We went on a trip to Kalifornia in the early 00’s, oldest son was in his teens. We made a quick stop at a McDonalds one day and oldest son orders a Texas Homestyle Burger. Lol, lady just looked at him.
I do remember you mentioning that place. You are lucky to have a touch of home up there in Yankee land. The first time I went to Kalifornia, with NASA, we stopped at a “Texas Burger” place in Palmdale and the burger was fair to middling but definitely NOT a Texas burger.

In my experience, hard core beer drinkers don’t do a lot of brand exploration. The craft beer thing always seemed to me to be form of satisfying recreation for the occasional (yet enthusiastic) beer drinker.
Ive tried a disappointing few. I’m sure there are some that I would like. Just never had the opportunity to search.

Grumpy’s was the best CFS ever, sure miss it but it has been gone a very long time. Second best CFS was the Rodeway Inn’s restaurant on I10 and somewhere around Bunker Hill during the 70’s. It was open all night and several of us would go there after hitting the clubs, which may have influenced it being so high… Read more »
I have decided that one of the ingredients in those spicy HEB Charro beans that makes them so good is also the reason they do not keep long as leftovers in the fridge. Day or two max, in my opinion.

We had a small weather system come through about an hour ago. Noisy thunder, a few gusts of swirly wind, but nothing to challenge the wind storm we had last night. I was surprised to see that while I wasn’t paying attention, we did get a little more rain.
Shannon, get a large can of La Castono refried beans, a regular can of HEB Charro’s, a couple of pieces of bacon (with grease) and one diced onion. The best chicken fried steak I ever ate was at Grumpy’s in Flatonia. I was a regular there.
Second best CFS in line was the Bon-Ton in downtown La Grange. However, I would go out of my way to stop there just to eat their incredible fresh pies. I’ve never had anything like them since.
SuperDave, I DOOOO understand… I’ve been accused of never going the same way ONCE… (well, except for to our house – there’s only one way into the subdivision… And I wish Sam’s would bring back the Chicken Kiev ones… but broccoli-cheese and cordon bleu are the only ones we ever find around here anymore….

My lovely wife majored in biochemical engineering with the intent to become a doctor. She even took the MCAT. Through the years more than one doctor or nurse have asked her if she were a doctor simply by the questions she asked.

MHarper builder grade fireplaces are notoriously inefficient which means 70 plus percent of the heat just goes up the flue. It may look pretty but that is about it. The stove I bought is close to 90% efficient which means the wood will burn hotter and longer. This means you can put logs in at 10 pm and you will… Read more »
