Morning Gang – prayin’ all came thru the holiday weekend intact… Sounded like a war zone out here in unincorporated Monkey County… but that’s nothing new

BTW Shannon… that’s a gorgeous shot of the Palo Duro there… My cousin used to live in Canyon, and took me to see the musical they do/did down in the canyon one summer nite. One of the first times I ever remember the hair on my arms standing on end was at the beginning of the production when a lone rider on horseback galloped around the lip of the canyon, carrying the Texas flag, just at sunset.

Well, I finally booked a flight for Thursday.  I will have spent 3 weeks away from my girls in Jersey.  Her Highness, Talia and Libby were beginning to think I was never coming back.

I was in Oregon for a week before leaving again for Texas so I’ve been gone over a month since June 2.

I had made a solar oven some years ago, but the pieces are long gone.

Looking for plans to make a new one.

Of course, with the temps we’ve been having, I could just chuck a frozen chicken into a dark enamel pot and let ‘er cook all on its own.

Bsue – I finished watching your 54 lbs of food video. I really want to do some mushrooms. Now that my beef is finished (just need to seal it up), I have a bank run to make with rents coming in.

While I’m out, I’ll swing by the thrift store and see if I can clean ’em out of canning jars again. Don’t want to go tomorrow-that’s seniors day and it gets CRAZY in there on Wednesdays. I’m going to go by the store, too, and pick up some more frozen veggies.

I love working with frozen vegetables: they are usually very fresh and have already been blanched when they were processed coming off the farm. No slicing, blanching, or washing needed.

I also noticed this at her video:

54 pounds of dehydrated food in four days! Building your Preppers Pantry is easy to do when you have a dehydrator and a Food Saver! Dehydrated vegetables can last for over 25 years and make a great source of vitamins and nutrients for any food shortage / SHTF / doomsday scenario!

$70 DISCOUNT OFF the All American SUN OVEN with Dehydrating and Preparedness Accessory Package or a $50 DISCOUNT OFF the All American SUN OVEN:

Since I’m looking at solar ovens….I wonder if this discount is still working? I was watching Doug & Stacy Homesteading last night and they were obviously working a commercial angle with the Sun Oven folks, but the product looked pretty good. Floating rack that self levels would be a great feature.

  13. bsue54 Avatar

Tedtam,  I was intrigued by the mushrooms, but unless I was able to find a super deal on a BUNCH of mushrooms, more than likely, I’d just keep buying the case lot of canned ones from Sam’s…

The looming 2024 campaign season, which unofficially begins in January 2023, is shaping up to be entertaining as all get out.
California’s Gavin Newsom is already running while burdened with historically unprecedented baggage from destroying his own state.  The clinically delusional Liz Cheney is going to run in the GOP primaries while Arkansas’ Asa Hutchison may yet be the most clueless candidate in modern history.  The other question is who is whispering in Mike Pompeo’s ear telling him he’s vastly popular in the Midwest ?

OK, birds are fed, animal water troughs are full, flowers are soaked, ant beds are treated, and I even worked in cleaning the patio sliding glass panes to improve the outside view.  I should take the rest of the day off, but I may run a dust rag around a little bit, and if I get truly inspired, run the vacuum as well.  Library opens in an hour, so still got time to kill.

I can’t help but feel this is Deja Vu all over again.

Trump brings in thousands of people to all of his rallies and by comparison

    Bidet can’t draw flies.

Somehow 84 million people come out of the wood work and vote for him?

The fix was in for 2020 and the Fix is still in until States get serious about Truing The Vote.

The clock is ticking and it might be already to late to implement and fix the Fraud at the voting booth before November.

Corruption has a firm grip on America right now and as long as the money keeps flowing nothing will change.

    Just my 2 cents.

The J6 Debacle was created to convince America that Trump is a Treasonous Insurrectionist thus nullifying is ability to Run Again for President.

It is my fervent hope that Trump is engaged in a massive and prolonged head fake to make it look like he’s running right up until the moment he tells folks that he’s not going to run and endorse DeSantis. He could give any number of “I love my country, that’s why.” excuses that would send his folks to the polls to vote for DeSantis. The deal would be sealed, I think, if DeSantis picked a relatively Conservative Democrat as his running mate and run on a Unity ticket. Tulsi Gabbard would be my choice. Not only would something like that bring in Democrats disaffected with the Left Wing Extremists who have taken over the Democrat Party, but it would poke a stick in the eye of the Establishment of both Parties.

