Good morning
Well, I’ve been all over Texas but the Big Bend area is the one place that I’ve missed and yes, it is on my bucket list.
We got a whooping 1.32″ of rain yesterday, less than the 2″-3″ we were promised but we’ll certainly take it as it was muchly needed.
Mornin’ Gang
We spent several days camping there one summer when my brother and I were still in Jr High… It was miserable at Rio Grand Village and cold at night at Chisos Basin… We all survived a hike down to the Window and back – but just barely…
Now that I’ve had more coffee, I meant to say the Chisos Mountains were beautiful – but being from Abilene, was definitely NOT an expert on mountainous terrain…. And Daddy looked down at the Rio Grande village and asked why anyone would fight over that patch of dirt LOL
Happy Hump Day, I hope everybody gets to.
Best DJ voice: “That was Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, by Meatloaf, as in don’t let yours.”
If you missed it you need to go back and check out Tedtam’s @ 10:05 PM last night about Matt Gaetz and the Spew. It seems that they were required to make a legal statement about the Gaetz investigation. My take is that if Merrick Garland’s DOJ couldn’t find anything to convict Gaetz on in a 3 year investigation there is likely no “There” There”. HELL they went after Trump with NO hint of wrong doing! ~SPITS~
Uh oh. I’ve been warned I have an insecure password, y’all don’t be hacking me now, I ain’t changing it after all these years.
Mornin!
Great Job, Joe Biden. The world is getting safer everyday.

BREAKING:
The Chinese vessel Yi Peng 3 has been chased, intercepted, and boarded by Danish Navy vessel Y311 Søløven after the Chinese vessel destroyed 2 undersea telecom cables linking Finland-Germany and Sweden-Lithuania.
The vessel sailed from Russia & the captain is Russian
Small potatoes. Biden (or whoever is really running things these days) has authorized using the ATACMS missiles on targets inside Russia proper. Putin has warned in writing that he considers it an act of war by the US since US-based computer systems are used for targeting, guidance, and launch. IOW, they would not function without direct US-based intervention.
It was intentional small potatoes with a much larger message attached.
It’s also possible the Russians and Chinese wanted the ship to get caught to let the world know they have a strong alliance and as a warning. It certainly got the world’s attention.

The media wants you to think @elonmusk
has turned X into a conservative echo chamber.
Turns out it’s the most balanced platform in the world.
It was largely a leftist echo chamber with right/correct views regularly censored. Now it is balanced so therefore it is a rightwing echo chamber. Classic leftist logic; heads I win, tails you lose.
That is very interesting 48%-47% Dem/Rep, statistically 50/50. I’d have thought it might be 40-60 after that EVIL Elon Musk bought it.
Everyone who saw or heard headline news stories about this, raise your hand.
Large Jew hating mob of pro-Hamas/anti-Israel thugs marched through a quiet Orthodox Jewish neighborhood screaming,”Whose Streets ? Our Streets !” after dark a couple of nights ago.
Imagine hundreds of white people doing the same thing in Houston’s Fifth Ward. After the ambulances carried off the dead and wounded, it would have made above the fold front page news across the country.
😀
Linda McMahon is a fine choice for EdSec. I just hope Trump told her she has 2 years to fire everybody, sell the furniture, turn out the lights and schedule the demolition company.
Linda has quite a biography with lots of long, hard work with will and determination. Today, she’s worth $3 Billion, is 76 years old and owes nobody a thing. She is uncancelable and bullet-proof politically.
Leave a few desks for Elon, Vivik and a small staff for DOGE and rent out the rest of the space.
Speaker Mike Johnson said to make it clear he believes a man is a man and a woman is a woman but did not make it clear IT will not be able to use the women’s bathroom. Speaker, if you make a statement to make it clear, make it clear.
She shoots her boyfriend several times and then fires a round at his face that was deflected. The DA only charges her with aggravated assault and sets a measly $75,000 bail. Then two months later her bail is dropped to $10K.
A crazed, jealous girlfriend who shot her boyfriend in a Texas field until she ran out of bullets has been bonded out of jail, leaving her now-ex fearing for his life.
