The Slippery Slope to Tyranny: How Free Speech Is Under Siege

The recent declaration by London’s Metropolitan Police Chief Sir Mark Rowley, threatening both British and American citizens for merely commenting on the riots in England, is not just an abuse of power — it is an alarming assault on one of the most fundamental freedoms: the right to speak our minds. This action, under the guise of maintaining order, raises serious concerns about the erosion of free speech, not just in the U.K. but across the Western world.

The Slippery Slope to Tyranny

What we are witnessing is the very same slippery slope that has led to the rise of totalitarian regimes throughout history. When the government starts deciding what is “acceptable” and what is “unacceptable” speech, and when they begin labeling dissent as dangerous, we are well on the road to tyranny….

The anti-free speech policy being enforced by the U.K. authorities is not an isolated incident; it is part of a larger trend that is metastasizing, even in Washington, D.C. This growing intolerance toward differing opinions is slowly eroding the foundational principles that define free societies. It begins with silencing voices and ends with the oppression of entire populations.

/snip

The Power of Free Thought and Free Speech

At the heart of these oppressive regimes is a fear of free thought, free speech, and a free people. Totalitarian governments understand that the greatest threat to their power is an informed and vocal populace. That is why they go to such lengths to silence dissent.

The justifications being used today by the U.K. authorities are eerily similar to those used by the totalitarians of old. And disturbingly, they are the same justifications being employed by certain elected politicians in Washington….

A Call to Defend Freedom

When a government says, “We’re coming for you,” because you dare to voice an opinion, it’s not just a threat — it’s a declaration of war on freedom itself….

…The machinery of censorship and control is being built around us, brick by brick. It is up to us, as free citizens, to resist this encroachment on our liberties. We must defend our right to speak our minds, even when our opinions are unpopular or politically inconvenient. Because once that right is taken away, all other freedoms will inevitably follow.

The Path Forward

The battle for free speech is not just a political issue; it is a moral imperative. The right to express our thoughts and beliefs without fear of retribution is the cornerstone of a free society. Without it, democracy itself is at risk.

It’s Saturday and after all the work I’ve done this week I’m thinking of taking the day off but that remains to be seen. I have so much I need to do before Labor Day and it’s right around the corner.
We’ve been watching that crazy TV show, Northern Exposure a little and I’d forgotten that Maurice drove a beautiful old 60 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. I’d love to have that thing.
    SO with that, Mornin’ Gang

    First! Second!

Getting ready in a bit to o to my son’s, we are taking the motor over to a guy in Navasota that builds/repairs Dwarf Cars. He also does engine work, he will let us watch and learn. He wanted son to order a Haynes manual for it, looking through it we can remove shifting drum and forks without splitting the engine.case but I’m pretty sure we have gear issues on the main shafts. We will see.

Glad you’re able to watch Northern Exposure. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed it.
Maurice is such a great character.

Daughter Beth tells me that it was “appointment TV” for her and her Mom Fay, back in the day.

Maurice (Barry Corbin) is one of the greatest character actors ever and he always seems to play the same part. One of my favorite lines of his was when he was in that movie, War Games as a General and when a kid wanted to out smart the computer he said; “Hell I’d piss on a spark plug if I thought it would help” There are a lot of great characters on that show and most aren’t well known. I’ve not seen much of her lately but I kinda’ liked the old, curt Pig Phillips as Ruth Anne the General Store owner. One of the episodes had Ruth Anne taking a Road Trip on her Pan Head Harley. Also if I remember right Peg Phillips started her acting career at age 65 after she retired as an accountant.

When I read about Strzok and Page collecting $2 million on really thin claims, I wondered why in the world the DOJ settled with them on such a huge amount. Now we know. President Trump shut down this giant, secretive slush fund when he arrived in office, but Biden rescinded it immediately.

Kamala’s Brother-in-Law, Tony West, Steals Billions From US Taxpayers

Recently, the Department agreed to pay $2 million to FBI Agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page for releasing their anti-Trump texts to Congressional investigators worried about political bias.

The pair claimed a violation of the Privacy Act, but the messages were sent on their government-issue phones which contain clear banner warnings that users lack any reasonable expectation of privacy.

