Freedom of Speech vs. Freedom of Reach: The Hidden Battle for Control

There is a massive problem with the world — censorship.

Censorship isn’t always about silencing speech in a direct, obvious way. Today, the lines are blurred. It’s not just about being able to say what you want; it’s about whether anyone can hear you. You might have the freedom to speak your mind, but if no one can access or engage with what you’re saying, that freedom is essentially hollow.

Elon Musk, in his discussions on the policy of X (formerly Twitter), coined the phrase, “freedom of speech, not freedom of reach.” This concept has since been parroted by X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who has ties to the World Economic Forum (WEF). Their stance highlights a growing trend in the tech world: allowing speech while controlling who gets to see it. While this isn’t a review of X, it’s important to explore the broader implications of this policy, because it raises a critical question: If your speech can’t be heard, is it really free?

The policy sounds reasonable on the surface, but it’s a subtle form of censorship. Limiting a person’s reach without outright banning them is becoming an increasingly powerful tool. Instead of overtly removing speech, platforms can push certain voices into the shadows. … Meanwhile, the platform remains free from accusations of direct censorship, allowing them to maintain the appearance of neutrality.

This problem extends far beyond X. It impacts the very foundation of free speech in the digital age. …

Platforms, both mainstream and alternative, are grappling with this challenge. In theory, they promise to be neutral grounds for open discourse… Are these platforms truly upholding the values of free speech, or are they selectively amplifying certain voices while quietly suppressing others? …

This dynamic begs deeper questions. Who decides what gets amplified and what gets pushed into the background? … Platforms often claim that their moderation decisions are neutral, yet we know that financial ties, external pressure, and internal biases can influence what gets seen.

Moreover, the very nature of the algorithms that drive visibility on these platforms is opaque. Users rarely know why one post reaches thousands while another barely gets noticed….

Not all platforms follow this path, though. Jeff Dornik, CEO of the alternative platform Pickax, has promised that Pickax will uphold not just the principle of free speech but also the principle of “freedom of speech and freedom of reach.” This commitment is refreshing in a time when reach is so often manipulated to control discourse. Again, this isn’t a review of Pickax, but it’s worth mentioning as an example of a platform that openly addresses both speech and reach as core values.

…it’s about a critical principle. If you don’t have the freedom of reach, your freedom of speech becomes meaningless. The ability to reach an audience is just as crucial as the ability to speak freely. …

In this environment, it is essential that users remain vigilant. We must question how platforms operate, how they handle reach, and who is pulling the strings. Users deserve transparency and clarity about how their voices are being treated, whether they’re being amplified, suppressed, or simply ignored. Platforms that fail to provide this transparency should be held accountable.

This isn’t just about one company or one policy. It’s about protecting the right to speak and to be heard. As the digital world continues to evolve, the fight for true free speech—speech that has the power to reach an audience—will only grow more important.

NASA Sis got back to me regarding the banner project that Father tasked to me. It seems that the images I’ve been sent are waaaaayyyy to small to be useful. She used the word “flabbergasted”.

I think I’m going to have to be more diplomatic when I relay this information to my pastor. Priests can be a bit touchy when told they’re wrong. I don’t know this priest well enough to know how sensitive he is, or being told his requests can’t be fulfilled. Some of ’em think of their parishes as little kingdoms, and others are truly servants to their parishioners. And sometimes one hides behind the other. I get the feeling that Fr. Felix is in between those extremes…but time will tell.

The civilian Israeli guy who shot the terrorist gunmen yesterday on the street in Tel Aviv and saved lives is a survivor of the Nova festival on October 7, 2023. He was armed with a concealed pistol, walking down the street, wearing shorts and flip-flops when he encountered the attack.

    Pachapapa has invented new sins.

In case you didn’t know, he’s not allowed to do this. It’s diabolical. The sins for which we must be forgiven are from Scripture, from God. In case he didn’t know it, pachapapa is not God. The C&C is finally up:

First up – an update on the hurricane victims fund:

This morning, the Trump Authorized GoFundMe for Helene victims surged past $3,700,000 — more than double where it began yesterday morning. Great work, team C&C!

    Now, the new commentary:

Starting with Helene – how devastating and deadly that hurricane has been. The problem being “all the water”.

Last year, I reported on the Hunga Tonga undersea volcanic eruption — the most significant climate event in modern history, which you never heard of since corporate media is utterly useless. I included all the evidence in my July, 2023 post “Overheated”… The short version is, a massive underwater volcanic eruption in the South Pacific boiled off literally unimaginable amounts of water, measurably increasing water vapor rates worldwide.

Water in the air (“humidity”) creates heat. So my point in 2023 was about the record hot summer that year. Studies I linked in the article (now very difficult to find) forecast elevated temperatures for years from Hunga Tonga moisture — worldwide.

