Clarence Thomas wants to make it easier to sue media companies for libel

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas signaled his willingness on Monday to undo a 1964 ruling that makes it difficult to sue media outlets for libel.

The conservative justice, who was one of five votes to overturn the landmark abortion ruling Roe v. Wade on Friday, issued a dissenting opinion after the high court refused to hear a case brought by a Christian group that sued the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Coral Ridge Ministries Media filed suit against the SPLC, a left-leaning watchdog, after it labeled the Christian organization a hate group.

The lawsuit sought to upend the precedent established by New York Times v. Sullivan, the 1964 court case which set a high bar for public officials to sue for defamation.

“I would grant certiorari in this case to revisit the ‘actual malice’ standard,” Thomas wrote in his dissent.

“This case is one of many showing how New York Times and its progeny have allowed media organizations and interest groups ‘to cast false aspersions on public figures with near impunity.’”

Thomas wrote: “SPLC’s ‘hate group’ designation lumped Coral Ridge’s Christian ministry with groups like the Ku Klux Klan and Neo-Nazis.”

“It placed Coral Ridge on an interactive, online ‘Hate Map’ and caused Coral Ridge concrete financial injury by excluding it from the AmazonSmile donation program.”

The justice continued: “Nonetheless, unable to satisfy the ‘almost impossible’ actual-malice standard this Court has imposed, Coral Ridge could not hold SPLC to account for what it maintains is a blatant falsehood.”

Another conservative justice, Neil Gorsuch, concurred with Thomas’ view that New York Times v. Sullivan should be revisited.

The Supreme Court decided Sullivan in 1964, after a federal district court in Alabama found that a civil rights organization’s ad in the New York Times had damaged the reputation of an Alabama sheriff who was identified by implication in the ad.

Sullivan established a higher standard for public officials and public figures to prove defamation of character.

They would have to prove actual malice on the part of the accused defamer, that the publication had acted with “reckless disregard for the truth.”

Prayers for GJT as I reviewed late post from last night!

The Supreme Court is finally starting to do what they should have been doing all along and Clarence is taking the lead.

Disrespecting members of the highest Court in the Nation should have consequences. As the Dems are certain to find out.

Gotta go feed Cats but looking forward to what this day has too offer.

My apologies for letting time slip away  without any updates, partly due to there not being any, partly because I keep nodding out from the pain meds while “blogging” and getting to the end to make a comment lol. Legs still very painful to walk on but I can get up to take care of myself and meds pretty well keep the pain away. I think the doctors found the less humorous side of my wife yesterday and things will get moving along more quickly now. I do not deserve her. Thank you guys for checking on me.

Yup, a three alarm “Karen” will do it every time. I did that at U of A Birmingham Med Center back in 1986 when my dad was waiting for a triple bypass. This was after driving 9 hours and with the old El Camino’s tongue hanging out. 😉

Morning gang.  It rained here a bit last night, and I slept in real good.  I always sleep good when it’s rainy.  1.1″ according to my rain gauge, and that’s a lot out here.  My grass should start turning green here again soon.

Going to head out to the TOK here shortly.  Good to hear from GJT, and hope for a quick solution.  Nothing else to report this early in the morning.  You all have a great day.

I wonder if it was something he said?

In February 2021, Stenger told the Senate Homeland Security Committee that the role of ‘professional agitators’ needed to be investigated.

He said: ‘There is an opportunity to learn lessons from the events of January 6.

This popped up; 1963 Johnson 75 Hp V4 Electramatic.
I only post this because this outboard had an electronically shifted dog clutch and as expected it failed miserably. It may have been worse than the 1958 Mk 75, 60 HP I-6, from Mercury. It had a single lever that you started in forward or you started in reverse. The engine had two distributors, one timed for CW and one CCW and a reversible starter. Insane? YES! The reason is that Mercury added two cylinders to it’s inline 4 and were concerned that the dog clutch in the lower unit couldn’t handle the torque so the prop was directly connected the engine.
FWIW; A two stroke doesn’t have valves so there it has no timing issues mechanically, (cams and such) only electronically, (spark/spark advance).

