The world needs more people like David Thorne in the workplace.
Apparently after receiving three, you are meant to have some kind of formal meeting between the parties involved but this never happened. According to the rules, if there are five complaints, an external mediator has to be bought in. This didn’t happen either and I was quite disappointed.
Poor Simon also found out how creative Mr. Thorne can be with Justin Bieber.

I’m watching the cooking shows, and it still amazes me:
“Just a little bit of butter” – as he throws in two huge chunks of butter.
“Just a touch of olive oil” – as he thoroughly coats the fish filets
“Just a tad bit of salt” – and throws at least a handful of salt into the pot
I guess my idea of “little bit,” “touch,” and “tad” need revision. I guess cooking schools use different size measuring cups or something.

Where’s my FEMA card? We should all be entitled to a $2000 FEMA debit card just for being subjected to all the hype for the past week or so. Think about it – if Obama were to pass out a bunch of FEMA cards then maybe everyone would believe that the situation is more serious that it actually is. When you break into/onto someone’s property with the obvious intent to steal, you take your life in your own hands. IF more property owners would follow suit, the VSRs would, perhaps, think of a better way to support their drug habit or wissin quit and be a productive citizen. I kind of look at as “suicide by wissed off property owner”.
If you can kill someone over a material item, I truly feel sorry for you. I personally feel there is nothing material on the planet that is worth the cost of a human life. Taking a life is a serious thing, and something that can’t be undone. I personally believe that killing a thief, merely because he is a thief, means that we have made it impossible for that person to repent his sin and turn his life and soul to Christ for redemption and rebirth.
Deadly force should only be applied when your life, or the lives of others are in danger. Morally, we are obligated to save lives, even if it means taking another life to prevent that from happening.
As to jumping over the fence:
Corbin testified he saw two armed men charge out of a building and run in their direction, one of them shouting “we’re gonna get you” in an obscenity-laced threat. Corbin, who escaped by climbing over a car and jumping a fence, said he felt a bullet pass by him as someone fired four gunshots.
Fox was standing inside a small shed when a .45-caliber rifle bullet passed through the shed’s door and pierced his heart.
The property owner was shooting at a man outside the fence, endangering lives of innocent people. He shot wildly and irresponsibly and thus displayed a willful disregard for any human life, not just those of the perpetrators. Shooting through a door only underlines that fact.
Furthermore, they attempted to conceal evidence:
Milanovic and his father told police a week before the shooting they would shoot any intruders who returned. Police say the men concealed the rifle in the trunk of a car so well that a police detective initially missed it during a search.

Removing a skunk from a shed without waiting for the animal control folks might be the thing to do under the circumstances. Doing the right thing may not always be the legal thing – but we then have to place our trust in our fellows to sort out the wheat from the chaff and administer justice in an appropriate manner.

There is a legal and moral standard we, as a society, impose to insure the safety of innocents. A .45 caliber slug fired from a carbine length barrel is lethal for over a mile. One assumes that even in the dead of night there are cars on roadways and houses with sleeping people in them within that range if fired from any inhabited location. The same standard of safety that applies at a shooting range should also apply at junkyards, and rifle ranges are generally located in much less populated areas.

Well it was a bordering on unpleasant 77 this morning at 6 with some ground mist, and it looked to becoming miserable when about 10 the wind picked up out of the NE briefly and on to the NW and finally settled on SW. At first it was coolish because it was dry, but as the humidity tanked (28%) the air got steadily hotter, and it is not pleasant now. The weather folks said this would happen thanks to Irene’s moving northward up the Atlantic coast and dragging dry air in the middle of the country down our way. It will be blistering here today.
Last I heard yesterday from a real meterologist, not someone who plays one on TV, on Sean Hannity’s radio program is the concern that Irene is behaving like Ike did. A worrisome part is the storm surge, and few of the weather folks are saying much about that–or at least were yesterday. Also a major concern is the effect of its winds accelerating among the canyons of tall buildings as happened in downtown Houston when Ike shattered windows. We thought that problem was fixed after Alicia’s winds tore gravel off rooftops and hurled it into windows, and the gravel was replaced with solid surfacing. Not so as we learned when Ike came along. Will be interesting to see what happens with Irene in cities with tall buildings.
Have missed the hysteria thus far by not turning on the radio or TV yet. 🙂

I looked a little deeper into the shooting. Most people should do this kind of research before coming to a conclusion. I am even more of the impression that the property owner was not only in the wrong, but guilty of waiting in ambush with an intent to do harm.

