San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy
The small town of San Gimignano lies conveniently on one of most important medieval pilgrimage routes. Its inhabitants exploited the situation well. Made quickly rich by the constant influx of pilgrims, the families of San Gimigano wanted to show off. Each of them yearned to have a palace, but only thing that could be crammed between the tight confines of town walls was a tower. Merchant families of San Gimignano entered an informal contest of building a higher and more splendid stone tower. The law forbade building the tower higher than the main communal one, known as Rognosa. Owning one become a status symbol. At the peak of fashion San Gimignano boasted no less the 72 of them.

Great Shot!
28 with ice in the bird baths, first freeze this year, we’ve had frost, a few times, but not freezing conditions. I just got back from the Farm House to make sure everything is OK, and it was, not cold enough to bust the bark.
Mornin’ Gang -
It’s not because it’s 17° F here this morning that I know hell froze over; it’s because I found out I agree with Hillary Clinton on something. From the Hollywood Reporter interview about the new Hulu Hillary documentary:
Interviewer Lacey Rose:
In the doc, you’re brutally honest on Sanders: “He was in Congress for years. He had one senator support him. Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done. He was a career politician. It’s all just baloney and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it.” That assessment still hold?
Hillary:
Yes, it does.
Lacey Rose:
If he gets the nomination, will you endorse and campaign for him?
Hillary:
I’m not going to go there yet. We’re still in a very vigorous primary season. I will say, however, that it’s not only him, it’s the culture around him. It’s his leadership team. It’s his prominent supporters. It’s his online Bernie Bros and their relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women. And I really hope people are paying attention to that because it should be worrisome that he has permitted this culture — not only permitted, [he] seems to really be very much supporting it. And I don’t think we want to go down that road again where you campaign by insult and attack and maybe you try to get some distance from it, but you either don’t know what your campaign and supporters are doing or you’re just giving them a wink and you want them to go after Kamala [Harris] or after Elizabeth [Warren]. I think that that’s a pattern that people should take into account when they make their decisions.

Ever wonder how big that cutter ant colony is on your property?
According to the original report by MailOnline, this team of scientists was led by professor Luis Forgi, who had originally toiled ten days straight, injecting 10 tons of solid concrete into the structure’s “ventilation ducts, ” that once served to breathe fresh air into this ancient wonder of the insect world.
See Video.

I wonder if M42 has relatives in Palm Beach?
Well, I think that she may have some in Coles Mill, Alabama, driving through there, the other day, I spotted an old Camry, under a carport with six cats sunning on the rear deck,….I knew I shoulda’ stopped and taken a picture. 😀

1951 GMC 100 Series 1/2 ton Home Built Custom Woodie
When Central Point, Oregon resident and GMC truck enthusiast Jerre Fisher decided he would like a challenge, he looked at a ’51 1/2 ton pickup he had and thought; “hmm, maybe I could cut here, remove there, and build my own woodie”. Six years and thousands of hours of work later, this is what he had built…in his driveway…with simple tools…and a lot of commitment. Jerre’s faithful pet parrot was there with him offering advice every step of the way. To me, this is nothing short of astonishing.

Yesterday, I had planned to ask the question; “Are there really any White Supremacist’s going to the pro-gun rally in Virginia”? After all, there are only about a dozen left in the whole country. And, just as I thought, the Governor just made it up, basically saying that ANYONE attending was a White Supremacist.
Along those lines, Sarge, posted this over yonder;
NBC News’ Ben Collins slammed for warning of ‘white nationalist rally in Virginia.Ahead of Monday’s gun-rights rally in Virginia, NBC News reporter Ben Collins labeled the event a “white nationalist” gathering Sunday, even as he warned against spreading “made-up stuff” on Twitter — prompting scores of critics to point out the apparent irony, and to condemn his network for sanctioning Collins’ checkered reporting on the so-called “dystopia beat.”
“Reporters covering tomorrow’s white nationalist rally in Virginia, I’m absolutely begging you: Verify information before you send it out tomorrow, even if it’s a very sensational rumor you heard from a cop,” Collins wrote in his since-deleted tweet. “Don’t become a hero in neo-Nazi propaganda circles with made-up stuff.”

