Mother’s Day Weekend Open Comments

Mom

Little baby told God, hey I’m kind of scared
I don’t really know if I want to go down there
From here it looks like a little blue ball
It’s a great big place, and I’m so small
Why can’t I just stay here with you
Did I make you mad, don’t you want me to
God said child, of course I do
But there’s somebody special waiting for you

So hush now baby, don’t you cry
‘Cause there’s someone down there waiting, whose only goal in life
Is making sure you’re always gonna be alright
A loving angel, tender, tough and strong
It’s almost time to go and meet your Mom

You’ll never have a better friend
Or a warmer touch to tuck you in
She’ll kiss your bruises, your bumps and scrapes
And anytime you hurt, her heart’s gonna break

So hush now baby, don’t you cry
‘Cause there’s someone down there waiting whose only goal in life
Is making sure you’re always gonna be alright
A loving angel, tender, tough and strong
It’s almost time to go and meet your Mom

And when she’s talking to you, be sure you listen close
‘Cause she’ll teach you everything you’ll ever need to know
Like how to mind your manners
To love and laugh and dream
And she’ll put you on the path that will bring you back to me

So hush now baby, don’t you cry
‘Cause there’s someone down there waiting, whose only goal in life
Is making sure you’re always gonna be alright
A loving angel, tender, tough and strong
Come on child it’s time to meet your Mom

Where is everybody? Oh well, it’s the weekend and we’ve been geting a little rain. A little over an inch last night brings us to almost 2″ (.197″) in the last couple of days so we’re getting there.

Getting a slow start to my day. Hubby is at his car show and will be joining me this evening. There was a little confusion getting into our room, which gave me the opportunity to meet a very nice security guard named Dennis. Turns out, he’s a pastor who loves Volkswagens. I’ve already told him to please ask Hubby about his car, that it would make hubby’s day. Hubby is looking forward to it.

Now, I have to get a little grocery shopping done and then I think I’m going to take a walk and explore a bit.

It is Mother’s Day and we woke up to temperatures in the mid-40s with 20 mph steady winds. Just bizarre. Tomorrow though will be low breeze, 75 degrees and blue skies.

Shawn Fleetwood wrote this, I’m sure, specifically for Dr Phil Good.

What Is the Point of Having a GOP Congress ?

What’s become increasingly clear is that, absent Trump and a few Republicans, the GOP lacks the willingness and ability to govern.

On Wednesday, reporting surfaced that a cabal of House Republicans is fighting efforts to end the flow of federal taxpayer funds to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, which also offers harmful chemical and surgical castration procedures. According to NOTUS, this group of lawmakers — which reportedly included Republican Reps. Mike Lawler, Brian Fitzpatrick, and Jen Kiggans — “made it clear to House GOP leadership that they oppose adding a measure to cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood” to the House’s reconciliation package.

So, if slashing the taxpayer subsidization of entities that terminate unborn babies isn’t on the budget chopping block for Republicans, then what is?

It’s apparently not fully repealing Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act or making significant reforms and reductions to Medicaid. Congressional GOPers have come out opposing both options over the course of the party’s reconciliation negotiations.

And what about enshrining President Trump’s executive actions (abolishing the Education Department and DOGE cuts) or other conservative-backed priorities (judicial reform and major spending cuts) into the package? Where’s the sense of urgency among Republicans to do those things?

The answer to our baby bust isn’t just ‘make more babies.’ It needs to be ‘make more mothers.’

As a mother of eight, I approach every Mother’s Day with mixed feelings. I look forward to the burned French toast, illegible handmade cards, and sweet (if clumsy) gestures from my children. But I also feel sadness. As a 40-something mom of a large, happy family, I am an endangered species. The United States is on track to surpass Switzerland as the global leader in childless women in their 40s.

I have a great life. I’m never bored. I’m constantly challenged to give more of myself, and I receive more love than I ever imagined when I was still single. Married mothers report the happiest, least lonely, most meaningful lives in our age group. In fact, 80 percent of mothers say they are “happy with our lives,” compared with just 68 percent of childless women.

    and this critical reasoning,

Why? Most pro-natalist ideas focus on encouraging women who are already mothers to have more children. Demographer Lyman Stone’s 2022 analysis shows that’s not where the problem lies. A married mom of one is likely to have a second. A mom of four today is just as likely to have a fifth as her grandmother was in 1958.

