Was listening to a little NFL draft talk on the radio yesterday when I was out in the garage doin’ man stuff. The race baiters are out in force and any criticism of Cam Newton, black NFL QB draft prospect, is racist. The young talk show hosts were clearly dumbfounded by the attacks and quickly capitulated, by the end of the show you’d have thought Cam Newton was the next Tom Brady coming out.
Keep it up guys, the race card jump the shark moment is nearing, the backfire is gonna be so huge the big bang will have seemed like a firecracker.

Dang SD you beat me to the punch on the U.S. becoming a has been. Here is some cut and paste from the article:
IMF bombshell: Age of America nears end
Commentary: Chinaโs economy will surpass the U.S. in 2016
For the first time, the international organization has set a date for the moment when the โAge of Americaโ will end and the U.S. economy will be overtaken by that of China.
And itโs a lot closer than you may think.
According to the latest IMF official forecasts, Chinaโs economy will surpass that of America in real terms in 2016 โ just five years from now.
According to the IMF forecast, whoever is elected U.S. president next year โ Obama? Mitt Romney? Donald Trump? โ will be the last to preside over the worldโs largest economy.
Most people arenโt prepared for this. They arenโt even aware itโs that close. Listen to experts of various stripes and they will tell you this moment is decades away. The most bearish will put the figure in the mid-2020s.But theyโre miscounting. Theyโre only comparing the gross domestic products of the two countries using current exchange rates.
The U.S. Treasury market continues to operate on the assumption that it will always remain the global benchmark of money. Business schools still teach students, for example, that the interest rate on the 10 Year Treasury bond is the โrisk-free rateโ on money

Dee and I went out to eat Friday night There was a drunk at the table next to us. Suddenly he stood up and yelled “ATTENTION ALL” and broke wind loudly.
Dee was extremely embarrassed, and I said to the drunk” Excuse me, you just broke wind before my wife.”
He gave me a cross eyed stare and replied,” I’m sorry I didn’t know it was her turn.”

Clear the roost, the chickens are coming home. ๐
From coast to coast and all over the world liberals are mindlessly going gaga for green. Anything that smacks of greenism is, with religious fervor, promoted and revered. The electric automobile, for instance, is one of the leftโs dream modes of transportation. Pursuant to that dreamy green dream, liberals have made sure that all sort of tax breaks are lavished upon those citizens who dutifully jump up to their necks into the unprofitable and technologically untested world of electric cars. Washington State is no exception to this mania.
โฆ and hilarity ensues.
The Associated Press is even a bit snarky about the whole mess.
After years of urging residents to buy fuel-efficient cars and giving them tax breaks to do it, Washington state lawmakers are considering a measure to charge them a $100 annual fee โ what would be the nationโs first electric car fee.
Yes, thatโs right. After giving them tax breaks to waste their money on electric cars, now Washington State wants to raise new taxes on those very same buyers. If that isnโt a bait and switch, what is?

A bit of geek history – the man attributed with the creation of the compact disc recently died.
Norio Ohga, the former Sony president and Chairman passed away on April 23, 2011 due to multiple organ failure. He was 81 years old, reported SkyNews.
Norio Ohga is best known for pushing the development of the worldโs first compact disk. He is also recognized as helping Sony push its way to creating movies, music, and video games. Over his 13-year career as president of Sony, his most notable accomplishments were his approval of the creation of the PlayStation and Columbia Pictures.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Sonyโs Chief Executive Howard Stringer had this to say about Ohga, “It is no exaggeration to attribute Sony’s evolution beyond audio and video products into music, movies and game, and subsequent transformation into a global entertainment leader to Ohga-san’s foresight and vision.โ
Norio Ohga was president of the company until 1995. After that he was the chairman until 2003 and then became a senior adviser.
Ohga was also an accomplished opera singer. When developing the CD he insisted that it hold a minimum of 75 minutes so that he could listen to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony without interruption.

women like myself who have had reconstructive surgery
This is primary evidence of a crime: Rape of the English language. Reconstructive surgery would be replacing a breast that had been lost to cancer, or rebuilding a face that got smashed in a car wreck, or installing a titanium femur after the original had been crushed in an industrial accident. Having an elective “chop-a-d_ck-offa-me” more accurately falls in the category of DE-CONSTRUCTIVE surgery. The good news is that this “it” will not be able to procreate and pass on the obviously demented mental gene. That particular gene pool is way overdue for a cleaning and fortunately, it was self inflicted.

