Hey, we have a weekend thread, thanks, Texpat.
Mornin’ Gang,…again. -
Brought over from Friday’s thread;
Shannon, the rain started about 5:30 and ended an hour later. It rained fairly hard and we got ¾” enough to kick-start my Wheat/Oat patch. The TS is heading into northeast Florida and on into Georgia, so we’ll be on the dryer side, I hope we get a few more of the outer bands during the day though. It is still sprinkling a little, has been since the real rain stopped.
Radar Map, the band of rain, north of Troy, passed through 5:30-6:30.

So should I use Troy to keep up with your weather?

Got my drive thru flu shot at the hospital just now.

Oh. Marley Mill.
It’s a pretty good jaunt to Troy. -
No Post Office in Marley Mill.
Must have an Ozark address. -
Maternal Grandpappy was from Burnt Corn. They used to have a post office but now it’s considered part of the greater Evergreen metropolitan area.

There are many systems. I have no idea which one is best.

Morning gang. I’m not feeling real chipper this morning – a cold or a touch of the flu or something. I use a wireless range extender on my wi-fi to give coverage to the back of the house. Those wired ones work pretty well too if you are looking to go in one specific direction, It’s college football Saturday and I can’t even get excited about that. Anyway, you all have a great one.
-
Tell BSue HELLO!
-
I had to go with a whole home mesh network. I had been using a wi-fi extender but the download speeds were horrible.
I now wish I had gone with a mesh network much sooner.

#12 Texpat, Like I said yesterday, I think she has lost her damn mind.

Morning, chickadees! I have been out with step-stool and hand clippers, trimming away the shaggy new growth that spurted out on my ligustrums, after some good rains. Taking a rehydrate, dry-out, breathe-deep break.

1959 GMC 101 NAPCO front driving axle Civil Defense Truck
Lannon Fire Department of Lannon Wisconsin contacted me about 8-10 years ago as they were ready to retire and sell their ’59 GMC NAPCO 4×4. They had no idea of value or how to sell it so I offered a number of suggestions which all worked exceedingly well for them. It brought a whole lot more value than they ever expected. Except for the light bar, its was still pretty much as delivered in ’59

Those systems look like repeaters. Looking at crossing about 150 feet of open space, from one home to another. A Roku was purchased for the second home here without thinking about the wifi access.

That happens from time to time.Worst one I saw was a a OU-Nebraska game when it used to pretty much decide who went to the Irange Bowl that year. The students were busy inundating the field with prohibited oranges while the band played Boomer Sooner and the Wagon was doing its thing. While the Ruf-Neks (spirit group) we’re trying to get all the hundred of oranges off the field, the wagon ran over him.
It’s amazing how students can manage to smuggle that many really bulky oranges into a stadium where they were almost frisking everyone on the way in.

Way to go Astros, Roll Tide and WHOOP! Last night I was watching the Astros play the Yankees and flipping over to the Aggies playing Ole Miss and then the Alabama, Tennessee game came on. I about wore out the remote, luckily they were on channels #23, #24, #27. And if Texpat’s , #44 “Damn, this is nerve-wracking. I never get used to it.” Was about the Astros game, I can relate! I did get sucked into the Playoff game the most though.

1953 GMC 632-42 Road Tractor with integral sleeper.
I’ve never seen another one like this and it was very striking and unique. Owned by John Holmes of Vineyard Haven, MA, I shot these images 15 years ago at a little show in Foster RI. Sadly, John passed away at age 60 just two years after I took these photos. “Big John” was a very talented engineer, welder, and metal fabricator. He was also the maintenance engineer for the Flying Horses Carousel in Oak Bluffs
John was fascinated throughout his life with American transportation history, particularly the railroad, shipping and trucking industries. He was a commercial truck driver for some time, and an antique truck enthusiast. He fully restored the 1953 GMC 630, which he frequently took to antique truck shows around New England which was no easy task as it always involved boarding the ferry to reach the mainland.. He enjoyed driving the ’53 630 immensely, and loved to travel, either alone or with his daughter or friends.
Big John was a good guy and friend to all of us in the antique truck world in New England.

Brantley’s outstanding double play in the 7th (with video).

-

“[Brantley’s] throw to first was clocked at 86.9mph.”
-
Also in my 61:
“The Astros completed their defensive trifecta in the eighth with a perfectly executed 4-6-3 double play on a Gary Sánchez ground ball. José Altuve fielded the ball and made a high toss to Carlos Correa, who then fired a 94.5 mph missile to Gurriel for the inning-ending double play.
Correa’s throw was the hardest Statcast has tracked from a shortstop on a throw to first that resulted in an out since it began tracking this data in 2015.“ -
Not being able to see the game on TV, these online videos are the first I’ve seen of it.
The Altuve walkoff homer is just amazing. -
See ya later Yankees.
Again.
Darn. Gotta buy another pennant collector’s mug.
The last one is my favorite, even more so than the World Series one.
-
That Michael Brantley play was just incredible. The catch was great, but jumping up and throwing an 87 mph burner into first base was…just wow.

