With Romney when his Mormonism is used to not vote for him, you’re anti-mormon. To those people, there I’ve encountered a few on the logoshpere I simply tell them, “good then don’t vote for Romney because he’s Mormon. Good luck in the general election when it’s between him and Obama.”
As for being deranged, I think being fantic about Joe Strauss has more to do with that classification than simply opposing Strauss.

Jim River, AK closed in on the all time record coldest temperature of -80°F set in 1971, which is not only the Alaska all-time record, but the record for the entire United States. Unfortunately, it seems the battery died in the weather station just at the critical moment.
Dang it. I hate it when batteries die at critical moments. And, dang, -80, that’s cold.

I guess I was a bit too unworried about Baby Girl’s arm. She was t ohave her cast removed today and get a short cast set on her arm for more movement. It turns out though that her bone have not healed right and they scheduled surgery for 7:00 am tomorrow morning. No doctor expressed urgency as far as I know but the bones do need to be reset and I’m not sure what exactly the surgery will entail. It looks as though that I’m going to take off work tomorrow as the doctors want two people there since Baby Girls will be doped up.
Thoughts and prayers will be appreciated.

And the number of scientific “heretics” is growing with each passing year. The reason is a collection of stubborn scientific facts.
And yet none are identified. Why? They’re afraid that 8 years ago an editor completed his time as editor and wasn’t fired from government service, after violating peer review protocol. As I recall, ultrasound is what they use to break up kidney stones.
The testis is composed of many tubes called “seminiferous tubules.” The seminiferous tubule on the left is from a testis that was not treated with ultrasound while the tubule on the right is from a testis that was treated with ultrasound.

Hey look! Here’s an identifiable fact!
The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years.
The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.
Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit. It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997. -

Hey look! Here’s an identifiable fact!
Written by a Times staffer from a paper that says:
Yet, in its paper, the Met Office claimed that the consequences now would be negligible – because the impact of the sun on climate is far less than man-made carbon dioxide. Although the sun’s output is likely to decrease until 2100, ‘This would only cause a reduction in global temperatures of 0.08C.’ Peter Stott, one of the authors, said: ‘Our findings suggest a reduction of solar activity to levels not seen in hundreds of years would be insufficient to offset the dominant influence of greenhouse gases.’
Gypsy’s editing principia mathematica now, she claims Newton actually added 1 + 1 and got 3.

Seems you forgot the following paragraph. But then, its de riguer for warmists to ignore stuff like this:
These findings are fiercely disputed by other solar experts.
‘World temperatures may end up a lot cooler than now for 50 years or more,’ said Henrik Svensmark, director of the Center for Sun-Climate Research at Denmark’s National Space Institute. ‘It will take a long battle to convince some climate scientists that the sun is important. It may well be that the sun is going to demonstrate this on its own, without the need for their help.’He pointed out that, in claiming the effect of the solar minimum would be small, the Met Office was relying on the same computer models that are being undermined by the current pause in global-warming.

“Take your message of equality of achievement, take your message of economic dependency, take your message of enslaving the entrepreneurial will and spirit of the American people somewhere else. You can take it to Europe, you can take it to the bottom of the sea, you can take it to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America.”
…“I will not allow President Obama to take the United States of America and destroy it. If that means I’m the number one target for the Democratic Party, I’ve got one thing to say: Bring it on, baby.”
Is now being redistricted out of office by the Republican Controlled Florida State Legislature.
After last night’s [Jan. 26] Republican Presidential debate, the candidates’ respective spinmeisters made their cases to the media as to why their guy won the debate. One of Governor Mitt Romney’s spokesmen was Florida Representative Will Weatherford, and during the course of his remarks in the “Spin Room”, he shed a very dim light on the ongoing redistricting process in the Florida Legislature….
West’s congressional district inexplicably sheds the most out support as compared to all other incumbent Republican and Democrat Congressman. A few weeks back we quoted an unnamed legislator saying that, “Allen West was screwed”, a statement which was originally made about made five months before the purposed maps were made public, leading insiders to believe that the fix was in against Allen West. But in light of Weatherford’s comment, it is increasingly clear that this is a fait accompli.