South Park is more representative of our society today than anything else out there intended for public consumption. For those of you who don’t know Mr. Garrison, the kids school teacher is gay. After finally coming out of the closet, he had the operation and now shows up at school dressed as a woman. However, the key to the entire perverted story is this – after going through all kinds of trials and tribulations about his orientation, coming out of the closet, learning to live with his condition, and finally taking the drastic step of having the surgery(ies) he discovers that he (now she) is still not happy. After undergoing more analysis derived from all kinds of well meaning sources, he finally discovers what the problem is – namely, that after all this, (s)he is still gay.
I think the point is, at least as I see it, is that we have got to learn to live in our own skin, no matter what.

#23 SD: I left out a few, like: Archimedes, Galilleao, Henry Mancini, Stratavarius, Michealangelo, McDonald (of McDonald aircrafts, the father of the flying wing – not the burger queer), DaVinci, Burt Bacharach, etc. This was not done on purpose as most of my posts are stream of consciousness (or BS) and are not intended to be exhaustive. How about a list of incredibly smart/creative people to add to the one we already have? Perhaps this could even be a “sidebar” item so that we can continue to add to it as time passes?

#39 โ What happens when one protected group gets assaulted by members of another protected group. Does one of them eventually (1) resort to Republicanism, or, more likely, (2) does each side retain its own set of protected professionals (trial lawyers) to spend years haggling over minuscule details, pointing fingers, getting face time on TV, jacking up hourly rates, and all of it being paid for by the taxpayers? I go with door number 2.

The inmates are running the asylum. EPA Rules Force Shell to Abandon Oil Drilling Plans.
Shell has spent five years and nearly $4 billion dollars on plans to explore for oil in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. The leases alone cost $2.2 billion. Shell Vice President Pete Slaiby says obtaining similar air permits for a drilling operation in the Gulf of Mexico would take about 45 days. Heโs especially frustrated over the appeal boardโs suggestion that the Arctic drill would somehow be hazardous for the people who live in the area. โWe think the issues were really not major,โ Slaiby said, โand clearly not impactful for the communities we work in.โ

The McDonalds event did bring up some interesting dilemmas in the world of the Victicrat. If you define yourself as a particular victim class you will eventually find yourself painted into a corner. If you are black and define your very essence as being a victim of slavery nothing can ever compensate you for your suffering. Therefore you have a right to beat someone nearly to death. But what if the person you beat is also a “victim”? Whose victimhood trumps whose? If you’re a victim, in your mind, everyone else is a victimizer.
This is the hole we’ve dug ourselves into. When you take a crime like assault and assign different degrees to it based on attributes of the victim you are by law stating that it is not as bad to beat up some people. That’s just wrong. These hyenas should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law because they assaulted a person, not because the person they assaulted was homosexual. Two of the three monsters that drug James Byrd behind a truck got the death penalty before Texas passed a hate crimes law. How did that law make things better?
How did we get to the point where a man can chop off his penis, proclaim his womanhood, and go into a women’s public restroom? In Houston city buildings you don’t even have to mutilate yourself. You can just decide you’re a woman and go into a woman’s bathroom at will. And don’t think that other perverts and pedophiles aren’t taking full advantage of this idiocy.
I blame MMGW.

Not a surprise, Obama, through the IRS is trying to stick it to the country again. Our senators have both stepped up.
This is why it is so disappointing and frustrating that the Internal Revenue Service is creating grave risks for the American economy by pushing a regulation that would drive a significant slice of this foreign capital to other nations. More specifically, the IRS wants banks to report how much interest they pay foreign depositors so that this information can be forwarded to overseas tax authorities.
Yes, you read correctly.
The IRS is seeking to abuse its regulatory power to overturn existing law.

Both Texas Senators also have registered their opposition. Senators Hutchison and Cornyn wrote to the Obama Administration earlier this month. We are very concerned that this proposed regulation will bring serious harm to the Texas economy, should it go into effect. โฆForgoing the taxation of deposit interest paid to certain global investors is a long-standing tax policy that helps attract capital investment to the United States. For generations, these investors have placed their funds in institutions in Texas and across the United States because of the safety of our banks. Another reason that many of these investors deposit funds in American institutions is the instability in their home countries. โฆWith less capital, community banks will be able to extend less credit to working families and small businesses. Ultimately, working families and small businesses will bear the brunt of this ill-advised rule. Given the ongoing fragility of our nationโs economy, we must not pursue policies that will send away job-creating capital. We ask you to withdraw the IRSโs proposed REG-14609-09. The United States should continue to encourage deposits from global investors, as our nation and our economy are best served by this policy.

