A very special concert this night.
A very special night for our tiny family.
Thank you, Lord.
Well dang a Blonde Friday, wife and daughter are blondes, well my wife’s hair started turning darker in her 30’s-40’s but daughter still has platinum blonde hair. So Shannon what was the concert? If you mentioned it I missed it. Glad y’all are having a nice visit.
Mornin’ Gang
I had mentioned cutting up the big red Oak that fell across the dam of the little pond and my wife asked me how old did I think it was. Well the pond was dammed up in 1966 and since it was 15′ from the back side of the dam, I figured it grew up after the pond was made. But I counted the rings and was 69 years old! One year younger than me and looking at the thin vs thick rings you can clearly see the drought of 1963-1968 and then some very wet years until 1975-1979 where it was drier but not real bad. I’m surprised that the tree made it through the construction of the pond but it would have been small and I guess it was just far enough away that the Bulldozer missed it. It is a shame that it that we lost it but it was during some really high winds and rain so the base just ripped loose from the rest of the ground.
Woman: “Oh, stewardess! I speak jive.”
The Stewardess: “Oh, good.”
😀
I love it when serious actors/actresses take goofy parts.
“You can tell me I’m a doctor”…..
The part of the Jive Lady in “Airplane!” was originally intended for Harriet Nelson, who had played the mother in the 1950s sitcom “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.” She turned it down because she was concerned about the film’s adult language. She was replaced with Barbara Billingsley who played the mother in the 1950s sitcom “Leave It to Beaver.” Nelson later admitted to “Airplane!” star Robert Hays that she regretted not taking the part.
Ward, don’t you think you were a little hard on The Beaver last night?
The concert was Rhiannon Giddens.
I like her sound. Did she put on a good show?
I was up late and then took my meds. That means I got up late and I haven’t even TRIED to tackle the hair yet. I look like a cartoon character, but I’m finishing my coffee before I gear up for that task.
I haven’t done my rosary time yet, since I have a meeting with Fr. Felix re the Rosary Center. I gots questions for him, since I’ve started playing with the database for him. I do regret ever opening my mouth on that topic, though I do find myself somewhat excited to get back into it. I really did enjoy what I used to do.
I just want to do it for myself, and not have deadlines and responsibilities pressing on me from someone else.
Senioritis.
Childers gives his review of the Trump case. Excerpt:
The sordid picture that emerged between the two scheming lawyers’ testimony seems more than anything to help President Trump, who is starting to look more and more like the victim of a con rather than a presidential criminal meriting historic prosecution. For example, one of Cohen’s secret recordings played for the jury this week was a conversation between the lawyers, Cohen and Davidson. In the audio, Cohen whined to Davidson about Trump never understanding why he had to pay for the NDAs:
“I can’t even tell you how many times he (Trump) said to me ‘I hate the fact that we did it,’ and my comment to him was ‘but every person that we’ve spoken to tells you it was the right move.’”
In addition to showing Trump’s obvious distaste toward the whole enterprise, Cohen’s recording also showed a shocking lack of familiarity with ethical rules about keeping the lawyer’s discussions with his client confidential. There was Cohen, blabbing about what he and Trump said, to the lawyer on the other side.
/snip
In other words, one of the reasons Cohen hates Trump so much is because Trump never actually paid for the Stormy Daniels money. This evidence would seem to greatly complicate Alvin Bragg’s case. Good luck proving beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump ever paid the so-called “hush money” rather than “legal expenses.”
And so much more….
h/t CFP: DOJ goes after Dem. Henry Cuellar
IIRC, Cuellar was one of the few Dems who stood up against BidenCo’s open borders.
It was only a matter of time. Political enemies/resistance must be crushed.
He’s the only Democrat left in Congress who opposes abortion rights — a position that has infuriated many in his party
A late Good Morning to y’all,
It is wet from overnight, wet from this morning’s rain, likely wet and gloomy all day. Wind has died down to a whisper from what it was yesterday and overnight, and perhaps that means we are working our way out of this gloom and wetness.
