There we are! Neat Picture.
Mornin’ Gang
And as I mentioned late yesterday, after y’all had closed up shop, thanks for all the birthday wishes, it was a long day, but a good one. My first “Happy Birthday” came from Lee, from down-under. She posted about 4 PM Sunday, but it was Monday morning on Mt Tamborine.
Belated Happy Birthday SD!
MANY Happy returns!
Good murky, overcast, and too-warm-for-February morning Hamsters. Dampish 71(!) at 6, air you can wear but not yet smothering, and maybe at last some rain on the way for us. Pansies need a natural drink or we have to activate the sprinkler system.
Love the canyon pics. Lots of spectacular things to see in the desert SW. Just viewing the pics made me slightly dizzy. Definitely not the place for claustrophobes.
I just saw a Wood Duck, fly over the house. It looked like he came from the little pond and was headed towards Hutto’s big 11 acre pond, odd that he’d be alone. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one down there, I see lots of them on the big pond but it is in the edge of the woods.
Over on the Gregg Shorthand page a young man has a fabulous idea for a mystery thriller – a clue left in shorthand that can be interpreted in more than one way.
Gregg is a phonetic language, and can be dependent upon context for a full translation. “Dinner” and “dimmer” can look very similar, for example. Some words look exactly the same: “mean” and “men”. I have some 1933 Gregg books and in the beginning, there were diacritical marks to indicate specific vowel sounds, but they were dropped over the years for speed. “Cot” and “Coat” are usually able to be discerned because no one puts on a cot to go out into the cold.
So this guy wants to have a clue written in shorthand and is looking for suggestions for such “doubly interpretable” sentences. I love it.
Now that I’ve finished breakfast, I need to get moving. I gots Nona duty for a sick girl in the Dallas area. I started packing last night, but I need to wash dishes and finish packing to get moving. I really want to avoid the traffic in big D.
On Saturday, we went to Pineapple Willy’s for supper and a nice lady took our picture, she tired to get the sunset in the background….And, yes, I had beach hair. 😀
Morning gang. Whatever STD some of you had regarding refreshing the comments has now reached Old Red, who is my netbook traveling companion when I’m on the road. It now only updates when I log in or post something, so I guess the refresh disease is contagious. Anyway, still hanging out in Big D. Not much to see or do up here, so may head back to the action in SS in a couple of days. I’m hoping that each and every one of you has a great one. More later.

Who knew that these birds can run on the water??? Totally amazing!
I don’t know if ya’ll saw my yesterday’s: Benchrest Shooter Posts Stunning 1.068” Group at 1000 Yards – New World Record! The boy went to the range on Sunday and was hitting the 1000 Yd Gong about every other shot, with a plain Jane, Ruger in 6.5 MM Creedmoor with a killer, $2K scope on it. He also shot the Pig @ 600 Yds, a bunch of times with an AR and a Red Dot sight. He said he seldom missed at that range.
Now he wants one of these; Christensen Arms, Modern Precision Rifle, in 6.5.
I’d have to have the 338 Lapua.
Who knew that these birds can run on the water??? Totally amazing!