It’s the Monday after Easter, and your friendly correspondent is holed up in the family hut with an a$$load (literally) of drugs. Since Yellow Hair is a teacher, she has a bullet proof immune system. The weaker germs get scared away outright; the serious ones hitch a ride for as long as they can last or until they can infect someone else (me).
The upshot is that I have a sinus infection that is slowly consuming my entire head. It started out feeling like allergies a week ago. Saturday afternoon, the germs figured they had enough strength for a full frontal assault with naval and air support. This was made worse by my schedule over the weekend.
I was scheduled to read the third reading (actually second since we skipped a few…) at the Easter Vigil. For you Protestants and other non-Catholics, the Easter Vigil is the Holiest Mass of the year. It starts around 8:00 or 8:30pm (depending on when Easter is; it has to be dark out) and usually lasts about three hours. It is the Mass where adults entering the Church are baptized (exceptions can be made, but are pretty rare). The particular reading I was assigned was pretty long – Exodus 14:15 – 15:1. It’s the passage where the Israelites are being pursued by Pharaoh, his chariots, and charioteers, and God will glorify himself by smiting Pharaoh, his chariots, and charioteers. Moses parts the sea and the Israelites march across on dry ground. Pharaoh, his chariots, and charioteers pursue them, get stuck, then God causes the seas to swallow up Pharaoh, his chariots, and charioteers (read the passage to know why I’m doing this).
It’s very disconcerting to read at the Easter Vigil. The church is dark. The only light is the Paschal candle, the reading lamp on the ambo, and the light thrown off by the “Exit” signs around the building. You’re reading to a church with several hundred people in it, but you can only see the front row – barely.
29 people entered the church in our parish Saturday. One of them was actually visiting town because her father took ill and was being treated at MD Anderson. She had completed her catechism at her home parish in San Bernardino, Ca and really wanted to enter the church last weekend. The two parishes got together, and there’s always room for one more. Next weekend another 30 or so will enter the church by making their profession of faith. These are the people who have been baptised but never confirmed.
One other noteworthy thing – our pastor takes the act of anointing very seriously. He said we have lots of oils, so we might as well use it. Normally, they dip their thumb in the oil and mark a cross on the foreheads of the confirmees. He dipped four fingers and a thumb in the oil, rubbed it into their hair, smeared it across their foreheads, then marked a cross. They smelled really good from a long way off. They also glowed. THe light of Christ was shining very strongly in them.
Back to the travails of the wagonburner. While this was all going on, I was getting woozier by the minute. Once we got home about midnight, I went to bed and passed out. We met the in-laws for lunch at 12:30 and I was sort of ok, but by about 2:30 I had had enough. Back home and konked out.
I now feel like Larry the Cable Guy’s sister’s horse. It broke its leg, so he had to shoot it. If it’s not better soon, he’ll have to shoot it again. Now he’s got a horse with a broken leg and a gunshot wound. He’s not sure what shooting it does; must be something with the healing process.

Speaking of Easter, how did you enjoy Obama’s Easter greeting to Christians? Oh, you missed it?
That’s because he gave neither a Good Friday or Easter address. He did however go golfing.

Wagonburner –
Have you ever tried nasal irrigation? I have been prone to sinus infections (I’ve been lucky the last few years, but prior to that I’d get several a year) and when I started washing my sinuses out the severity and frequency dropped considerably. I remember one time, I just KNEW I had one coming on – could feel that pressure building and that crappy feeling edging in – and irrigated my sinuses. Instant relief and I never got sick.
I use the bottle rather than the neti pot. I bought the system (bottle and saline solution packets) and CVS. It’s cheaper than a doctor visit, and a lot quicker.
It looks gross, but it’s not nearly as gross as blowing snot for days and feeling like crap.

Pssst. Wagonburner and Tedtam. The Plan is working perfectly! Our double agents have succeeded in turning even Baptists into Catholics. Someone should call Charlie Sheen and tell him we can call off the Vatican Assassin Warlocks for a while.