DOJ had ample basis to litigate this case to completion before surrendering hard earned tax dollars to the disgraced FBI agents.

    plus,

Until 1977, Congress had to approve any settlement of a civil suit against the Federal government over $100,000.

This preserved the Constitutional requirement that Congress control the government’s purse.

But in that year, seeking relief from the burgeoning volume of suits to review, Congress removed the cap, handing the Justice Department a permanent blank check to pay settlements unilaterally, in any amount, out of an account known as the Judgment Fund.

Congress spends so much time not controlling the purse strings (a constitutionally mandated task) that they have to outsource it. I think it is time to re-set the government to strict Constitutional boundaries. If the Constitution does not SPECIFICALLY permit it, that thing is forbidden. This would gut about 2/3 of the government and that is a very good thing.

Well, I’m back from my journey to the piney woods. I just wanted to get out of the condo, so I jumped in my car and took off. Along the way I found a dollar store with an extremely nice lady who helped me find things. I got one of their last beach balls, since I left mine at home. It may be too big, but I’m going to try to do some water exercises with it in a bit, in the pool that I think is all mine this afternoon. The front desk clerk assured me that the buildings at that pool are all empty; they’re not rent them out.

I went by the little farm I noticed on League Line Road. They didn’t have much beef left, but I scored some big porterhouse steaks and a roast, a big block of butter, and a couple dozen farm eggs. I asked about more beef, and I was told that maybe next week another steer would’ve been processed. So, I guess if I need more meat I’ll have to go to a regular grocery store.

While I was out, one of the two kitchen issues was fixed. The dishwasher no longer tilts out when I open the door, but the two stove burners still won’t come on. I told the front desk those weren’t urgent, I probably wasn’t going to need more than two burners anyway.

This place uses wristbands with the door key cards on the band. They really come in handy instead of fishing around in pockets or worrying about losing one as I meander around the grounds. And they’re waterproof, so I can wear it in the pool and not worry about someone walking off with access to my room.

I surprised myself on my drive. I wasn’t planning my travels, just going where the whims took me. I was coming around part of Lake Conroe and took a left turn into some trees. I was surprised when about 50 feet in the pavement ended and the road became a one lane gravel road going through the Sam Houston National Forest. In my little car I slowed down to about 20 mph or else I felt totally rattled, but four pickup trucks blew by me as if the road were paved. Everyone was nice, though, and we all pulled over for each other. A jeep actually pulled over about a quarter mile down when he saw me. He’d found a good spot to pull over and was very patient as I crawled past him.

There are some very nice people out there. Keeps me from getting too cynical about this world.

I did enjoy the drive. Hubby and I both find driving relaxing and fun. It’s not the destination alone, it’s the getting there as well.

THE WEEK IN PICTURES: DEJA OBAMAVU ALL OVER AGAIN

Democrats think they’re recaptured the Beatlemania cultural sensation that surrounded Obama’s arrival and triumph in 2008. But all the media exertions and messaging (Joy! Vibes! Forward! New Shep Fairley poster!) have managed to do is recreate The Monkees, the pre-fab four intended to be another pop culture sensation. In other words, if Obama could be said to be Paul McCartney and John Lennon, Kamala Harris is Mickey Dolenz and Peter Tork. And I’m not a believer! It’s almost weird they would try this.

I guess it’s not too late for the C&C, since no one else has mentioned it:

Mr. C. focused The Big News from yesterday, the RFK endorsement:

By comparison, the New York Times ran yesterday’s dumbest, least informative headline, “After a Big Week for Democrats, One Good Day for Trump.” The article’s sub-headline seethed with passive-aggressive rage: “Former President Donald J. Trump talked policy in Las Vegas and seemed almost chipper.”

… President Trump frustrated the far-left by appearing almost chipper.

…Trump has not had three very bad weeks in August. Rather, he’s been holding back,… and conserving ammo while waiting for Kamala’s nomination to lock in. If Trump was chipper yesterday, it was likely because he can finally return to doing what he does best.

    /snip

… Once again, political prognosticators have been forced to wipe down the dry-erase board and start over. As you almost certainly know, yesterday Trump and Kennedy joined forces, puncturing Kamala’s post-convention poll bounce and, once again, scrambling the 2024 political calculus.

