Good morning gang.  Up a little early today to double check prep for cold spell.  I’m not looking forward to it, but I’ll probably just stay cooped up inside until it thaws out.  No reason for me to be getting out in the bad stuff that I know of.  Need to make a quick grocery stoop this morning.  I noticed that the wind warnings begin at 6AM this morning, and other warnings are also triggering a little early.  Don’t know if this means the front will be arriving early or if they weather people wanted to just get their warnings out and go home.

TP from yesterday.  I’m sad to report that I know nothing about Rep. Pfluger.  I’ll investigate a little bit though.  I’ve relaxed my political interests since Bidet took office and the ongoing Republican go along to get along position.  Rather than fight it to the point of stroking out or something I’ve just concluded that they will always continue to try to one up each other on the outrage scale, and I’m too old anymore to do anything about it.  Heck, I can’t even do anything about the Athletic Director at Rice, much less on the larger political stage.

Here’s hoping that each and every one of you has a great day and gets yourself buttoned up against the cold.  More later as it develops.

Not sure what to make of the OC pix. Well it’s 48 here and the high will be in the low 60’s but tonight we’re heading for the low 20’s. Today I need to make sure the chicken’s have plenty of water to last through the cold spell so I’ll clean out and top off the 5 gallon water can. I’ve decided to just turn off the water to the Farm House and drain the pipes. I’m pretty sure it would make it through the freeze but why take chances.

    And Squawk thinks “I” missed my calling;

Man decorates his beard like a Christmas tree using 710 baubles.

Santa’s magical white beard isn’t the only thing spreading holiday cheer this year.

Joel Strasser of Kuna, Idaho, USA, isn’t just decking the halls, but his face as well by turning his beard into a Christmas tree.

On 2 December 2022, the serial record-breaker attached an impressive 710 wearable multi-coloured holiday ornaments to his beard, achieving the record title for the most beard baubles in a beard.

Beard baubles are the latest tacky holiday season fashion trend since the ugly Christmas sweater.

Also known as “beardaments,” the festive, clip-on facial hair accessories are colourful jingling balls for brightening up bristly faces.

It isn’t the first time Joel has sported a well ornamented beard.

“December of 2019 was the first time I stuck an ornament in my beard and the first time I broke the record,” said Joel.

“Ever since then I’ve re-broken my own record every Christmas as I’ve improved my beard bauble technique.”

Joel first broke the record in 2019 using 302 baubles, then in 2020 with 542 baubles, and a third time in 2021 with 686 baubles.

Hubby went to Bryan this morning to turn off the vacant unit’s water and blow out as much air as possible.  He asked me what he could fix for breakfast for me, but I declined.  I’ll eat brunch or something later.

When I got up, I remembered that today is Friday, so no meat for me.  I was going to boil some eggs for an egg salad sammich later, but I am prohibited from bending down to get the pot I usually use to boil them in.  I checked my air fryer books, and have six eggs getting “hard boiled” right now – 280 degrees for 15 minutes.

That equipment doesn’t require bending over.  If the eggs come out okay, I may make that my go-to for cooked whole eggs from now on.

I feel a big improvement from yesterday.  I have to remind myself not to push  my boundaries.  That’s how I got into this condition in the first place.  I am more comfortable in bed  now, since I have those bed rails.  It’s amazing how simple things can make such a difference.  Being able to get leverage to push and pull as I roll over and get up and down is sooooo helpful.

Leverage.  Good for so many things.

Oh, thanks for that!  My days have all begun running together.  Hubby said something about taking out the trash this morning, and our trash day is Friday.  I usually put it out by the street on Thursday afternoons, so I guess he’s putting it out early since he’s not sure if he’ll make it back before dark.  And cold.

    The always excellent Don Surber:

The graphic I would like to display on this post is too graphic and bordering on child porn as it depicts a child fellating an older boy. Twitter displayed it here. It is two pages in the book Gender Queer.

Biden’s pushing to force the Granbury, Texas, school district to make the book available at its library to children. This is part of the recruiting effort — grooming — by the LGBT wing of the Democrat Party.

The campaign began with the American Library Association selecting this obscure comic book (marketed as a graphic novel because its paper quality is better than most comic books) as the library association’s book of the year in 2020.

