It’s easy to pick on the Chronicle. So easy it’s not really fun anymore but there were a couple of “Chronically Biased” articles today that are worth mentioning.
The first is linked on their front page entitled Texas Presses for Mexican’s Execution. Forget for a moment that Texas isn’t “pressing for” anything. A jury of the murderer’s peers, having found him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of raping a 16 year old girl then bludgeoning her to death with a chunk of asphalt, decided his fate long ago. But read how the biased piece starts out:

Texas thumbed its nose at the White House and the United Nations on Tuesday as it cleared the way for Thursday’s execution of Humberto Leal Garcia Jr., a Mexican national who was denied access to his nation’s consulate after being arrested for a San Antonio rape-murder.

The White House, and most certainly the United Nations, have no standing in the legal processes conducted by the State of Texas. In fact, they are thumbing their noses at Texas by getting involved. Allan Turner also notes that several “ex-diplomats” were “spurned” by the parole board:

The diplomats included Henry Barnes, Jr., former ambassador to Chile, India, Romania and director general of the Foreign Service; former U.S. Sen. James Jones, who was ambassador to Mexico, 1993-1997; Thomas Pickering, former U.N. ambassador; and William Taft IV, former U.S. ambassador to NATO.

None of these people have any standing in this case either.
Next up is a biased piece by Gary Martin concerning the E-Verify system. The article ends with this comment:

For Hispanic-owned small businesses, the $147 per inquiry cost to check an employee could create a financial burden, particularly in the agricultural or restaurant sectors.
“This is not about civil rights for us, it’s about business,” Palomarez said.

Apparently Mr. Palomarez correctly figured the biased writers at the Houston Chronicle would take his word and not do a little fact-checking on their own. E-Verify doesn’t cost businesses a penny. I know because I use the system. It literally takes seconds to check an employee’s status.

#93 phil An email surfaced today proving Holder is a bald-faced liar involved in the Gunwalker operation at least 20 months ago. Holder has stated he knew nothing until BP Agent Terry was killed last December. I don’t think he is going to slide on this one. There is much more to come and Issa and Grassley will release it… Read more »

Good evening Hamsters. We’re disappointed again in just barely missing rain other than a brief shower that almost wet the grass. Richmond got .80″, and it’s just across the river, maybe a quarter mile south. It got the heavy stuff that went through Missouri City late in the afternoon and slid just beyond our place. And the good storm that… Read more »

Hamous These programs are viewed as essential services that would continue to make payments even as many other federal operations halt. I stand to be corrected, but I believe there is a law already on the books providing for SS and Medicare payments even in the event of a government shutdown that dates back to the 90s.