The 145-page report paints a tense – and occasionally combative – account of police interviews after the April 19 shooting, as detectives sought to resolve inconsistencies in the men’s stories. Milanovic clung to the position that he did nothing wrong, even as he acknowledged lying about key details and admitted that he played a role in hiding the military-style carbine rifle he used to fire the fatal shot.
His father, Ljuban Milanovic, told officers that at least one of the burglars was armed and fired first during the encounter. No one corroborated that claim, and detectives found no evidence to support it.

Daughter came by today because she was in the Clear Lake area for a party last night, it was good to see her and Hubby. Last night she texed me this; “That’s where you want to go,…Way down in Kokomo,…Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I want to take ya,….Way down in Kokomo.” I was puzzled @ first and called her. She said that she had got bored with the bland conversation and then this song came on, one that I used to sing to her @ bedtime when she was small. It just don’t get no better than that. 😀

Nesler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, but her 10-year sentence was later overturned because of jury misconduct. She cut a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to manslaughter and get out after serving three years because she had breast cancer.
There is NO WAY a decient human being could convict this lady! In this country you are tried by a jury of your peers and they are not only to judge the crime, but also the law. Don’t ever let a Judge tell you that you can’t judge the law. Oh, and if you want to get thrown off a jury panel real fast,…ask what “Jury Nullification” is?

I weep when I see the over blown macho rhetoric of some of these tacticool wannabes who think that crime can be solved through vigilante justice. There isn’t a stereo or a car out there that is worth a human life—-even a meth addled one.
Life taking is serious business, but you wouldn’t beleive it reading some of the blog comments I’ve seen in researching this story. I am more alarmed at what that says about the state of our society than I am at the rate of stereo thefts in used car lots. Like the poor, thieves will always be with us, and its not because we don’t kill them for thier crimes.
Even soldiers in combat have rules. Even they don’t get to decide at their whim who dies and who does not, and if they don’t follow those rules, they go to jail. Legally, we make those decisions based on the collective wisdom of the People, exercised through the Judicial and Legislative branches of government, and we decided long ago that theivery never rises to a level sufficient to take the life of the perpetrator. If we as a Society have decided that the State does not have that power, we surely should not grant it to individuals. Morally, it is wrong to take a life unless your life, or the life of another, is in danger.
This man was wrong. In countless blog postings of this story, this one, and several that cater to pressionsals and concealed carry advocates, are the only ones where I have seen anyone post the actual facts. The business owner expressed an intent to shoot someone. He obtained a weapon that was far beyond the needs of self defense. He fired that weapon irresponsibly through a fence, and into the body of a man hiding in a 6′ x 9′ wooden shed behind a closed door. He waited 10 minutes to call for help of ANY kind, let alone medical help for his victim. He hid the weapon and lied about the circumstances of the shooting. He changed his story again during the civil trial, claiming it was an accident. Nobody with a clear conscience lies that much. Nobody who knows he did the right thing does that.

I thought Colorado Springs was a liberal town in a liberal state, so my preconceived notion was not upheld in the comments. Now the news about the jury award has gone national so the comments are coming from a wider audience.