Alexys Pinto, 23, is accused of luring her boyfriend to a secluded area on Houston’s South Side where the couple would watch the sunset, only for her to pull out a gun and start shooting on Sept. 5.
Elvis Muñoz recalled the horrifying moment his then-girlfriend began shooting at him, as he was hit in both hands, the stomach and chest as his death was “supposed to be quick.”
How that is not aggravated attempted murder remains a mystery. She could claim, of course, that if I wanted the SOB dead he would not be breathing now. A white dude would never be able to get away with an aggravated assault charge under similar circumstances. From the article:
Pinto was found to have “a mental illness or to be a person with an intellectual disability,” according to a form signed by Harris County Hearing Judge Sharon Chu on Sept. 21.
I’ll do some digging, perhaps, and see if Sharon Chu was re-elected. She should be disbarred, IMHO.
Tedtam, here ya’ go; Linoleic acid in cooking oils chart. 😉
Glenn Reynold’s op-ed column for the New York Post:
The answer is: Only so long as the pressure is on.
So how do Republicans keep the left on the run?
By taking relentless action.
Trump has hit the ground running with his appointments, unlike in 2016.
Every day brings news of a new nominee, ranging from those designed to horrify Democrats, like Matt Gaetz for attorney general, to those designed to appeal to suburban “health moms,” like RFK Jr. to head the Department of Health and Human Services, to more mainstream candidates like Marco Rubio for secretary of state.
If they were dribbled out gradually, one at a time, Democrats could organize their patented smear attacks.
This is the tactic I’ve been hoping for, day 1 start overwhelming them with one thing after another, not giving them a chance to bog whatever singular issue down for weeks and weeks. I am very enthusiastic, sure there will be some 4th and 20’s and punts, but keep grinding.
It’s like night and day between 2016 and 2024. Trump not only released his cabinet and executive office nominees in less than a week after the election, he has chosen people he trusts, many if not of whom are not DC insiders. In 2016, he listened to a bunch old hacks who recommended their old hack friends and it all blew up in his face.
PA Bucks County hearing going on right now. Lotsa people wissed off over the counting of illegal ballots.
The numbers from yesterday were temporary, dangit.
Mr. C. mentions Texas in his column today:
Good morning, C&C family, it’s Wednesday! Your white-hot roundup today includes: a surprising state office in Texas makes a bold and very welcome offer to incoming President Trump; perfect little Italian town makes irresistible offer to disgruntled Democrats; chicken hawks in Kiev flee after poking the Russian bear in the eye; more ocean cables cut and you get one guess who got blamed; G20 summit disrespects Joe Biden and not in the silly way the media reported; unemployed college boy sacrifices a body part he wasn’t using anyway and lands lucrative Congressional career triggering crisis in the House.
Texas is stepping to help Trump with his deportation efforts:
Yesterday, Rio Grande Valley’s local ABC affiliate KRGV ran a thrilling story headlined, “Texas land commissioner offers 1,400 acres in Starr County to Trump for ‘deportation facilities’.” ‘Land Commissioner’ is a state office with which your author, a native Floridian, is completely unfamiliar. But the great state of Texas has a lot of land, so perhaps it’s unsurprsing they need a commissioner. The incumbent’s name is Dawn Buckingham. Dawn is a doctor (an M.D.), and a bona fide bada**. Or however they say it in Texas.
…You could not dream of a better spot for locating a large deportation center; McAllen is a mid-sized border town with an airport located a mere 90 minutes west of South Padre Island on the Gulf of Mexico.
Dawn explains to Trump just how Texas – and her department – have battled the cartels, including those islands in the Rio Grande and what they found. They found evidence of trafficking, weapons, and IEDs.
But Texas raises its ladies tough. They may look like sweet Texas belles on the outside, but if they spot an island in disputed territory where the boys aren’t playing nice, watch out. Don’t mess with the Land Commissioner, and don’t mess with Texas.
Sweet!
