Tuesday Easy Bake Comments

Another casualty in the WoILBs:

Politicians, it seems, have killed the traditional Easy-Bake Oven.
Collateral damage in the war on energy waste is none other than the classic children’s toy Easy-Bake Oven, introduced in 1963 and an inductee in the National Toy Hall of Fame.
Millions of young chefs have used the toy to make tasty baked treats. It was made possible by the oven’s heating element, a common 100-watt incandescent light bulb.
But starting next year, manufacture of such bulbs will be outlawed. It’s the start of a 2007 federal law being phased in that requires light bulbs to be more energy efficient. The practical effect will be a ban on incandescent bulbs, which do not meet the requirement.

Just think – the millions of little girls programmed to be nothing more than Suzy Homemakers by the male-dominated toy industry will now be freed from a life of domestic servitude – and all thanks to a successful ban-the-bulb campaign! Phyllis Schlafly must be coming unhinged! But wait! Fear not, my fellow Stanley Kowalskis. All is not lost:

“We are aware that the 100-watt incandescent light bulb will no longer be available beginning in 2012. In fall 2011, Hasbro will launch the Easy-Bake Ultimate Oven, introducing a new way to bake for the next generation of chefs. This new oven features a heating element that does not use a light bulb and offers an extensive assortment of mixes reflective of the hottest baking trends for today.”

Now git back in that kitchen and bake us some snickerdoodles!

Well if Susie Homemaker replaces her 100W incandescent with a 23W (100W equivalent) fluorescent, that just means she will have more time to clean while she waits for her cookies to bake.

You guys have to focus on the positive side of things. 🙂

Perhaps this is an indication of some progress.

The Milwaukee teachers union has dropped a lawsuit seeking to get its taxpayer-funded Viagra back.

The union sued in July 2010 to force the school board to again include the erectile dysfunction drug and similar pills in its health insurance plans.

The union has argued the board’s policy of excluding such drugs from the plans discriminates against male employees; the board has countered the 2005 move was meant to save money.

I noticed that while fragrances were studied, pheromones weren’t mentioned. That is the single most important item in determining “beauty”. Winds of change appear to blowing in Washington

California’s Central Valley, where 200 billion gallons of water were deliberately diverted away from vital agriculture for the enjoyment and amusement of the 2-inch Delta Smelt is a case in point. These water diversions have destroyed a quarter million acres of the most fertile farmland in America, thrown tens of thousands of farm families into unemployment and impacted fruit, vegetable and nut prices in grocery stores across America.

In Northern Arizona, 1,000 megawatts of hydroelectricity – enough to power a million homes – has been lost due to environmental mandates for the humpback chub.

In the Klamath, the federal government is seeking to destroy four perfectly good hydroelectric dams at the cost of more than a half billion dollars at a time when we can’t guarantee enough electricity to keep refrigerators running this summer. The rationale is to save the salmon, but the same proposal would close the Iron Gate Fish Hatchery that produces 5 million salmon smolt each year.
Meanwhile, funds that ought to be going to water and power development are instead being squandered on subsidizing low-flow toilets, salmon festivals, tiger salamander studies and grants to private associations whose principal activity is to sue the federal government.

This is an inaccurate story. Any chain email should be checked for authenticity before posting on this site.

Nonie Darwish, a former Muslim and human rights activist, told TruthOrFiction.Com that she is not the author of this article.

This just came into my e-mail inbox. Sarge, as you can see below, I am not alone in my opinion.

This was written by a woman born in Egypt as a Muslim.

This is not hearsay, and it will scare the life out of you.
Make sure you read the paragraph towards the end.

    Joys of Muslim Women
    By Nonie Darwish

In the Muslim faith a Muslim man can marry a child as young as 1 year
old and have sexual intimacy with this child, consummating the marriage
by 9. The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the woman (who
becomes his slave) and for the purchase of the private parts of the
woman, to use her as a toy.