There are a lot of good things that Roman Catholics do that I think everybody should be open to. โฆ
Mmmwwaaahahahahha…..
Last week a Mormon gets nailed with some holy water and didn’t actually melt right where he was standing. This week a buncha Baptists are coming right out and saying that the RC Church is not actually the Wh0re of Babylon.
What next? Lutherans deciding that maybe they just might not have gotten it right a few hundred years ago and start swimming across the Tiber (metaphorically speaking)?
Maybe B16 and the Holy Spirit are acting like Obi-Wan Kenobi and the force. “That is not the faith tradition you are looking for.” ๐

one in 10 Americans is a former member of the Catholic Church, and about half of those ex-Catholics
That can’t be right. Maybe “one in ten Christians who regularly attend church consider themselves ex-Catholics”.
It’s actually a little difficult to get Holy Mother Church to let go of you once you have been baptized in the Church, even moreso if you’ve been confirmed. You actually have to write a letter to your local Ordinary and tell him you don’t want to be Catholic anymore.

Did anyone else watch the 60 Mins piece on Mount Athos yesterday? I had never heard of the place before but I enjoyed it. It’s a peninsula in northern Greece which belongs to a group of Eastern Orthodox monasteries. They have Christian religious objects that date back for centuries. What surprised me the most was the number of American men who live there as monks.

Yep, I saw most of it. Fascinating and wonderful, even if we wimmins aren’t allowed there. (Wimmins is too distracting for the men who are trying to get ever closer to Christ.) The monasteries’ chapels were beautiful, and their faith was, too.
As far as the Catholic/Evangelical thing, I read an article a few years back discussing how some Protestant churches were allowing their members to go to confession; it seems the members were asking for it. I can’t call it a sacrament, because a Protestant approach to confession is certainly not how a Catholic understands it (much like the Eucharist and Communion), but it’s fascinating how the different ministers found the benefit in it.
Protestants. All your members will be ours!
If those “Lutherans” don’t kill us all for not submitting to Allah first.

mharper – I watched it. It was an interesting segment. I was especially intrigued with the letter the monks sent to Hitler asking that Hitler himself become the protectorate of the monastery in hopes he wouldn’t loot the place. That sounded like a proverbial deal with the devil to me, and the only reason the Nazis didn’t pillage the place was because they were too bogged down fighting the Russians.

#57 Hamster: I think the 50% number may be close. In my family, of which I was #4 of 6, 4 are no longer Catholic, yet all are deeply spiritual ( and not in the lefty moon-bat-schizzle sense), and I have met many former Catholics in my life.

What HMC wishes when someone chooses to leave is of little significance to the one who left and really only serves to falsely inflate numbers.

Gulf Tourism as Gauged by Flying Fish .
The next test of the Gulf Coast tourist economy’s recovery from last year’s massive oil spill will come this Friday when fish fly at a state-straddling roadhouse.
The Interstate Mullet Toss on the last weekend of April typically lures huge crowds to the Flora-Bama bar in Pensacola, Fla., where patrons try to throw a dead mullet fish as far as they can, from Florida across the sandy state border into Alabama.

What HMC wishes when someone chooses to leave is of little significance to the one who left and really only serves to falsely inflate numbers.
There is a reason why the Church asks you to wait until you’re essentially a young adult to accept the Sacrament of Confirmation. Once you’ve made that decision it is assumed you’ve made it with the solemnity it should be granted. There’s nothing false about it. If you choose to formally renounce your Catholicity then you should follow the process to do that. If you don’t tell anyone how else would they know?

It’s also why divorce is difficult in the Church. The couple goes through an extended interview process prior to the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony and has ample opportunity to bail out. Once they decide to go through with it, “as long as you both shall live” becomes the operative phrase.
In my case, Yellow Hair and I were married “many” years ago in a Nuptial Mass. We have two teen-aged kids. Unless one of us has some incredibly deep, dark secret that would invalidate the sacrament, we’re stuck with each other. The only way anyone is getting out of this marriage is feet-first.
Point of fact – all seven of the sacraments are that way, but the “one time only” ones are even more so – Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, and Holy Matrimony. Each involves an indelible mark on your soul.

1) THe C’s christen infants, those infants are not capable of making ANY decision of any kind. If an infant is chistened as a C, how does that leave an indelible stain/mark on its soul? The New Testament only speaks of baptism as an immersion and a free-will choice by the one being baptized.
2) My sister, one of the remaining C’s in my family, was married for 20+ years and had 5 children + 1 miscarriage. Her husband converted before they got married and went through all the stuff to be official. She was granted an annulment by the church because he admitted his heart was never fully committed to the marriage?!? She is now re-married to a widowed C and they both receive communion.
I left the C’s for cause(s) which I found in Scripture that the C’s engage in that which is prohibited.

No, not really. Whole households converted over, and that would include the children.
When you think of baptism as the opening of a gate for God, not an opening of a gate by the individual, it makes more sense.