Now if they were to escape and then they repent of their evil, wicked ways and restore that which they obtained by criminality, then the victim (the car lot owner) should forgive them because he has been “restored”. Is it reasonable for the govt to give the death penalty for theft via the court system – no; is it reasonable for the property owner to take the life of the thief in the act of stealing his property – yes. If more thieves understood this concept there would likely be a lot less thievery taking place. Does this mean that I think that a 10 year old kid should be executed by the store owner for shoplifting a pack of twinkies – of course not; the store owner needs to apprehend the kid and call the police and the kids parents. If a big deal is made on the little stuff in the beginning, the problem usually gets handled then and the bad behavior is stopped before it escalates into the bigger stuff.
I am not excusing the potential irresponsible behavior of reckless discharge of the firearm and I am darn sure not about to give the VSR thieves a free pass because they got shot and at. I would be willing to bet that the VSR that did not get shot will prolly change his ways because he saw the bad consequences of his behavior, his friend got killed and he almost did as well. Sometimes it takes looking death in the face to get your attention. It will be very interesting to follow this current day VSR and see if he changes his ways and becomes a responsible and productive citizen.

I am having a more and more difficult time rationalizing capital punishment for any crime whatsoever, even when our system of jurisprudence is scrupulously followed.

So precious, in fact, that each soul is of equal value to God, regardless of what we as imperfect humans choose to do with our lives. All human life is precious from the moment of conception to the naturally-occurring death.
Every person ever born has a kernel of the Holy Spirit dwelling within his soul. Some choose to nourish and care for that kernel; others try to bury it. Total non sequitur. It’s the middle of the night. An intruder has come over the fence and darted into the shed on your property. How could you possibly know what type of weapons the thief brought with him? Now it turns out that he only had knives on him. But you would not know that. Nor would you know exactly where he is in the shed if you fire at the structure. Lacking Xray vision, you do not know that if you fire at the door, you will hit him in the chest because that happens to be where he was standing.
The point is you DON’T know. You have to have reasonable and prudent knowledge of a fatal threat against your person or another person in order to exercise lethal force.
The owner originally claimed that he HAD been shot at. Then he claimed that he had fired only one shot from a 9mm pistol, not a mag dump from a .45 semi auto. Then he hid the weapon.
I suggest those are the acts of a man who just shot someone he knew was not a threat to him.
I’ll also point out that the reports state that the lethal wound entered his lower left chest and exited tthrough his right collar bone. Thats not a wound one gets when attacking someone. Put your a finger on your left hand on any spot in your lower left chest, and one from your right hand on your right collar bone and you’ll see what I mean.

After following Silva around for the first two minutes of the first round, Okami (32-6, 10-3 UFC) worked the clinch for almost two minutes. Silva never wilted and looked plenty strong enough to deal with the ground-and-pound specialist. Once the fighters separated, the end of the first provided a preview of things to come.
Silva closed the round by landing a nasty head kick. Okami stumbled backwards and ate a knee at the close of the round. When Silva came out for the second, he meant business. He charged forward throwing from different angles. After a minute of that, he backed up and basically put his hands at his side, daring Okami to hit him. Okami took the bait. Instead of charging forward and attempting a takedown, Okami threw some sloppy punches.

I finally read the list of complaints against David Thorne. This is nothing but THorne being a wissin bully. I would have taken more dramatic steps much earlier in the process and stopped this crapola in the bud.
It also serves as an excellent example as to what happens when people stop standing up for themselves and defer to “the authorities”. Had the wimp Simon, after the first one or two incidents simply confronted Thorne and made it clear that the behavior would not be tolerated and that he would be in extreme pain if it continued; it would have likely stopped. Instead, he “went through channels” and nothing was ever done. Kind of like telling the cops you have been repeatedly burglarized, they tell you to file a report and nothing changes except the value of your investment. I wonder if someone who competes with Gibson, bribed a higher up at that agency in order to gain advantage?? You know how it is, follow the money and you usually get to the source of the misbehavior.