He points out that what goes up must come down. In the form of hail or rain, etc. Since Helene had degraded before hitting the Carolina area, the worst damage was water related: floods and slides.

Regarding government policy, yesterday’s top suggestion was to give Hurricane Helene survivors protected refugee status, like the Haitians. In other words: free cell phones, debit cards, monthly allowances, food stamps, health care, home-buying credits, rent subsidies, and all the rest.

    Just for 12 months.

Twelve months, my ample a$$. But then, they aren’t illegals, so there probably will be a limit to that gravy train.

Checking in late, I have no excuse except that I slept real late, almost to 6 AM. That’s because I went to bed about 11 PM last night after watching the debate.
It was a pretty good debate and it might not move the needle but Trump’s sidekick, Al Borland, did a very good job articulating Trump’s plans and past successes. He is a real asset to Trump’s team.

Re the VP debate last night:

J.D. Vance won the debate because he is wicked smart, well-spoken, and was unburdened by the necessity of pretense. He could just be himself. Walz carried the burden of two different jobs last night: he had to debate Vance, but at the same time he also had to pretend to be a living cartoon of a folksy, rural conservative Democrat instead of a marxist tool who’s been to China over thirty times.

Walz’s China fetish procured one of the many laugh-out-loud moments last night. Headline from USA Today, last evening: [Insert headline about Awols admitting to being a “knucklehead”]

Is this frank confession going to be his Rick Perry “Oops!” moment?

CLIP: the moment when Walz proved he’s crazier than a sprayed roach (1:10).

But that wasn’t even close to Walz’s worst moment. Ultimately, it wasn’t hard to pick, though his claim that “abortion is a basic human right” was a close second place. But Walz claimed the top knucklehead prize after being asked why he opposed assault weapons bans before he supported them. Walz then said this:

I’ve sat in that office with those Sandy Hook parents. I’ve become friends with school shooters… This idea of stigmatizing mental health; just because you have a mental health issue doesn’t mean you’re violent. We end up looking for a scapegoat. Sometimes it just is the guns. It’s just the guns. And there’s things you can do about it.

I remember Vance looking at him when Awols said “it’s just the guns”. My eyebrows jumped, too. JUST THE GUNS?! Since when has a gun, all by itself, jumped up and shot people?

At the same time Walz was arguing for some kind of gun control for regular citizens, he also seemed to be arguing for giving crazy people easier access to firearms to avoid stigmatizing them. You can’t make this stuff up.

…I suppose the moral of the story is: pick replacement VPs for your selected VP in haste, and repent in leisure.

Soon, Walz will be campaigning from the basement like the rest of the faux candidates.

I read a headline that Awols skipped the after debate spin rooms.

Mr. C. comments on the ME situation:

Israel is making “incursions” into Lebanon, against Hezzies, but there are varying reports on how invasive these incursions are.

Israel is now fighting on basically every front: Hezzies, Hamas, Houthis in Yemen, and now Iran.

Iran sent many missiles into Israel, but if any, how many, made contact is unclear. Israel is reporting one fatality – a Palestinian man who was hit by a missile casing, remarkable caught on video. Nobody really knows what damage was incurred:

The Iranians claimed to have destroyed dozens of insanely expensive F35 fighter jets in the attack (don’t even ask), as well as an oil platform or oil processing facility of some kind. Israel won’t say what has or hasn’t been damaged or destroyed, apart from one empty school building. We just don’t know; that might be all.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu has promised to retaliate, but only he knows what for, since all reports say Iran’s missile strikes were ineffective. Maybe just for the attempt, which seems like a legitimate reason.

Gotta admire Israel’s grit. For a tiny country, they are fierce – but then they have to be. As I pointed out to BETA: “Israel is a tiny little country surrounded on every side by countries that want to wipe them out.” Her eyebrows popped, like she hadn’t thought of it that way, then there was a slight eye roll as she pondered her fondness for the Palestinian nurse who cared for Green Cousin as she went through the dying process. That one woman symbolizes the kindness of all the Palestinian people in her eyes.

    Forget the Oct 7th massacre.

As I’ve said, it’s useless to talk to some people. They just can’t go outside of their mental fences.

And then, on to smearing Trump with WWIII fears:

Yesterday, the New York Times ran an insidious and troubling straight news story headlined, “Trump’s Consistent Message Online and Onstage: Be Afraid.” The deeply deceptive sub-headline added, “Donald Trump has long used fear as a tool to stir up his conservative base. He’s taking his doomsday approach to a new extreme, predicting World War III and other catastrophes.”

    /snip

Pause for a moment and consider how profoundly ironic that the Times spent two full years on daily doomsday prophesying —over a moderate flu season!— just to suddenly reverse fifty years of its anti-nuclear activism and wave away the clear and present dangers as though looming nuclear disaster was more made up than covid.