But the truth was, the Trump-Kennedy combination is a lot more than a wrinkle, fold, crumple, or even a spindle (whatever that is). Kamalot looks further away than ever.

… just like a high-school mean girl, the Times condescendingly described the historic unity ticket as Trump having “managed to make a new friend.”

They missed everything. I’m not even sure it was on purpose. They are blinded by incurable Trump Derangement Syndrome, a painful variant of sexually transmitted river blindness that can’t be treated with Ivermectin.

Mr. C. makes a point that I’ve made to folks: Trump is a great negotiator, and that skill is invaluable one the international scale. The cackle of the Cackler is a tell that would mean decimation to us and our allies at the international poker table. He also mentioned Trump’s ability to confiscate the news cycle.

  15. Tedtam Avatar
    Tedtam

    From the C&C:

Kennedy’s timeline yesterday had three small Acts of its own. First, Kennedy gave a live online address explaining his decision. Then, his family published an angry statement condemning him for supporting President Trump. Finally, Kennedy joined President Trump on stage in Arizona at the rally. I cannot recommend this strongly enough: don’t read summaries. Don’t check for clips. Listen to Kennedy’s entire speech yourself:

CLIP: Kennedy’s Live Address to the Nation (begins at 41:00) (1:29:59).

Mr. Childers compares it to the “best speeches of the modern era,” which unmasked the current political system failures and exposed its ugly underbelly to a public that probably would rather keep the wool over their eyes. It’s less painful to be ignorant than to be concerned.

…You cannot listen to Kennedy’s speech without being changed forever, for better or worse. The media, not surprisingly, did its best to suppress, obscure, and distract from what may become the most influential American speech in a generation….”

    True dat.

And then he makes these points:

I’ll say this about it: Kennedy raged about America’s poor health in a way that, if people would spend five seconds thinking about it, we would throw out the entire government and start over. Science, especially medical science, has failed. Americans are fatter, sicker, and crazier than ever. We get worse health outcomes than any other developed country and even worse than much of the third world.

When will we do something about that?

Health tourism proves that what’s killing us is not capitalism. Free markets produce better, cheaper products, including medical treatments. Our real problem is liberalism and its pet, big government. The problem with science these days is that, if you cut science open, you’d find it riddled with parasitic politics and infected with virus-like strings attached to government money.

There’s almost no ‘science’ left. The failing body of science is mostly just metastasized politics.

And I agree with that. While my GP has expressed concerns about my diabetes, his approach has never been to counsel me on diet. All I’ve heard is “metformin”. With everything I alone have learned over the past five or ten years, I remain flabbergasted that he hasn’t learned the same.

But there’s no money in “eat this, don’t eat that”. Not like “here’s a prescription for a Big Pharma pill”.

Mr. C. closes his column with a discussion about how RFK not totally dropping out of the race makes it harder to cheat. I don’t know that I follow his logic, but it’s an interesting idea.

Remember: Trump is polling 4-5% higher than he was in 2020, statistically even with Harris, and in both 2016 and 2020 he ended up getting 5% more votes than the polls showed. I think even after the DNC convention, this is Trump’s election to lose. Trump guru, David Axelrod, said the same thing.

The term “Roger that” is a widespread term for confirmation, either between truckers on their CB radios, kids playing back and forth with walkie-talkies, or even face to face. But it’s easy to adopt the phrase and understand what it means without ever really knowing where it came from. So here’s a (very) brief history for your edification.

“Roger” comes from the phonetic alphabet used by military and aviation personnel during WWII, when the use of two-way radios became a main form of communication and operators need crystal clear ways to spell things out with no room for misinterpretation. You may be familiar with the current NATO version of the phonetic alphabet (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.), where the the word for “R” is Romeo, but before that standard was adopted in 1957, the words were a bit different, and the word for “R” was “Roger.”

Despite Dr Phil Good’s relentless crusade to have Greg Abbott lynched right there on the lawn at Congress Ave. and 11th Street in front of the Capitol, the Governor has been an international inspiration.

Several years ago, Texas had a brilliant idea: take the millions of illegal immigrant that were flooding its territory as a result of policies adopted in faraway places like DC, and bus them to places like New York and DC, other so-called sanctuary cities and, best of all, Martha’s Vineyard where those who run New York and DC tend to go on vacation. The result was an immediate revulsion by the false virtue-signaling NIMBY crowd, which cried foul at having to suffer the consequences of its actions.