Here’s one answer about the Catholic Church’s view on infant baptism:
Q: A non-Catholic friend has asked me how Catholics justify infant baptism from Scripture.
Neither Catholics, nor any other Christians, are compelled to justify either of these Christian practices from Scripture. We are required to justify them from revelation. Sacred Scripture does not say anything about the age of those to be baptized; but Scripture is not all of revelation (if your friend thinks otherwise, she might explain how she knows that). Relying on Scripture alone, we would be simply ignorant of what Godโs will is in this. Fortunately, Scripture did not fall down out of the sky; it was given to us by the Apostles and their successors, within a context of Church life and practice. In this manner, they handed down to us (traditio is the Latin term for โhanding down,โ by the way) elements of Godโs plan that are not explicitly contained in Sacred Scripture. Scripture and Tradition are the complementary channels that bring us Godโs Word. None of the New Testament writers ever claimed to have written down everything Jesus said and did; in fact, St. John explicitly stated the contrary (cf. John 21:20).
From the very beginning, the Church believed that it was not only permissible, but necessary, to baptize infants for salvation. Why? Because she believed that everyone โ including infants โ was affected by original sin and could be saved only by Christ. For her, the words of Christ, โUnless a man is born again of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of heavenโ (John 3:5) did not admit of any exception other than martyrdom. โThere is explicit testimony to this practice from the second century on, and it is quite possible that, from the beginning of the apostolic preaching, when whole โhouseholdsโ received baptism, infants may also have been baptizedโ (CCC 1252; cf. Acts 16:15,33; 18:8; 1 Cor. 1:16).
Not only Catholics, but also Lutherans, Episcopalians, Methodists and Presbyterians practice infant baptism.
I love Envoy magazine.

Oh I dunno. I only do this so that Hammie can pull out my picture of shame that he and my WIFE have conspired against me with.

Catholics baptize infants; we do not “christen” them.
All your anecdote regarding your sister’s marriage says is that they convinced the local Ordinary and his canon lawyers that the marriage was not sacramental.
I left the Cโs for cause(s) which I found in Scripture that the Cโs engage in that which is prohibited.
In your opinion.

TT: I have no problem at all with parents dedicating a child to THE FATHER, and a christening, the sprinkling of water on the head, is really nice; it does not represent BAPTISM, however. Baptism, or to use the original language aramaic phrase ma-amad, implies a decision that the person has made on a personal level and the phrase literally means to to stand before. When one was baptized then, the children were allowed to come which is different than being brought. It was done frequently in OT times as it symbolized a change in status from unclean to clean (leprosy and other conditions), among other things.
Baptism is an OT concept, otherwise, how would the masses have known to come and get dunked in the river if it wasn’t already viewed as an acceptable thing in the pursuit of righteousness?

It’s always surprising/dismaying/amusing/angering that people who do not (1)participate in membership of the Catholic Church, (2) do not fully understand the doctrines of the Church, or (3)have some kind of personal animosity or axe to grind with the Church keep calling for changes within the Church.
Membership in any religion is voluntary – except, in some cases, Islam, as far as I understand – so if someone is not happy with the way the Church believes and exercises Her faith, they are free to leave. This recent brouhaha with this woman whose child’s mental capacity gave her priest pause about administering First Communion is a case in point. Even many Catholics don’t understand why things are done, or not done, and instead of trying to understand come out and lash against the Church. All they do is expose their own ignorance. The woman was very upset about her child being offered the Anointing of the Sick. She told Channel 11 news that the Anointing was reserved for those about to die, and she was insulted. The story played at 6:00 pm and unchanged again at 11:00 pm. I wrote to Ch 11 and expressed how disappointed I was at their inability to confirm facts and to report the story accurately.
There were reasons to deny Communion. They were explained to the mother. She has the right to be disappointed. The Anointing is administered to those who are ill, not just the dying. On that point she is vastly ignorant, and that fact could have easily been checked. But if that had happened, the story would not have been so negative about the Church. Comments that I’ve read where this story was discussed show a lot of ignorance about the sacraments, both inside and outside the Church.
Sad.

As much as I admire your efforts to be faithful to whatever your interpretation of history and the Bible are, I’m not going against 2000 years of scholarship on the issue, by minds much greater than mine, done by spiritual descendants of those who walked with Christ himself and with whom he left the Deposit of Faith. The Deposit includes things not written.