Well I am gonna take the DeSantis/Gabbard to a higher level of what I think of that suggestion.

A house or kingdom divided cannot stand.  There is also the Biblical principle warning against being unequally yoked.

Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness?

I can see no good coming from this idea.  Look at Israel today.  Once again their government is dissolved because the prime minister to get elected formed a coalition that included Palestinians.

and then I will tell ya my trust and faith is not in man.  How many times I have heard if we have this guy or that guy in office we can get this ship turned around and back on course.  what i have discovered:

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    Than to trust in man.

    and

“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
    And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the Lord.

I vote for who i think is best and go back to what I am supposed to do.  Man created this mess and only God is able to clean it up.

Who hurt you? Canned mushrooms bear zero resemblance to actual mushrooms.

Just go to your basic Asian grocery store or online and get dried ones. You can steep them in warm water (or stock, etc.) and they taste a lot better than canned. Plus you’re not limited to just white button or the young portobello ones.

One more comment and then back to work or one more beer? Haven’t decided yet.

Samuel was the last judge (1 Sam 7:6, 15‑17) and first prophet (3:20; Acts 3:24; 13:20) as a result of the Israelites insisting on having A King like all the other nations.

Saul turned out to be a disaster but the Israelites kept trying, convinced their way was right.

Kinda like Communism. The mantra from the left is, Communism just hasn’t been tried in the it’s true form.

Samuel was deeply grieved but continued on his path given by God.

Back from nap.  It’s very apparent that mh is ready for her nap.  As to a Rep picking a Dem, that’s a guaranteed inpeachment on day 1 assuming the Rep wins.  Immediately the Dems take charge again.  Perhaps Sarge has gotten a little too close to the tent glue on one of his repair jobs.  If Tulsi wants to convert, fine – make her Playmate of the Month or something.  Realistically, DeSantis is the logical nominee, with Trump playing the kingmaker role.  As has been proven time and time again, the VP selection doesn’t mean anything except perhaps being from a toss up state that we might need to carry – then it’s off to heads of state funeral for the rest of the term.

We should be focusing our attention here in Teas on finding a solution to the Cornholio problem.  There are no limits to which the Dems won’t go to get rid of an undesirable, but they love Cornholio, so they will provide not help and in fact will provide support for him.  So we’ll have to go this alone.  He should be hounded from office at every public sighting, berated from the floor of both the House and the Senate, shouted down at every opportunity, ads run against him, lies fabricated and told against him – whatever it takes.  It’s difficult to have any respect for anyone’s political suggestions so long as Cornholio remains in office.

The Claim: James Kosur, senior adviser for the website Really American, tweeted Monday morning: “Just a reminder that Candace Owens tried to make money off liberals by running a very liberal blog. When she failed to get money out of liberal who are too smart to buy her crappy writing and brand, she suddenly became ultra-conservative,” in a post that received about 10,000 likes and 2,400 retweets.

Owens, 31, became one of the most recognizable and outspoken voices of the Republican Party shortly after “coming out” as a conservative in her 2017 YouTube video titled “Mom, Dad….I’m a Conservative.”

Before that, Owens was the CEO of a blog on the website Degree180 that featured articles on a variety of topics from lifestyle and culture pieces to political commentary written by Owens and various contributors. The site is no longer active.

Some of the site’s content, which has been archived and is accessible through the Internet Archive, criticized Trump, whom Owens now publicly supports, and conservatives.

Owens wrote an article criticizing the then-status of the party she currently aligns with in an October 2015 post titled “NEWS UPDATE: THE REPUBLICAN TEA PARTY IS LED BY THE MAD HATTER.”

She wrote that Degree180 launched an unofficial “full-scale investigation into the bat-s***-crazy antics of the Republican Tea Party.”

“The good news is, they will eventually die off (peacefully in their sleep, we hope), and then we can get right on with the OBVIOUS social change that needs to happen, IMMEDIATELY,” Owens wrote in her blog post.

She then wrote detailed elaborations under three points of social change that should be expected when “that last tea-party coffin is sealed.”

A few of Degree180 contributors’ articles critiqued Trump such as one piece titled “Serious Question: Is Donald Trump A Social Experiment?” that mentioned Trump’s “racist, bigoted and downright offensive” actions before concluding her theory that he is a “social experiment.”

