On Tuesday, I went out in the cool of the afternoon (4pm) and dead headed the fading blooms. Most people are unaware that you can get a second bloom on crepe myrtles if you promptly remove the faded flower heads – unless you have a late-blooming variety.
But with this blistering, dry summer, I think I will have to start watering it to get a decent second bloom.

Today’s high here is 101, and since the humidity is “only” 53% it is still smothering but not as nasty as it would be with a much higher humidity that truly is suffocating.
