Friday Gallipoli Over Troubled Waters Open Comments

The 1915 Canakkale Bridge opens today, Friday, March 18th in Turkey, a nation sitting astride two continents.  A famous natural waterway linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea, the Dardanelles has seen more than its share of momentous events in human history.  Herodotus tells the story of Greek victory over the Persians there 2,500 years ago.  Sparta, Helen of Troy, Homer’s Iliad, the last battle of the Peloponnesian war, Alexander the Great and more recently, the disastrous 1915 battle at Gallipoli between Allied forces, including the ANZAC (Australian & New Zealand troops), and the mighty Ataturk and his armies of the Ottoman Empire.***

This video tells the quick story of how the bridge was built.

It is the largest suspension bridge in the world now connecting Asia and Europe.

The story had me, of course, studying the maps of the area.

Was looking at Ukraine and discovered that you can reach the Black Sea by boat all the way from Kyiv.

Though I’m not sure how large a vessel can do it.

    Friday C&C post:

    *THE C&C ARMY POST*
The Joe Harding campaign told me late yesterday that the final multiplication numbers topped $62,000. All from small donations, which are the typical measure of a politician’s popularity. Well done. I also understand an Epoch Times article mentioning our Operation Multiplier is in the works.

    *COVID NEWS AND COMMENTARY*
Stat News reported on a new research survey yesterday in an article headlined, “‘Is it worth it?’: New Report Lays Bare Harassment Of Public Health Officials During The Pandemic.”

Hahahahaha! Poor public health officials. After swanking their unelected arbitrary emergency authority all over their fellow citizens and generally making everyone’s lives miserable pushing and enforcing restrictive measures that in hindsight were utterly useless if not terrifically destructive, public health officials were shocked to discover nobody was thanking them.

According to the survey, health officials said that, during the pandemic, they were personally attacked, villainized, and their experiences were often marginalized. Oh my gosh! Not marginalized! The officials also complained feeling that their work was unappreciated (they should be thanking us) and that they were sometimes blamed for undefined “broader problems.” I bet they were.

And it gets worse for the poor officials. Those who claimed they’d been “harassed” broke down like this: 24% reported facing “backlash on social media”; 6% said they had received mean messages; 6% said they received threats; and 2% were doxxed.

Only six percent of officials who felt harassed actually received threats? Crybabies. Were any actually tarred and feathered? I’ve received plenty of threats over my mask and jab lawsuits. But nobody’s surveying ME.

Well, one thing is certain. These officials haven’t learned their lesson. According to the article, they think the answer is MORE POWER. Study author Beth Resnick demanded CONSEQUENCES for criticizing government officials: “There should be more legal consequences for impeding people from trying to do their jobs, especially government officials,” she said. Guess who she wants looking into it? Of course — the FBI.

How about NO? Public health officials need to go back to advisory roles and stay there. Don’t let public health officials off the hook for what they have done.

And if you’re tempted to feel sympathetic or forgiving, say because the officials just had a hard job to do during a tough time, remember these are the same people now telling everybody that young, healthy people having blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes is NORMAL. So. They’re frauds, or worse.

Here’s another hard pass. According to Business Insider, “Moderna is Seeking FDA Approval For a 4th Covid-19 Vaccine Shot For Those Aged 18 And Above.”

Moderna is trying to shoot past Pfizer, who also this week sought emergency authorization for a 4th booster, but only for 65 and up. As recently as Monday, Moderna president Stephen Hoge insisted that only older and immunocompromised adults would need the fourth booster. But the science swiveled through the week and here we are.

The tone of the article suggests that there is broad market demand for the 4th booster. I hope that’s not true. But I must admit, I know some folks who would probably run down and get it, eager volunteers in the grand experiment to find out how much spike protein the human body can tolerate.

Ugh. It’s baaaaack. The Daily Mail UK’s classic extended headline yesterday said, “Voice of doom Dr Fauci warns US could face MORE COVID lockdowns as he admits latest variant set to hit US is less serious than Omicron: ‘We can’t just say we’re done’.”

I have to admit, I laughed out loud a little considering the nickname “Voice of Doom” for that little cockroach. Anyway, I think Fauci syndrome is more like herpes simplex or shingles or fungus or something. It’s always there, dormant, right below the surface, erupting painfully at the most inconvenient times. The trick is to apply the antibacterial paste directly to the affected area.

The Mail explained that Fauci told CNN yesterday, “If in fact we do see a turnaround and a resurgence, we have to be able to pivot and go back to any degree of mitigation that is commensurate with what the situation is.”