People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them, and when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. Jesus, however, called the children to himself and said, “Let the children come to me and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” – Luke 18:15-16

Everyone who reads the Scriptures interprets them to a degree, some to a larger degree than others. That’s why in 2000 years we have some 20,000 sects in Christianity. I’m with Tedtam – I’m not willing to throw away 2000 years of scholarship because some new self-appointed scholar’s interpretation may sound better to me.

I think it all boils down the concept of authority. Who has the authority to establish norms for belief and interpretation? One of the books I recommend to my students is Paul Shea’s By What Authority?: An Evangelical Discovers Catholic Tradition. It explains it so clearly.

And before we get into whatever error the Church may have committed, remember two things: she is made up of very fallible humans and that she has flourished, not only because of, but despite those very same humans.

One other thing…
The indelible mark left on the soul by baptism?
It’s the once-again perfectly intact unscarred soul due to the removal of the stain of origal sin and any other sin committed up to that point by the person being baptized.

I always thought that Jesus changed a few rules when he began his ministry. Mayhaps I am incorrect?
Messiah had zero respect for the ORAL LAW. The Oral law was added to and treated the same as the Written Law which is in contravention to what the Torah dictates.
Deut 4:1-2
“Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I am teaching you to perform, so that you may live and go in and take possession of the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you. 2 “You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
NASU
The WRITTEN LAW will never pass away.
Matt 5:17-20
17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 “Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 “For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Do you wish to be least or greatest in THE KINGDOM?
For the sake of clarity:
The Law and the Prophets means: The Torah and the rest of the OT
Righteousness means: Commandment keeping
Deut 6:24-25
24 “So the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today. 25 “It will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as He commanded us.
NASU
You will note that all of the OT prophets basically preached the same thing; which is to repent and turn back to HIS ways which means the Torah.
ALL IS NOT ACCOMPLISHED: We have not had the battle of Armegeddon yet, we have not had the “outing ” of the anti-messiah, we have not yet gone through the great tribulation, we have not yet seen the 2 witnesses who shut up the rain for 3 1/2 years and get killed and lie in the streets of Jerusalem for 3 days for the whole world to see and then get resurrected, etc. If all is not accomplished (and clearly it is not) then THE WRITTEN LAW, is still in effect.
IF a priest/prophet/preacher preaches against what the Torah dictates then see above.
I really do understand how bitter a pill it is to take when major tenets of your faith are challenged and you are faced with the choice of : do I believe what The Scriptures actually say (translated as best as possible from the original language and context) or am I going to be bound by what I have been taught by men?
The big challenge is to show me where there is any change in THE WRITTEN LAW in the NT; this requires real discernment as to know which law (Written vs. oral) Paul is speaking of when he writes to the Galatians.
Acts 21:20-25
20 And when they heard it they began glorifying God; and they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law; 21 and they have been told about you, that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs. 22 “What, then, is to be done? They will certainly hear that you have come. 23 “Therefore do this that we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow; 24 take them and purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads; and all will know that there is nothing to the things which they have been told about you, but that you yourself also walk orderly, keeping the Law. 25
NASU
Paul took a Nazirite vow, and walked according to the Written Law all his life. He most likely serially violated the oral law but not the Written Law.
REDEMPTION IS NOT THE SAME AS SALVATION.

Hello everyone,
I’m new to this site and I look forward to adding some interesting truths with concrete facts that are deeply rooted to history (His Story) meaning God’s story not man’s views or speculations, or interpretations. If we really believe in the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, we better get started in rolling up our sleeves and not be afraid to get dirty. We must start to mature by doing some heavy duty investigating of the fact and to do that, we all have to put man made religious systems, including our own views, aside in order to really find out what the REAL TRUTH of the scriptures are and what is really being said in them. We also need to throw all the ancient historical resources on the table and begin to read and dig for the truth.

It was done frequently in OT times as it symbolized a change in status from unclean to clean (leprosy and other conditions), among other things.
Baptism is an OT concept, otherwise, how would the masses have known to come and get dunked in the river if it wasnโt already viewed as an acceptable thing in the pursuit of righteousness?
Let’s not forget that immersion into the water as many think is called (Baptizing) was done in NT times too. If we read and investigate all the resources we will find that immersion is set in motion by God Himself. It’s not a man made ritual. Again “IF” we will humble ourselves and READ the book for ourselves we will find out many many truths that have been sitting there in God’s book just waiting for all of us to read it for ourselves, instead of expecting some one else to read it for us. God’s book is an instruction book that tells us how to live. But No one wants to read it. We as a people have become very very lasy and we don’t want to read things for ourselves. I encourage all of you in this blog to read it from the beginning strait through to the very end on your own with no priest, paster, good friend etc. telling you what they think it means. The bible interprets itself. Try it.