This allows liberals to parade the book around as if it were great literature. These are the same liberals who have tried to ban Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. The left praised To Kill a Mockingbird for 60 years and rightly so. Now it is considered racist.

    and,

AP reported, “The removal of LGBTQ-themed books from the library of the Granbury, Texas, school district is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Education’s civil rights division.

“‘The Office for Civil Rights can confirm that there is an open investigation into Granbury ISD under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972,’ according to a statement Tuesday from the Education Department. ‘We do not comment on pending investigations.’”

The Biden punks want to make an example of Granbury for all parents in the nation.   The Biden Dept of Education wants to kill conservatives’ will to fight by dragging the carcass of parental rights around the Hood County square.

This needs to stop in Granbury.

The only way to do so is to raise holy hell with the politicians who can do something about it.  Granbury is the county seat of Hood County in the 11th Congressional District of Texas represented by Republican August Pfluger of San Angelo.  He is new to Congress, a retired USAF Colonel and fighter pilot who took office in January of 2021.

The House Committee on Education & Labor oversees the Education Department and their Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education Subcommittee is directly responsible for this investigation in Granbury, Texas.  There are no Texas Republican delegation members on this subcommittee unfortunately.  The worse problem is Burgess Owens, R-Utah is the ranking member and he has voted for every cockeyed legislation regarding sexual deviancy offered by the Democrats.

This leaves us with two Texas senators and Rep. Pfluger.  We don’t know who will be on the new committees come January so we’ll have to wait and see.  I’m hoping McCarthy doesn’t appoint Owens to be chair of the newly organized one.

Saw this (and other like it) on Nextdoor:

Sad news my job had layoff , right before Christmas isn’t that insane i worked for quest diagnostic services remotely and they laid us off position and department closing no longer be available out of no where yes they will continue to pay us half of our pay every two weeks basically 40 hrs . Like how can i adapt to that change so suddenly stressed as it is lost my dog my baby recently then this and im just trying remain positive, with that being said if anyone knows overnight jobs hiring has to be overnight due to transportation my husband works during day needs car so im hoping get something overnight please send me referrals or info . I was really trying get into walmart been applying all locations near me as well i have been doing instacart which is truly not paying off ppl tip $2-3 for rides of a 10 plus miles distance sadly . And with instacart you also have to shop for the items its time consuming not profitable , uber eats not working placed me on a wait list as well door dash i signed up for roadie it seems alright but it weekly pay just looking for something stable . I was with the company 2 yrs and it hurt that this is the severance package they offered and only for 60 days smh

When did it start that companies were expected to release employment so gently that it was never felt by the terminated employee?  Why is her former employer so mean as to give her so little severance?

Heck, I was always grateful for my job.  As for severance pay – I don’t think it’s required beyond what hours the employee actually worked.  Extra pay just for being terminated was never a factor in my calculations for accepting or working a job.  It was my responsibility to (1) work so well that the company didn’t want to fire me and (2) live within my means, including setting some savings aside for moments like hers.

She was with a company for only two years and expected – what? – for severance?

I rarely get on Nextdoor, but every time I do, there’s someone laying out their problems for the whole world to see and hoping that folks will give them stuff, like money, or cars, or jobs.  They have every right to ask, I suppose, but there’s one or two ladies whose lives are in constant turmoil and they are always asking for help. They are professional internet panhandlers.

Follow up to my 9:12 posting.  I found this further down the ND postings:

Hi , I saw an episode of judge Judy , Judy’s Justice show today , the story was about this 19 years old guy who goes on the internet asking for help/ money. people falls for his lies and pay him on Zelle, Cash app and other electronic payment to help him out , he never saw these people in person. Good folks thinking that he is young and needs help they helped him. He asked for small amounts but he had 50 other websites ( one of those websites was neighborhood websites) asking hundreds of people for money, and the majority paid him. He said to judge that he didn’t have to work just stay home and beg people for help and they do it, There are lots of suckers out there . unfortunately Good hearted People were paying him not knowing they have been scammed by this young man . Judge Judy asked him how long have you been doing this ? he said, since he was 12 years old. Finally somebody took him to court . Please do not help just about anyone asking you for money or free stuff . The clever way they are doing is that they are not asking for much so you don’t get suspicious . Or they ask for things that doesn’t matter to you like a small amount of money or free items for their kids, KID’S that’s a key to your heart. I know you’re compassionate human and you have a big heart and wanna help but think about it before you help . I was that sucker too , helped others but I’ve learned the hard way. That’s why I’m posting this .Internet becoming a new way of begging for money without working hard for it. They sure changing our good nature.