As a side bar, Sarge, do you take these hiking trips alone? I’ve never done that but I’d guess that it would be a great way to get away from it all. I’ve been camping a lot, on horseback and a pickup but not hiking, (mainly because of the shear weight of the gear). I like the hammock/tent concept though, light weight and functional.

It depends on the destination, distance, and/or terrain. If its a small State Park like Brazos Bend, going alone is an option, but its always safer going with at least one other person. I’ve determined that I’ll head down to the end of the road here on Friday night and camp in some old dynamite storage buildings down near the bend of the river. Scout, The Wonder Dog will be with me.
Big Bend, Wichita Mountains, or any destination that is more than two miles from civilization are things I’d not do alone, although I am considering some solo hikes on the Lone Star Trail in the fall before deer season. I consider that doable b/c there is an organized group where I can post plans and progress and folks will monitor the messages and notice if I don’t report in. That kind of hike requires a good deal of planning and a lot of staging or supplies, especially water, along the way. The good thing is that around here, the most dangerous thing in the woods is hogs and if you make enough noise and keep away from thier young un’s they’re more likely to run off than not.

“Governor Romney imposed activities on the Catholic hospitals against their opposition religious institution, refused them to allow right of conscience in Romneycare,” Gingrich said. “Just as, by the way, he eliminated serving kosher food for elderly Jewish residents under Medicare. I did not know this, it just came out yesterday.”
I guess Romney’s an anti-Semite.
As for Romneycare, I do believe that abortion was court-imposed but it’s a prime example to NOT give government, state or federal, such sweeping powers to begin with.

Not sure. It runs about 130 miles long starting (or ending, depending on your perspective) at a point summers west of Plantersville and ending around 128 miles east of there. There are, IIRC, 10-12 sections that are considered full day hikes. If I could afford the two weeks off (no paid vacation for this fat old man), I’d look at a through hike of the whole thing. But that’s a big undertaking.

But don’t worry. He did it just for Massachusetts and he’ll act differently once he’s President.

You know, I’ve got that bookmarked and didn’t even think to look. The whole thing looks like good hiking terrain but, realistically, you can only hike it half the year. You just don’t want to be in deep wood like that from Memorial Day to Halloween in this part of Texas. You’ll just never get enough wind to alleviate the heat, and that cover tends to keep the understory pretty humid. Mebbe if I was in my 20’s——

Mebbe if I was in my 20’s——

about this whole MMGW thing. . . . . . .there is a poster here who wants us to believe that the CO2 of human activities ALONE contribution to the heating of the planet will absolutely overwhelm that of the sun. That is kind of like trying to stop a hurricane with a popcorn fart; not very likely.

Ya got me sarge, the paper that the Mail relied on to make their assertion is as bogus as their conclusion. Probably why I gave the troll a pass the first time.
The pattern is the same, when the evidence is overwhelming throw rocks at the source. You really are not worth the time.

Dave;
If you want to try out this hammock thing, I’ve got an extra. We’re having a Group Hang at Brazos Bend on the 24th and you can try it out there. Should be about a dozen and a half show up. It will be at a campsite where you can car camp. There’s no bug net for the hammock, but that shouldn’t be a problem this early in the year. If you’ve got a decent sleeping bag, you should be comfy cozy. I evfen have a tent I no longer use iof you need one. Bring your own chow and water.
One good thing about camping with somebody else with each of them having a hammock instead of sharing a tent is that there’s no spooning gonna happen.

Thanks for clearing that up. I hate to think of you out camping with anybody who’s thinking about spooning. -

#95 M42: As usual, you are right. I thought that perhaps there was some sobering, or coming off of the acid trip; alas I think it is permanent. Really not worthy of further comment.

“There was an amendment offered today that required drug testing for legislators as well and it passed, which led me to have to then withdraw the bill,” said Rep. Jud McMillin (R-Brookville), sponsor of the original welfare drug testing bill.
Seriously, if there weren’t drugs involved, how could legislators come up wit these attacks on the Constitution.

Upon further reflection, i am pretty sure I have spooned in a hammock. Young people will try anything.
But no group hang.