While content criticizing Trump was present on Degree180, some posts also criticized Trump’s 2016 presidential election opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Although the site had articles that criticized Trump and the Republican Party, Degree180 did not include only liberal voices.

In the blog post titled “@LIBERALS: I’M A CONSERVATIVE, AND THAT’S OKAY TOO,” a contributor defended her conservative views after she said she grew up in a blue state arguing that there are “many different strains of conservatism.”

Toward the end of 2016, Degree180’s blog appeared to stop publishing new content.

Newsweek reached out to Owens for comment.
    The Ruling
    Mostly True.

Candace Owens was in charge of Degree180’s blog that contained blog posts on a range of topics from mostly liberal but occasionally conservative voices, although critiques of Trump frequently appeared on the site.

Much of Owens’ authored content on the site was not entirely politically focused, but she did write one post critiquing the Republican Party in 2015 before announcing on YouTube in 2017 that she had become a conservative.

Tedtam, I have another canning question… In diving thru some canning stuff linked to the vegetable lady from yesterday, I ran across directions for canning hamburger patties, and was wondering if you’ve ever tried it. I’ve never done the hamburger crumbles but was planning on trying some, when I find a sale… and the site  practicalselfreliance.com had directions for both the crumbles AND patties – which I’d seen but never had such a thorough description of before.  The crumbles sound pretty straight forward – and she said that she’s found that the seasonings for taco meat seem to work pretty well canned… I think I’d prolly stick to plain, so I could use it for something else if that’s the way the spirit was moving that day (it’d really be a shame to have one jar of crumbles left, and be craving Hamburg stroganoff and find you’d pre-seasoned that jar for tacos LOL)

    Politics aside for a moment.

I finally finished watching Terminal List.

It moved very slow at the beginning but picked up rapidly. Too many flash backs though.

    General theme:

Elite Grunt gets caught up in the Military and Political Money machine.

Pretty good plot but predictable at times.

If you are looking for hours of escapism?

    This is your show.

I liked it but nobody asked!

Would I pay to see it?

    No.

OK back to the Political debate.

The Dems have a Plan but the Republicans are still leading from behind.

The Vampyre goops lead from behind because those phony baloney perpetual losers really have no desire to win.

They have a great deal as it is right now laundering billions in blood money via busted open borders and endless wars. Look how quickly they went back to their walking undead ways after they helped dispatch Trump with the fraudulent election.

The Texas Cornhole is in the chute again, ready to back stab in the form of forthcoming CRT and amnesty bills.

He’s the point man stooge and fall guy, hand picked by the wretched Kentucky Swamp Turtle, to assist in throwing the election.

I watched The Offer over three nights. Very good flick if you like “History of Hollywood” flicks. Tells the story of the making of The Godfather through the eyes of the Executive Producer. I think they stretch the truth a bit but I think they stick to the basic story and capture the people involved well.

Dinner time again – burger patty with cheddar cheese and more home made skwash.  Still pretty tasty.  Got some things done today, which is somewhat out of character for me here lately.  Hot today, and progressively hotter each day this week.  I think it started off just too hot for my mater plants to ever set any fruit.  I’ve not seen one single tomato trying to form up despite healthy, blooming plants.

Nothing else to report on for now.  More later.

I’ve done patties for breakfast sausage, not hamburger. I haven’t tasted any of them yet, but I think patties may end up a better texture than ground. I’m simply drying ground beef from now on.

That said, I’m back from running errands. I stopped at the thrift shop and found a few jars, a metal banana holder (the plastic ones always break), a metal shelf that I have already put to work to double my storage capacity on one of my shelves upstairs. The banana holder is one of those that would sell for $14-20 retail, and I got it for $2, IIRC. I also found a hair dryer, which means I can now do hot oil heat treatments on this crazy mane of mine. $5. I also found a vintage Singer sewing machine, but reluctantly put it back. Those things were made like tanks, to last. I hope it goes to a good home.

Then I went to Aldi’s and found decent prices on some berries and mushrooms, and I also picked up some bell peppers of various colors and some poblano peppers. I think I’m going to dry the poblanos as halves, so I can stuff ’em later. If I decide to use them for seasoning I can always cut ’em up then.

Junior is now back up in his tree and I have berries soaking in some vinegar water to clean ’em, so I’m going out to water. Parts of my garden look very distressed.