Walter Cronkite, the former television anchor once described as the most trusted man in America, went sailing Tuesday with President Clinton, whose credibility has sunk in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

I’m careful to not disparage Walter in some circles because some people still want to believe the Block Quote.

    My deceased Grandfather for one.

Chet Huntley and David Brinkley were a close second as “God Like” in Grandpas Eyes. My brother and I lived with him for about 8 months in 1961 and watched Walter et al every night. I still remember Walter saying The Dow was up an 1/8 today.

    *COVID NEWS AND COMMENTARY*

In a 6-3 decision released yesterday, the Supreme Court expanded religious rights for government employees, ruling in favor of a part-time Christian public high school football coach in Washington state who was fired for refusing to stop leading prayers with players on the field after games.

Writing for the majority, Justice Gorsuch rejected the local school district’s arguments that prayers and Christian values in a public school could be seen as coercive to students, or as the government’s endorsement of a particular religion, in violation of First Amendment religious liberty rights. The Court held that Kennedy’s conduct was protected by his own personal rights under the First Amendment.

In other words, religion isn’t just something you do in private.

Gorsuch explained, “Respect for religious expressions is indispensable to life in a free and diverse republic – whether those expressions take place in a sanctuary or on a field, and whether they manifest through the spoken word or a bowed head.”

The opinion also did some critical cleanup work on prior religious liberty doctrines, effectively killing off a nasty one called the Lemon test.
The 1971 Lemon test requires all government activity to have a secular purpose. Overriding Lemon, the Court now says there is a better approach, and there’s no such thing as a “modified heckler’s veto,” where a speech by a government employee that includes religious references can be banned just because one person or even some people might be offended.

Congratulations to Coach Joe Kennedy—this is a win for the free exercise of religion and free speech, so it’s a win for all Americans! Today #SCOTUS underscored that expressions of our religious beliefs should not be singled out or suppressed by the gov’t.

The Fifth Circuit reversed a lower court, putting the freeze back on Biden’s vaccine mandate for federal workers. Now the case will return to the lower court to re-hear the arguments with the full panel of all judges, not just the original three-judge panel that set aside the injunction.

At this point, there’re a LOT of good reasons to ashcan the mandates. Here’s hoping the full panel does the right thing.

You know, conservatives have somehow lived with the Supreme Court stampeding the culture to the left — for decades. But when the Court pushes the culture back toward the right for two weeks, woke progressives scream for protests, riots, Court-packing, radical restructuring, jurisdiction-stripping, assassinating justices, and suicide-bombing the Supreme Court. I am not making that up.

    Chill, people.

Fox News reported on another blockbuster Supreme Court decision late last week in a story headlined, “Supreme Court Gun Decision Shoots Down NY Rule That Set High Bar for Concealed Carry Licenses.”

In the lengthy opinion, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that New York’s regulations made it too hard to get a concealed-carry license, are unconstitutionally restrictive, and it should be easier to obtain the license.

“We know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need… we agree… ordinary, law-abiding citizens have a {} right to carry handguns publicly for their self-defense… and now hold… that the Second and Fourteenth Amendments protect an individual’s right to carry a handgun for self-defense outside the home,” Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for the majority.

Thomas continued, “Put simply, there is no historical basis for New York to effectively declare the island of Manhattan a ‘sensitive place’ simply because it is crowded and protected generally by the New York City Police Department.”

Justice Thomas appears to be finally having his time.
[…and making Roberts inconsequential, and appropriately so…..]

In gun-free Nigeria, the government is pivoting. ZeroHedge ran a story yesterday headlined, “Nigerian Governor Orders Mass Issuance Of Gun Permits To Counter Murderous Hordes.”
Historically, it was almost impossible for Nigerian citizens to get a carry license. But now, in the face of rampant violence by huge gangs of heavily armed bandits, one state governor has ordered the mass issuance of gun permits to citizens desperate for a chance to protect themselves.