    I saw a few Tomahawk’s at the Pig yesterday and mentioned it to the boy and he texted back instructions complete with Pictures;

Best thing for Tomahawk is a reverse sear!! Smoke it for 45 mins to an hour at 225 until internal temp is 120-125. Remove, tent with foil. Heat up your cast iron on high heat sear on each side until temp is 130 maybe a min or two each side. Rest for 10 mins topped with salted butter. Temp should finish around 135.

That’s my boy he does a good job with his smoker N grill. When I was there we ate real good and at granddaughter’s birthday party he made a dip using cheese that he’d smoked, it was a big hit.

I couldn’t hire either one of these people.  If they can’t write coherently in complete sentences, they certainly don’t have the basic communication skills for most jobs.  Perhaps they could do manual labor or janitorial work.  I find this to be very sad for this nation.

Side Note: The first woman said she was working for Quest Diagnostics.  They’re a huge company headquartered a few miles from here and I don’t like them.  I noticed the moment I went on Medicare they jacked my annual physical blood test charges from less than $100 to $600-700.  Guess who pays for that ?  Every American taxpayer.  Where is the DOJ on this Medicare fraud ?  It must run into the billions.

Okay, feeling well enough to sit at my desk and …

    RULE NUMBER ONE ☙ Thursday, December 22, 2022 ☙ C&C NEWS

    Here is the roundup:

Good morning on this chilly, snowpocalyptic Thursday, C&C! The horrors of global warming. In today’s roundup: the FBI feeds Americans word salad in its denial of Twitter Files accusations; a family-friendly drag queen Christmas in Florida, of all places; the New York Times panics as China abandons its covid-zero policy; Sam Bankman-Fried’s former girlfriend is throwing him under the bus; and Kari Lake has a great first day of trial.

Childers starts out with the denial by the FBI of the stuff being released in the Twitter files.

One sentence: “It is unfortunate that conspiracy theorists and others are feeding the American public misinformation with the sole purpose of attempting to discredit the agency.”

Okay, before I read on, I see the following in the sentence above:

    1) It is unfortunate:  Not “we’re sorry,” not “those emails are false,” not “we’ll look into these claims”.  It is “unfortunate”.  This implies that those who disseminating the information bear the blame of the stories;  not the FBI, who created the situation.

    2) “Conspiracy theorists”:  Throw out the word “conspiracy” and it magically makes this political wishful thinking, not a criminal case.

    3) “feeding the American public”:  This word picture in my head of a mother feeding her infant epitomizes how the FBI, et al, think of us.  Infants who need to be spoon fed what to believe.

    4) “discredit the agency”:  I don’t think the “Conspiracy theorists” are doing that at all.  Not when the work has already been done by the agency itself.

Okay, I’ll stop there and move on, since it’s Childers’ turn:

Since the FBI couldn’t be bothered to take more than fifteen seconds to respond to the most dishonorable charges against that agency among a long, sordid list of failures over the past few years, and I’m not just thinking of the Whitmer fednapping, I now have to put their entire statement under the C&C microscope. I didn’t want to, but they left me no choice.

    /snip

Anyway, moving to the substance, we have to dig into the FBI’s definition of “misinformation,” which is information that is TRUE but misleading. “Misleading information.” The only way we can interpret this statement is that the FBI confirmed the truth of all those disclosed communications between 80+ FBI agents and Twitter to silence conservatives who were talking about covid or the elections.

    HOW is that mis-information?

    /snip;

Since their communications with Twitter aren’t classified or privileged, unless part of an ongoing criminal investigation, the FBI could release their own batch of exculpatory emails. But they didn’t, so we are left to assume they don’t have any.

I hate to pour salt into the wound (you know I do), but I feel obliged to point out that for two years the FBI also called the Hunter Biden laptop “misinformation” and “a conspiracy theory.” But it was nevertheless true.

