Gonzales Burns & The Runaway Scrape Begins – Monday Open Thread

The Runaway Scrape, March 13, 1836

This day it begins.  Gonzales is burned to the ground.  Sam Houston and the Texas army, as it were, begin a retreat still taught at West Point and elsewhere in military history as one of the great strategic victories culminating at the Battle of San Jacinto.

My #39 I should gave mentioned new trees planted on that stretch of  TC Jester! The esplanade has been a pitiful sight for perhaps a decade since some vile fungus had killed all the small decorative trees. It may be the City doing this, and not the neighborhood or the HOA, but those dead trees have been dug out and… Read more »

This is prolly TMI, but some of the things I have checked annually at the dermatologist is maybe a dozen small moles scattered around on my torso. I no longer even own a swim suit, but even if I did, most of those little moles are on my belly or my back, so they’d be covered no matter what. No… Read more »

Speaking of bluebonnets — (EG #24) — the dermatology clinic I’ve been going to for about 20 years has been in The Heights for longer than that. But The Heights is changing very rapidly. Those blasted 3-story mushroom houses… But I was thrilled to see that the long winding section of TC Jester that follows White Oak Bayou into Timbergrove… Read more »

I can never find a complete copy of Tucker’s show. Only clips. Even days later.

I don’t know how they do it, but Fox must have one helluva crew policing for bootlegged copies.

If anyone cares, BIL’s surgery went well and he may go home as soon as Monday. The surgery started late, 1 PM and ended about 3 PM so I’ve been waiting for an update after he comes around but you can only use a cell phone in the waiting areas so my wife probably hasn’t had time to get down… Read more »

I was watching Tucker’s show and he had sent out a list of 6 questions for all the Republican Presidential candidates about the war in Ukraine. Tonight almost everyone had answered the questions and Tucker was pleasantly surprised that most of them differed with the Neocon’s in Washington. Nikki Haley didn’t respond and John Bolton said he was too busy.… Read more »

It’s early but I’m tired.  I might just go ahead and hit the hay and get up at 4 in the morning again.  As much as I’d light to tough it out, this hour time change has still got my internal clock messed up.  I’m sure a couple more days and I’ll get straightened out.

My car is half loaded with stuff for the thrift shop.  I also have some boxes broken down and some newsprint “stuffing” paper that I intend to add to my totes and/or compost pile.

It all becomes dirt at some time. I’d just rather it happen to my benefit instead of in the middle of a landfill.

I put out a dishpan of water for the birds, and the bluejays have found it.  Boy, do they like their water.  I’ve seen one bird chase another one off and a third bird swoop in while they were fighting to get a drink.

I haven’t seen any bathing yet, but bluejays like their personal hygiene, too.

One more thing from this morning’s activities:  one of the items upstairs is a rather large, heavy, antique-ish piece of furniture.  We’ve been trying to figure out where to put it while ceiling repairs are ongoing, since scaffolding will be needed. I”m watching “Return to Tradition” and the topic today is the secular world trying to destroy the seal of confession in the Catholic Church.

As Stein points out, it isn’t about “public safety”.  It’s about intruding into the Church and destroying the sacraments.