#99 Boney, God bless ya, but we’ve been down this road many times. We can (and have) throw verses at each other all night long. I will say the Word proves my point. You will say the Word proves your point. It really goes nowhere.
For instance we’ve debated, with Scripture, whether Jesus is the new and everlasting covenant that replaces the old Law. It is as clear as day to me as I read the Scripture He is that new covenant. It is as clear as day to you He isn’t. You will never change my mind and I imagine I’ll never change yours. Let’s just head out on our paths to Salvation and hopefully, as the song says, in the sweet by-and-by we shall meet on that beautiful shore.

1) Been there done that went to catechism
2) Just because I do not agree with the conclusions the C’s have DOES NOT MEAN that I do not understand. I could just as easily make the same claim against everyone who does not agree with me, but I will not. No one knows what another truly understands and to what degree when it comes to THE WORD; to claim that you do because one does not agree with you (or your team) implies arrogance.
3) My quest is for THE TRUTH and I will not risk my immortal soul because someone says so, I have to be able to verify with the best unbiased tools I have and that is THE SCRIPTURES.
. Iโm with Tedtam โ Iโm not willing to throw away 2000 years of scholarship because some new self-appointed scholarโs interpretation may sound better to me.
Just because something has been taught for a long time does not make it correct or accurate. The intensity of one’s belief that the world is flat does not alter the fact that the world is in fact round(ish). For centuries it was believed that meat would automatically produce maggots; it was an intrinsic characteristic of the meat; that does not change the fact that it was the flys laying eggs that produced the maggots, it was not an intrinsic characteristic of the meat.
I AM NOT ASKING ANYONE TO SIMPLY BELIEVE WHAT I PROFESS SOLEY BECAUSE I SAID SO. I am suggesting that what has been taught for a long time is in error and have tried to produce the supporting evidence, in context to prove my claim(s).
Here is the real test: Is a religious practice done today mirrored in The Scriptures or is it prohibited? IF it is prohibited, like say homosexuality, and your church says it is ok then there is a real conflict and the two are mutually exclusive so who are you going to believe the UNCHANGING WORD OF ELOHIM OR THE WORD OF MAN?

Let us turn to a divinely-inspired statement of the Church’s teaching on the Law and its fulfillment:
Jesus, Israel’s Messiah and therefore the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, was to fulfill the Law by keeping it in its all-embracing detailโaccording to his own words, down to “the least of these commandments.” He is in fact the only one who could keep it perfectly. On their own admission the Jews were never able to observe the Law in its entirety without violating the least of its precepts. This is why every year on the Day of Atonement the children of Israel ask God’s forgiveness for their transgressions of the Law. The Law indeed makes up one inseparable whole, and St. James recalls, “Whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.”
This principle of integral observance of the Law not only in letter but in spirit was dear to the Pharisees. By giving Israel this principle they had led many Jews of Jesus’ time to an extreme religious zeal. This zeal, were it not to lapse into “hypocritical” casuistry, could only prepare the People for the unprecedented intervention of God through the perfect fulfillment of the Law by the only Righteous One in place of all sinners.
The perfect fulfillment of the Law could be the work of none but the divine legislator, born subject to the Law in the person of the Son. In Jesus, the Law no longer appears engraved on tables of stone but “upon the heart” of the Servant who becomes “a covenant to the people,” because he will “faithfully bring forth justice.” Jesus fulfills the Law to the point of taking upon himself “the curse of the Law” incurred by those who do not “abide by the things written in the book of the Law, and do them,” for his death took place to redeem them “from the transgressions under the first covenant.”
The Jewish people and their spiritual leaders viewed Jesus as a rabbi.340 He often argued within the framework of rabbinical interpretation of the Law. Yet Jesus could not help but offend the teachers of the Law, for he was not content to propose his interpretation alongside theirs but taught the people “as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.” In Jesus, the same Word of God, that had resounded on Mount Sinai to give the written Law to Moses, made itself heard anew on the Mount of the Beatitudes. Jesus did not abolish the Law but fulfilled it by giving its ultimate interpretation in a divine way: “You have heard that it was said to the men of old. . . . But I say to you. . . .” With this same divine authority, he disavowed certain human traditions of the Pharisees that were “making void the word of God.”
Going even further, Jesus perfects the dietary law, so important in Jewish daily life, by revealing its pedagogical meaning through a divine interpretation: “Whatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him . . . (Thus he declared all foods clean.). What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts. . . .” In presenting with divine authority the definitive interpretation of the Law, Jesus found himself confronted by certain teachers of the Law who did not accept his interpretation of the Law, guaranteed though it was by the divine signs that accompanied it. This was the case especially with the sabbath laws, for he recalls often with rabbinical arguments, that the sabbath rest is not violated by serving God and neighbor, which his own healings did. [CCC 587-582; footnotes containing references to scripture at the link]
In this section, it is clear that Jesus did indeed state categorically that he is the fulfillment of the Law and St James adds that anyone who does not follow it to the least of its precepts was as guilty as one who did not follow any of it. (578)
That said, he is clearly the only human who could have kept it perfectly. (580) begins by saying the perfect fulfillment of the Law could only be by and through the Incarnate Word (cf. John 1:1). Jesus as God is the Word, the Law. While he typically taught as a rabbi, using familiar methods for the times in which he taught as man, we must always remember he is both man and God. He is not merely the greatest philosopher and teacher of morals; were he that, he would have stature similar to Socrates, Virgil, and Aristotle.
In (581) we see that Jesus did righteously smack the Pharisees and their errant interpretations of the Law. However, in (582) we see that Jesus reveals the pedagogical intent of the Law and that that intent is the important thing to follow (viz. dietary laws and sabbath activities).
So, we see that there is an element of being correct on both sides (bone & the crazy one) here.