After much flip-flopping, a $569 million Midland ISD school bond election failed Friday by 26 votes now that county workers have taken into account ballots found in a missing box located weeks after Election Day.
The local election had drawn the attention of the Texas secretary of state’s office and some lawmakers due to the numerous twists and turns. On election night, Midland voters watching the polls initially believed the bond passed by 18 votes because of the results posted on Midland County’s election website. But a week after the posting, officials clarified to reporters that the election night tally didn’t include mail-in votes. Once those numbers were taken into account, officials believed the bond failed by 25 votes, according to Deborah Land, elections administrator for the Midland County Elections Office.

Not sure what this is about, but a neat picture of my lovely Bride just popped up. Bluebonnets in Sweetwater April 2017.

#16 Texpat, yup, daughter has been keeping me informed about that. She says, that they’ll bring up the whole thing again, in hopes of getting it passed. She also says that it is a monumental waste of money,…what a surprise?? A School District wanting too much money for unnecessary things? Who’d a thunk it.

18 Super Dave
You know, this ain’t brain surgery or quantum physics.
The Midland ISD has announced results four different times and the vote was so close it flipped back and forth. People come in, identify themselves, fill out a paper ballot, stick it in a box. You gather and inventory ALL the ballot boxes and then you count them – twice to be sure.
WTH ?

The guy at the Virginia rally with the Barrett 50 cal. is from Bergen, New York, up near Lake Ontario.

I’m finally getting my butt moving, about to start work. I let myself sleep in because I didn’t get much sleep over the long weekend.
I made wonderful, wonderful memories with my granddaughters, though. I got my morning wake-up calls from smiling faces, complete with cuddles. LD2 liked the birthday presents that Pop-pop and I gave her, SCORE! At bedtime, they asked me for a made-up story instead of reading from a book; it’s one of my specialties. I taught Sunshine a “hand song” I learned as a child: “Miss Lucy Had a Baby”. While learning the hand gestures there was much giggling, with much satisfaction when she was finally able to sing the song AND do the hand clapping and slapping together. Sunshine was more cuddly on this trip than before, and I enjoyed sitting with her in my lap as we watched her TV shows. We had an involved discussion as they helped me select a veil for mass. We attended a showing of the second Frozen movie, and LD2 was very careful to inform me of upcoming events during the movie. We rode on a carousel. I bought them some time on a bungee jumping “ride” (as in getting harnessed with bungee cords and jumping on a trampoline device – not jumping off a cliff). They LOVED that! I also showed them how to make butter from heavy whipping cream and we talked a little about the composition of foods. As L’il Darlin’ says, “It’s SCIENCE!” They now have their very own supply of homemade butter and about 2 cups of buttermilk, which we saved for Mommy to use in her cooking.
Lots of great memories. Love them so much!
It’s hard to go back to work. Kinda like riding an a unicorn and then changing over to a donkey.

#21 SD: Was the honkey holding a .50 Barrett?
Yup, I want one soo bad, but I’m not sure where I’d shoot the dang thang. The boy goes to a range in Kalifornia that has ranges out to 1500 yards. He regularly bangs the gong at 800 Yds with his buddy’s 6.5 Creedmore. I’m guessing that his next rifle will be one of those.

That Midland school bond thing is very unusual. Usually the old hidden ballot box stuffed in the back of someone’s car favors TPTB, namely the bond supporters. Highly irregular that it would cause the bond’s defeat. But it’s just a set-up for the next election, that’s already underway. Those people who want public money never give up and accept defeat, they just reorganize, shuffle the deck a little, and come back with a new election as soon as the law allows. They figure, and are usually right, that eventually the voters will tire of seeing the same thing on the ballot time after time and will give in and vote for it; or more likely, they will just schedule an election for some off time that no one knows about, give the teachers a day off to go to the polls located where no one else can find them, and vote to get the thing approved. But they never give up.

Illinois is updating its birth certificate system to affirm the gender identities of transgender parents, after a transmasculine person asked to be officially recognized as a father who gave birth to their daughter.
Myles and Precious Brady-Davis of Chicago learned after their daughter, Zayn, arrived in December that the Illinois Department of Public Health automatically names the parent who gives birth as “Mother/Co-Parent” on a birth certificate.
Myles Brady-Davis is transmasculine, which describes a person who was born female but is typically masculine in gender expression. Transmasculine people do not always identify as male. Myles, who uses they/them pronouns, carried and gave birth to Zayn and wants to be listed as her father, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Good Grief ! The state of Illinois is bankrupt and Chicago is the murder capital of America. They have enough problems already.