Sardinia is offering homes to disgruntled Americans who are afraid of the Orange Man. For $1, those fleeing the upcoming administration can buy an abandoned home, “as is”, for one Euro. And no backsies!
But set that aside! The town of Ollolai is a postcard-perfect gem nestled in the rugged, sun-drenched mountains of Sardinia. Imagine stepping into a medieval village where time has slowed to a poetic crawl and the whispers of history echo through cobblestone streets lined with rustic stone houses. I mean, just look at it!
Grandpa’s home town of Poggioreale offered the same type of thing for the old town, not the new one. Buyers would have to renovate those crumbling, ancient buildings and provide utilities. Let’s just say those efforts would cost more than one Euro. I believe the commitment was for at least $50,000 to upgrade those new homes. I’ve been there. It would take more than $50,000, though it is a charming place to walk through. Oh, wait – there’s a sign warning that it’s dangerous, since at any moment a wall could fall on you. I assume Ollalai isn’t in similar condition.
Sadly, Ollolai is a victim of declining birth rates. Over the last 50 years, its populaton has rapidly shrunk by more than half, from a peak of 2,250 down to its current level, hovering around 1,300 permanent residents. For some reason, the Ollolains believe left-leaning Americans can save the village from becoming a ghost town.
Ollolai Mayor Francesco Columbu promised CNN that American applications will jump to the head of the line to purchase gently-used Ollolai properties. “We just really want, and will focus on, Americans above all,” the mayor explained. “We can’t, of course, ban people from other countries to apply, but Americans will have a fast-track procedure. We are betting on them to help us revive the village, they are our winning card.”
Applicants must certify that they speak Sardine.
Now, on to WWIII news:
Especially in light of the latest developments, this morning the New York Times ran a remarkably ominous story headlined, “U.S. Closes Its Kyiv Embassy, Warning of ‘Significant Air Attack’.” The sub-headline added, “The unusual alert came a day after Ukraine used American-made ballistic missiles to strike Russian territory for the first time.” In other words, they know they poked the bear.

The hot takes yesterday on social media went stratospheric, all predicting imminent nuclear war and the End of Everything. While I totally disagree with Biden’s decision (if it was his decision), I caution any decisions to panic just yet. Since Trump is incoming, both Kiev and Moscow are jockeying to improve their negotiating positions before any bargaining begins, as the Times admitted:
So, with Trump coming in, perhaps we can avoid a major, global confrontation.
More dissin’ Joe on the global stage.
While all these perilous world events were unfolding, Joe Biden was haplessly wandering around the G20 Summit in Rio de Janiero and somehow managed to be late for the group photo of all the world leaders who attended. The AP ran the story headlined, “Photo-shoot fail: Biden, Trudeau miss traditional photo with world leaders at G20.” For some reason, the other leaders didn’t wait even though they were told Joe was coming.
The picture has the BRICS members front and center, btw.
An anonymous “senior Biden administration official,” told AP that Biden missed the photo due to unspecified “logistical issues.” Logistical issues? You mean like the fact Biden stumbles around slower than a drunken tortoise? In this next clip, listen to C-SPAN reporters freaking when the other world leaders were asked to wait for Joe, but in unison they started walking away. On purpose.
Imagine how it could have gone down. Might there have been furious, last-minute wrangling going on, with Biden staying back behind the palm tree, as leverage, you can’t take the picture without him, and he won’t join until he can stand in front. And then the organizers shrugged, called Biden’s bluff, and were like, fine, if he won’t stand in the back then he’s out of the picture.
Any decent reporter on the scene should have asked serious questions about Biden’s astonishing omission. Useless corporate media meekly accepted an anonymous Biden aide’s word that it was just logistical issues. This is why we go to X for news now.
Biden is now both figuratively and literally out of the picture. He has been, for some time, at least since he was castrated by his own party. I prefer to believe that next year, President Trump and his gigantic personality will occupy in the middle of the G20 front row. And, if he is a little late, they’ll wait to take their picture. Plus, I bet they wouldn’t scurry off if they heard President Trump was coming. What do you think?