The Associated Press was skeptical. What are these gun things of which you speak? It pondered, “It was not yet clear how arming citizens would help prevent the attacks; authorities have admitted that even the Nigerian police are sometimes overwhelmed during violent attacks.”

Arming citizens? How can THAT help against bandits with guns? But arming Ukrainians, that’s a different story. Arming Ukrainians makes perfect sense. But Nigerians? C’mon, man.

The AP ran a story yesterday headlined, “More Than 1 Million Voters Switch to GOP in Warning for Dems.” Haha! And hopefully they’re not sleepers! The AP doesn’t seem to think so, since the switch occurred over the last year, as 1M voters in 43 states switched their party affiliations, in both Democratic and Republican states, and in both big cities and small towns.

The AP said, “nowhere is the shift more pronounced — and dangerous for Democrats — than in the suburbs, where well-educated swing voters who turned against Trump’s Republican Party in recent years appear to be swinging back.”

Welcome back! Now you’ve seen what it’s like under democrat rule. Don’t make that mistake again.

    *THE MINORITY REPORT*

Escalation! Yesterday, NATO spokesman Jens Stoltenberg said, “A broad dialogue between NATO and Russia is no longer possible.” Wait, you meant there HASN’T been a broad dialogue so far? Weird.

NATO also announced it is increasing the number of rapid reaction forces — in other words, troops — from 40,000 to 300,000 soldiers. That’s a big jump. It also said it plans to increase operations in Russia’s neighbor, Georgia, because nothing in recent history that I can think of would suggest that would irritate Russia or anything.

    ***************************

NATO’s escalation appears to be a direct response to a HUGE story you can’t easily find in Western Media. Yesterday, Business Insider ran a quiet story headlined, “Russia and China Are Brewing Up a Challenge to Dollar Dominance by Creating a New Reserve Currency.”

China and Russia announced late last week they are creating a competing “Eurasian IMF” plus a new commodities-backed reserve currency. One implication is that countries who join could have no incentive to pay back international debts in Dollars and Euros.

“We are ready to openly work with all fair partners,” Putin announced at the BRICS Business Forum last week. ING’s global head of markets Chris Turner explained to investors that the move “will allow BRICS to build their own sphere of influence and unit of currency within that sphere.”

The new currency is not really a ‘new’ reserve currency. The “SDR” is based on a basket of currencies made up of the Dollar, the Euro, the British Pound, the Japanese Yen, and China’s Yuan. In other words, it would replace the Dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

It’s smart. Nobody has to bet on an all-new currency. And right now, the other currencies in the basket are looking a lot stronger than the Dollar.

Thanks Joe Biden! Gosh, that was fast.

    ***************************

Biden’s bellicose confidence looks to be wilting like a warmed-up lettuce
garnish that sat too long under the heater before being served. In the wee hours at 2AM this morning, CNN released a story — read by a handful of bleary-eyed insomniacs before it was buried under the regular morning news — headlined “Biden Officials Privately Doubt That Ukraine Can Win Back All of Its Territory.” It’s the most fact-filled and truthful story CNN has run in three years.

You might need to sit down first, if you’ve been believing the official corporate media narrative about how Russia has been badly losing, confounded by the brave and diverse freedom-fighting Ukrainians, who’ve been heroically assisted by chiseled CIA commandos and NATO’s glorious unified support, all while relentless economic sanctions have shrunk the Russian bear into a miniature Pomeranian. Or something.

Anyway, it turns out all that wasn’t exactly true. But they had good intentions.

Anonymous U.S. officials told CNN that the White House is losing confidence that Ukraine will EVER be able to take back all of the land it has lost to Russia, even when it gets the heavier and more sophisticated weaponry the US and its allies are planning to send. The second sentence of the article drops this MOAB:

“Advisors to President Joe Biden have begun debating internally how and whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should shift his definition of a Ukrainian ‘victory’ — adjusting for the possibility that his country has shrunk irreversibly… Internally, there is a sense among some in the Biden administration that Zelensky will need to start moderating expectations for what Ukrainian forces can realistically achieve.”