I watched a movie on Pureflix over the weekend, “A Promise to Astrid”. Based on a true story, a Norwegian woman who emigrated to America sought out situations where she could help others. While she lived in a simple home filled with images of Angels and talked to God often, she was a wealthy woman who quietly used her money to help others. Each time, she made them promise not to tell anyone of her gift. She refused repayment.
One such event was her new neighbors, a young couple where the wife was in an accident and they lost her car. Astrid cleverly gave the couple the *exact* amount to acquire the new vehicle. No one knew how much it would cost to buy the new car, but Astrid provided the exact amount, to the penny. She also bought a new swing set for the church and insisted the church take the old swing set to the young couple for their boys to play on. She funded the final phase of a project to provide a home for the disabled. The stories go on. She never wanted recognition nor repayment. When the young man of the new neighbor couple insisted on repaying her, she finally agreed but on her terms: $1/week, starting 6 months later (March 8th, in the movie).
She died on March 8th. That lady was in great communion with God. I love the whole “Secret Santa” thing. That’s been a dream of mine: to have enough money to secretly make a difference in people’s lives like that.
I want to be Astrid when I grow up.

The mother is a woman who wants to be a man. The father is a man who became a tranny and is pretending to be the mother.
And the child will be an emotional mess.
Let’s not forget the children. It’s all about the children, right?

Meanwhile in New Jersey, the Left has become clever and more devious in their siege of Western ethics and morality. Instead of mandating specific classes for K-12 public school students, they are rewriting history, English, math, all subjects to be embedded with LGBQT ideological agitprop. There is no way for parents to opt out of this.
Twelve New Jersey schools will begin piloting a new LGBTQ-focused curriculum this month, the first wave of a new requirement that will soon be mandated across the state, bringing another front in the culture wars straight into Garden State classrooms.
The pilot sites to be announced by the state Tuesday — including schools in Hackensack, Morristown, Newark and Asbury Park — are intended to be proving grounds for new lessons in history, economics and even grammar designed to improve awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender contributions and issues. The instruction, approved by the state last year, will be a requirement for all of New Jersey’s public schools starting in the fall.

Unless a special enough special interest group is negatively affected… -
It’s painfully obvious that “progressives” hate children. They want to damage them emotionally so they will have no chance of a normal adult life. That’s if they don’t kill them before they’re born. They use them as political props such as luring the parents through deserts with coyotes and cartels to a dangerous border crossing where many drown, all so they can show Obama era photos of “children in cages”. Then there’s the Asperger Brat.
-
There is no way for parents to opt out of this.
There are a couple of ways but they require money and commitment. Most parents use public schools as “free” daycare. They have no commitment.
Another way would be to stop electing politicians who buy into these perverse notions. But that requires a level of critical thinking that many do not possess. Then there are the teachers unions…

You throw enough money at competitors and they’ll finally cave.
The $1.4 billion acquisition of shaving startup Harry’s by Schick owner Edgewell Personal Care may be on a razor’s edge, The Post has learned.
Lawyers with the Federal Trade Commission continue to raise concerns about the tie-up despite months of review — raising questions about whether the deal will close by March as planned, sources told The Post.
I’m still with Dollar Shave Club, but I might switch depending on what happens. They sold out to Unilever 3 years ago.

Sickening. At least it isn’t the filthy Leftists at Gillette.

I’d sell if someone started lobbing those kinds of phat stax of cash at me.
-
Dang, I’ve been a fan of Harry’s for a long time. I hate to have to start shopping around again for a new brand. You know that, no matter what they say, the quality will go down and the price will go up when they sell out. But, when you’re talking that kind of cash, who would not cash out.
Now, back to the impeachment BS. A big axe handle taken to a few of those managers seems to be in order as far as I’m concerned. I don’t think those Senators, at least the Reps, appreciate having the leftist weasels telling them what they need to be doing, but then of course, we must realize they are only talking to Susan Collins and her gang of squishes.

I just spent the last hour listening to some fat azzed knee grow woman rehash some Trump accusations, and the Trump lawyers took their turn and smashed her argument in less that 10 minutes. I’m about convinced that the more the Dems think they have to talk about and issue, the more desperate they are since they know they have nothing. More from the bar scene in Star Wars it’s looking like.