And then there’s the cross-dressing Congress—, Congress—, oh heck, the representative from the northeast. Nancy Mace has come out publicly with a motion to make the owners of penises go to the men’s room, and those born with vaginas restricted to the ladies room. The pearl clutching and wailing is loud and long from the expected perps. Mace is a rape survivor and has strong feelings about this. Then MTG jumps in:
No shrinking violet, Georgia’s firey Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) joined forces with Mace and publicly promised to fight McBride if she ever finds him in a ladies’ room anywhere in the House. It’s not quite like fighting cartels armed with grenade launchers, but Ms. Greene has all the spunk and fire of a Texas Land Commissioner.
I wish there were more strong men like all the strong ladies in today’s post. Affable Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was hectored by deranged reporters all day about Rep. Mace’s proper-potty resolution. In his first effort, mild-mannered Speaker Johnson disappointingly tried much too hard to be politically correct, amiably urging mutual respect for everyone and genially saying nothing of substance.
But at least Johnson fixed it a little later. Maybe he watched his uninspiring performance. Either way, he re-emerged at the press podium and this time, quoting Scripture as authority, definitively stated that wearing skirts and lipstick does not magically transform men into women, as if that needed saying (which, astonishingly, it did and still does).
I believe this story is much bigger than just a kerfuffle in the Congressional toilet, or even than transphobia! in the House of Representatives! Should the House pass Mace’s resolution, which by some accounts does not go far enough, it will cast a dark shadow of precedent across the nation. Pro-women activists nationwide can use the House resolution to argue for similar ordinances and rules in their own locales. If it’s good enough for Congress…
Lead by example. Protect our girls and our women.
owners of penises
What if they get it chopped off? 😉
They’s a place in the men’s room for it to sit down. This is going to be fun.
I still think they should put a porta-potty in the lobby, or front steps..
Chicago hail, what goes up must come down.
It would be funny as hell when Comcast spins off MSNBC as an independent company and then Elon Muck buys it for pennies on the dollar given the massive ratings collapse.
All of these cable networks are headed for the dustbin. Traditional networks won’t be too far behind, especially the money losing news broadcasts.
Maybe if they tried actual unbiased journalism instead of nekkid propaganda they would have better results.
Ummm, I see a spelling error in the second line above. 🙂
I spent a little time outside, doing a little yardwork. The weather is perfect! I pulled all the dead plants from my tubs and harvested a whole thai basil plant, now inside Fred on a gentle drying cycle. I emptied one of the now-empty tubs and moved that dirt to a today dug hole for my hosta plants, which have been awaiting transplant for months. For some reason, I always wanted hostas and my last ones died a miserable death. (A common result for my victims plants.) These three seem to like this location better than the plant cemetery where the previous ones were. I’m hoping that they handle the transplant well.
After all of that pulling, digging, hauling, etc., I came inside and moved my chicken stock jars upstairs. I washed my thai basil and got it all loaded into Fred and am now settling back down at my work space to start my business work day. It’s nice to be semi-retired and not have to clock in any more.
It’s good to open windows and turn off the a/c.
Say all you fellow hoser men on this blog.
had a follow up with my dr today and he wants to start me on bp medicine.
he mentioned lisinopril.
im not too keen on taking bp medicine it and am resistant to it. I would rather try other methods.
so do any of you fellow hoser men bloggers take bp medicine and would you share with me what you take and the side effects you’ve experienced?
if you don’t want to that’s fine too.
thx.
I take a couple of them. Have not had any side effects that I’m aware of. I do know they definitely do help.
Thx.
Amlodipine besalyate(sp?)
telmisartan
both are generics and therefore dirt cheap.
Since my early 50’s I’ve been taking 40 Mg Lisinopril and 5 Mg of Amlodipine. No side effects for me but I think Lisinopril can cause coughing/ticklish throat in some people. I’m lucky in that my medication hasn’t changed since the beginning when the dosages started lower. My BP is usually in the 78-125, 80-135 range. As long as I can keep the low number at 80 or below I’m happy the high number really don’t matter. Oh and when I first started with one drug and then added another Doc wanted to add a third but I said no since the numbers were fine by me. He wanted my BP to be 70-120! In your dreams! One more thing, my BP has been lower on average since I retired but I did lose 15 Lbs after I started really working. 😀 FWIW; I’m at my fighting weight of 172-175 Lbs today.