Spouse just returned from errands in Richmond and reports the car thermometer was reading between 102 and 104 on the roads coming home. Thermometer on the anemometer pole in the back yard is sliding into shade but stays at 108 as it was in full sun. Just going outside briefly to move the sprinkler to another flowerbed is a miserable chore.
The fountain was down 2 gallons this morning, and the small tank in the side pasture was down about 1/3 overnight. The mares could not have been the sole customers as they are in the barn at night and have a larger tank available in another pasture. Some crows are playing in the sprinkler in the front yard, and Mariposa is watching them from the living room windowsill. She hasn’t shown any interest in going outside. Smart kitty.
Spouse just returned from errands in Richmond and reports the car thermometer was reading between 102 and 104 on the roads coming home. Thermometer on the anemometer pole in the back yard is sliding into shade but stays at 108 as it was in full sun. Just going outside briefly to move the sprinkler to another flowerbed is a miserable chore.
The fountain was down 2 gallons this morning, and the small tank in the side pasture was down about 1/3 overnight. The mares could not have been the sole customers as they are in the barn at night and have a larger tank available in another pasture. Some crows are playing in the sprinkler in the front yard, and Mariposa is watching them from the living room windowsill. She hasn’t shown any interest in going outside. Smart kitty.

“If the White House and the operatives in the White House — on Mr. Cheney’s staff and elsewhere in the White House — had been as forthcoming with the FBI as Mr. Armitage was, this problem would not have reached the dimensions that it reached,” Powell said.
Instead, Powell said, the FBI continued for two more months trying to find out what had happened in the White House and that a special counsel ended up conducting a two-year probe of what he called a “mess.”
As I recall, Elliot Spitzer knew all along (or within 1 week of opening) the investigation that Richard Armitage was the leak and that Scooter Libby did not have anything to do with it; why then did he continue to “investigate” Libby when he knew the source of the non-leak??? It was a witch-hunt from the beginning to tarnish the Bush admin and any reasonable look at the situation should lead one to the same conclusion. If Powell knew, why the wiss did he not simply go on air and let it out so that the merciless persecution of Libby could have been avoided??

Well, I had a great day, since it was soo hot, I decided that I would load up the 100 rounds of 44’s that have been in the tumbler since the end of May. I went upstairs and started cleaning the primer pockets. My wife came up and asked me, “why don’t we go over to Bolivar and see how much of it has been rebuilt”?
I told her that it was awful hot and I have been wanting to do this for weeks. After a little while I thought about the fact that we don’t seem to do things together as much as we used to so I said “let’s go”. We headed up 146 to I-10 and over to Wallisville, then down to Anahuac, then down to the Wildlife Refuge where we saw a few Gators and lots of waterfowl. Next we headed over to High Island and then to Gilchrist. Driving down the beach from Gilchrist to Crystal Beach we saw hundreds of Brown Pelicans feeding just off shore! Now I know where to surf fish. I’ve never seen that many in that area before, but it has been years since we’ve been there. We came out and went by where our old cabin used to be, nothing but a concrete slab and a motor home. We sure had a great time there when the kids were small. Usually 2-3 couples and 5-7 kids. Next we crossed over on the Ferry, 3 boats, no waiting. I can remember waiting over 2 hours when they ran 4 boats. Some of the best times my kids ever had was riding on the Fantail and feeding Cheetos to the Sea Gulls, holding the food up between their fingers so the birds could grab it. The occasional pinch of the fingers always made for a squeal and then back for more. We stopped and ate at Joes Crab Shack and then headed home. While we were on the dock at Joes, my wife saw a Coast Guard Boat with its lights on and a Crew member manning a small machine gun on the bow. She asked me about it and I said they’re in condition 1, so they may be escorting a ship of some sort, although there were none in sight. About that time the Carnival Cruise Liner came around the corner, heading out. It was under its own power and going real slow, barely leaving a ripple in the water. YUP,… Life is GOOD! 😀 Insert “1000 marbles here”.

Yeah. At one point, a CNN reporter was unaware he was on camera. He didn’t realize his audio was live also. He’s talking nonchalantly to the producer, thinking he was getting ready to go on. Once he knew he was live he all of the sudden began to stumble around like he was getting buffeted. What a show.