Okay, this is all a horrible tragedy and a living nightmare for Ukraine’s people, and I don’t want to zip by that grim fact too quickly. But come on. You have to admit the sentence I quoted above is comedic GOLD. (“That’s gold, Jerry! Gold!”)

They’re not figuring out how to win the ACTUAL war. Biden wants to lend Zelenskyy his best POLITICAL weapon: redefining stuff.
Like “covid deaths,” “cases,” or even “woman,” for that matter. Things not going your way? Just change the definition and voilá! You’re back in business.

So Biden is telling Zelenskyy, c’mon man, all you need to do is change the definition of ‘victory’ to something you can handle, and it’s all good. But Zelenskyy is thinking, I won’t last ten seconds after I sign a peace deal that gives away half the country, and who is this old guy and why does he keep sniffing my daughter’s hair?

Following the traditional recipe, CNN then consulted its handpicked experts. A “US military official” and a “source familiar with Western intelligence” (another reporter!) agreed “it was unlikely that Ukraine would be able to mass the force necessary to reclaim all of the territory lost to Russia during the fighting — especially this year.”

The article reports that according to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces now control more than half of the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk. Ukraine was forced to retreat from the key eastern city of Severodonetsk on Friday after weeks of bloody battles. Russian forces also captured ground around Lysychansk, the last city in the eastern Luhansk region still controlled by Ukraine. Ukrainian military commanders are now grappling with the reality that they may have to withdraw from that area and try to defend territory to the west.

Worse, Ukraine appears to lack any ability to mount an effective counterassault. CNN said “Ukraine has struggled to repel Russia’s advances in the Donbas and has suffered staggering troop losses, reaching as many as 100 soldiers per day. Ukrainian forces are also burning through their equipment and ammunition faster than the West can provide.”

As if that weren’t bad enough, the ENTIRE WORLD is burning through ammo. At least, for the kinds of weapons the Ukrainians use. The article reported that the U.S. and its allies “have been scrounging the world for the kind of Soviet-era ammunition that fits the equipment Ukraine already has, including 152 mm artillery ammunition. NATO-standard weapons fire larger, 155mm rounds. But … that effort is effectively reaching its end, with almost everything available that countries are willing to provide having already gone in.”

That can’t be good for business.

Not to mention, “Russian oil revenues have only been going up as oil prices have skyrocketed, even amid the harsh sanctions imposed by the West.” What? Sanctions failed? This can’t be true,
let’s ask the experts! … oh, never mind. They’re over there in the corner, counting their toes, baffled again.

But don’t worry! The Administration can get even more moronic. According to CNN, they’re considering … price controls! “US officials said on Monday that the US and its allies are going to try capping the price of oil so Russia does not profit from it anymore, but how and when that cap will take effect remains to be seen.”

Uh-huh. Ask people who were drivers in the 1970’s about how well price controls work. Those drooling idiots are going to sanction us back to the stone age.

    Link: https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/28/politics/white-house-ukraine-projection/index.html.

PS: Whatever it looks like, I am NOT mocking the Ukrainian people or their suffering. I mock lying corporate media and the government psyops teams, which once again are being forced to “pivot” now that reality is becoming literally undeniable. And I wonder, I really wonder, about all the people whose brains are so plastic they can credulously keep up with the ever-changing narrative without missing a stitch.

    ************************

Oh boy. More bad news for Biden. At the G7 Summit yesterday, Plucky French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron bent Biden’s ear about U.S. policy driving oil shortages — in front of the cameras. That couldn’t possibly have been an accident. In my mind’s eye, I see all the other G7 leaders, except Putin, of course, he skipped the get-together, all of them leaning in during one of Biden’s frequent bathroom breaks, and drawing straws. Macron got the short one. “Now YOU have to tell him!”

Biden was counting on Arab nations to produce more oil but a few hours ago French President Macron was overheard telling Biden that the United Arab Emirates is at max capacity & the Saudis can’t produce much more. It appears to be a direct appeal to Biden to produce more oil.