“… with the sole purpose of …”

The SOLE purpose? How did the FBI cleverly deduce the singular purpose motivating all the people working on the Twitter files? This is the most grotesque part of the agency’s denial.

    /snip

This clause perfectly illustrates the agency’s biggest problem: An “us versus them” attitude.

“… attempting to discredit the agency.”

Hilarious! First of all guys, you’re doing a perfectly satisfactory job of discrediting yourselves. Conspiracy theorists hardly have to do anything.

Next, “attempting?” This smacks of wishful thinking. The emails released in the Twitter Files HAVE discredited the agency.

Leftists who cheer on the FBI because it hurt conservatives are extremely short-sighted. When the conservatives are all gone, what do leftists think will happen next, with this out-of-control secret police agency? Do they think it will just go back to non-political work, because its job is done?

If that’s what they think, they need to study history a little more.

That has always been my argument in discussions about “hate speech” and “free speech”.  Who gets to dictate what “hate speech” is today?  What about tomorrow?  What if your politically correct mandates on what words to use becomes tomorrow’s “hate speech”?  How would those pc’ers feel about having their speech shut down?  Nope, all speech is free speech, even if it is inconvenient or hurts your widdle feewings.

It’s call adulting, this process of learning how to separate your feelings from other’s actions.  If someone calls me a name, I should be comfortable enough in my own skin to know that what they’re saying is a lie as well as an indicator of deeper psychological problem, and I have the choice to just walk and live my life.  I have a friend who gave me this quote: “Just because someone calls you a chair doesn’t mean you’re a chair.”

The inability to handle one’s emotions separate from the behaviors of others is one definition of codependency.  Liberalism is codependency writ large.  They live for the approval of others and thus are victim to the ebbs and flows of political thought.  Anyone who defies their edicts of “correct thought” destabilizes their emotional safety.  This is where we get the screaming mask Karens and her ilk.

  25. Tedtam Avatar

Skipping stuff, and found myself in China and its turnaround on its draconian WLR policies:

The Times’ sub-headline bitterly complained, “After micromanaging the coronavirus strategy for nearly three years, the country’s leader, Xi Jinping, has suddenly left the populace to improvise.”

They didn’t avoid covid, but you’ve got to hand China’s dictatorial government one thing: They avoided mRNA shots.

Anyway, the Times explained that a couple weeks ago, China finally abandoned its draconian “Covid Zero” approach to the pandemic, which the Times feels left poor Chinese “officials scrambling to manage the disarray and uncertainty.” The Times gloomily reported that “[w]arnings about the dangers of the coronavirus have swiftly disappeared, replaced by official claims that the Omicron variant is generally mild.”

    /snip

…. But the better question is why exactly at this point in the pandemic is the Times so obviously upset about China abandoning Covid-zero?

I’m beginning to suspect the answer is that a lot of liberals were secretly rooting for China to succeed and somehow wipe out covid, because if the communist nation could finally show how successful Covid-zero was, that would silence pandemic response critics. In other words, if Covid-zero worked, we should’ve ALL done it, and that’s what we should do NEXT TIME. It would’ve shown the greatness of the communist system.

Yep, I think he nailed that one.

  26. Tedtam Avatar

    And the daily FTX:

FTX is back in the news. According a statement late yesterday, Caroline Ellison, polysexual millennial and CEO of Sam Bankman-Fried’s personal billion-dollar piggy bank, Alameda Capital, who liked to brag about being “bad at math,” finally did something smart.

She’s singing like a caged canary.

    /snip

The SEC’s announcement yesterday included news that Ellison and FTX co-founder Gary Wang have pleaded guilty and are now cooperating with law-enforcement officials, that Sam Bankman-Fried had been bunged onto a plane, being flown away from his Bahamian prison to the fine facilities in the Southern District of New York, and that he is expected to appear before a judge today.

It sure looks like a few days of the old ‘Bahamian hellhole’ treatment helped convince Sam to stop fighting extradition. Hopefully his lawyers are double-checking the new prison’s security camera systems.

Yeah, I’d be worrying about non-functioning cameras, too.  Epstein doesn’t need any more company.  Or maybe he does….

