Thomas Sowell on Washingtonspeak:

When people in Washington start creating fancy new phrases, instead of using plain English, you know they are doing something they don’t want us to understand.
It was an act of war when we started bombing Libya. But the administration chose to call it “kinetic military action.” When the Federal Reserve System started creating hundreds of billions of dollars out of thin air, they called it “quantitative easing” of the money supply.
When that didn’t work, they created more money and called it “quantitative easing 2” or “QE2,” instead of saying: “We are going to print more dollars– and hope it works this time.” But there is already plenty of money sitting around idle in banks and businesses.
The policies of this administration make it risky to lend money, with Washington politicians coming up with one reason after another why borrowers shouldn’t have to pay it back when it is due, or perhaps not pay it all back at all. That’s called “loan modification” or various other fancy names for welching on debts. Is it surprising that lenders have become reluctant to lend?

Like Reagan said: “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

I want to know the timing of our president’s decision to give the go-ahead to take out OBL and going into Libya. Was he feeling a little hawkish for a couple days there? Was there an uptick in his Viagra dosage in this time period?

    So many questions.

    G’Morning all

Something not about Ben Laden, but is almost as big.
about a month ago someone posted about “Project Gunrunner” and I posted some links for background information. I keep track daily about how it’s going. Here is a brief history of it and a VERY important update today.

There are five key accusations against ATF and DOJ made by ATF whistleblowers and other sources within FedGov:
    1. That they instructed U.S. gun dealers to proceed with questionable and illegal sales of firearms to suspected gunrunners.
    2. That they allowed or even assisted in those guns crossing the U.S. border into Mexico to “boost the numbers” of American civilian market firearms seized in Mexico and thereby provide the justification for more firearm restrictions on American citizens and more power and money for ATF.
    3. That they intentionally kept Mexican authorities in the dark about the operation, even over objections of their own agents.
    4. That weapons that the ATF let “walk” to Mexico were involved in the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and ICE agent Jaime Zapata, as well as at least hundreds of Mexican citizens.
    5. That at least since the death of Brian Terry on 14 December, the Obama administration is engaged in a full-press cover-up of the facts behind what has come to be known as the “Gunwalker Scandal.”

    And today’s update

Now we’ll find out how serious they are about Gunwalker: Holder to face Lamar Smith, Darrell Issa & friends under oath tomorrow.

Hearing on: Oversight Hearing on the United States Department of Justice
    Tuesday 5/3/2011 – 10:15 a.m.
    2141 Rayburn House Office Building
    Committee on the Judiciary
    By Direction of the Chairman

    Witness List:

    The Honorable Eric Holder
    Attorney General
    U.S. Department of Justice

“Tomorrow, Attorney General Eric Holder will testify before the House Judiciary Committee,” an email sent this afternoon by the Deputy Press Secretary, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform announces:

Congressman Issa will press Attorney General Holder on the role of the ATFโ€™s Phoenix office in ‘Operation Fast and Furious’, a botched gun tracking project which knowingly allowed guns into the hands of drug cartels leading to the death of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

The testimony will occur Tuesday 5/3/2011 at 10:15 a.m. at 2141 Rayburn House Office Building. It will be webcast live at http://www.judiciary.house.gov.

Time for the All American Political Sport of Weaseling and Back Pedaling, no doubt, but it should at least make the MSM start reporting on it.

    So many questions.

I have a pretty basic one. Who’s in charge of information dissemination?

First we hear that they learned about the courier ’bout 2 years ago, now we find out they learned about him in Gitmo.
Osama’s wife was killed, then she wasn’t.
A reporter reports he was shot one time dead center in the forehead, then it’s 2 shots above the left eye, then it’s the eye and multiple chest shots and his lower face is missing.
First it’s a joint venture with Pakistan, then it isn’t, then we didn’t even ask if we could go in and do it.

How much more will it be screwed up before we get the whole story?

Lovely Daughter has left home for the last time. She will be back at campus today, graduate Saturday, and will return Wednesday to Houston – to sign her lease and move into her own apartment. She’ll be back briefly to finish picking up her things, but then her room – and our house – will be bereft of her presence. She will never come “home” again. She’ll have her own home, and then she’ll be making a home with Aggie Beau.

You can tell I’m not handling this very well. I am so happy for her to be starting her life, but I miss her so much already. When she was young, I wished her to be strong and independent and to have a life of her own, but now that it’s here, I wish I could delay it just a bit longer.