Reuters reported the story headlined “Macron Tells Biden That UAE, Saudi Can Barely Raise Oil Output.”
Reuters transcribed the short conversation, where Macron was obviously grabbing Joe’s arm to stop him walking toward a building, and saying “I had a call with MbZ,” (MbZ = UAE leader Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan). “He told me two things. I’m at a maximum, maximum (production capacity). This is what he claims.”

Macron continued, right in front of tons of reporters and G7 watchers, “And then he said (the) Saudis can [only] increase by a little bit, maybe 150 [thousands barrels per day)]. Maybe a little bit more, but they don’t have huge capacities before six months’ time,” Macron said. Macron appeared to be talking more to Joe’s top aide Jake Sullivan rather than to Joe.

Then Joe started mumbling and trying to pull away. Macron hung onto his arm and began a third point. Reuters and the other corporate media didn’t report it, but you can make some of it out on the videos. Anyway, he starts telling Joe, with a little more urgency, “the last one, the last one” — Joe mumbles again, pulling away — “the very last one is about what you do on the Russian oil; he told me that you should…”

That’s when Biden’s handlers fell upon the pair, loudly saying “thank you thank you excuse us we have to go,” and the confab was interrupted.

From a different video, it looks like Macron tried to stop Joe again, and Jake Sullivan immediately interrupted. “Careful, careful. Maybe we SHOULD just go inside.” Then they walked into the building.

As a result of the public airing, most major media networks carried the conversation, at least up till when Macron began talking about Russia. The conversation seems to torpedo the Biden Administration’s current narrative on oil, which is they are going to pressure OPEC to pump some more. Macron just told Biden — in public — your plan won’t work.

Many commenters thought Macron was really saying: the U.S. needs to produce more oil.

If you watch the video, you’ll also notice that Joe Biden is totally disconnected.
He just stands and waits while Macron speaks. He doesn’t engage in conversation at all. He has nothing to say. Is it because he didn’t want to say anything? Or because he really has nothing to say?

    I report, you decide.

    Brave launches “Goggles”

Goggles allows you to weed out what you don’t want to see and include mostly—or—only what you want to see in Brave search results.

Here’s how the Goggles feature works in Brave search.

Say you want to run a Brave search for a particular query and view only results from the left. You can do this by running your normal Brave search.

    /snip
Additionally, results with discussions related to your query will also be served. You can learn more about Discussions in Brave search if you want to do that.

To view results from only the right, simply click on the News from the right Goggle. This will filter your search results accordingly. This can help you gain unbiased insight into any topic.

You can disable any or all Goggles by returning to the original page where you began your search.

    /snip

Brave has been known to be outspoken about privacy while challenging Big Tech’s perceived censorship and monopoly on search. To combat this, Brave Search uses its own custom-built-from-scratch web index.

If you’re searching for content from only one angle, you could reinforce or introduce cognitive bias—so you need to be careful. To prevent this, you can balance your Brave search by using two opposite Goggles—then removing them altogether.

In other good news, I’ve mentioned that BFF’s executor is coming to Dallas at the end of July to try and get her estate wrapped up, and I’ve agreed to pick her up at the airport and serve as her chauffeur and escort while she is there.  Now I stepped out on a limb and asked her for a movie date while she is in town, and she accepted – woo hoo.  It’s probably been 35 years or so since I’ve even been to a movie in a theater, and even more since I had a movie date.  So I’m excited and looking forward to that and hoping that I don’t screw it up.  She’s a younger girl, only 73, so hope I can keep up with her.

    That’s all for now.

Miss Rose Williams, my all time favorite teacher, taught me my very first “political” lesson.  I quoted Chet/Brinkley in the course of some discussion.  Whoohoo Miss Williams read me the riot act not so much about those liars but the importance of vetting information for myself.  Oh and she was thorough about what to ask questions.  After that drubbing she launched into political agendas.

Besides the eighth grade English teacher on whom Katfish and I shared a disabling crush, the other one who most affected me was my Junior High choir master.

She, too, was a hot brunette. A bit stern-faced for my taste – with a teaching style to match.