It’s not mothers who’ve changed — it’s the number of women who become mothers in the first place. According to Stone, childless women are driving 100% of America’s fertility crisis. Within a generation, 1 in 4 young women will remain childless.

Great find Texpat and as a male chauvinist pig I feel that I can speak the truth, that is all females (not just homo sapiens) are born with the motherly caring instinct but today’s society tries to teach young women that this isn’t true and you’ll be happier childless and of course single. No need for a man.

    2. Tedtam Avatar
      Tedtam

I caught a Klavan podcast where he interviewed a woman who studied the phenomenon and she agrees. We need to nurture the motherly instincts. Her stats on childlessness and the pending societal collapse were frightening.

I and reminded of that that experiment, where the populations just died out even when they had everything they needed. Perhaps because of. An easy lifestyle reduces the need for offspring to support the family, and provides time for selfish navel gazing and the acquisition of artificial means is feeling important. Protests and woke words replace the desire to find fulfillment in the original purpose of our existence – to procreate, to multiply and fill the earth.

Here’s a video of the Planned Parenthood some Republicans want to save.

This is a two and a half minute video about how shockingly easy it is for teenagers to get gender-changing hormones from Planned Parenthood. It is disgusting and criminal.

    Today’s C&C roundup
    https://www.coffeeandcovid.com/p/mrna-mayhem-saturday-may-10-2025

Good morning, C&C, it’s Saturday! We’re packing up the hotel room and will return to HQ tomorrow, so Monday’s roundup will be back to normal quality levels. That said, it’s still a terrific roundup for your Weekend Edition: C&C scores predictive win as Deputy Chief of Staff signals consideration of radical immigration policy shift; Trump defies gloomy expert predictions as US-China trade negotiations proceed; Administration scores early victory with preliminary UK trade deal; Trump team telegraphs astonishing, world-shaking tariff policy completely missed by corporate media; another prominent official arrest as New Jersey Mayor feels the J6 pain after making an ass of himself and being arrested for trespassing; and a new, peer-reviewed jab study not only further condemns the safe and effective shots but scientifically links mRNA and plummeting global fertility rates.

THE WEEK IN PICTURES: ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ EDITION

Remember the old days when there was such a thing as a slow news week? Good times, good times. The past week has been chock full of news, for better or worse. We have a new pope–sadly, another left-winger–but who knows, maybe he will grow in office. President Trump once again bestrode the world like a colossus, but his most meme-worthy initiative was restoring Alcatraz to its former glory as a penal island. It fires the imagination, doesn’t it? But let’s not get carried away with fantasies about Chuck Schumer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi as the island’s new inmates. Although some meme-masters have done exactly that.

West of San Marcos I took the option of FM 1888 (River Road) out of Blanco, TX. This route tracks the gorgeous ranches of the Blanco River bottom, with its surrounding Hills. On the next road, I was greeted by a refreshing downpour as I waved at Luckenbach.

    An oldie but goodie;
A young lady was pulled over for speeding. An Alabama State Trooper walked up to her car window, flipped open his ticket book. She said, “I bet that you’re going to try to sell me a ticket to the Alabama State Troopers Ball.” He replied, “Alabama State Troopers don’t have balls.” There was a moment of silence. He closed his ticket book, tipped his hat, got back in his patrol car and left.

Spouse and I have Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country as our favorite getaway for a few days from the Houston area. The National Museum of the Pacific War and the Admiral Nimitz Muesum are there, as the Admiral came from Fredericksburg. He became the head honcho Admiral of the Pacific Fleet in WW2.

If you go there, take comfortable walking shoes…. Not just for the museums, but also for walking in downtown Fredericksburg to see the shops that have many fine things to offer that you would not expect. And then there are the many restaurants and wineries.

cdr salamander reviews Pete Hegseth so far.

More than a few long-standing friends of mine have significant issues with SECDEF Hegseth that have merit. However, performance matters. I have to balance the weight their opinions have with me, with the SECDEF’s very real policies and actions.

How many times have we had “our people” whisper to us, “I agree this is a problem, but it is just impossible politically to take action. We’re trying, but it is just too hard.” etc.

Well, so many things we asked for but had deferred until the crack of doom, are being done. Give credit where credit is due. He is taking action—and not token action—where others were too afraid to go.

    plus,

Since the second Trump Administration has come into office, one action after another is being taken on systemic problems I thought would take a long time to correct, if ever. The top item is the broad and deep attack against DEI and the diversity industry’s cancerous presence.