    Dang these maternal instincts!

Good monring Hamsters. Overcast, breezy, 54 at 5:30, and a trace of rain that wet the sidewalk, driveway, and grass that wasn’t under a tree. The Chronicle plastic sleeve on the driveway had big drops all over it. Thus did we know there had been fleeting rain overnight. Made it to 55 at 9, still wrapped in gray clouds that present a snow sky if we were farther north.

Back to watering the flowers now that rain passed us by. Cracks in the pasture are bigger, some an inch wide now and sadly growing. We’re grateful there are no foals born this year, as their baby feet could fall into one of these and seriously injure them. That was always a concern in the years we had foals coming; our last one was born in 1995. Still miss the fun of hugging one and for a few mintues relieving the patient mom of her duties. Also miss the anticipation of the birth when all the signs are there that it is very soon and the concern that it might not go well. Our mares had 13 foals for us, and twice we had to help with the delivery. Best to keep a discreet watch and only intrude when there’s a problem brewing. Once born, the initial care is to pull the amniotic sac away from the face and neck and make sure the foal is breathing, the then leave the stall and let mom take over. Determining gender can wait a while as they bond.

Happiness is your best mare and her daughter in foal with a filly.

I hear that Dear Leader is going to release a picture of the deceased OBL in an effort to bolster his story that OBL is in fact dead. It’s a real shame when our government cannot be trusted to provide the truth on any matter, including the simple proof of citizenship, in a form that can be taken at face value. Reagan said “trust but verify.” I think now it’s “don’t trust until proved beyond any reasonable doubt.”

Our box cpu is having iss-ues this morning. It won’t boot up, has been acting flaky for a few weeks now. We have Avast and something else on it (I don’t use it, and I’ve forgotten what all we put on it). There are scans done daily, but obviously something is wrong.

Anyway, should I put together a Linux boot disk and try that? Would that work?

#12 OTL, One was elbow lock for sure and the other probably was. Easily managed when you have a handly little spiral booklet on common delivery problems to study long before the time and have it in the barn at foaling, just in case. Gratefully never had a breech presentation.

Did have a colt born prematurely who weighed ~25 lbs and was dysmature–not really ready for the outside world. His story was a long one of extraordinary care to attain a normal status. He lived to age 15 and was a successful riding and show horse. And very much loved.

I guess if I compare myself to a Russian I am a lightweight.

Regularly rated among the heaviest five drinkers in the world, the Kremlin estimates that Russians consume 32 pints of pure alcohol per capita per year, more than double the World Health Organisation’s recommended maximum. This appears to have seriously dented population growth.

I would estimate my pure alcohol consumption during a year to be about 8 pints. That assumes 1 oz per adult beverage at a rate of 2 – 3 per week.

    1. South Texas College of Law
    2. Texas Tech University
    5. University of Texas
    10. Baylor University
    16. University of Houston
    24. Texas Weslayan University

Current rankings for the 2010-2011 year are:

    2. Texas Tech
    5. Baylor
    14. Texas
    21. South Texas

South Texas gets little respect in national legal circles, but they produce some of the best litigators in the country. They’ve been smashing the Ivy League and Stanford and UCLA in moot court competitions for decades now.

The eldest daughter of some good family friends of ours is about to graduate with a law degree from Baylor. The kid has a really good head on her shoulders. With students like her, it’s easy for me to see why Baylor would rank as high as they do.

I thought Jobs wore blue jeans and a black turtleneck. The goobers at the Jenious Bar need to get with the program; they look like a buncha luzerz.

Maybe you should get a black beret and shave that pelt on the front of your head to look like a righteous Fu Manchu, don your best leopard-print thong Speedo, and show them what a true fanboi looks like.

    re: Bin Fish food photos:
This is the one I want to see:

    1. Photos of OBLs body at a hangar after he was brought back to Afghanistan. This is the most recognizable with a clear picture of his face. The picture is gruesome because he has a massive open head wound across both eyes. Itโ€™s very bloody and gory.

Call me a ghoul and in this case I would not disagree with you. I don’t trust this administration and I want/demand clear verification.

The JOBS leet hit team wears black jeans. Oh yeah and do not forget that they will dance in your front yard too. All will be wearing synched iPods with ear buds so you will not hear the music. It is quite a sight to behold as they dance to a silent melody around your rhododendrons and crab grass.

If you are looking at Florida contenders on the Moot Court lists, Miami was the only Florida school to make the top 35 last year.