To me she transferred her maniacal intolerance for singers who do not enunciate clearly, particularly on the final consonant of the final word of a phrase.

I recently came across a Youtube channel for “Our Half Acre Homestead”. This Canadian lady is so down to earth and sweet, and I really enjoy watching her do her stuff. She likes to wear headbands with little ears on ’em, and I like the goofiness – so like me. She does a lot of frugal stuff: frugal tips, gardening, canning, etc.

She posted a video this morning – her husband has had a heart attack, and is in the hospital for a heart blockage. Bless her heart, she is absolutely stricken. Angioplasty today, and depending on the results, possible bypass surgery. He just started a new job, and he’s not able to collect benefits yet because he’s used some already for Covid and another injury he sustained. They are on public assistance now and dependent on the Canadian health system to keep her husband alive.

She’s not asking for donations, but is asking that her videos be played, and let the ads run. That’ll provide her some income:
    https://www.youtube.com/c/OurHalfAcreHomestead/featured

I was just telling Hubby that it really hit home. As I watched her, I was thinking “she doesn’t have to worry about having stuff in the house” while dealing with all of this. They stockpile – have been stockpiling for the coming winter – so she has plenty of groceries and won’t have to worry about running out of food or other staples while dealing with this emotional load.

Hubby and I had a discussion that if something happened to either one of us, the other would have food and stuff. One less thing to stress over. One less public interaction to deal with during an emotional time.

Prepping – it’s not just for food shortages, hurricanes, etc. There are things that happen in our personal lives that are emergencies, too.

If you are so inclined, go play her videos. Just let ’em run, let the ads run. Turn off the volume, and do your thing while helping this sweet lady.

I am sorting through the Food and Drug Administration’s briefing books for its meeting today to discuss whether future versions of the mRNA Covid shots will be waved through without proper clinical trials (spoiler alert: yes, the fix is in).

I want to write in detail about the meeting and what the FDA is doing, because it’s incredibly important – it means that we will NEVER have decent randomized controlled data on the jabs going forward. For vaccine advocates, this omission is clearly a feature and not a bug.

Yet I am having a hard time motivating to write about the meeting because although it’s incredibly important, it’s also meaningless. Demand for the mRNA Covid shots has collapsed completely and is unlikely ever to return.

Put aside the side effects, which are now increasingly visible at the national level; the failure of the shots to work as promised is just too obvious. If governments want to mandate these for kids, they’re going to have to put tanks in the streets, and even Pfizer doesn’t have enough lobbyists to pull that off.

Still, this is just the latest regulatory embarrassment on the mRNAs, on the heels of the pathetic authorization of the shots for kids under 5. The United States is going to be an outlier here, in the worst way. Last week, the director general of the Danish Health Authority (Søren Brostrøm, could it sound any more Danish?) admitted that giving Covid vaccines to older kids and teenagers had been a useless mistake that the country would not repeat:

Speaking of rocking horse alarm clocks, I haven’t used it for mornings in a long time now. But I had it set one afternoon to get up from a nap. I don’t remember why — it usually doesn’t matter when I get up from a nap. (Or in the morning either.) But that afternoon, I sat up on the side of the bed and was pressing down on the orange saddle to disable the galloping, when darned if the horse’s head didn’t fall off. I think I could easily get a big glob of super glue to affix the blue neck back onto the square body. I’ll do that someday, but in the meantime I have 2 or 3 other Xonex horsies. Also a soldier who fires a cannon, a train that toots its horn, and other loud and obnoxious alarm clocks.

I wrapped up a little nap and feel better now.  Got a little cloud hanging around to the north, but looks like as usual it will skirt around us.  It’s still pleasant outside temperature wise, so we’ve got that going for us.  Did not locate any ant beds popping up this morning, but I’ll check again as they may not have had time to dig out yet.  I’m sure they have been buried deep with all the hot weather we’ve had lately, and they are temperature sensitive.

  44. Tedtam Avatar

Got my gardening in, and left a piece of my thigh in the jaws of some insect out there as I was doing so. I hope Hubby appreciates the fresh veggies. The bugs sure are.