Me, I abandoned all regard for Powell when he endorsed Obummer. There was no rational reason for him to do that, so I concluded it was racially motivated. And I have no use for racists.

Hello Hamsterousians! Good golly gee whiz, it’s hot. Feels like I’m stepping into a huge convection oven. Stayed out just long enough to turn on a sprinker as the birds are so parched, they just pant like a dog with their little mouths open. When the spray hits the branches of the shrub, they act like it’s their own private shower and just sit in it and fluff themselves and have a total blast!
All the critters are suffering. Saw Baby Dillo today. He was rooting around beneath my “prize” shrub and I didn’t have to energy or time to box ‘im up. So I clapped my hands to shoo him off and he just looked at me with miserable eyes and slowly went off toward the woodline. His little hipbones and shoulders were outlined in his shell, he was so skinny. Poor little thing, I don’t have the heart to chase him away any more. The dehydration might do more than all my boxing efforts.
May God have mercy on all of us, we are totally in His hands.

Thank you for kindness to birds and baby dillos! The birds that come to my yard for seeds are not skinny, but their feathers are in poor condition this year. With the COH watering restrictions, I’m no longer able to have a sprinkler going except on my 2 legal mornings, but it’s nice to see the birds enjoy it those days. We topped out at 107 today.

We’ve settled on 104 as the high temp here at our place for today since that’s the highest it got in the shade. Miserable enough. Didn’t slip below 90 until after 9, and it’s still smothering at 88.
Pete Olson hosted a BBQ get together at Safari Texas Ranch on FM 1464 in Richmond this evening to introduce the Republican US Senate candidates, and I attended along with numerous fellow Greater Fort Bend County Tea Party members among a large gathering that filled the ballroom. Candidates speaking were Tom Leppert (former Dallas mayor), Elizabeth Ames Jones (Texas RR Commissioner), Glenn Addison (businessman), Lela Pittenger (registered nurse), Ted Cruz (former Texas Solicitor General), and–gasp–latecomer who only decided to join this week, David Dewhurst. Mr. Dewhurst had been a no-show at tea party candidate forums all over the state, but I guess since Congressman Olson was hosting, he’d deign to show up.
IMHO best presentation was by Ted Cruz, whose table before the speakers began had attracted the largest gathering and whose comments received the largest applause of the evening. Mr. Leppert and Ms. Pittenger also espoused solid conservative values that definitely pleased the audience; Ms Ames Jones and Mr. Addison also did so but with fewer specifics and a bit less passion. However, Mr. Dewhurst embarrassed himself with a patchwork of platitudes, few specifics, and a clumsy and a bit condescending embrace of the Tea Party Movement as if he’s been there since 2009.
IMHO It will be a two-person primary between Ted Cruz and David Dewhurst, and if David keeps coming across in the campaign the way he did tonight, he shall self-destruct. As Rush says, when somebody is making a fool of himself, stand back and let it happen. He mentioned the Tea Party Movement in his remarks, but what galled more were several hand- painted signs on the wall behind his table that mimicked the kind seen at TP rallies, made by ordinary folks; those seemed more mocking than good props, and many of us took them as clumsy insults. His campaign would have been much better advised to have only the one printed sign on the front of his table and not had the pseudo TP rally signs behind. That he signed up so late to attend was bad enough, but to look so hastily put together compounded the impression that he didn’t have anything better to do tonight. IMHO, the train has already left the station.

Glad to hear Texpat’s OK. I remember one year in Des Plaines, IL when a huge storm was coming everyone was running to get inside while my dad went outside in rain gear. I watched him make a ditch at the side of the townhouse that would direct water straight to the center of the side and then he dug out another ditch from that center point to the middle of the side yard. It turnso ut we were about he only house in the neighborhood which did not get about two feet of water in the basement. We had damp carpets but that’s it. My brother and I had to go to other people’s homes to “play” in their flooded basement. Well, basically to see what a real flooded basement looked like.