Wait a minute. We ALREADY pivoted. We pivoted AWAY from the pandemic. If we pivot again, that’s a swivel. That’s swiveling, not pivoting. Say it right.

Fauci wasn’t done. Neither are we, apparently. “We can’t just say, ‘We’re done. We’re going to move on.’ We’ve got to be able to be flexible because we’re dealing with a dynamic situation,” the insect-like bureaucrat explained.

According to Fauci, we CAN’T just move on. We CAN’T be done. Why? Because Fauci is stuck in 2021: measuring CASES. “The overall mortality is actually down,’ Fauci told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “It’s a very interesting situation where the cases are going up, but it does not, at this point in time, appear to be any degree of severity.”

Just cases. Not hospitalizations or deaths. So we can’t move on? Why doesn’t someone ever ask him how we are supposed to get to Covid-zero?

Under their faces, CNN’s Chyron blared “W.H.O. Director-General: Global Covid Spike ‘Tip of the Iceberg.’” Blech. Please stop.

So anyway, we aren’t out of the woods yet. Keep fighting. Don’t stop till its a distant memory.

According to NPR, the Biden Administration re-pivoted again, or swiveled, or whatever, and suddenly replaced Covid Response Coordinator Jeff Zients yesterday with forever-masker Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of Brown University’s School of Public Health.

    Twitter avatar for @POTUS
    President Biden
    @POTUS
I am excited to name Dr. Ashish Jha as the new White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator. Dr. Jha is one of the leading public health experts in America, and a well known figure to many Americans from his wise and calming public presence.

During the pandemic, Jha was a frequent and loud fan of failed lockdown measures, measures since proven to have done absolutely nothing to stop the spread of the virus but which have definitely wreaked enormous social and economic damage. Jha’s still clutching the masks and he thinks they should be an essential standby item for Americans. Forever.

“A mask is like a raincoat,” Jha explained to NPR, “You wear it when it’s raining. You take it off when it stops raining.” He continued, “and if we think of masks in that way then, yeah, during surges, we should have masks. And everybody should be wearing them. And then when the surge ends, we should take off our masks.”

Jha is not a medical doctor, has never treated a Covid patient or any other kind of patient, and has no Covid scientific expertise. Is he a “mask forever” true believer or is he just good at parroting White House policy? I hope it’s the second one.

Ugh. So, again, this thing ain’t over. We’re going to have to bury mask mandates in a nuclear waste mine in Colorado or something.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the Epoch Times reported a story headlined, “Fauci Braces for House GOP Investigations: ‘Benghazi Hearings All Over Again’.”

Fauci told the Washington Post that he expects to be investigated like there’s no tomorrow if Republicans retake the House in November, just like Hilary Clinton was investigated over the Benghazi disaster. We can only hope.

He’s got good reason to think so. Representative Chip Roy (R-Texas) told Fox News last week, “And if you’re watching this, Dr. Fauci, look out, because when the Americans give us control in the House of Representatives, God willing, we’re going to get some answers on behalf of the American people.”

Fauci is worried about having to answer America’s questions because he says it will just distract him from doing his work. Which would be a great outcome, if you ask me.

‍♂️ Yesterday, Governor DeSantis told reporters “This [mask mandate on planes] should not be extended. It should have never been done in the first place but clearly now this is a farce. They need to repeal the transportation mandate. Let people fly and let them breathe normally. We’ve got to stop with the theater.”

    Precisely.

Go Pilots! The Independent UK reported a story yesterday headlined, “U.S. Pilots File Lawsuit Against Federal Mask Mandate On Planes.”

The article explains that a courageous group of ten U.S. pilots from JetBlue, Southwest Airlines and American Airlines — some of whom are C&C fans — is now suing the CDC and HHS for its witless mask mandate that only creates a flying, virtue-signaling theatre of the absurd and just makes managing the aircraft that much harder.

Filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia, the suit alleges that the mask mandate is wreaking “chaos,” and points out the CDC “ignored countless scientific and medical studies” disproving the effectiveness of masks in preventing the spread of Covid-19.” The legal claim is the CDC failed to follow the Administrative Procedures Act, which is an argument that has gained traction in other courts considering various mandates around the country.

We thank these heroic pilots and wish them well in their suit!

The bottom story of the day. Yesterday, Apple announced adding a new feature to iOS 15.4 — the ability to unlock the phone using Face ID while wearing a mask. Great. But, can it unlock my phone with my eyes rolling this hard?

Have a fantastic Friday! I’ll catch you back here tomorrow, which will be the first day of my Spring Break family vacation. Be prepared for a missing post here and there during the next week.