Turns out Texas’ idea was so good it is now being adopted across the Atlantic, where another illegal alien invasion has been taking place for the past decade, slowly replacing the indigenous population with millions of immigrants from northern Africa and the middle east.

Now, one European country has decided it also has had enough: Hungary suggested that it might – like Texas – start transporting migrants who show up at its border straight to Brussels, unless it can resolve a dispute with the European Union on penalties for its asylum policies, Bloomberg reported.

Well, I didn’t get alone time at the pool, but I did meet some nice folks (who work here at the resort and knew about this little pool in the back) and their two little girls. The first one, Vera, saw me blowing up my beach ball that I was going to use for my water exercise and her eyes lit up expectantly. Her mom gave the okay and we had the best time bopping that ball back and forth. She was quite a trip. Then her friend Evelyn joined us, and the three of us played awhile, then I let them play together while I took the short trip across the pool. I could hear Vera yelling to me “Get the ball!” Her folks had already told me that I was big enough “to take them both on,” so I knew they had a sense of humor. I yelled back “I’ll get it when I’m ready, I’m not your ball slave!” The parents cracked up laughing. I took two more strokes to the end of the pool, turned around, and got the ball for Vera.

I did get some swimming in, played with little kids, made some new friends, and had nice conversation. It wasn’t “me time” but it was quality time.

How did I miss this?! Over yonder I stumbled across a picture of an Evinrude Lark boat and motor. For you folks in Rio Linda, Evinrude has been using the Lark name on it’s outboards for years but only used it on boats for a few years in the 60’s or so I thought. Apparently in 1956 they came out with a Concept “Dream Boat” complete with Caddy like fins. But sadly they were ridiculously expensive so they didn’t catch on.

The Lark was an $11,000 custom-built boat powered by Evinrude’s 30-h.p. outboard motor capable of speeds up to 35 m.p.h. The large rear fins housed retractable water-skiing ropes. Two bubble type aircraft-inspired windshields replaced the traditional wrap-around windshield. There was an aircraft style yoke for steering and electric-starting controls were mounted in the instrument panel. Two contoured, crash-padded bucket seats were positioned in the cockpit at amidships. This was alike to the ergonomics of the sports car. He brought together space age aircraft elements, newer auto style interiors, and exterior fins.

    But reality hits;

While only two Lark boats were built as show concept boats, the Cadillac Boat Company of Cadillac Michigan was given the rights to the Lark’s prototype design and they produced three similar vessels labeled the “Cadillac Sea Lark.” However, the boats proved more expensive to build than expected. The “Lark” series of small boats never went into mass production. Other small boat builders such as Glastron, however, successfully manufactured many vessels with tailfins and other stylish crossover elements from the very successful automotive designs of the same period. Since only a handful of Larks were built, the Lark really was a “dreamboat” – unobtainable.

I disagree with Bobby Kennedy on most things, but the way his family has acted towards him is a national embarrassment. I posted John Podhoretz’s comment last night. Here is the most scathing response to the Kennedy clan yet. Tammy Bruce wrote this on X and I’m posting the whole thing.

An open letter to Kerry Kennedy:

You people are awful. Despite your family’s checkered past and horrible behavior of so many of the men, Americans have stood with you out of loyalty, sentimentality, and too often, grief. Despite the questionable establishment of your family’s wealth, the treatment of Marilyn Monroe, the general womanizing, the abandonment of Mary Jo Kopechne to her death, allegations of rape, one could go on and on, but the point is your family has stayed loyal and protective of family members who have done the most appalling of things. But the moment one of your own acts on his conscience for this country you attempt to throw him to the wolves and publicly condemn him. Never a word for the trail of abused or abandoned women left behind by a Kennedy, but because one of your men supports Trump in an effort to make the lives of Americans better, that alone is beyond the pale. In your ugly treatment of your brother you reveal the rot that has broken the hearts of the American people so many times over the years. Beyond that, the economic destruction of American families is something your family would never truly understand. You are not touched by the worry about having enough gas to get to work, or whether or not you can afford eggs this week, if you’ll be safe walking your own neighborhood, or if your child will be safe in their urban public school or even if they will know how to read and write while collecting their diploma. You keep doing civil rights work and public service virtue signaling. But in the meantime, make a pledge to not keep doing damage as Americans are simply looking for a way to reclaim their own futures, the safety of their families, and knowing that maybe, just maybe, they can leave their children a little better off w a future they can rely on. The condition of this country should shock everyone, even if their name is Kennedy. We know it at least shocks one of you who, like us, has had enough of the fear and hopelessness assigned to us for generations. Americans are happy to see Bobby on our side as we refuse to comply and will not go gentle into the catastrophes to which we are expected to succumb. Instead, with Trump and all who join us, we will fight, fight, fight!