10 years ago, I was a big fan of Kevin Williamson, but then I soured on him when he started writing all those scathing articles about addicted and suicidal white men. Somehow he blamed conservatism. I don’t read him any more, but not surprised to see a piece revealing him as a Never Trumper.
Williamson seems to believe the United States should be governed by two-dimensional philosopher-kings a la Mitt Romney, straightforward sorts who would never stoop to politics, populism, trickery, or strategic name calling. Anyone who stoops should fall beneath contempt and receive obliteration.
No, for the Romney Fan Club, losing nobly is the way to go. It doesn’t matter if we wind up in a socialist dystopia, as long as we’ve got that public front of buttery integrity to keep us warm when the natural gas gets shut off by Bernie and Secretary of Greenness Ocasio-Cortez.
I just saw a Wood Duck, fly over the house
How much wood
could a wood duck duck
if a wood duck could duck wood?
Satellite images appear to show that airstrikes attributed to Israel destroyed one of the primary headquarters in Syria of Iran’s Quds Force, the elite branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that for nearly a decade has been waging war on behalf of the Assad regime. Released by the private intelligence firm IntelSat, the photographs seem to confirm reports that five structures were hit, including a weapons depot. The airstrikes took place last Thursday around Damascus International Airport, where an Iranian arms shipment is said to have just landed. Among the seven people reportedly killed were Iranian military officers. Jerusalem has stayed mum on the issue, with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu offering up in an interview the day after only: “Maybe it was the Belgian air force.”
It looks like LD2’s fever has broken, so the emergency run to Dallas has been put on hold. SIL is now sick, and I told Lovely Daughter that if Sunshine becomes ill, my stuff will remain half-packed for an emergency run.
Just in case.
I’d love to visit, but I’m still wrangling our last big job, a misplaced work order (customer mistake) – both of which need to be handled before end of month. I also need to finish planning and executing my adult mini retreat and the reception for our students returning from their retreat, at the end of the month.
I may need to run to Bryan to sign a lease for our replacement tenants for the Tenants From Hell.
I can go if needed, but if not, the need for me to be at my desk is stronger. For now.
Oh, and much belated happy birthday wishes!
Oh, I almost forgot, Happy Birthday Sarge! 😉
Whoa Sarge taking another Solar lap?
MANY happy returns!!
12. Fitty bucks sez @martinthemanic is a rich white trust fund baby who hates his parents.
Uh oh. The refresh monkey got me too. I was stuck on Kevin Williamson until I logged in.
Happy Birthday Sarge!
Heh. His Twitter account no longer exists.
Williamson is an OG never trumper.
Happy Birthday Sarge. Many more trips around the Sun to you.

OG is what, Hammy?
Old Guard?
The economy is doing great… thank Obama?!?
Yesterday was the eleven year anniversary of Obama signing his so-called economic stimulus package into law, which he credited for the longest streak of job creation in American history.
Read on to see Matt Palumbo thoroughly discredit that notion.
I gotsta get me one of these.
What could possibly go wrong?
Yes. Despite the determined efforts of ex wives and girlfriends, disgruntled employees and employers, neighbors, second and third cousins, various restaurant owners, left wing politicians, and the intelligence agencies of governments unfriendly to the United States, I have completed another orbit without reaching terminal velocity. Thanks for the well wishes. I shall endeavor to persevere.
Not sure why Trump would commute Blagojevich’s sentence.

I was trying to make the point that Williamson has been a never trumper from the get-go.
Williamson has been a huge disappointment. Such talent and all gone to waste.
Boy Scouts of America files bankruptcy in wake of sexual abuse claims.
I’m thinking that had they never shifted their position on open homosexuality, they would have much higher participation by the yutes of today. The risk of homo-abuse would not have been there.

Mueller headed the FBI during the investigation into Blagojevich. Former FBI director James Comey was the bureau’s attorney general and Pat Fitzgerald was the U.S. attorney in Chicago.
Blagojevich got 14 years for probably doing what every other politician does on a daily basis in Chicago or the entire state of Illinois, for that matter. Trump is obviously not a believer in long prison sentences for a lot of people given his prison reform project with Kanye & Co.

Try saying that 3 times fast.
The cold front has just pushed into Bellville.
I tried to call in a utility locate yesterday, but the system wouldn’t work. Okay, I thought, I can wait a day. One day.
Try logging on this afternoon and there’s a huge-font warning notifying everyone that the system was down but that the phones were still working. Crap. We’re on a tight deadline. So I call.
I spoke to “Bill,” who informed me that yes, the phones were working but the WHOLE DANG COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS DOWN. How do you trash a huge system like that? An interface is bad enough, but to have the whole database, interface, programming – nothing left? For two days!? (and counting…)
He was nice and took the info. I could tell he was not used to collecting the locate information and typing it into the computer, so I was ever so patient with him. I kindly repeated my email address five times – he kept hearing “pacman” instead of “tapman” and that cracked me up. He had no idea when he’d be able to submit the info, and no telling where I am in the queue.
I imagine that when the system comes up, there’s gonna be a herd of monkeys typing away to get all those locate requests put in. And prolly not a 48 hour guarantee on the actual marks being put down, as per law.
Years ago, we had 3 locate centers. The first one closed, and I thought, well, that happens. When LoneStar was closing down, we were told on the sly that DigTess/Texas811 had basically broken their agreement that had been in place for years, dealing with no backcharging for sharing locate requests between the two firms. They were bankrupting LoneStar legally, but in a scummy way. I thought “dirty pool!” but had no choice.
So now, we have one locate center, which is good in some ways…but I imagine that the LoneStar execs are laughing their butts off at this current situation.
I wonder what the fines are going to be?
Karma.

