Douglas Murray at the Manhattan Institute’s Dinner Receiving the Alexander Hamilton Award last Monday
The transcript of his remarkable speech:
I think of all the people I’ve seen in Iraq, Ukraine, northern Nigeria—where the Christians are under such terrible and almost ignored persecution—and many other places. But I’ve never seen as much of the best and the worst of humankind as I have in the past six months in Israel and Gaza. I was here in New York on October 7. On October 8, I went down to Times Square, where there were men and women waving signs celebrating the massacre of the previous day. They weren’t calling for a two-state solution. They weren’t saying that we’d awfully like to do some borderline territory swaps in the West Bank. No, no. It was all celebrating the massacre.
and,
And I noted that Moshe had a bullet mark down the top of his helmet, and he hadn’t mentioned anything about it. I asked, “Where’s that from?” He explained that it was from October 7. Every Saturday, he would go down to see a friend of his—who was also in the media—in Kfar Aza, and he drove right into the middle of the firefight on the highway.
He got out and fought and killed three terrorists with his own gun that he carries with him, thank goodness. He fought for the next two days. And he doesn’t expect any applause from it or anything like that; he just did what he had to do.
plus,
And I think of a young woman called Adi Baruch. She was 23, and I was with her family in December in Judea and Samaria. She was a beautiful girl, a photographer—she decided that she had to go and reenlist after October 7. And she did. Her parents begged her not to, but she said that she had to. She was killed on her first day by a rocket that landed on her in Sderot. Her parents shared with me the note that she’d left for them, in case she didn’t make it. In it, she said, among other things, how sorry she was, but she said, “I wanted to live life, and now I want you to live it for me.”
and this,
But I compare this to what I’ve seen in the last six months. Actually, a number of my readers and viewers have said to me in the last six months, “You’ve changed, Douglas.” I sometimes ask them what it is they mean, and they say, “You’ve lost some of your pessimism.”
for this reason,
I spoke some months ago with an older guy in Tel Aviv who said that he’d fought in the 1967 and the 1973 wars. He said, “I owe the younger generation in Israel an apology. I used to say that they didn’t have it in them. . . they like partying. They like being on Instagram and TikTok.” And he said, “I owe them an apology. They’ve been magnificent.” And the thing is, perhaps it does require life to become serious again. Perhaps the students we see at these destroyed universities just need a dose of reality someday. I always pray that that day never comes to them, because it’ll be the biggest wake-up call anyone has ever had. But all I would say is that this country and Great Britain should be so lucky as to have a young generation like the one in Israel. They were weighed in the balance since October 7, and they’ve been found to be magnificent.

As I recall, it was the great conglomerate PepsiCo which ended up with KFC and many other companies.
They never had a chance anyway.
Pepsi was was always the nastiest cola ever dreamed up.
Seriously, I didn’t know that KFC was still in business.
The last one around here closed ten years ago in Sealy.
I am fairly confident that I can round up 300,000 people in SE Texas to do a drought dance later this week.

Sadly, according to witnesses, Bones tried to reason with the Alaskan whale and even offered her a massage.
She laughed heartily as she swallowed him whole.

Rain has stopped for now, though clouds are still hanging around to the NW. Grand total so far today is 2.79″. The yards and pastures are squishy.
I’ve signed up to pray for a nurse from Infinite Worth. They talk to pregnant women, trying to counsel them through/from a decision to abort their babies. I got an update today from our liason: … In a previous conversation , one young girl called after an abortion. She was bleeding heavily. The clinic dismissed it and her boyfriend told her… Read more »
I just opened my next-to-last can of HEB Spicy Charro Beans. This automatically sets off sirens, horns, and flashing lights.
I remember the height of Covid when that HEB shelf was empty.
Even today, sometimes that shelf can be found empty.
I figure some cheating Pinto Bean Cookoff contestant has cleared them out.
Getting all dark and thundery again at the Dome.
Oh and the rain is over but we got almost 2 inches of rain, (1.81″) and we may have another round after midnight. Pretty windy now and when I was out and about I saw that we have a few limbs down but nothing serious.
Well we’d forgot that Boon Docks was close on Mondays N Tuesdays so the girls went to Hook’d Pier Bar & Grill at the County Pier and had a couple of fine seafood platters. The place is right on the beach and even though they couldn’t sit outside they did had a panoramic view of the white beach. Daughter loved… Read more »
The forecast rainstorm did not disappoint. Beginning an hour ago its 2.59″ scattered in small lakes in the front and back yards. A strong wind was steering it and continues to blow with less vigor from the north. It was a relatively quiet thunderstorm once it got going. We are delighted with all the nitrogen it brought with it. The… Read more »
I love a good storm. It’s the main reason I insisted we put really big porches on the house.
We have hail now. Not much, just a little. But still.. it’s hail.
Ah, the wifi is back on. We did get some pretty good strobe lighting here for a second or two.
I think those last two overhead lightning bolts knocked out our power. Hard to tell since I think the generator kicked on. Lost the house wifi.

Michael Knowles discusses the whys and wherefores if the Trump Jersey rally numbers: https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-1488-trump-s-nearly-100-000-attendees-shatters-rally-record I managed to repot my house palm, since it was in serious decline. Good grief.
Trump drew 80-100K to a rally in New Jersey?
Non-stop rumbling thunder over here. Here’s praying we get lucky with this round.
This area has enough damage for one season.
When the apocalypse hits you may find yourself with 1 pair of underwear. A boondocking trick for getting by with 1 pair of underwear is to turn them front to back and in and out to get 4 uses out of them. You should get 8 days out of them easy, then trash them.
We need more Florida type sheriffs, everywhere: The general tone from Florida sheriffs is drastically different than law enforcement agencies in other cities. During a press conference in April 2022, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said home invaders should ideally be shot.“If someone is breaking into your house, you’re more than welcome to shoot,” he said. “We prefer you to do that,… Read more »

I have a date for my next dental surgery; it’ll be May 21st, starting at 8:30 a.m. I was warned that it might include some more membrane and bone graft installations, which would increase both the price and the time in the chair. Yea for our being in the Federal Fifth Circuit Court’s jurisdiction.
Good Morning Hamsters, Weather Guessers say that nasty weather is headed this way this afternoon (or a bit sooner) bringing large hail able to dent vehicles left outside and damage building roofs. The whole thing at Methodist Hospital and Hugeley Hospital in Fort Worth was about Bowden successfully using Ivermectin for Covid. She just made them all look bad, they got jealous and wanted revenge.
Dr. Mary Talley Bowden and two other prominent physicians won their landmark suit against the FDA and after winning the appeal in the Fifth Circuit, the FDA settled rather than allow actual discovery regarding internal FDA and CDC documents, emails and texts. Hubby asked me this morning if our kiddos remembered to call me yesterday. I told him that LD had texted me and Handsome had called. I even got a text from my daughter in law, who’s still in Florida. That surprised both of us.
Though we lost mom a month before Mother’s Day last year and my grandmother years ago, yesterday felt strange not needing to call or go visit. RIP mom and grandma.

I somehow missed this story earlier.
State Rep. Steve Toth (R-Conroe) has urged Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton to intervene in the Texas Medical Board’s proceedings against Dr. Mary Talley Bowden.
Good morning.