He is expected to appear before a judge on Sunday on charges connected to terrorism, narcotics, complicity, fraud, money laundering, receiving stolen goods and child pornography, according to TF1.

“Pavel Durov will end up in pretrial detention, that’s for sure ,” an investigator familiar with the case told TF1.

“On his platform, he allowed an incalculable number of offenses and crimes to be committed, for which he did nothing to moderate or cooperate, ” the source added.

My houseguests have all left and are headed west back to Martindale and Kerrville.
A grand time was had by all last night. It was nice to go to worship with the grandson and his wife. Then we headed to the craft brewery on the square for nice beer. We only had two no-shows, so fifteen of us converged on the restaurant on the other of the square at 8pm for a fine gourmet supper. We of course closed the place down.
A very special night made even more spectacular by the news that the guests-of-honor are pregnant and I’ll have one more great-grand baby in late April.
What a blessed weekend. Thank you Lord.

Can you imagine the FBI arresting the CEOs of T-Mobile and Verizon for an “an incalculable number of offenses” because criminals and thugs used their cellular services to commit crimes ?

    yes.
because they arrested little old grandmas for trespassing on j6.

I can imagine them arresting anyone for anything they don’t like.

if it doesn’t fit in the cell you will sit.

    they’ve gone rogue, Chief.

Yesterday I was heading down the gravel road towards the Harris place and saw a Timber rattler crossing the road so I racked a high brass #6 shot into the old Mossberg pump and blew the snakes head smooth off. It landed 14 yards away on the road. if you look close in the second picture you can see he is headless. FWIW; I used to catch and relocate these guys but we have so dang many of them, I’ve been murdering them for a coupe of years now. Growing up this was all farmland with few trees and you never saw a Timber Rattler only Diamondbacks. Now that all the land is grown up in trees, I see Timber rattlers much more often than Diamondbacks. Oh and he had only 4 rattles and a button. The last one had twelve.

Well I got the pool all to myself today. No families, no kids, so I got to do my water exercises and my very short laps back and forth across the little pool. But it’s so nice and quiet, and now I’m out and I’m drying off, enjoying the breeze and the pine trees and the sunshine. I brought my Latin book with me, so I’ll be rereading some chapters, since I need to reinforce stuff I have forgotten so far. But it’s a beautiful day up here in Conroe.

And a miracle happened this morning. I had looked up mass times for the nearest traditional Latin church, which is about an hour away. I’m normally not a morning person, but this morning my eyes popped open at 5:30, which gave me time to get to the first mass of the day at that church. Miracles still do happen.

Hubby called. He towed his new car to the car show using his work truck that he just rebuilt. Truck’s been running like a champ until today. Now it won’t start, and he’s waiting for a tow truck to take him to a motel for the night. He thinks it’s a fuel pump. At least if necessary he can unload his show car to drive it to the auto parts place to get replacement parts. But there’s a small chance I may have to leave Conroe and drive to Oklahoma to help him out. The life of a married woman.

This is from the fascinating and often daunting website of the Ethical Skeptic. He’s a former Naval officer, high-ranking Naval Intelligence officer and engineer. He writes over my head sometimes, but he is an interesting man.

He confirms what I saw over several years. Every hospital in the US was claiming every death – motorcycle accidents, overdoses, heart failures – as a Covid death to collect the Fauci free money on each casualty under their care.

When the hysteria died down and people began to realize vaccinated and boostered people, young people and athletes were dropping dead from Pfizer/Moderna injections everything changed. The word percolated down from DC and Atlanta to start classifying deaths due to cancer and myocardial diseases as Alzheimers and stroke or something else. Lie on the death certificates so we can avoid scrutiny over the horrible excess death rates due to the poison the National Institutes of Health, FDA and CDC forced on Americans.

