Weekender Real Estate Extravaganza – Open Comments
This is Squawk and Bsue’s new weekend swankienda in Austin. They’ve been keeping it a secret, but I discovered it while Squawk was preoccupied with his new Box Family Championship Pickleball Training Camp down on the banks of Lady Bird Lake.
This place features a fine cast iron stove for heat, a West Texas certified swamp cooler, a splinter-free outhouse seat with a new electric heater in the winter days.
Notice the charming, rustic red roofing and antique cattle panel fencing. The friendly dog, rocking chair and girls’ bicycle were included in the purchase.
The noise around here has been rather steady for several hours, with apparently numerous folks setting off fireworks. We may also be hearing folks in Richmond setting fireworks off also, though it is illegal to do that in cities in the county. And then there are the idiots who shoot off guns to “celebrate” the new year. Fortunately we’ve had… Read more »
I looked at the champagne but decided against it because I knew I would only drink one glass.
So I bought a chunk of carrot cake instead.
Sure was good.
Happy New Year, Hamsters.

It’s been WWIII around Chez Harp since a bit before sundown. Some of it is so loud that it sounds like it is actually in the neighborhood, although it probably isn’t.
Checking in to say hi and Happy New Year to all the Hamsters! I’ve been busy today. Mass, then I went to Sams (a different location) to see yet once more if it’s worth keeping our membership active. I ordered some more glasses, with larger lenses so hopefully the progressive lens distortion won’t drive me nuts like my current glasses. … Read more »
Good afternoon last day of 2023, Hamsters. Back home from a good lunch at a favorite restaurant out here in the not so wilds any more of Fort Bend County across the Brazos from Richmond. On the matter of real estate values, we found out from a dear friend that a home in our small subdivision (maybe 22 several-acre lots)… Read more »
Interestingly for a New Jersey/New York city girl, one of Her Highness’ long time favorite cable shows has been Lone Star Law featuring all the real game wardens in Texas.
I have had my first encounter with an AI character in a television show. Her Highness decided we should watch this series on Paramount Plus called Joe Pickett. It’s about a Fish & Wildlife game warden in Wyoming. The lead character is a New Zealand actor I’ve never heard of and his dull performance coupled with the mostly lame dialogue… Read more »
For the first time in 20 years, we are having a quiet, restful New Years Eve without the usual open house champagne, chili & beans party with guests streaming by. We’ll have a bigger blowout next year. We’ve had a stressful year and with a grandbaby due in five days, it was decided we needed a respite before we go… Read more »
This is your New Year’s Financial Prosperity Lesson. Tucker Carlson interviews Jordan Belfort, the original “Wolf of Wall Street” about whom Hollywood made a movie, and he explains the best and worst facets of Wall Street and how it really works. Belfort also dives into how Congress members make millions in financial markets even though they are mostly ignorant and… Read more »

Morning, gang! Well… NOONING anyway…
I wasted a whole hour on today’s sudoku, only to bomb with an error. I may try again later on today.
Yeah y’all picked a dumb wedding day as well right, Valentine’s Day? Close, February 15 and my birthday is February 17. I was 20 when I got married and turned 21 in Los Angles on our way to Hawaii. FWIW; The wedding date was set and changed by my wife a dozen times. It started out August 1975 then somehow… Read more »
Thanks SD! Yeah y’all picked a dumb wedding day as well right, Valentine’s Day? A Nes Years Eve anniversary has cost us a fortune over the years, in our younger years anyhow.
IF and that is a mighty big if, the clowns running our government now and our ‘allies’ were serious about stopping the nonsense coming out of Yemen, they would send a m.o.a.b. to the launch site of those missiles. FAFO.
Obviously, they are not serious and kind of like what is going on – otherwise they would do something about it.
In almost every news story from the Red Sea, the USS Laboon is there leading the fight. This crew is fighting fiercely day and night against the Houthis. Big props to this boat.
Breaking about 30 minutes ago.. BEIRUT — The US military said Sunday it shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles fired toward a container ship by Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. Hours later, four boats tried to attack the same ship, but U.S. forces opened fire, killing several of the armed crews, the US Central Command said. No one was injured… Read more »
Sunrise at Panama City Beach. Not the best but we’ll take it. The sunrise is behind the buildings so it’s not as pretty as the sunsets that fall over the gulf. But this time of year the sun is further south so that helps.
I heard Dr. Phil Good went off on a Geriatric Glam Rocker Nostalgia Cruise in the Caribbean for the holidays. Dear Jersey boss man. having a great time out here on the high seas. You should’ve come along. the gang’s all here. of course no one can keep up with me here either. kinda like on the blog where the… Read more »

Good morning this last day of 2023. Let us hope this coming year will be better. That may be hoping against hope, but what else can one do ?
I have to go pick up a guy and come back to the house so he can diagnose my roof leak.
This guy is like the roof whisperer.

Mornin’ Gang
Except for you uncklo.;), of course.
Must be getting cold out there. I keep turning the heater down and it keeps kicking on anyway.
It’s almost 2 o’clock in the morning, sonny. WTH you talking’ about?
You didn’t show up at the Windsor Theater in your stained, holey t-shirt and threadbare cargo shorts to see a movie.
Mention of My Fair Lady reminds me of a Front Page post that I never quite finished for publishing several years ago.
The subject was the Windsor Theater which is where Mom took me to see MFL.
The Windsor was a great part of Houston history.
Perhaps I’ll go back and try again.
I’d forgotten that Bob Dylan roped a turkey in Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid
(Peckinpaw version)
And my, didn’t Rita Coolidge look just fine?
I don’t think I get Start TV.
But I have MFL on DVD.
and can sing every song by heart
I hope they have fine wine, fine waitresses, and grilled red snapper on that boat, phil.
Get’n dark, too dark to see
FYI
the green acres shack in the o/c pic would go for about 3 million in Fredericksburg these days.

Tedtam, Breakfast at Tiffany’s is daughter’s favorite Audrey Hepburn movie.
All you Hepburn fans – “My Fair Lady” is starting on StartTV, whatever channel that is in your area. At least here in Houston.