I ripped out one squash plant that was just putting out big green leaves and not much else. I don’t think it was getting enough sunlight, being shaded by other plants. That reduces my work load as to inspection/injection for squash vine borer damage. I also pulled up my grape tomato plant, as it wasn’t producing any more flowers. Being a determinate tomato variety, it had probably finished its fruiting anyway.

Speaking of squash vine borers, I managed to kill one moth and possibly a second. The second one dropped and I couldn’t find it to make sure it had become ant food. Here’s hoping I got enough soapy water on it to take it out. I also had SW some juvenile sap sucking insects. Farming involves so much destruction and death…

I planted up another tote and set up a place for a vine to climb, using some wood trim scraps from Hubby’s work area and orphan chicken wire. I had a cucumber? melon? in a pot and it needed a better home, so I just plopped the pot inside the tub. Some of the dirt in the new tote came from the old squash tote. If there are vbm pupae in the dirt (and I’m sure there are, based on the damage I saw when I pulled up the squash vine), those pupae are now 8 inches or more below the soil line. THAT ought to make it difficult for newly hatched moths find their way out. The tote itself got planted with a variety of plants: cauliflower (seeing if it’s worth growing), radishes, …and something else. Got some lettuce seeds put into a tote in the shade, where it’s not so hot. Also put some more collards in the ground and have seeds in cups for poblano peppers, final home tbd.

I harvested some more okra, natch, as well as some collard and mustard greens for dinner this evening. Also, a few more peppers and cucumbers. And a zucchini. I noticed that one tomato that’s been on a plant forrrrrrrrrrrreeeevvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr is finally starting to blush. ’bout dang time.

I have a huge vine – I think it’s cucumber – but it’s not producing a darn thing. Lots of flowers. I’m trying to decide if it becomes compost or give it some more time. It does keep the bees happy.

So, back inside and have eaten lunch. Time to treadmill, shower, and get on with the rest of my day.

Junior has shown no interest in my garden, thankfully. I put the water bowls in the yard to keep the birds from pecking my ‘maters, and so far it seems to be working. They are getting their moisture from the water bowls. At least, that’s the theory I’m working on. I haven’t had any tomatoes eaten. By birds, anyway. Dang bugs.

The cantaloupe melons are doing surprisingly well. The largest one is getting that “netted” look, so I’m hoping it won’t be long until it matures enough to harvest. I’m going to be getting quite a few melons, if things continue the way they are now.

I was disappointed at the meager gleanings from the garden. I remember as a child hauling baskets of produce into the house, where Mom would turn it into meals or pickles, etc. I harvest only a leaf here, a fruit there… I thought it was me just overcoming my natural black thumb. As Handsome would say, “I’m working my butts off” out there. (That always cracks me up.) I met a friend last night and we were discussing this year’s gardening efforts, and she said she has a friend who’s a master gardener and even he says his garden is crap this year. His words.

Contempory Music,News,Movies I doubt will be referenced 50 years from now.

Clear enunciation is lacking in all of the above.

Shannon linked the song Summer Time from the Opera Porgy and Bess. It is still viable today as it was in 1935 and countless Artist have done their own adaptation.

Squawk referenced Huntley and Brinkley even though controversial they were at the top of their game in the 60s.

Katfish linked a song and several songs below that were the greatest of Great.

    Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nick’s

    Lynyrd Skynyrd

    Etc

Point being, like Shannon has observed is the World is not churning out talent like in the past. Due mostly because of a lack of discipline in the art.

I believe we went through a Renaissance of sorts between 1913-1980 and since then been in a state of stagnation.

The nurse and I were trying to find out yesterday what was going on….we got some answers yesterday afternoon from the doctor that sent him there but not the surgeon. The actual surgeon came in tonight and said it will be done Friday afternoon. They will be repairing the aorta aneurysm because it has grown in size and is leaking and he also has a blockage which is cutting off circulation in his left leg. This is the only way I can update everyone. Thank you all for the prayers, texts and calls. Continued prayers appreciated.