And Childers reports that Kari Lake’s first day of hearings went very well.  Good for her!  Someone in the Maricopa County ballot office (or whatever office) reduced ballots from 20″ to 19″, thus making them uncountable by the machines. This meant more chaos and required hand counting on election day.

Shrinking the ballot size seems to be an intentional act.  Not something that could be done without knowing that you’re doing it.

I feel the same.  Even more sad is that the one time I pointed this out to someone who had a similar sob story, I was jumped on for criticizing someone in such dire straits.

But I’m with you – if you are asking for a job, everything you do is under scrutiny.  Can’t write a complete sentence in a posting on a social site?  How do I know you won’t do the same at my company?  Do you tend to talk down to people?  How do I know you won’t handle my customers the same way?

    Two examples from real life:

I was looking for an office helper. I usually hired girls, because it was clerical and there was a preponderance of girls applying for those types of jobs.  Surprisingly, one guy applied and he looked really good on paper, and I was going to invite him for an interview.  I got his voicemail, and the message was total ebonics from beginning to end.  He was trying to sound all gangsta.  I hung up and did not call back, because I could see us losing our customers if he was answering the phone.

Secondly, we were trying to rent one of our units, and I looked up one of the applicants on FB. I’m glad I did.  He was all about “down with the white man” and such.  If he had such an attitude towards us before renting from us, how much trouble was he going to be after he moved in?  Nope, I found a tenant who was very happy to have the unit and who actually liked their landlord – despite the fact that they were black, like the first guy.

And I, too, lament our nation’s future if this is what our educational system is turning out.

He, along with the usual scumbags McConnell, Cornholio, Romnutz, et al,  voted yes on the omnibus bill that funded the gov’t until Sept 23.  The power of the purse is in the House and they took that power away when the new House with an R majority was to take over in less than a month.  Every R that voted yes in the Senate should be a lamp post decoration.  Backstabbing traitors they are.

GOP Can’t Be Successful Until Mitch McConnell Is Gone

The Kentucky Republican claimed giving more money to Ukraine is “the No. 1 priority for the United States right now, according to most Republicans.” The new $1.7 trillion Democrat spending bill he enthusiastically supports would give Ukraine another roughly $45 billion in assistance, bringing the total over the past eight months to more than $100 billion, a staggering figure even if it weren’t happening during a time of inflation, looming recession, and other serious domestic problems.

“…according to most Republicans.”  How stupid does he believe we are ?!

Another comment from McConnell also shocked Republicans. Of the $1.7 trillion left-wing spending spree McConnell is working so hard to help Democrats pass, he said, unbelievably, that he was “pretty proud of the fact that with a Democratic president, Democratic House, and Democratic Senate, we were able to achieve through this omnibus spending bill essentially all of our priorities.” As an indication of how deeply sick and broken and unserious the Senate is, no one had even begun to read the lengthy bill, which was put forward just hours before votes began.

    finally,

He is rightly praised for his work in getting conservative judges and justices confirmed and for stopping one liberal judicial nominee, Merrick Garland. It is not praiseworthy, however, that he encouraged President Trump to nominate Garland as attorney general and voted to confirm him when President Biden did nominate him.

I had forgotten about McConnell trying to foist Garland on Trump.  We got the slimy, backstabbing William Barr instead.

I actually despise Mitch McConnell more than the Democrats.  At least they’re honest about what thuggish, totalitarian asshats they are, but Mitch is so arrogant he thinks the Right are so stupid he doesn’t even have to fake it with hypocrisy.

The good news is there is an affiliate of the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) in the UK.

The bad news is the cops in Birmingham arrested a woman for standing on a public sidewalk alone and praying silently near an abortion clinic.  She was not protesting, carried no signs, no photos and spoke to no one.  The clinic personnel must have known she was an anti-abortion and complained because there would be no other reason for the police to show up.

Standing in a public place and silently praying got this woman thrown in jail.

The small, private Emory & Henry College in Virginia is doing its part to address systemic oppression, and this includes taking a look at its mascot — the wasp.

That’s right, a wasp. As in the insect.

This is because, according to an email obtained by the Young America’s Foundation, “wasp” might be mistaken for a certain  acronym meaning.