#109 Pyro: Your post and mine most have crossed in the spit bucket. You quoted the Mark 7:19 passage. It is really important to look at the whole thing IN CONTEXT starting in verse 1
Mark 7:1-4
7 The Pharisees and some of the scribes gathered around Him when they had come from Jerusalem, 2 and had seen that some of His disciples were eating their bread with impure hands, that is, unwashed. 3 (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they carefully wash their hands, thus observing the traditions of the elders; 4 and when they come from the market place, they do not eat unless they cleanse themselves; and there are many other things which they have received in order to observe, such as the washing of cups and pitchers and copper pots.)
NASUโWhatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him . . . (Thus he declared all foods clean.).
IN YOUR SCRIPTURES look in the introduction and find out what those parenthesis mean. . . . .that phrase WAS ADDED LATER AND WAS NOT PART OF THE ORIGINAL TEXT; further it conflicts with the subject which was washing of hands and grime. the companion text is in Matthew
Matt 15:1-4
15 Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, 2 “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” 3 And He answered and said to them, “Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?

Matt 15:15-2015 Peter said to Him, “Explain the parable to us.” 16 Jesus said, “Are you still lacking in understanding also? 17 “Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? 18 “But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. 19 “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. 20 “These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.”
NASU1) The subject in the whole passage IN BOTH CASES is THE WASHING OF HANDS and the grime associated, NOT FOOD. Block-quoting got messed up.

From the link:
Certain Holy Week observances long affiliated with more liturgical traditions are being re-purposed and incorporated into evangelical congregations, home to increasing numbers of former Catholics and mainline Protestants.
So now Mormons need to worry about defective holy water not melting them and Evangelicals need to be on the lookout for undercover “former” Catholics. The ecumenical Catholics are on the march. Soon the whole world will be drinking beer and loading drugs up their a$$es over the nearest sign of a sinus infection.
Was there a Biblical prophecy about all this? ๐

In their recent book, American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us, David Campbell and Robert Putnam encounter an instinctively tolerant American people. To pluck just one statistic from the Faith Matters Survey, which the authors use as the basis of their book, the overwhelming majorityโ82%โof self-described โhighly religiousโ Americans believe that even those who do not have religious faith can be good Americans.
The benefits of religious belief are well-known. Pious Americans are happier, more charitable, and better citizens than their secular counterparts. Which helps explain why, as a nation of pious people, America is welcoming to all people.

Western civilizationโs notion of God-given freedom and unalienable rights grew out of Athens and Jerusalem and Rome. It was actualized in Philadelphia. And it has inspired ever since. It was evident in Abraham Lincolnโs Gettysburg Address, and the movements to abolish slavery and to end abortion.
It helped galvanize those who opposed communism in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, and it animated the Chinese students who held copies of Americaโs Declaration of Independence in Tiananmen Square.
We are not an exclusively Christian nation. But, as Christians celebrate Easter, the death and resurrection of their Savior, letโs acknowledge an indisputable realityโthat it has been to the benefit of Christians and non-Christians alike across the globe that America was founded as, and remains, a country rooted in Judeo-Christian values and ideals.
An extremely good article by Gary Bauer.