Even though a woman is abused she cannot obtain a divorce. To prove
rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses.
Often after a woman has been raped, she is returned to her family and
the family must return the dowry. The family has the right to execute
her (an honor killing) to restore the honor of the family. Husbands can
beat their wives ‘at will’ and he does not have to say why he has beaten
    her.

The husband is permitted to have four (4) wives and a temporary wife for
an hour (prostitute) at his discretion.

The Shariah Muslim law controls the private as well as the public life
    of the woman.

In the Western World ( America ) Muslim men are starting to demand
Shariah Law so the wife cannot obtain a divorce and he can have full
and complete control of her. It is amazing and alarming how many of our
sisters and daughters attending American universities are now marrying
Muslim men and submitting themselves and their children unsuspectingly
    to the Shariah law.

By passing this on, enlightened American women may avoid becoming a
slave under Shariah Law.. Author and lecturer Nonie Darwish says the
goal of radical Islamists is to impose Shariah law on the world, ripping
Western law and liberty in two.

She recently authored the book, Cruel and Usual Punishment: The
Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law.

Darwish was born in Cairo and spent her childhood in Egypt and Gaza
before immigrating to America in 1978, when she was eight years old.
Her father died while leading covert attacks on Israel . He was a
high-ranking Egyptian military officer stationed with his family in Gaza
    .

When he died, he was considered a “shahid,” a martyr for jihad. His
posthumous status earned Nonie and her family an elevated position in
    Muslim society.

But Darwish developed a skeptical eye at an early age. She questioned
her own Muslim culture and upbringing. She converted to Christianity
after hearing a Christian preacher on television.

In her latest book, Darwish warns about creeping sharia law – what it
is, what it means, and how it is manifested in Islamic countries.

For the West, she says radical Islamists are working to impose sharia on
the world. If that happens, Western civilization will be destroyed.
Westerners generally assume all religions encourage a respect for the
dignity of each individual. Islamic law (Sharia) teaches that
non-Muslims should be subjugated or killed in this world.

Peace and prosperity for one’s children is not as important as assuring
that Islamic law rules everywhere in the Middle East and eventually in
    the world.

While Westerners tend to think that all religions encourage some form of
the golden rule, Sharia teaches two systems of ethics – one for Muslims
and another for non-Muslims. Building on tribal practices of the seventh
century, Sharia encourages the side of humanity that wants to take from
    and subjugate others.

While Westerners tend to think in terms of religious people developing a
personal understanding of and relationship with God, Sharia advocates
executing people who ask difficult questions that could be interpreted
    as criticism.

It’s hard to imagine, that in this day and age, Islamic scholars agree
that those who criticize Islam or choose to stop being Muslim should be
executed. Sadly, while talk of an Islamic reformation is common and even
assumed by many in the West, such murmurings in the Middle East are
    silenced through intimidation.

While Westerners are accustomed to an increase in religious tolerance
over time, Darwish explains how petro dollars are being used to grow an
extremely intolerant form of political Islam in her native Egypt and
    elsewhere.

(In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. to elect
the President by themselves! Rest assured they will do so. You can
look at how they have taken over several towns in the USA – Dearborn ,
Mich. is one… and there are others…)

I think everyone in the U.S. should be required to read this, but with
the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of
    us sends it on!

It is too bad that so many are disillusioned with life and Christianity
to accept Muslims as peaceful. Some may be but they have an army that is
willing to shed blood in the name of Islam. The peaceful support the
warriors with their finances and own kind of patriotism to their
religion. While America is getting rid of Christianity from all public
sites and erasing God from the lives of children the Muslims are
planning a great jihad on America .

This is your chance to make a difference…! Pass it on to your email
list or at least those you think will listen..

Some of those I’m sending this to to WILL NOT pass it on!
So, put your head back under the covers and hope the obvious isn’t true.

Laura Ingraham is talking about this today.

    http://dallasmorningviewsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2011/03/project-gunrunn.html

I’ve been watching this for quite awhile. Here’s a link to the guy that did the legwork on the whole thing. You will find multiple links of the stuff he’s discovered.