These maps also illustrate the most important aspect of this conflict: It is similar to most other previous European wars in that it is entirely territorial, with the conflict along somewhat distinct front lines and the status of the war determined mostly by the territory gained or lost by either side. This fact makes understanding the overall situation much simpler, despite the propaganda and the normal disinformation put forth by both sides.

There is a Battle of ANZAC Ridge that occured during the Somme offensive in Yerp. I believe you’re referring to the Gallipoli Campaign in which Australian and New Zealand troops (known as ANZACS) were prominent. IOW, Battles are normally named after places, and ANZACS are people.

Morning gang.  Cooler this morning, and strong winds have shifted to the North (actually coming from the north).  So far we have avoided the outbreak of serious fires scattered about the western Texas area, but conditions are perfect, so caution is still the word of the day.  Prospects for rain after the weekend, so between now and then, I guess we will remain at high risk.

A couple of years ago I rewired my kitchen fluorescent light fixtures and installed LED bulbs; each fixture has 4 bulbs in it.  My first venture was to replace the bulbs in only one of the fixtures just to see how it worked, if I like them, etc. Anyway, I was pleased with the results, so I ventured forth to redo the second fixture.  I used a different brand of bulb, but with the same specs as the first fixture, and they worked well for a while.  Then one bulb out of the second installation started having a problem.  The guaranty was “lifetime” and the company sent me a replacement bulb.  A few months ago, another one of the bulbs started flickering, but the original bulbs were no longer available.  I was able to find a set of 2 used bulbs of the same type, so I got them in and installed one to replace the second defective bulb.  I took that bulb apart, and there was a loose wire in there that had broken free of its solder joint, so it would not make contact all the time after it warmed up – so I made note of the cause of this defect.  I still have one of the used bulbs that I bought.  Last night, another of the original bulbs has begun flickering, and this morning, it is doing the same as the others; so I’ll replace it sometime today.  But it’s apparent that this batch of bulbs was defective which probably explains why they are no longer available.  The company is not willing to make good on their warranty as they say they can only replace the defective bulb with the same bulb, but the same bulb is no longer available.  I’ll probably mess around with them a little but I don’t really expect any satisfaction on this issue.  After this, the next time one of them goes out I’ll probably just get a different brand and replace the whole lot of them.  I still really like the LED’s and just think I got hold of a bad batch.

Not sure what’s in store for plant duty today, but I’ll get out there and mess with them when it warms up a little more.  I’ve had enough of these strong March winds, but I don’t have much sway as to getting that changed any time soon.

You all have a great day.

    Good Friday morning, Hamsters.

Yesterday’s muggy mid 70s surrendered here to the latest cold front early this morning in a dive from 61 at 6 to 58 and falling now.  The very strong north wind  sends the neighbor’s Texas flag ruffled and standing straight out.  The rain of live oak leaves continues with a renewed vigor as it blows yesterday’s accumulation away while replacing it with fresh ones today.  March winds, April showers, bring forth May flowers so goes the saying in the midwest.

#26 Shannon’s comments on #21 Sarge’s post could easily freeze your blood.  It is horrendous now but could be much worse (is there even a description for that?) if the invasion doesn’t stop soon, like today.  Evil stalks mostly unfettered it seems.

These teacher unions and administrators are turning millions of mothers and fathers into militant conservative activists across the country.  Keep it up, you fools.

MADISON — Parents are “not entitled” to know their kids’ gender identity, according to a recent woke training session in the Eau Claire Area School District.

Empower Wisconsin has obtained a copy of a training slide from last Friday’s staff development session. The 2021-22 Equity session on Safe Spaces reminds teachers that “parents are not entitled to know their kids’ identities. That knowledge must be earned.”

“Teachers are often straddling this complex situation. In ECASD, our priority is supporting the student,” the professional development facilitator guide states. Teachers were encouraged to “Talk amongst yourselves!”

The lesson — that teachers know better than parents about what is best for their kids — is not sitting well with some community members.

“We are appalled that ECASD would display such blatant disregard for the parents and guardians of our community’s children. We are equally dismayed that current school district leadership would pressure teachers into breaking a social contract that we all know and understand—that parents and guardians hold primary responsibility and decision making for the welfare and care of their children,” said parents and school board candidates, Nicole Everson, Corey Cronrath and Melissa Winter in a joint statement.

The district’s training session is also legally suspect.

Similar to the way Democratic women mobilized after the election of former President Donald Trump, conservative women who never before attended a caucus or canvassed a neighborhood are organizing in living rooms across Colorado.

Tompkins formed Liberty Girls in Douglas County, which has grown from about 20 women who first gathered in her house for coffee and snacks a year ago to more than 300, all standing, she said, for God, country and family.