We’ll be able to see the Series.

Yeah, I saw several videos of that chaos. These Extinction protesters are so stupid they don’t understand they are undermining their cause by infuriating the general public.
It’s different for those farmers in the Netherlands. Over 80% of the Dutch public backs the farmers.

#71:. Scrubs guy is a hero. Too bad he didn’t have the equipment in hand to give a few hickory shampoos. PEACEFUL protests do not involve blocking traffic – ever.
If this sort of nonsense continues, some guy or gal is going to use more lethal means to make it stop. -
The Dutch farmers did that to get the attention of their parliament. I would imagine it’s like it is here where the globalist loons are so hellbent on implementing their vision that they don’t listen to their own constituents.

There were numerous defensive gems by the Astros in this series, they are just damned good defensively. The Yanks on the other hand made several key errors. Yankee legends are turning over in their graves.

Salena Zito on Zuckerberg’s odd angling lately:
Mark Zuckerberg wants you to know that Facebook strives for diversity in its workforce — and not just on the basis of race or gender. The CEO says he works hard to recruit people who attended a state school, are rooted to their local communities and come from traditional backgrounds.
“We certainly do,” Zuckerberg said of his 40,000 mostly US-based employees in an interview with The Post.
“There’s a woman who runs our commerce product and is deeply religious,” he said. “The person who runs policies of the company is quite a prominent Republican. So we have people from quite different views, which I think might be a little bit different from most of the other tech companies. That’s something that I really focused on.”
Glenn Reynolds comments:
So Zuck has a lot of access to information, and he’s really changed his tune lately. Would he be doing that if he expected a Democratic win in 2020?

Morning, everyone. Enjoyed my sudoku and still working on my big covfefe. Finished my cottage cheese and peach slices bowl, still working on the oat cereal. My big fluffy cat Travis decided this year that he wanted to lick the cottage cheese bowl after I finish it. But there’s a problem on Sundays: I do the puzzle before I have breakfast. This means it’s about 45 minutes average before I start eating, so average what he sees as an hour LATE before he gets the bowl. He watches me eat: resentful, impatient, unhappy.

Stolen bases? Bunts?

I bought some new sheet sets from online Cosy House, after my first purchase from them was surprising liked A LOT both upstairs and downstairs. I wanted a “winter” appearance for these, so got plain charcoal gray for both beds. Washing them both together was problematic because my Full had size label on every piece, but his Queen size did not. We have made up both beds, and I guess I’ll find out at nap time if this set has the wonderful air-proof quality I like. When I lie down, I easily start feeling too cold (due to a genetic defect in my skin temperature sensors), so these sheets are perfect for me. Little to no air exchange through these microfiber sheets means my body warmth keeps me from getting cold. If for some reason I start feeling hot, I can just throw off the top sheet.

China has exported their censorship and control ‘expertise’ to Maduro’s regime. They have already provided them with the technology and tools required to implement a form of social control, and now the Chinese art of censorship has inevitably extended to our Internet access. Chinese operators are directly operating inside CANTV’s infrastructure in order to selectively suppress and inhibit access to specific websites and services.

Packers won over the Raiders in fine style 42-24 on a sunny day at Lambeau Field. Can envision the late greats Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi smiling their approval. Spouse records the Packers and Texans games to be viewed later. I watched it live, and he’s viewing the Packers game now. The Texans game was regrettably not as cheerful.
The advantage to recording is you can fast forward through the commercials.

The O’McHarpers are off to HIS appointment with a surgeon tomorrow afternoon, to see what is recommended to get rid of a large anomaly that was found during his recent first-time-ever colonoscopy. I just carried some items out to the curb for CoH Heavy Trash junk waste coming up on Tuesday. While doing that, something seems to have zapped my middle finger, left hand, although I felt nothing like a bite or sting. Now I have an itchy purple swelling in the middle joint. Just have to wait & see what develops. I put some Allegra itch cream on it, which helps dull the sensation.

I guess I can dream.

We’re down to 83 here. Bring on those cold fronts promised for next week.
For dessert we had some of Blue Bell’s Christmas Cookie ice cream that just got in the grocery stores. Same flavor as last year when it was quite a hit. Rich vanilla ice cream with chunks of real cookie dough and red and green sprinkles mixed in. Yum, yum.