“FLASH! The government of Mexico has formally asked the United States for details of the ATF operation ‘Fast and Furious’!” Mike Vanderboegh reported yesterday morning on the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog.

“The Project Gunwalker* Scandal just became an international incident,” he told readers, linking to a post on Mexico.vg that was reporting:

The government of Mexico asked the United States for details of the ATF under Project Gunrunner, Operation name “Fast and Furious“ implemented by the U.S. Department of Justice that allegedly allowed thousands of weapons into the Mexico.

    snip

Now, according to the statement, posted online by Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (in Spanish), the Mexican government has requested detailed information about the “Fast and Furious” operation being conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The (rough) Google translation of the Ministry’s statement:

In relation to information released by various media and Mexican Americans on an operation called Fast and Furious conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Snuff [!], Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Department of Justice United States, the Secretariat Foreign states:

    1. It has been requested detailed information on this matter to the U.S. authorities.

    2. The Government of Mexico will continue with special research interest announced by both ATF and the Department of Justice.

    3. The aim of the governments of Mexico and the United States is to stop arms smuggling on the basis of the principle of shared responsibility and both work to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field. This priority was endorsed by the Presidents of Mexico and the United States on 3 March in Washington.

Sarge, as you can see below, I am not alone in my opinion.

Once again, we find things are not true in the emails we receive

Analysis: Despite the attribution at the top — “Joys of Muslim Women by Nonie Darwish” — this text wasn’t written by Nonie Darwish; indeed, the bottom two-thirds of it refer to her repeatedly in the third person. Darwish confirmed via email that she did not write the article, though it is, in her words, “to a large extent accurate.” She said her 2009 book, Cruel and Usual Punishment, better represents her views.

It should be noted that though the article is at least partially based on Darwish’s personal experiences growing up in a Muslim country and reading the Qur’an, it’s awash in generalizations and makes pronouncements about Islam and Islamic practices that don’t necessarily hold true for all Muslims.

    . . . . . . .From an interview with Nonie Darwish:

Slavery, for example, has never been abolished by Islam. If you read Muslim Shariah law, it is full of regulation of slaves. Sexual slavery of women captured in war is allowed, which was practiced by Mohammed. Even today, sexual slaves are accepted and all over the Middle East. Honor killings are rooted in Islamic law. For example, the murders for which a Muslim will never have punishment: to kill an apostate, to kill an adulterer – which is usually a woman, and honor killings. If you allow the killings of an apostate or an adulteress woman in the form of vigilante justice under Islamic law, you are endorsing honor killing. There are so many laws you cannot imagine that are brutal and unfair. A woman, for example, cannot divorce her husband, only a man can divorce her. I have an entire chapter in my book about the Muslim marriage contract. All of this is to open the eyes of the West to something totally against their own value system and democracy.

. . . .And from the very block quote posted above:

Darwish confirmed via email that she did not write the article, though it is, in her words, “to a large extent accurate.”

Each and every attempted advance of Sharia into Western Civilization must be fought vigorously.

You are trying to make a Dan Rather – forged documents argument, therefore the info is bogus. In order for that comparison to hold any water in this case it would require GWB to confirm that the info in the forged documents was largely accurate and I am pretty sure that he did no such thing.

The Muslims who blew up the nightclub in Bali did it 9 years ago. They were arrested, tried, and executed by the nation that has the largest Muslim population on the planet. The motive of the killers was political, not religious.

The three never expressed remorse, saying the bombings were meant to punish the United States and its Western allies for alleged atrocities in Afghanistan and elsewhere. They even taunted relatives of victims at their trials five years ago.

In an interview with Reuters late last year, the militants said their only regret was that some Muslims were killed. In recent months, the men publicly expressed hopes their executions would trigger revenge attacks in Indonesia.

You might note, that among the largest muslim population in the world, there have been very few revenge attacks in Indonesia in the past 9 years.

You also intimated that the War Crimes conviction of Milosovic was a “railroading.”