    Liar.

I submit that using Occam’s Razor as a guiding principle, it is more likely that he read a report of an investigation that convinced him it was suicide and that the liars are those who conducted the investigation and wrote the report.

The biggest part of the Swamp is not always those at the top who serve limited terms in revolving door positions, its those permanent government employees who have reached a point where they can advance more quickly through loyalty than through merit and can easily be convinced by outside influencers to go along with their narrative with a promise of rich reward later.

But, if you need a boogie man, its easier to go with the guy at the top, which is how the guys just below them get away with it.

#68 El Gordo I’m happy with mine and they all seem to be in this price range +or-. It’s accurate enough but I did have to tweak it for a few days. Naturally the barometer was set to 29.92 so I had to get the barometric pressure reading from Blackwell field only 4 miles away. The temperature reading uses a RTD instead of a Thermocouple so it was off by several degrees but I used my digital Fluke 89 IV to set it. I guess that they use a RTD because the unit is outside and it can be in -50 to +120 degrees range so it might have a problem with the Thermocouple reference junction. The best thing is that is wireless but isn’t everything now? FWIW; Many years ago I researched a good weather station and it cost about $900 but there were very few units made for the masses and the professional ones were off the charts. The one I wanted was hard wired and was from Edmunds Scientific and they never been known for low prices.

Appaerntly, Edmunds is now Fisher Scientific and they have a nice weather station for about $1300 bucks. Cole-Parmer Davis Instruments 6162C Plus Cabled Weather Station System.
From the looks of it, it’s probably worth the price, just not to me.

Someone in the neighborhood wanted the wife to list a house they got stuck with from their son who walked on a loan they had co-signed on. One acre, nice lot but just a cheap run down single wide mobile home on it. They had about 130-140K in mind, wife tells them she thinks she could get 160K for it, buyers ecstatic. After getting crews to get yard cleaned up and repairs done in the house, wife is anxious as the deeper you got into it, more issues seen, so she’s been apprehensive. She puts it out live this morning, three showings right off, first one offers 10K over list. Wife happy. She’s damn good.

    Precisely.

And those were the very underlings in DOJ, the AAGs and DAAGs, scattered across the country, terrified of losing their prestigious positions, who were quite willing to tell AG Barr there was nothing to any allegations of fraud and deceit in their respective states regarding elections.  Bill Barr said: “That’s fine, I’m headed out the door anyway and I don’t want any part of this mess.  Let somebody else do it.”

I’ve been around for 69.6375 years and 61.64 of those years have mostly been obsessed with politics, governments and the creeps who inhabit them.  Barr has his good qualities and weak ones.

What can I say to that but….

I agree with all of that, But the only way you can realistically lay it at Bill Barr’s feet would be to say that he planned the whole thing, or ignored a true report.

His hands were basically tied. There is a legal problem with his saying, “I don’t believe this, come back with something I can believe.”

Would have the effect of any trial that might come about thrown out of court, and that was his job, taking things to court. The net effect would be the same. The report said that “A” was true and “B” was not. If any Officer of the Court tells investigators to keep investigating until they prove “B” he’s lost the trail before it hits the docket.

while I’m at it, I just polished off a couple of the country style pork ribs that came out of the 20 hour sous vide bath and about 10 minutes on the GF grill, and they were excellent.  I had tossed a few cloves of garlic in the package along with the usual seasonings, and it made the difference and was well worth it.  Won’t have to worry about the vampires messing with me tonight with that good garlic breath.

Been making and receiving calls today as things are starting to move on BFF’s estate.  I’ve been able to point people in the right direction as to where things may be, and at least I think I’m being helpful.  We’ve (meaning the family) really been lucky in that BFF had friends who are professionals and who can get things done.  Of course, nothing has been actually done so far, but the plans are in place once the legal matters are resolved things should move pretty quickly.  She does have some client records that need to be shipped out, and that will be a pretty big project since the case was in litigation for over 12 years and went from District Court to the Fifth Circuit to SCOTUS and back until the 3rd time which was charm and the final rulings were granted – she won by the way.  There is no way justice in America can be fair since her client just happened to have the very deep pockets required to stay in the game until the end.  No telling how many millions he spent on this matter and he will get nothing back, but he doesn’t have to pay any either.  A regular person would never have been able to stay in the game with the stakes so high.

It’s about an hour until bedtime, but I may turn in early.  I’ll go turn on the TV for a while and then give it up for the day.  You all have a good evening now.

PS – I might be able to hang around long enough to see if we can score a hunnert.
