Shannon, the rain started about 5:30 and ended an hour later. It rained fairly hard and we got ¾” enough to kick-start my Wheat/Oat patch. The TS is heading into northeast Florida and on into Georgia, so we’ll be on the dryer side, I hope we get a few more of the outer bands during the day though. It is… Read more »

Are you going to get anything out of that system? Looks like our aim was off.
Good morning Hamsters. Out here on the banks of the Brazos at Richmond we’re greeted by a 63 temp at 7 with chance of rain later in the day. Cold front does not show up until Monday the forecast says. Good news about rain over Super Dave’s way. Astros lost last night and so have to clinch things at home… Read more »

Well, we made the weekend, 64 and drizzling rain here, we’re getting some rain from the outer bands of the tropical storm, Nestor, that is just of the coast, near Port St Joe. It is projected to head straight or for Tallassee, so we’ll be on the dryer side of the storm, but maybe we’ll get a good rain out… Read more »

When I was a kid, in the 60’s we’d listen to the Big BAMM out of Montgomery in the day time and WLS out of Chicago at night, there were NO FM stations, except a classical station out of Dover, (PBS) and cars didn’t have FM radios.
Oh and #103 El Gordo, what he said, I was typing pecking at the time.

#99 Shannon, back in the 20’s when the government first started regulating the AM radio stations, they set aside a small number of high powered stations to broadcast at full power 24-7, the others had to reduce their power so as to not interfere with the Clear Channel Stations at night. I don’t have time to get into the politics… Read more »
Back in the good old days, radio was coming of age and local stations were cropping up to serve local communities. The FCC designated a few 50,000 watt boomers cross the country that offered wide area coverage, and designated the broadcast channels so not have any overlap with other stations after dark. These were called clear channel stations, and were… Read more »

Never mind A clear-channel station is an AM radio station in North America that has the highest protection from interference from other stations, particularly concerning night-time skywave propagation. The system exists to ensure the viability of cross-country or cross-continent radio service, and is enforced through a series of treaties and statutory laws. Now known as Class A stations since 1982,… Read more »

But after dark all the radio stations except the Clear Channel ones cut their power.
Are you saying the company Clear Channel has control of all of the high power after dark stations in the country?
Or is “Clear Channel” some technical broadcasting lingo that I am ignorant of?
About AM reception, a buddy of mine used to sell car radios that were tuned to a certain frequency so that people in areas just out of the sports blackout cities could listen to the ball games. It seems that the first IF of a car radio was tuned to the receiving frequency, no other radio did that. So, he’d… Read more »

CBSsports dot com has been doing a lot of experimentation with live updates of this series. Tonight they even have a graphic batter with a strike zone.
740 not simulcasting tonight.
