From the LA Times:

In this crazy election year, the tea partyers have shown surprising strength. But the internal contradictions are so numerous, it’s hard to see how their influence will last.

From the Wall Street Journal:

Those who doubt that the failings of higher education in America have political consequences need only reflect on the quality of progressive commentary on the tea party movement. Our universities have produced two generations of highly educated people who seem unable to recognize the spirited defense of fundamental American principles, even when it takes place for more than a year and a half right in front of their noses.

Had a GREAT time at the No-Brew-Ha-Ha and I have no need to blackmail Katfish because I believe I know who the 3.5 women are? Wild horses couldn’t get the answer out of me. 🙂 I am looking forward to the next gathering and we will have to “™” tedtam’s nickname she called the gathering at the park today. The… Read more »

Left this on the no Brew Ha-Ha thread also: Sorry I didn’t make it. Y’all came in second on the priority list. Woke up this morning to a fencing issue that left me a choice to fix NOW or come to the shindig and possibly loose mares and next years breedings to coyotes. Just got finished here at dusk so… Read more »

Back from Bear Creek Park and a lovely Sunday afternoon getting to know nice folks in person. Conversing through the ethernet and then live face to face was delightful. Bob24 did not doctor the brownies. They were very good, and if anything outside the recipe was added I would have felt it and likely would have needed someone to drive… Read more »

Howdy Y’All. The no-brew ha ha ha was fun and l am looking forward to the next one. I think that at Bear Creek we can have beer but I am not sure; for me it doesn’t matter much as I rarely consume alcohol anymore.

Adee, I enjoyed your story about pumpkin vines growing in the compost pile. Reminded me of when I used to buy ornamental gourds every fall and then try my darndest to have them dry out without decaying. A dried gourd is a forever gourd! But some always rot and get pitched into the compost where the seeds easily germinate the… Read more »

I didn’t feel sorry for the thief who got a pipe shampoo. I simply said it is wrong to beat the crap out of a detained criminal unless he doesn’t want to wait around till the cops get there.

G’Sunday morning all Y’all have a good time cooking and conversing today. Wish I could be there. On another note from my temporary perch in NY. He he he, Wisconsin drubbed Ohio State 31-18 today. Played in Madison, and I bet the cheering could be heard all over town. Guess the Buckeyes can kiss #1 ranking goodbye and the Badgers can rise in the rankings. Ohio State is the team we’ve loved to hate ever since the bad old days of Woody Hayes.

Another account of my thesis above, although not involving a beat-down with a pipe in an alley. The story of an upper middle class couple who always played by the rules. bobby; I already hit the most important, and pertinent aspects of the issue.. The government’s WOF is a failure. It’s wasting billions as fraud is still rampant despite government’s heavy-handed tactics. So the only course we as a society have at our disposal is to legalize fraud. We should no longer let politicians use their authoritah just to get elected.… Read more »

Florida Senatorial candidate Marco Rubio (R) doesn‘t care about his Hispanic heritage because he’s taken a tough immigration stance. That’s what Independent candidate, former Republican, and current Florida governor Charlie Crist seemed to suggested during a three-person debate Friday night. Not surprisingly, Rubio didn’t appreciate the suggestion.

What a slimy schmuck Crist is.

none of what you said matters. The point is that if a government war, such as WOF, is a failure, then we should legalize what tey are trying to combat.

It may have been illegal, but it may also have been deserved, which has been my point. Just like if I insult someone’s wife at a bar and the husband decides I need a good, stiff punch in the jaw. About the pipe beat-down — consider that if the police had arrived and beat the perp with a pipe, they would be in trouble. How then can anyone say the employee was justified in the beating as described? The story did not say the thief was about to get away or threatened the employee detaining him. I don’t see any… Read more »

Angela Merkel getting it right.

Mrs Merkel stressed that immigrants living in Germany needed to do more to integrate, including learning to speak German.

“Anyone who does not immediately speak German”, she said, “is not welcome”.

#35 That sort of nonsense was rampant in Austin when I lived there back in the 70’s. It led to Barton Springs, the most popular swimmin’ hole in town, becoming top-optional during that time. #35 WB, fwiw there are currently no laws in Texas prohibiting people (including females) from being topless. The same is true in many other states, including New Hampshire, where a native Texan named Cassidy was “busted” by the local constabulary the first time she walked down the street topless (and with a handgun strapped around her waist.) #18 Darren, with all due respect, this is not a well thought out question. Pretty despicable. More despicableness. I just found out that my brother’s wife is Muslim. I knew she was from Turkey, but she doesn’t dress or act Muslim.