From the death of a vaxxed/boostered member of his own family comes this story: A Case Study in Covid-19 Vaccine Related Death Certificate Fraud.

As previously mentioned on X, and as many of my readers are aware, since January 2023, we have experienced the loss of nine ten of our family members (Aunt/Uncle/First Cousin or closer to myself/spouse – just had another cancer death since the posting of this article). These losses, all associated with or caused by cancer, occurred among individuals aged 70 and above. Among them, all nine ten were Covid-19 mRNA vaccinated and boosted, two were undergoing stroke rehabilitation, and in one instance, the cancer had been in remission for a decade. However, to provide context, over the past 60 years, that same family grouping (factoring in generational turnover) has only encountered three cases of cancer, with just one resulting in death after a prolonged battle (prostate cancer). Cardiovascular and heart diseases have been more of the key issue inside our lineages.

    after the relative died…

When the death certificate arrived this week from the state, as crafted by the hospice palliative care physician (who had never even seen her – remember, these people determine the greatest preponderance of ’cause of death’ calls), the Immediate and Underlying (and a fortiori Multiple) Cause of Death only had one ICD code listed: “Alzheimer’s Disease”. The malady was not even titled correctly: G30 (Alzheimer disease). Apparently, for a cancer diagnosis one must bring definitive proof, but for an ad hoc explanation one does not need proof at all, nay even a hint. You just merely fabricate the answer your state medical board enforces.

She never had, nor was diagnosed with, nor was even suspected of having Alzheimer Disease. She was sharp minded and functional up until mere days before she died.

This is how fake science works. The answer you do not like must bring irrefutable proof. The answer you prefer does not have to provide any evidence whatsoever, and is true until proven otherwise (wink-wink, nudge-nudge).

But some of the blacks in Chicago get it.

    Video of interviews link.

“Well, the neighbors, the neighborhood didn’t want them (illegals). The residents, the citizens, we pushed back, but the deal was already done.”

“And so they were bringing in a lot of military-age men into the community. I mean, we’re not blind, we’re not stupid, we’re not obtuse. We know what’s going on.”

She continued, “But unfortunately, the people who run this city, they don’t care what the people think. So they started putting them into quiet residential neighborhoods… We don’t want them here. The crime rate has gone up since they have been here…. Nobody wants to talk about it, but we live it every day.”

/snip – discussion of the lack of policy on the open border

“Everybody can come here. Listen, people live in their homes. You have a home, or you have an apartment. Do you have a front door on your home?” she asks.

    Barnes replies, “Yes, I do.

She continues, “Do you have a back door?”

    “Yes, I do,” he replies.

    “Are you locked?”

    “They’re locked.”

Are you locking because you’re racist?

    “No.”

    “You’re locking because…..”

“I’m protecting my four children that I have at home,” he states.

“Exactly. Same thing with our borders, okay? It has nothing to do with racism. We have to protect our sovereignty. We have to protect the citizens here. We have to protect our homeland. And so we have to close those borders. By any means necessary.”

“Building a wall is an excellent idea. Look at the DNC Convention. They built all kinds of walls of security. …. when it comes to them, it’s always a hypocrisy built into it.”

A different Numbers USA reporter asks another resident, “When you think about what’s going on…what are three words that come to mind for you?”

The resident replies, “Very, very angry.”

    /snip

“It’s all by design. It’s deliberate. The Democratic Party realizes that the black vote is dwindling because the Democratic Party has not delivered for the Black community…”

“So what do they do? They go around the world and they open up these borders …You let them come into cities like Chicago. You let them come into cities where there’s a large black population.”

“Now, they’re all over the city of Chicago, but the majority of them now in … poor neighborhoods, neighborhoods that are struggling, that have been struggling for a long, long time. So you bring these people… they put them in a hotel, literally right across the street from me, they’re paying no rent. Their food is being provided for. They don’t even make their beds. They have a maid to go and make their beds every day. How do I know? Because I live on 25th floor, and I can look right down on that hotel every day, every night, and I see what’s going on.”

There’s a lot of seething going on in Chicago.