I needn’t offer any evidence of this self-evident fact, but I will anyway. (Lawyer’s habit.) As recently as January… the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists set its iconic “Doomsday Clock” at 90 seconds to midnight. …“the deteriorating state of the world … is … the closest to global catastrophe it has ever been.”

To take the Times’ story at face value, we must assume that mendacious reporter Michael Gold is blissfully unaware of the Doomsday Clock, and that Gold honestly thinks Trump is stitching together the threat of nuclear annihilation out of whole cloth, as a political prop, rather than Trump reiterating what some of the smartest people alive believe to be an established fact.

    /snip

… this disturbing article isn’t journalism at all. It’s a psychological operation.

    /snip

In other words, this article was not meant to associate Trump with fissile fearmongering. It was the other was around. It was meant to associate concerns about nuclear war with deplorable former President Trump. The Times knows its readers hate Trump and reflexively hate and doubt whatever Trump thinks. So if they mock Trump for his WWIII concern, most liberal Times readers will line up and clap like trained seals. Haha! World War III! Like that could ever happen! What a moron!

In other words, the Times is trying to close the Overton Window on criticism of U.S. military policy. Anyone who questions whether the Administration’s military policy is sane will be just like Trump.

Why do they do this kind of psychological manipulation? There are several reasons. It desensitizes people to real escalations in military policy. It discredits any opposition to new military escalation in advance. It makes Biden warmongering look reasonable when contrasted with Trump fearmongering. And it controls the narrative by masking legitimate concerns over Biden foreign policy decisions.

    /snip

In other words, Biden told reporters that “no” more troops would be sent to the Middle East one day before the Pentagon sent thousands more US troops there. It’s like they’re not even trying that hard to pretend Biden is still running the show.

The Skeleton is an Endocrine Organ and Sugar Destroys It
    Tracy Beanz & Michelle Edwards

More news from the keto world:

Scientists have known for years that sugar is highly addictive. It is also factual that, despite being in almost all products consumed today, the body needs no added sugars—meaning those that aren’t naturally occurring—to survive.

I’ve heard that sugar is as addictive as cocaine and nicotine. The average American ingests POUNDS of sugar each year, 152 pounds/year from one source that I’ve seen. And starting from infancy, too. I remember talking to a woman in Kroger, explaining I was looking for some keto item because I had to keep my carbs down. “But we need SOME carbs to live!” she said. I replied that no, we really didn’t. She became slightly agitated (it was obvious she was fond of sugar) as she walked quickly away. One thing I’ve learned in the research I’ve been doing is that the liver will create any glucose that we need. The liver is a remarkable organ, it is.

OK, so what exactly is osteocalcin and why isn’t it talked about? Besides regulating energy metabolism and male fertility, osteocalcin—found exclusively in bone tissue and highly conserved among species—affects brain development and functions. Scientists have known for years that, after birth, osteocalcin favors neurotransmitter synthesis and postnatal neurogenesis, prevents anxiety- and depression- behaviors, and enhances spatial learning and memory. Without getting too technical, osteocalcin is a 49-amino-acid peptide secreted by osteoblasts into the bone matrix and the blood. Vitamin K- and D-dependent studies show the protein plays a role in the building of bone matrix and, once secreted in the bloodstream, it acts on pancreatic B cells to enhance insulin secretion and thus has a profound influence on glucose, or energy, metabolism.

One thing I learned from Dr. Berry recently is the importance of vitamin D3 *WITH* vitamin K2. K2 is relatively recent discovery, and the importance of it was unknown for a while. When I went into menopause, I was told to take more D3 for my bone health. Dr. Berry revealed to me that K2 was necessary because K2 is the vitamin that tells the body to push calcium into the bones. Where do you get D3? Supplements or from exposing your body to that big ball of fire/life in the sky. Where to get K2? Red meat.

I think our ancestors complied as a matter of course.

But is blood glucose really the body’s most important energy source? … Of course, fats and proteins also provide energy to fuel the body. We know this to be true—look at the explosion and tremendous healing in those who have ditched carbohydrates—which break down into sugar—for a keto or carnivore diet. Sure, carbs, fats, and proteins make up most American meals (with ultra-processed foods gunning to take over), but why is the primary focus on glucose for essential energy? The article explained:

“We have long known that these three classes of molecules are fuel sources for human metabolism, yet it is a common misconception (especially among undergraduates) that human cells use only glucose as a source of energy. This misinformation may arise from the way most textbooks explain energy metabolism, emphasizing glycolysis (the metabolic pathway for glucose degradation) and omitting fatty acid or amino acid oxidation.”

Those darn “experts”! I read through comments to those videos I’ve been watching, and I see over and over and over and over a list of maladies that have been reversed or cured by ditching carbs.

