Tuesday Tucker Talk Open Comments

On Friday, April 21st, Tucker Carlson delivered the keynote speech at the 50th anniversary gala celebration of the Heritage Foundation in the Washington DC area.

Carlson did not know what was coming and it is reported he was not notified he was fired until ten minutes before Fox hit the wires with the press release on Monday morning.

Notice though in this speech it is completely extemporaneous sans notes.

Morning gang.  Getting ready for shower and shave and making a grand entrance to the reopening of the TOK at Larry’s.  We’ll see if they can recoup the business that they lost while being closed for staff medical procedures.

From Power Line, and getting into the Tucker discussion comes this little tidbit that I did not know.

“It is typical of Carlson that he is not a creature of Washington. Most who watched him on Fox News probably didn’t realize it, but he did not broadcast from Washington or New York. He once owned a home in the D.C. area, but sold it. In the warm months, he broadcast from a town in Maine where he had a summer place and Fox News had set up a studio. In the colder months, he did his show from Boca Grande, on Gasparilla Island on Florida’s Gulf Coast, where again he had a Fox studio. ”

You all have a good day.  If I get a chance I might file a live report from TOK in a bit.

I stay so busy all the time that I don’t keep y’all updated on my projects like El Gordo does so I’ll try to do better, I mean I know there is much interest in all of it. 😀

A while back I was thinking that I needed some sort of light at the Pole Barn for when the wife pulls her Tahoe in after dark. I thought about a remote light like El Gordo has or one that hooked up to the overhead door motor. I finally decide that I just needed and outdoor motion sensing light that had adjustable “On” times. But I also need an inside light since the regular light switch is way over by the entrance door. SO I picked up a motion sensing light at Harbor Freight and mounted it on the outside then ran a wire from the hot/black wire on the light socket inside and mounted a outdoor flood light fixture on the wall so that both lights would come on when triggered. After I got it all wire up the motion sensing unit didn’t work so I figured that I shouldn’t have bought it at Harbor Freight. I returned it and ordered a fancy one on-line. Before I installed it I added the black wire to the light plug and then put it up. Guess what? The inside light stayed on all the time, the damn sensing unit opens the neutral white circuit!! Not exactly to code! SO!!! I returned it and got another one form Harbor Freight thinking the first one was a fluke. I installed it and everything is fine AND the cheap Harbor Freight light has 3 times the range as the Fancy $$$ one. The Fancy one wouldn’t trip until you were about 15 about feet away the cheap one works out to about 60 feet.  I even turned down the sensitivity just in case it caught a car going down the road.  😀

Larry Correia, novelist and gun dealer/instructor, had this to say about Tucker and he’s never watched him.

That shows a very boomer era understanding of media consumption and overestimation of the power of a traditional news channel.

He didn’t need Fox. The last I saw his contract there was something like cheap, which is chump change to a guy with a reliable audience in the millions every night.

Tucker Carlson is now going to go sign a Joe Rogan size contract on a streaming service. He will make the most money of any news broadcaster in history and probably do so by an insane margin.

    plus,

And I don’t even watch Fox News at all, nor do I care about Tucker Carlson. But if you are too blinded by goofy partisan point scoring to grasp the business implications of this, it’s a bad look, but it ain’t my problem.

Joe Rogan signed a deal with Spotify for over $100 million.  I think Carlson will sign a contract somewhere and the size of it will make those imbeciles on Good Morning America choke and spew their coffee.

El Gordo referred to this article at Powerline by John Hinderaker referring to when they hired Carlson to give the keynote speech at their annual dinner in Minneapolis in 2018.

At the same time, I could see that there was no sign of a speech tucked into his coat pocket. I began to worry about whether he had actually prepared a speech for our event. So I asked what he intended to talk about. “Oh, mostly just some recent developments in Washington,” he answered.

Soon thereafter the dinner got underway, and Tucker took the podium, still with no script in sight. He started talking off the cuff and gave one of the best speeches I have ever heard, reflecting meticulous preparation and well thought-out ideas. His theme, copiously illustrated, was that our country is under attack by the Left on a number of fronts, we conservatives are backed up against a wall, and we have no alternative but to fight.