I ran into a great mom today at Aldi. I was stocking up on some stuff for future canning (tomorrow, probably) and dehydrating (as I write). Aldi usually has one cashier and one other employee in the store. If the line gets long, the second employee will open a register and clear the backlog.

This day, Super Mom and I both arrived in line at the same time, and since her cart was relatively empty as opposed to my very full cart, and told her to take the next space in line and got behind her. She proceeded to tell the kids how nice I was, after thanking me for the consideration. She asked her children to say hello to me. They did, with smiles.

Her daughter then proceeded to show me her prepackaged salad, tell me how much she liked salads, etc., etc, and I responded back in a friendly manner. Super Mom encouraged her to thank me for the compliment I had just paid her daughter. Second employee shows up and opens another line, so I directed Super Mom to that aisle and followed her over. She thanked me again.

As she unloaded her cart, an item fell to the floor near my feet. I picked it up and gave it to her son, who put it on the cart. “Thank the nice lady,” Super Mom said, which son did. Another item dropped, too far for me to pick up for her, but I pointed it out. Another thank you. After they checked out, Super Mom told her kids to say good-bye to the nice lady, then told me to have a nice day and thanked me for being so nice. I responded back with a thanks for being such a great mom and for them to enjoy their weekend once they found the graham crackers they needed for the s’mores they were going to make over the weekend.

You know, some people are just really nice folk. Her kids are going to be great adults, friendly and with an attitude of gratitude, spreading sunshine around like their mom.

Getting time to turn in out here.  For Brother Dave, just know that I’m one of those who would not be caught dead at the Ronalds.  I’ll look forward to the Joy date story.

Pleasant day out here today following last night’s rain.  My yard is greening up again, and who knows, I may have to get the mower running here in a few days.  Nothing else to report on for now, so nite nite you all.  Have a good one.

Elvis death has caused me so much trouble.  Course when you make Elvis jokes people get real upset.    A friend of mine came to me all upset the day Elvis died.

Same thing happened to me that day. Eddie an older (45) Cabinetmaker in the shop came over to my bench crying and saying the King is dead.

I liked Elvis but I guess I really never looked at him that way. It took Eddie several days to regain his composure though.

Elvis got down right strange toward the end and the drug use explained a lot of that.

Before moving to Texas my main stay music was mostly:

    Jethro Tull

    Moody Blues

    Chicago

    Crosby Stills Nash and Young

    Cat Steven’s

    Even John Denver

We were uptown with our 8 Track Quad.

I even made one from a Heath Kit.

    Fun Times

Almost forgot the Folk Song Groups.

    Peter Paul and Mary

    Momma’s and The Papa’s

    Bob Dylan

We took our Daughter to see Peter Paul and Mary when they came to Town (Houston) around 1998.

We walked in and were trying to find our seat and our Daughter says “There is just a bunch of Old People here”. There was laughter coming from all around. She had a good time and I believe that was the last tour for Peter Paul and Mary. Mary died shortly there after.

We came this Close to having Peter Bob and Mary. It turns out Bob Dylan auditioned for a spot with this group but did not get selected.

They just couldn’t seem to harmonize “Like a rolling Stone”.

Also took Daughter to see Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck.

Roger Whittaker was a good show too.

    Good times and great memories.

The World’s Problems are going have to be put on hold for awhile.

My TOK has been usurped by VBS.

    How about that for acronyms?

My #71 — the race horse joke about Biden — got fact-checked about 4 hours after I posted it. They didn’t remove it, but did put it behind a false information sign…

I made a quick run to the Food Town to get milk, and checked the cat food shelf while I was there. It was basically empty — not happy to see that. In fact the only thing in that section were a few of the Meow Mix pate cups — but none of Millie’s favorite flavor. I got 2 cups anyway, of a flavor she doesn’t even like. Someone might want the remaining 7-8 cups of it. The reason those few items were all that was left in cat food is that they are 99 cents, compared to how you can get 2X that amount of food in a metal can for 65-75 cents.