I (vaguely) remember the Watergate hearings. All the networks were wall-to-wall with coverage.
Why do we not see the same when The Fate of the Republic and, By Extension, That of the Entire Universe is at stake, from what I’ve been led to understand we are currently observing?

With the voter registration deadline for the March 3 primaries just two weeks away, the state is already on the brink of having 2 million more registered voters than it did just four years ago when President Donald Trump was first elected.

President Trump’s lengthy trial brief does not explain why, even now, he has not offered any documents or witnesses in his defense or provided any information in response to the House’s repeated requests. This is not how an innocent person behaves.
Actually, a person who is not guilty behaves exactly that way if they have been falsely charged and the prosecution has presented no evidence to even support the false accusations. There is no need to defend obvious innocence. If this were a criminal trial presided over by a judge concerned with the integrity of his courtroom, he would dismiss this case with prejudice. -

GOP House: Here’s our witness list.
Schiff: You can’t have any witnesses.

Adee, new emails for you, my dear.

She-Jack would have been a more appropriate choice for House Manager.
-
I’m watching FoxNews coverage of the event and mostly I am convinced that Juan Williams must have been dropped on his head many times in his youth. The case has to be made by the House BEFORE they bring it to the Senate. They couldn’t even make the case using only Democrat favored witnesses and second hand information.
-
I tried watching the nonsense in the Senate for about 20 minutes. The blistering barrage of lying BS from the G-dless lying Ds was more than I could bear.
-
The Senators are supposed to be sitting undisturbed in the chamber for this hearing, and without electronic devices. However, it is probably safe to assume that staffers have access to twitter accounts. Anyway, former Clinton press secretary just told on Ted Cruz because some tweets are emanating from his account while this show is going on in the Senate. Since I don’t know how to copy it, I’ll just tell you about his response, which is a classic. It’s the Goliad flag with a cell phone image replacing the cannon, with the caption “COME AND TAKE IT.” I’m sure you can find it out there somewhere to view if you want to.
-
I didn’t watch one minute of Clinton’s Senate trial. Everyone knew how it was going to end. I’ve watched a few minutes of this today but I won’t be glued to the TV. Outcome will be the same.

I didn’t realize Gary Gates was in a runoff for an unexpired term in Texas House District 28.This guy has been trying to get on the government dole for years, though an apparently successful real estate guy.

Here’s a link to the map of Texas State House of Representatives District 28. Interesting.
I’ve always thought the craziest place in Texas for municipal management was Katy. The town sits in three different counties, one state senate district, three different Texas House districts and three different US House districts.
It’s got to be a real headache.

I’m quite certain Katfish has never figured out every jurisdiction in which he resides.About the time the tax notices start arriving, he develops a tic.

The biggest creep in America. Enemy of the Republic.

I hope they actually take him to trial, though I don’t believe that will happen.
Most likely outcome is they give him a glass of bourbon and a pistol loaded with one round and take him to the parlor and tell him to “do the right thing”.

Well, it’s now very apparent that the Dems do not want to start the impeachment trial. They are determined to kill the next week or so with bringing up resolutions which require debate for 2 hours and then get voted down – but apparently there is no limit as to the number of amendments that they can offer. Their case is so weak that they do not actually want to present it. Now I’ve got no idea why they are stalling for time, unless they intend to try to run out the clock before the election, stymie the judicial nominees, and hold this impeachment stuff over Trump’s head during the election. So, Super Mitch is going to have to come up with something to put a stop to it, but I know nothing about the rules of the Senate and what they may have agreed to for this impeachment. Stall, stall, stall.
-
I watched House Impeachment Manager Hakeem Jeffries argue for witnesses in the impeachment trial by recalling that witnesses testified in Nixon’s impeachment trial.
A couple of problems there. Nixon was not impeached so there was no trial.
-
Now I’ve got no idea why they are stalling for time
One thought I had: it ties up Bernie and Lieawatha for the early primaries to give Slow Joe a leg up.
-
I’m pretty sure that’s not it. They really don’t care who gets the nomination since they know it’s a losing proposition anyway. They know that Trump is going no where except back to the WH, so I think they are just stalling for time to prevent more judges coming forward. Could mean that Ruth is on her way out for instance. Who knows. But the Dems never give up and they stick together. One of these days I would not mind if they happened to be attacked by a pack of wild dogs though. What’s the old joke – what’s black and brown and looks good on a Dem?