Junior is tolerating my presence much better. I was refilling his big(ger) green pan of water, and I thought he’d flown off to roost for the night but I looked up and there he was! We were eyeball to eyeball at about 6 feet, the closest he’d ever gotten to me. He actually let me whisper sweet nothings to him. Well, it was louder than a whisper, but in the past he’d flown off at the sound of my voice. I think he’s finally getting to understand that I mean him no harm. He sees me now, I think, as the Bringer of Water.

And I killed a bunch more of those dadblasted sap suckers. I can tell they’ve affected one of my bigger ‘maters. I actually found mom sucker having dinner with her kids.

    Not any more.

Shoot there was a moose sitting in a lawn chair drinking a Lonestar watching the cars fly over his head.  I love that stuff.  Only in America are we still free to be kids and do what sone people call stupid stuff.

Alaska is probably one of the strictest states in America when it comes to protecting nature and the land.  At least they understand that people need to let off some steam. We are talkin about a state where it freezes 6-8 months out of the year and has permanent dark for 6 months.

I need to find a demolition derby to treat you and BSue to. That is F U N.

#85 – Banana holder??? Like the “arm” to hold a “hand” of bananas while they ripen? I wound up with one that is made of wood, wide green base with a natural wood “arm” and a brass hook. I think we got it at an estate sale for free about a million years ago…

I decided to leave the veggies for my “boneless rib dinner in a jar” batch to soak over nite, because Walt fed me a rib-eye steak that was tooooooo good, and I lost my motivation.  I have decided that I want to brown the rib strips and do a hot pack – and I just can’t make myself get up and do that at this time of nite – knowing after I get the canner up to jiggling, it’s 90 minutes, then wait for the pressure to drop so I can take the jars out… I’d rather leave the “elements” in their individual sealed up containers over nite in the fridge, brown the meat, and heat the broth, and… and… and… in the morning than stay up til midnite waiting for the canner to unlock – I don’t want to leave them in the canner over-night…

Nice idea about the poblano halves!!! And I’m glad Junior is still gracing ya’ll with his presence. We have one in the neighborhood – never can tell where we’re gonna see him – the funniest spot was up on top of the guard light at Walt’s baby bro’s house next door, 10-12 feet up in the air…

Ninety Five?! Y’all have been busy but I have also, I worked on the fence line for 6 ½ hours and I’m Tarred. I did get the rest of the invasive trees whacked down and tossed on the other side of the fence, I’ll get out in the morning a chop them up with the wood chipper. About 4:30 the wife wanted to ride down to the pond to check the water level so I went with her, that way Lil Dawg wanted to go. Wife had tried to convince her that she should go since she loves that sort of thing but she didn’t want to go until I told her to “Load Up” and she went ballistic barking her fool head off,….I do Love that Dawg. 😉

Ain’t it the truth and does Liz Cheney NOT realize that she’ll be retired from the Senate in the fall?!?! What a MO-RON.

Got the bell peppers out of Fred, berries in.

I tried slicing strawberries with one of those egg slicer thingies. It did save me some time, but the wires seem loose now. Still works, but I’m interested in seeing how long the dollar store item stays together.

I also did two containers of blueberries. They were a PITA, since I needed to poke each one so they’d dry from the inside. When an item dries and hardens on the outside but is still moist on the inside, that’s called “case hardened”. Case hardened food is still a mold risk…so, poking each one is a safety issue, though it’s tedious.

Next up, straining the ghee when it’s finished. I’m going to try to get some exercise in, since I didn’t do it earlier. Then I need to wash dishes. Hubby’s experiencing severe pain again. He went to the chiropractor, who suspects some scar tissue may be causing problems. He was prescribed some pain killers, but I just got through taking his socks off his feet, because he couldn’t do it. I guess I’m going to have to step up and do more for him, until we get this sorted out. Hoping a second surgery isn’t needed.

#101 – Tedtam –  I watched a video where the guy said to put the blueberries in a plate or shallow bowl, and “stab” several at a time with a fork – if they get to the dehydrator tray, they have been punctured.. seemed like a reasonable suggestion to me but then our dehydrator hasn’t been delivered yet

  101. Tedtam Avatar

That would’ve been quicker. I thought about getting a fork, but..for some reason…

103 Tedtam – another source says to prep the blueberries by dipping them into boiling water for 30 seconds them dip them in ice water, which will start the skin to split, and allow them to dry on the inside.