The very respected Global Security website might provide you with more factual information on the true nature of the merciless genocide:

The fighting between the Serbs and Bosnian Muslims was perhaps the heaviest and most reported in the entire war. The Serbs were interested in creating an ethnically pure Republika Srpska for the Serbs, but large Muslim minorities, especially in the cities, made it difficult for the Serbs to carve out homogonous ethnic entities. As a result, the army of the Republika Srpska under the leadership of General Ratko Mladic began a policy of “ethnic cleansing” against Muslims in what they considered to be Serb lands. This included sending Muslims to Europe’s first concentration camps since World War II, massive counts of rape and sexual assault against Muslim women and girls, and mass executions of Muslim men and boys of military age. Most infamous of these acts was the 1995 massacre in the city of Srebrenica, where more than 7000 Muslims were killed by Serb forces under than command of Gen. Mladic. There was also heavy looting, torture of Muslims, and widespread forced relocation. Many of Bosnia’s cities were also besieged by Serb forces, namely Sarajevo, Bihac, and Tuzla, as well as many others. The brutality and scale of the fighting shocked many in the west. Though it should be added for the sake of fairness, that while most acts of ethnic cleansing were overwhelmingly committed by Serb forces, Croat and Muslim forces also committed similar acts as well. In addition, this was not the first time that ethnic cleansing was practiced in the Balkans, with both the Croat Ustase and the Serb Cetniks committing acts of ethnic cleansing during World War II.

And just in case you still wonder whether the Serb “reaction” to “muslim violence” was “in proportion” :

War crimes fugitive Gen. Ratko Mladic led his troops in July 1995 into the U.N. safe-haven of Srebrenica and “stripped all the male Muslim prisoners, military and civilian, elderly and young, of their personal belongings and identification, and deliberately and methodically killed them solely on the basis of their identity,” according to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.

A video that surfaced during ICTY proceedings depicts members of the Scorpions paramilitary force leading Bosnian Muslims to their execution in a field in Srebrenica. In one incident, six men are shown being taken from the back of a military vehicle and forced to march single file to meet machine gun fire – one man at a time – by the Scorpions. During the video, a soldier is shown emptying an entire magazine into the head of one of the prisoners, protesting “I have a few more shells left!”

There was no response to “muslim violence” involved. There was no excuse except that made by the perpetrators:

“Muslims are incompatible with Western Civilization.”

Your willingness to beleive that muslims were the instigators and not the victims here despite the facts is more than enough evidence to convince me that you’re not going to get off this “Evil Islam” kick you’re on. Its very dangerous. I don’t want to fight all the Muslims in the world—we lose that war.

Sarge, you seem to be saying that “religious Islam” is just fine, and thius it does not need to undergo a modernization or reformation. Is that your position?

Islam, as a religion, is evolutionarily behind Christianity. It does need to excise from its ranks the comparatively small population of radical fundamentalists in mainly Arabic nations. But if all followers of Islam were as blood thirsty as has been portrayed in some circles, then we already would have lost the war we are fighting against the real bad guys. They simply control too many important nations and resources.

I also know that most PEOPLE, regardless of thier religion, only want to practice it in peace and to be left alone to do it. Until recently, most of the terrorism on the planet perpetrated by Muslims have been done by politically left leaning organizations like the PLO. The recent rise of religiously motivated terrorism is not endemic throughout the Muslim population of the planet, and is centered mainly in Arabic nations, and a large component of that is cultural as well as religious.

I also know that most religious people beleive that spreading their religion is part of practicing the religion—but there are differing views among sects on how to achieve that. The Westboro Baptist Church has a bit of a differing view of how to do that than does River Pointe Church, for instance.

This morning (1/1/11) the Dallas Morning News carried three different stories about attacks on Christian churches or Christians carried out by Muslim terrorists; one in Egypt, one in Iraq, and one in Afghanistan. These are not isolated incidents. Over the last two decades Muslims have attacked Christian churches and killed Christians in Nigeria, Sudan, Somalia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Iran, and Afghanistan. (See http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/255861/away-manger-paul-marshall) One is tempted to balance this report with attacks in the Christian West on mosques and Muslims, but in reality there is no comparison in number, deadliness, intensity, and most importantly motivation.