The years that I was calling and requesting locates, I always preferred dealing with LoneStar, and eventually would hang up and call back until I could get a LoneStar operator.
The other folks were moronic robots, sticking to their stupid script, refusing to let let me make the info understandable for the Locator in the field.
Using the online Request format was very iffy in the early days, so I didn’t trust it.
I thought Squawkbox Jihad would be a great name for my new emu companion.
Can you buy belly bands and potty pads for emu companions?
I didn’t even know there was such a thing as an avalanche airbag.

The vast majority of these cases are 30 years old or more. This means it’s guys in their 40s and 50s filing these claims. New York, California, and some other states passed laws last year eliminating the statute of limitations on abuse.
BSA has improved immensely in this regard over the past 25 years or so. They take youth protection very seriously. I have to renew training annually. I submit to an annual background check annually. There is always 100% of the time a two deep leadership requirement. No one on one contact with kids… this includes electronically via text or email (always copy mom/dad/guardian). All interactions have to be visible to others. You can have a private conversation at a camp out. It just needs to occur out in the open. There are mandatory reporting requirements to the authorities for suspected or alleged abuse.
I am actually very curious about the percentage of these cases that involve Mormon Troops. When the gays were allowed in, that started the rift between BSA and the Mormons. Allowing the girls in sealed the deal and now the Mormons have completely severed ties with BSA. The Mormons represented close to one third of BSA membership. This is another reason BSA is having cash flow issues. With the Mormons out they no longer contribute any cash flow to help pay for the future settlement of these abuse cases. That means someone like me gets to shoulder a larger share through increased fees which has already happened BTW at the beginning of this year.
Here is the open letter addressed directly to all abuse victims. It will be published in USA Today as a full page ad in tomorrow’s issue.
Here is a link to some of the training modules that the BSA has created and made public for everyone’s education.
In the mean time, Scouting at the local level will carry on. The local Councils are independent businesses units and not being sued. The different units (Troops/Packs/Crews/Ships) are where the rubber really hits the road. A lot of good values as identified in the Scout Law and Scout Oath are continually being instilled.

BSA’S stated reason for filing for bankruptcy is to reorganize so they can create a special fund from which to pay these settlements.
I just got a call from a marking tech about an emergency dig up in Rockdale. This definitely did not come from me. The tech had no idea why he got an email instead of his usual system message until I told him about the system FUBAR situation. No one has told the field guys what is going on.
Somewhere in Rockdale someone has hit some kind of utility and is waiting for a crew to come out and resolve the situation. Here’s hoping it’s not electrical service to a hospital or a homebound person on an oxygen machine. Or a gas line that is accumulating gas into a potentially explosive situation.
I was asked to text the tech that I didn’t request the emergency dig up to provide him his CYA. Poor guy sounded pretty stressed. And grateful to me for explaining the situation and being so understanding.
You city people aren’t the only ones.
Although I will say that if there is an axle-breaking chug hole out here, they will fix it quickly. From what I’ve seen on the local news, that’s not the case in Houston.

Get this. Chris Bell is one of two “conservatives”. Bell called out the AOC clone on the Green Nude Eel.

Dang HOA nazi management company sent me an email telling me to trim lower tree growth. No mention of which tree needs trimming. Not that any of them require trimming.
I do have an apple tree in my side yard that looks like a bush because it doesn’t have one main trunk. As far as they need to know, it is a 12′ tall bush.
What is Bell running for now?
In the Dem Primary for US Senator.
If anyone lives in Harris County precinct 3 I can personally recommend Tom Ramsey for commissioner. He was my boss in the 80s and early 90s. Good man.