Squirrels around here are busy taking samples of the bread I put out for them yesterday, and they don’t seem to care if they are wet and so is the bread. About half of it is gone. And the crows are back taking their share, as they don’t seem to mind the wet either. Purrscilla has been keeping watch at various windows most of the morning, in between naps.
Hmm, the Feds are now messing with Texas’ Democrat representatives. They apparently do not comprehend that Texas is The Giant among the states, nor that there is previous experience with being a Republic… 🙂
Chita Craft because KHOU could not afford a full blown cougar.
Bones
It was an incredible concert. The Paramount Theater restoration is magnificent.
Texpat and I wanted to hug the sound men. Texpat made a point to thank them. The sound was perfect. The vocals weren’t drowned out by the instruments and bass, as so often happens in live shows.
I haven’t enjoyed a concert so much in a long time.
A special memory forever.
It amazes me that “the sound guys” so frequently can’t get the mix right. . . .
These guys were young. Texpat says when the sound guys are as old as we are they’re half deaf from all the years of producing concerts and don’t have a clue how loud they’re making it.
🙂
Super Dave just thinks he can kill the blog.
Three hours and counting…,
😀
Those poor b@$tards in Montgomery County are gonna need webbed feets.
the scary part is that the sun is shining now… as the river continues to rise…
I had a meeting with Fr. Felix’s Rosary Center group today. One of the things I brought with me was a sign to go out at tomorrow morning’s First Saturday mass, to be set out with some rosaries for those who don’t have their own.
“How many rosaries should I put out?” I asked Father.
“Oh, about 15 or 20,” he replied.
I almost fell over. That’ll empty my stash out quickly, and I like to have some for my purse to hand out, and I need to keep some available for the pregnancy center, too. He said that I could put out 4-5 of mine and they can fill in with the cheaper ones.
I told Father my issue was that most folks at our church have at least one rosary, but I’ve run into folks taking mine because they are pretty and not necessarily because they need it. That means that others without rosaries won’t be able to grab one in necessity. But then, I remind myself, I have to assume that Mary and Jesus will get each and every one of them where they need to be. I don’t have to control everything, just what I can do.
Hoof and mouth?
The TV folks keep trying to assure the audience that this rainy period is not like Harvey, but today it sure looks like Harvey’s twin brother. The pictures of flooding in neighborhoods look just like the flooded neighborhoods from Harvey near us, and our 2″ inside our house–the only house in our subdivision flooded. All the homes in our neighboring subdivision behind us were flooded to various extents, as they are closer to the Brazos.
Is that a HEB on the reservation?
The glorious HEB has yet to venture out of Texas, so my people must make do with lesser grocery stores or their own foraging.
Harvey dumped a minimum of 40 inches of rain in four days across SE Texas.
Unless you were unlucky enough to be in those areas that got over 60 inches, as they did in Nederland.
There has never been a rain event like that in my lifetime in this area.
No one in this area has received anything close to that this week.
We got 54″ at our house in the Clear Lake Area. We sure could use a little of that over here, no rain in 3 weeks and none next week. Well we do have a 30% chance tomorrow but the prediction map is pathetic we’ll be lucky if we get a trace.
We’ve gotten 17/100 of rain today, quite enough to keep everything watered well. It can stop anytime now. As I recall, we had a bit over 40″ here from Harvey. That was one nightmare I hope we never have again.
I finally got around to making today’s rosary, and I think I have time to weigh my shrimp one more time before going to bed. I have to be up early for mass and First Saturday devotions, and the meds and the hip make getting up early…..challenging.
I found out today that Fr. Mitch Pacwa will be speaking at our fundraising gala in October. He’s kind of a big deal in the Catholic world, so that should be interesting. That is also a First Saturday, so Fr. Felix is going to see if Fr. Mitch will come in early and do a special presentation for us as part of the rosary center stuff.
After the gala (and I’m assuming Sunday masses), Fr. Felix and Fr. Mitch are going hunting. Fr. Felix got a kid’s grin on his face when he said that. Too cute.