Muslims still in their home countries, seem to me to be mostly 2 groups: the violent jihadis and the reticent Muslims. The latter group seem to either passively agree with the jihadis or are afraid to disagree. I don’t see a “Silent Majority” of Muslims anywhere who are peaceful but don’t speak up.

I don’t see a “Silent Majority” of Muslims anywhere who are peaceful but don’t speak up.

One rarely hears a Silent Majority. They wouldn’t be a Silent Majority if you heard them.

My basic problem is with the way Boney frames the situation. He is steering folks towards there being only one ultimate solution, and that is to wage war on all of Islam before all of Islam wages war on us.

During the Iraq War, I took the unpopular position that we would ultimately lose that war if we engaged in the kind of tactics used in WW2. I argued that classic counter-insurgency tactics would work for both moral and tactical reasons. The moral reason was that we would be no better than our enemy if we did, the tactical reason was that our enemy wanted us to use those kinds of tactics in order to mobilize the Muslim world against us.

General Petreaus used a classic counter insurgency strategy and won the war. There is now a nascent democracy in Iraq that is an ally. We are engaged in a similar conflict in Afghanistan and are seeing similar results, albeit at a slower pace.

We fought a war with Muslim extremists once before, in the Phillipines at the beginning of the last century. Despite untrue rumors to the contrary, Blackjack Pershing used almost exactly the same tactics that Petreaus used successfully in Iraq. When Filipinos had the chance to choose between us and the Japanese, they chose us and fought a guerrilla war against them for nearly 4 years.

Making war on Islam is a bad idea.

Making war on bad muslims is a good one.

If you can’t make a distinction between the two, you will be no more successful than a blind giant flailing about in a dark forest trying to kill the dogs that are after him.

I don’t see a “Silent Majority” of Muslims anywhere who are peaceful but don’t speak up.

Ok, Sarge made this point already, but exactly how would you see them? You think the media is going to focus on people who DO NOT blow stuff up? If you simply focus on raw population numbers it’s blatantly obvious that the majority of Muslim people are neither terrorists nor do they condone terrorism.

I am pleased to be in receipt of another invitation to one of my “adopted” kid’s 21st birthday celebrations. This one is the female half of a couple that had lived here temporarily a few times over the last few years, and it will be held at their new apartment (Yea! Fiscal responsibility!) She’s doing the cooking, and I can’t wait. I’m not saying that the only reason I helped them out was that she could cook and he could clean… But it sure didn’t hurt!

They simultaneously make me feel young, and old.

Good advice when you find yourself in a fight:

Fight only the guy who is trying to hurt you.

Don’t make any more new enemies—try not to pizzoff his freinds.

Try to get his freinds to get him to back off. The first step in doing this is to not pizz them off.

Mohammad, an Arab child, entered his classroom on the first day of
school in Ohio . “What is your name?” asked the teacher. “Mohammad”
    answered the boy.

“You are in America now. From now on your name will be Johnny,”
    replied the teacher.

In the evening, Mohammad returned home. “How was your day, Mohammad?”
    asked his mother.

“My name is not Mohammad. I ’m in America and now my name is Johnny.”

“Ah, are you ashamed of your name, are you trying to dishonour your
parents, your heritage, your religion? Shame on you!” and she beat
him. Then she called his father and he too, beat him.

The next day Mohammad returned to school. When the teacher saw him
with all the bruises she asked, “What happened to you little Johnny”?

“Well ma’am, 4 hours after becoming an American, I was attacked by Muslims.”/ducks and hauls butt

Sorry, I don’t buy this. Any time I see survey results about what Muslims in various countries believe or support, they often show 80% that support what are NOT moderate positions: death for adultery or apostacy or insulting Islam; FGM and other forms of female subjugation; etc. People who support barbaric practises can not be counted on to oppose jihadism.