Yesterday, the SECDEF went after two of them: our bloated and ineffective General Officer and Flag Officer (GOFO) cadre, and it looks like Goldwater-Nichols and COCOM reform.

    Pinch me.

He didn’t just put out a memo, he sat down in a chair and told everyone personally.

    What a treat.

I am staying with my Pastor friend. He recently accepted a call from the oldest Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg (1852).

Being a pastor is a second career for him. He was an accomplished pro organist and choirmaster. He doesn’t get to play as much as he used to.

But his Bishop is conducting services tomorrow, so my friend is performing all of the organ duties.

So, I am sitting in this darkened, beautiful sanctuary, with only the sunlight through the stained glass, listening to him practice for tomorrow.

All those hard-working federal employees slaving away to make your lives better…

A small, USAID-like federal agency called the African Development Foundation refused to hire white people, and treated white employees who did slip through so poorly that one soiled herself because she was afraid to leave her desk to use the bathroom, employees told The Daily Wire.

The agency violated so many rules and laws that its general counsel was flabbergasted — but when he called attention to it, officials framed him for violent threats and removed him from his job with a bizarre manifesto that called him “grimy” and “unwholesome,” the general counsel, Mateo Dunne, who is white, said.

The agency attracted attention by locking the doors to prevent auditors from the Department of Government Efficiency from seeing its books, and suing Elon Musk to prevent a takeover. The lawsuit is pending, but all of its employees have been laid off after the Trump administration gained access to the office space using U.S. Marshals.

    and,

Adkins bragged about concealing operations from the board, saying “them white motherf—ers, they don’t need to know… I don’t think I should tell them sh–,” according to the assistant.

A junior employee disappeared a few months after she took complaints to the board, and the assistant asked what happened to her; Adkins replied, “I just put the white b—h on a contract and then the contract ended,” the assistant said.

Hubby wasn’t feeling well, nor did he pack church clothes, so I went to my Latin mass by myself; there’s only one in the Tyler area. It’s a small church, not much to look at from the outside, but nicely decorated in the Latin tradition inside. It was packed to the gills, standing room only, and I attended one of three low masses (no singing, no frills) of the morning. One high mass would be celebrated later, after the low masses. If they were all as full as mine, that would mean that there’s a lot of pressure for the traditional Catholic liturgy.

When I returned, Hubby was perking up a bit so we went out to eat. There was a surprising dearth of restaurants, at least along the roads we were on. Surprised us, because we were driving main, well traveled, four lane roads. We finally found a Mexican restaurant and had a good meal before returning home.

Hubby’s TV headsets don’t seem to be working, and the maintenance guy (Paulino) couldn’t get them to work either, so I hopped onto Amazon and ordered a new set. Without them, Hubby has the TV volume near max, and that is annoying. As I told the front desk guy when I was confirming delivery instructions, “We’re celebrating our 40th, I’d like to make it to 41.”

I overdid my walking yesterday and Hubby is recovering from the car show and trip here, so we’re both taking it easy on this dreary and overcast day. Sometimes the best vacation is the do-nothing vacation. At least for today.

PS: Handed out five rosaries to a delightful family at the pool yesterday. One of the girls receives her First Communion next year, so her mother was quite pleased to receive the rosary. Gave away two more – the waiter at the restaurant and Paulino both picked out rosaries to take home. I told Hubby I may run out of beads before we get back home. He chuckled.

Just spreading a little Jesus around…

    A powerfully great speech.

Too bad most all of the republicant’s in congress have already quit and have never wanted to win in the first place.

And that’s where the problem remains.
    40 years and counting.

You can’t win when you’re compromised and bought off.

    Just like in Texas.
Liars and fraudster republicant’s who don’t want to win but only want power, control and fortune for themselves. To Hades with the country and state they supposedly represent.

All fraudulent republicant’s should immediately be recalled and a new election held to replace them and then charge the fraudsters with fraud.

But Ali Al-Ansari, Qatar’s Media Attaché to the U.S., told POLITICO the reports are “inaccurate,” suggesting the donation, at the very least, had yet to be finalized.

A U.S. official with direct knowledge of the plan confirmed there had been talks about the emir of Qatar gifting the plane to Trump to use as Air Force One. And a former U.S. official familiar with the situation said the talks involved the Qatari defense ministry and the Pentagon. Both were provided anonymity because they’re not authorized to speak about the issue, which is sensitive.

Citing the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, some key Democrats pounced on the report Sunday, accusing Trump and his administration of engaging in corruption and bribery.