I was struck yesterday when I watched the video of the Heritage Foundation speech and realized he had no notes, no teleprompter and was extemporaneous for 26 minutes without missing a beat, without a stutter or an “uhm”.

I’ve done enough public speaking to know how incredibly difficult that is.  It’s one thing to recite something from memory written by someone else like an actor does and yet another thing altogether to compose a concise, compelling speech from scratch on the fly and do it for almost half an hour.

Back from Larry’s TOK for coffee this morning, and I’m glad to report that it was just like old times – the gang was all there, the staff was the same, and there was a line of workmen waiting to get their breakfast tacos while custom cooked breakfast plates were being served to the others.  I chipped in a little as I do most mornings and helped manage the coffee brewer to make sure we did not run out, and I was the beneficiary of the spent coffee grounds for the worms and other composting project I’m working on.  Seemed just like old times.

It’s warming up a little bit but still cooler than normal, and the possibility of some rain exists for the next couple of days.  All is good for out here at the present times.

I don’t contribute to the NFL coffers any longer but I enjoy the Hot Stove aspect of it somewhat. The draft is coming up in a couple days and the Texans have several high picks, including the #2. Local and national sports shows love rattling the fan cages with outrageous forecasts for ratings or clicks, as in the Texans won’t pick a QB. So, it has worked on me, ears suitably perked up and will be following.

Regarding the story on the insurance, I’ve been touting from the very beginning that this covid thing with all this vaccination excess mortality, was going to be a big problem for the insurance companies. If they fail, how much of the economy is going to tank right with them? And how many people depending on their insurance to come through for them and their families when they die are going to be disappointed?

Bloomberg has published a deep dive write up on the founders of Nord VPN and the whole VPN industry.

At the former site of a Soviet-era sock factory in Vilnius, the old-world capital of Lithuania, NordSec BV’s new headquarters is rising in a clatter of construction workers and scaffolding. Soon the startup’s roughly 2,000 employees will gather near the remains of a brick smokestack for basketball and rooftop barbecues at a sleek complex that wouldn’t look out of place in San Francisco. When co-founders Tom Okman and Eimantas Sabaliauskas invested in the factory property four years ago, it was still making hosiery. Now the sign at the bus stop out front reads Vienaragiu, the Lithuanian word for “unicorn.” The Silicon Valley-style conspicuousness is new for Okman and Sabaliauskas, who spent close to a decade developing NordSec and its principal brand, Nord Security, while keeping a low profile. It’s also a little unusual for a company that is, after all, in the privacy business.

I’ve always found it interesting the Left constantly stands at the edge of hysteria over Tucker Carlson.  Chuck Schumer screams about him endlessly.  They don’t react that way to Hannity, Kilmeade or Will Cain.  They did have some fits over Megyn Kelly in the past but she’s gone from Fox now.

My theory is the Dems internal polling and surveys have indicated Carlson draws heavily among independents and centrist Democrat voters and that flips them out.  They don’t feel threatened so much by Hannity because he draws from a solid Right constituency of viewers and listeners and pulls none from the Independent/Dem demographic.

My belated take on the Tucker situation.  Tucker was getting too close to the real truth of what is going on.  This did not happen in a vacuum.  Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats want the real truth to be out there lest they be subjected to the tar and pitch fork treatment.  After the release of the first (and only) Jan 6 videos, it became apparent to both parties that Tucker must go.  Now Daddy Rupert has turned over management of Fox News to his entitled sons.  Neither the sons nor their liberal wives appreciated being shunned at the country club socials and such, particularly by their broadcasting peers; so their job was to carefully maneuver Fox News back toward the mainstream liberal bent media.  So that has been brewing in the background for some time, and most of the Fox on air personalities understood this and at least moderated their tone.  But not Tucker.  He became the leading voice on cable news, having more viewers than all the other cable networks combined.  That was fine, he was bringing in the dollars and viewers for Fox News, so some of his more bombastic and outrageous commentary could be overlooked.  But with the January 6 stuff, he got too close for comfort for both Reps and Dems.   Of course, Rupert’s entitled but neutered sons were befuddled and did not know what to do – how could they fade the heat of dismissing Fox’s number one cash cow.  So they go running to Daddy to find out what to do.  Whoever TPTB (haven’t found that out yet) that approached Rubert and induced him to settle a billion dollar lawsuit and dismiss Bongino and Tucker – all of which obviously has done severe financial damage to Fox – had to have told him something really bad.  An offer Rupert could not refuse.  Fox was just too far out front and needed to be put on cruise control while the others catch up.  I cannot imagine what they told Rupert, but it was enough to cause him to make the difficult choice between hobbling the company or destroying it all together.  It’s that bad I believe.  Maybe more will come out over time, but the dark forces at work in American politics includes both political parties regardless of what you may think.  And they are both evil at their core.  My $.02.