I got back this afternoon from visiting my family near Lufkin.
Cousin Pat and Aunt Mary were a tremendous source of support during my Harpy phase. Aunt Mary has told me that I’m her favorite niece; I guess it’s good to find out, even at my age. There’s Mary’s son, Robbie, and her husband, Gary, as well. The whole gang always makes me feel so welcome and loved when I visit.
This visit was to see Pat. I think I’ve already mentioned her fatty liver problem. She is, indeed, green. Her eyes are definitely green and her normally fair skin (she’s a red head, like her mom) has a strong green cast to it. I was able to have a frank talk with Aunt Mary before Pat made it home from work on Friday. “From what I’ve seen, working at the VA, and looking at Pat, it’s not good. Not good at all. I think I’m watching my daughter die in front of me,” she said, “I think they caught it too late. All the men that I saw looking like her didn’t make it.”
It seems that Pat also has a blood disorder that causes her body to produce waaaay too many white blood cells. She’s had it since childhood but hasn’t really been seeing a doctor for it. I don’t know that they could do anything about a genetic disorder, anyway. The current doctor are worried that her body is attacking her liver, and that a transplant would suffer a similar fate. Not to mention her diabetes issue, which makes things even worse. This past weekend her blood sugar dropped as low as 39, which caused her brother to run for a soda to keep her from teetering over. Then it shot up to 239. She is having a tremendously hard time managing her blood sugar level. On top of that, she has a hard time eating and a harder time keeping down what she manages to eat. She’s lost weight in her arms and legs, but her tummy is very round. She has a pain in her abdomen. And she’s more tired than her usual self, though she seems to be keeping her spirits up. She laughs easily and as often as she can. It’s good that she lives at the same property as her mom and her brother. They are watching out for her.
She comes into town on Tuesday to see a specialist. I’m hoping that there’s something that can be done. She is truly a light in this world.
I lit a candle for her at mass this morning, and said a lot of prayers for the whole family.

KHOU has been our go-to tv station for years for the 6 and 10 o’clock news as well as many of the CBS tv shows, the good ones that require some thought beyond age 12 or so. But we rarely watch their morning and/or noon time news unless something like a hurricane or other bad weather or some disaster is lurking. Result is we don’t recognize any of the broadcast staff for those while the 6 & 10 folks seem like neighbors. -
I believe Shara Fryer still has a morning gig on KTRH, she’s been, or has been there for a long time.
-
133
Yes, Shara anchors KTRH radio morning drive time news. With some dude. -
When I was growing up, Channel 2 News was the best.
KTRK 13 eventually edged out the rest and stood at the top, seemingly forever. 13 had the same formula and the same team for so long, I just got bored with them.
I don’t remember when I switched to KHOU, but it was when Lisa Foranda was anchoring. She was just so breathtaking that I couldn’t resist. Pretty much stuck with them ever since. Dave’s weather is so superior to the rest, I’ll stay until they get real stupid and fire him.Bound to happen. The TV people who make those decisions are the dumbest people on the planet.
-
But we rarely watch their morning and/or noon time news unless something like a hurricane or other bad weather or some disaster is lurking.
Adee
Houston morning TV news is a vast, banal wasteland. And that goes for all four of the stations. I watch 11 because that’s the channel on which it was left the night before. 🙂 -
Since I’m working from home a lot I can confirm that noon news isn’t any better. Shirn Min is most annoying.

290 is virtually complete and now you only have to use it sporadically. -
I can’t believe Wrigley is still there. She’s been one of the few genuine journalists to ever work in Houston television. Wrigley has always been highly respected among other reporters.
-
I despise television news so much, from local to network, I stopped watching it years ago. The only time I see it is when Her Highness has it on and I walk into the room. Every time I watch a few minutes I feel like the brain cells are evaporating in my head. I just can’t stand it.

The years have not been kind to Deborah. It’s fairly shocking that she still occasionally gets an on air gig.
-
Deborah must know where all the bodies are buried on Bissonnet.

Four years of hell. But it’s nice the one day a month I go in. Just to remind me, they recently tore up the Gessner eastbound onramp to and westbound offramp for a couple weeks. I’m assuming it was bad concrete.

One day.
Cool. -
I’m still unclear on that interchange.
Is there actually a separated/dedicated lane that runs all the way to the Katy and dumps you westbound on 10? -
142 Shannon
Deborah was a regular down at Kay’s Lounge on Bissonnet at the northern edge of The Village. What a dive. I think Dave Ward’s bar tab paid the overhead there for thirty years before he quit drinking. You never knew who you were going to see when you went in there, but it was the quintessential reporters’ hangout. Actually, the most interesting feature of Kay’s was the massive amounts of spectacularly funny and creative graffiti in the restrooms.
-
I’m still unclear on that interchange.
Is there actually a separated/dedicated lane that runs all the way to the Katy and dumps you westbound on 10?Two lanes peel off to the right around 34th and dump you on I-10 both directions.

It was fun sleeping on the ground for two nights, however, I’m looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.
I didn’t put the rain fly on my tent Friday night because the rain chances were very small. Around 5 am I realized I was getting wet from a light drizzle. I got up and affixed the rain fly and then I couldn’t go back to sleep. I’m not like Dave. I need my beauty rest. 🙂

When I was a boy, my folks always had the evening news tuned to Dave and Deborah. Sher min was a young cub reporter at the time.

That wouldna happened if you were sleeping in a hammock with a proper rain fly. You don’t sleep on the ground where the water is, and going back to sleep is as easy as closing your eyes.
And you should put up the rain fly with either a hammock or tent.

#146 – Kays Lounge was a Houston landmark when I went to Rice in 1964, and was only recently demolished in the name of progress. Otherwise, we’ve got tornaders dancing around north Dallas where I stays when I’m up here, but somehow I’m still alive. More on the way later, but it’s bedtime for me. More later and night all.
