April 12th. Lots of big stuff has happened on April 12th.
April 12, 1861 – Confederate forces opened fire on Fort Sumter, starting the US Civil War. After many hours of heavy bombardment and with minimal casualties, France Union forces surrendered.

April 12, 1961 – Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space, orbiting the Earth one time. This marked the beginning of the space race between the US and USSR.

April 12, 2011 – France inaugurates the ban on covering one’s face in public. This will likely result in substantial seething among the immigrant population in France.

I tend to refrain from social issues, but:

Had the gays not started pushing for same-sex marriage to be legalized, there would have been no need at all for the countervailing push to prevent that from happening.

OK, This would be my unbiased opinion about the Shuttles, yes I said unbiased, based on facts. Overall, elections are a good thing, but they don’t substantiate the existence of any kind of monolithic “society” at all.