In the meantime, the cute little baby possum came out from under the old deck and went straight to remnants of Wild Mix I had put on the patio for the birds. Good Afternoon Hamsters,

    # 11 GJT,

The long divorce between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers is supposed to be complete with an agreement on the trade of draft picks.  The Jets get Aaron Rodgers and a 2023 first round pick and fifth round pick.  Packers get first, second, and sixth 2023 picks, and a 2024 second round conditional pick (that becomes a first round pick if Aaron Rodgers plays 65 % of the plays). This is the info in today’s Houston Chronical.   I presume the 65% means he plays in 65% of the Jets games, though that is not made completely clear in the article. I did not see any reference to any money changing hands.

For reasons we will not know now, he decided to make this change.  As a very small holder of Packers stock, I just hope he will go into the Hall of Fame as a Packer for all his years in Green Bay.  Wonder how the late  Bart Starr would view this.  🙂

A 2016 medical article documenting the tragic death of one of the participants in the linchpin Dutch study upon which the entire child sex change experiment is based indicates that puberty suppression was to blame for the young person’s death.

The case is that of an 18-year-old trans-identified male whose puberty was blocked by the Dutch researchers at a very early stage, meaning there wasn’t enough penile tissue for surgeons to use to create a “neo-vagina.” Therefore, a more risky procedure using a section of the patient’s bowel was necessary, which resulted in fatal necrotizing fasciitis.

    and,

Major complications began within 24 hours of surgery, and necrotising fasciitis was confirmed in the days that followed. Despite large doses of intravenous antibiotics and “repeated surgical debridement,” the previously healthy patient went into multiple organ failure and died.

    About this poem

Voted Britain’s favourite poem, ‘Warning’, written in 1961, is known and loved the world over for its message of old age as a time for indulgence and fun. In the poem’s respectable middle-aged woman, as she imagines herself in old age as a cheeky rebel with outrageous clothes and dotty behaviour, poet Jenny Joseph has created a character whose thoughts have been quoted at conferences and funerals, used to cheer up sick friends and remembered with pleasure by children and adults alike around the world.

I’m really trying not to beat this Tucker Carlson subject to death, but this story is really bizarre and involves the speech I posted in the header today.

A source has revealed that Tucker Carlson was reportedly removed from Fox News by Fox Corporation Chairman Rupert Murdoch following a speech made by the now-former Fox host on Friday that contained religious overtones.

The source told Vanity Fair that Murdoch made the decision to remove Carlson following the comments made during a speech Carlson made at the Heritage Foundation’s 50th Anniversary gala on Friday night.

    plus,

“I have concluded it might be worth taking just 10 minutes out of your busy schedule to say a prayer for the future, and I hope you will,” Carlson said.

“That stuff freaks Rupert out. He doesn’t like all the spiritual talk,” the source told the outlet.

The source added that Murdoch was potentially “unnerved” by Carlson’s comments because it echoed those views of his former fiancee Ann Lesley-Smith.

According to the outlet, Murdoch and Smith called off their two-week engagement earlier this spring because Smith had told others that Carlson was a “messenger from God.”

The source said that in late March, Carlson attended dinner with Murdoch and Smith at the Fox head’s Bel Air vineyard, during which Smith pulled out a bible and started reading a passage from Exodus.

“Rupert just sat there and stared,” the source said.

I have no idea whether this true, but I wouldn’t be surprised a bit if it were.

No rain here today despite the forecast for some late this afternoon.  On the weather news tonight it was explained that the rain did not have enough push to get this far south.  The rain Thursday is supposed to be the big one.  And there might be some rain tomorrow.  Not holding breath that long….