“The little wasp itself isn’t offensive, but the acronym WASP stands for White Anglo Saxon Protestant,” wrote Emory & Henry Alumni Director Monica Hoel. “It stands to make us seem exclusive of those not in that category.”

Even insects are not safe from the Woke.

I looked around the front yard and decided to fetch some of the old sheets in the garage to cover a few sensitive shrubs. Grabbed 2 of the styrofoam hose-connector covers, also. By the time I had gotten situated at the first bush, it started raining on me. I gave up and threw everything back in the garage. Came back inside and made a cup of hot chocolate to warm up.

Yeah, but the UK had Brexit over sovereignty and now they are arresting people standing in the street silently praying.  Frankly, dissolving the EU would be a huge step forward, but it obviously doesn’t confer sanity on the state or automatically produce moral and ethical politicians.  I had such high hopes for the Brits.

The original schedule had me taking the mr’s with every other dose of pain killers.  Not any more.  Add in the stool softeners that I’m taking because of the opiates, and yeah, I really need to keep track.

The wind really blowing harder and harder now so we much go rescue Old Glory from the front porch before it gets blown away.  The Christmas teddy bear banner on the other side of the porch doorway is likewise in peril.  Wind is strong enough to send them flying into the side pasture of even farther into the neighboring pasture. Rescue accomplished.

The sky is a mournful gray, but we’ve thus far escaped any rain and hope it stays that way. The fast temp decline is here, down to 39 now with a ways to go yet if the weather guessers are right about tonight.  It was 45 at 6am today….

And moving on to the further uncooperative weather, O’Hare airport near Chicago had cancelled 400 flights by noon because of terrible weather wind conditions topped by freezing rain.  Several other airports elsewhere in the country did likewise.   However, the weather has not abated and will likely mess up other areas for flights because planes can’t get in to or get out of O’Hare.  Can you just imagine what O’Hare, the second largest airport in the US, looks like now with passengers trying to go just about everywhere in the nation all jammed together because they can’t fly out?  Bet there will be pictures of that on the evening newscasts.

We can imagine what it must be like now since we flew to O’Hare on the way to Madison in October when it was mucho busy as normal for it then, and rather full of pedestrians trying to get to connecting gates like we did.  We had to go halfway across the entire width of the place at a fast walk.  Made it to the plane to Madison about 20 minutes before it was to leave.  But that was only a 20 or so minute flight, more or less up and then down.

First, about Marco Rubio, not that it makes much difference now, however…

Four voted against the bill after voting to advance it:

    • Tommy Tuberville, Alabama
    • Marco Rubio, Florida
    • Chuck Grassley, Iowa
    • Cindy Hyde-Smith, Mississippi

    The bill has 6,825 pages:

    • 4,155 pages dedicated to legislation
    • 2,670 pages for explanations

Attached to the bill are 4,000 earmarks for pet projects.

Now I thought I had done that online before, but it didn’t appear that I had a reusable account. So I started one from scratch, took about 30 minutes for all the verifications to get approved. But at the end I put the new sticker on my Discover card and the job will be done when it arrives in the mail.

Well it’s 53 degrees here and if we’re going to hit 21 by daylight we’ve got to shed 30 degrees or so pretty quickly. Oh and I turned the water off at the Farm House, I’m pretty sure it would be fine but since no one is there I may as well shut it off. It’s been a couple of years since I turned off the water and I had a hell of a time getting the valve to turn. We’ve been watching a few episodes of The Crown, a series about Queen Elizabeth II’s life and reign.  Understand it is very well done and accurate or the Brits would be furious and looking for blood.  So would the royal family.

We’ve got all the NW facing windows’ draperies drawn against the cold wind coming from that direction. And though the windows are double pane and very good on stopping summer heat and winter cold from sneaking in the house, the draperies shut out what little cold or heat sneaks in.  We are of an age that is accustomed to draw draperies for most window coverings rather than window shades other than on the kitchen and garden room windows.  Those windows are also double pane with window shades that cover the glass when needed.

The double pane windows are standard in the frozen north homes, so we thought they would be just as handy here against the heat as they are against the cold.  And they are. But when we built this house and insisted on them, the builder was surprised we wanted them since they are more expensive, though lots of newer homes now have them.  And up north many homes have triple-pane windows that are even better against the cold.