Further down, I see this, confirming my previous statement about D3+K2:

A 2017 study examining the synergistic relationship between vitamins D and K for bone and cardiovascular health—remember, osteocalcin is dependent upon both—found that deficits in both are strongly related to osteoporosis and CVD, or cardiovascular disease. OK, we know bone health is essential, and we know sugar compromises it. If you’re following this and wondering why added sugar is considered safe, bravo. Because they (meaning the Big Pharma and Big Government collaboration that is spending billions of taxpayer money to conduct senseless and wasteful research instead of caring for us, the people) aim to confuse. And it works … the sheep follow.

It is well-known now that the Sugar Institute paid off some Harvard researchers to blame saturated fats instead of sugar for our obesity epidemic. Big Food is as bad as Big Pharma.

I believe Shannon linked to this yesterday. This is a savage attack by Matt Taibi on the nastiest thugs on the Left in America. I wish I had written it.

Transcript from an excerpt of the Taibi’s speech before RFK & Michelle Shanahan’s Make America Healthy Again group. HT: Stephen Green.

So let me pause to say something about America’s current intellectual class from which the anti-disinformation complex works. By the way, there are no working class censors. The dirty secret of content moderation all over the world is that it’s a tiny sliver of educated rich correcting everybody else. It’s telling people what fork to use, but you can get a degree in it, basically.

The problem is America has the most useless aristocrats in history. Even the French dandies who were marched to the razor by the Jacobins were towering specimens of humanity compared to the Michael Hadens, John Brennans, James Clappers, Mike McFalls, and Rick Stengels who make up America’s self-appointed speech police. In pre-revolutionary France, even the most drunken, depraved, debauched libertine had to be prepared to back up an insolent act with a sword fight to the death.

Our aristocrats pee themselves at a mean tweet.

These people have no honor, no belief, no poetry, no art, no humor, no patriotism, which is unique to them, no loyalty, no dreams, and no accomplishments. They are simultaneously illiterate and pretentious, which is very hard to pull off.

They may have one idea, and it’s not even an idea, but a sensation. Fear. Rightly so, because they snitch each other out at the drop of a hat. They’re afraid of each other. But they’re also terrified of everyone outside their social set, and they live in near-constant dread of being caught with even one original opinion.

In cleaning out the porch recently, I discovered multiple spider egg sacs on the bottom of one of my stools, so I set it out in the sun. They were still there today, accompanied by the biggest black widow spider I’ve ever seen. Since I’m not a squisher, I grabbed the nearest toxic substance at hand – lighter fluid for the barbecue pit.

I couldn’t hear any screaming from inside the egg sacs, but Mom seemed unperturbed. Dangit.

Went for the next thing I could lay my hands on – neem oil Seemed to wiss her off, possibly weaken her a bit, but still quite alive. Double dangit.

So I went inside and grabbed my trusty Wondercide. We had to buy this years ago when we got bedbugs (probably from Steve’s many car show trips with his mother – so many hotels!). The very ‘spensive stuff from the professional janitorial store we use had absolutely no effect on the bedbugs. (And trying to burn ’em out with high heat only made sit there with headphones one for six hours while the fire alarms were blaring.) The Wondercide worked instantaneously on the bedbugs. I could spray and watch them literally curl up and die. It was a beautiful, beautiful thing.

It works on spiders, too. Maybe Black Widder was already weakened by the superfund toxins I had forced on her, but the Wondercide had her deader’n doornails in less than a minute.

If you don’t have the stuff, get it. It’s nontoxic, can be used on pets and bedding, and works like magic. And no, I’m not getting paid for this ad.

The doctor asked if I had any questions, and I paused as I looked at the exam room walls papered with info and ads for managing diabetes. Finally, I just said “No.” I’m going to wait until my labs come back.

What would I have liked to have said? What may I say next time?

    • “What do you know about the link between vitamins D3 and K2?”
    • “If diabetes is known to be a problem with too much insulin, why would I take meds that would pump out MORE insulin?”
    • “How much nutrition education have you had as part of your medical training?”
    • “Will you offer me nutritional education in lieu of pills – actual advice that will reverse the insulin problem?”
    • “I’d rather treat the problem than manage symptoms.”

    Maybe next time.

They sure didn’t get any credit for firing him, should’ve kept him and hunkered through the storm like they had to anyway.

    Screw the Yankees.

Detroit is a young, scrappy group that haven’t been this far. And I like Hinch.
    I’m sticking with them.

Hassan Nasrallah’s son-in-law, Hassan Jafar Qassir, may have been killed in airstrikes in the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus on Wednesday, according to early reports published by Sky News Arabic.

Hassan is the brother of Muhammad Jafar Qassir, who was killed in a strike in Beirut on Wednesday [last week] the Iranian attack on Israel.

Hassan’s assassination is another severe blow to Hezbollah as its leadership has been slowly picked off in Israeli operations.