I also have taken some kind of BP med for perhaps 17 years. I had gone to a church health fair with Fay. When I got to the BP check, the first nurse took it twice, then she asked a second nurse to do the same. That’s when they called Fay over and told her it was way way high (stroke range). She took me straight to her boss from the church. I told him I wanted one with no male performance side affects. He laughed and said that we’ll find one.
Never did have any side effects.
Ever since that day I have taken in the morning Valsartan/HCTZ in incrementally increasing dosages over the many years. A couple years ago he added Amlodipine at night.
I tried to donate blood, but my bp was too high. 110/160
I started taking 81 mg. aspirin when I turned 60 on my own. The same year my doctor put me on Benicar and I was buying it at CVS. After about 2 years, it started going up from $20 each month until it reached $93 per month. I called my doctor and told him I researched and found the Japanese drug company’s patent was running out that year so they were jacking the price each month to suck as cash as they could out of patients. He pleaded innocent and put me Losartan (the drug company later was fined millions for paying kickbacks to doctors).
I went to CVS and they said this generic Benicar (Losartan) would cost $69 per month. I got in my truck and drove straight to Costco pharmacy where they sold it to me for $16 for a 30 day supply. I’ve been with Costco ever since.
I now take Olmesartan that is the direct generic form of Benicar.
NOTE: Amlodipine is a vasodilator. It dilates your blood vessels to slow down your BP, but it’s not exactly a BP drug.
My hypertension has been mild except for a period last year when it spiked high for a few weeks. It has been fine now for over a year, around 125/75. I don’t have any side effects from it.
Bottom line is the BP drugs are pretty safe and work well. High BP, even fairly mild, is pretty destructive on your health over a period of time.
It would be helpful to ask your pharmacist about BP meds. They are very knowledgeable about meds as that is their only business. They have access to detailed information on medications before doctors receive the latest information on them.

I love hostas. Always wanted to collect the various varieties, but never really had a suitably shady bed.
I incorporated hostas in all of my landscape designs when possible. Holly ferns, too.
Thx everyone for the info on my bp question.
Lost about five pounds of hair today, following a long experiment with letting it grow out. Too high maintenance. And morning scarecrow was too scary.
Hallelujah. It feels maaavelous.
It’s a different kind of light headed feeling, ain’t it?
So Shannon watched too much Steve Bannon and thought he could be cool and grow out his white hair to look like him.
Here’s the obituary for my friend. He was quite the large personality, and will be missed.
I just took my bp with a wrist type cuff; 140/92. Left arm on the arm rest of the chair, wrist about 6″ lower than the heart. I’ve been running around the house making beans and monitoring the landscapers and had 3 cups of coffee, so I am not really at rest.
Except for Piers and the black guy, never heard of any of ‘em.
The lovely Anna Paulina Luna asks a pertinent question as to FEMA skipping houses with Trump signs.
So, who is going to jail and who is going to prosecute them . . . Matt Gaetz, perhaps?
I think the political pendulum has started to swing back to the right all across the country.
House Ethics Committee doesn’t release Gaetz report after two-hour closed door meeting.
Translation: Warning from Trump: If you release that report, all the sex crimes the house and senate members committed and are paid for via the sex slush fund will be made public. I want all my appointments approved without any BS.
I mentioned the threat of releasing the secret sexual slush fund records before. I don’t know how a president, though, would have the authority to release records from a different branch of government unless the DOJ was somehow involved.
Well, Trump is planning on having friends over the DOJ, so there’s that….
I remember when slick Willy was having sex with that woman all his defenders were sayin ‘hey, it’s just his personal life and it’s just sex. Has nothing to do with him running the country.
not mention the propagandist potato headed media never mentioning the wooden dummy’s past showering habits.
